1. New York

(number of Instagram tags: 119 million) Nowhere says iconic proposal destination like New York. The city’s magical aura, incredible skyline and glitzy bars make it one of the most romantic places in the world. How about a dreamy boat trip proposal in Central Park or asking the question at the top of the Empire State Building?

Barcelona

(number of Instagram tags: 66.3 million) Bursting with culture and architectural masterpieces, Barcelona offers a vibrant and cosmopolitan proposal destination that’s world-famous for its art and gastronomy. Get down on one knee in the stunning Parc Guell with its colourful mosaics or in front of the lights of the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc at night.

As proposal backdrops go, the 40km of white sand beaches lapped by gentle turquoise waves and backed by palm trees make Phuket hard to beat. Another great option is nearby James Bond Island (known locally as Khao Phing Kan), which rose to fame in 1974 when it featured as one of the locations for the movie The Man with the Golden Gun.
