In September, Forbes – the magazine business leaders look to for reliable business news and financial information – elevated our wonderful city from being the “coolest place to live” (as stated in 2012), to becoming “America’s Next Great Global City” – within the decade. In between all this praise from Forbes came more; this is just a sampling found on the Greater Houston Partnership Web site: * “Best Domestic Airport” – Executive Travel * “Best Hospital for Cancer (MD Anderson)” – U.S. News & World Report * “Best Texas Cities for Young Families (The Woodlands)” – NerdWallet * “Best City in America” – Business Insider * “Best City for Your Career” – Payscale.com * “Best Quality of Life (Rice University)” – Princeton Review As a testament to all these “bests,” just look around. The city is flourishing. Housing construction is booming. Here at Houston House & Home, we’re pleased to be part of this exciting growth period, offering access to the most comprehensive

listing of remodelers, builders, development companies, designers, furniture and accessory providers and more. This month we’re celebrating the holidays by visiting a family who values traditions, giving you a glimpse into their decorated home. Additionally, we’re providing pages filled with tips and guidelines for remodeling or constructing a kitchen and/or bath in 2014 – and beyond. A bath redo and a visit into a kitchen designer’s own space offer inspiration. As a final note, check out our Calendar on page 14 for holiday home tours and fun activities in and near Houston. Here’s to wishing you and yours a safe, healthy and prosperous New Year. Warmly, Susan (& Sam)

TASTEMAKER

KELLY GALE AMEN

Photos by Sergio Santos Photograpy. Floral arrangements by Aubrey Sellers. Film of KGA interiors www.kga.net by Buk Films, David Bukstein.

Kelly Gale Amen, on his triple bench, at Bush Intercontinental Airport.

Interior Designer Kelly Gale Amen exudes a contagious “joie de vivre” that lives within him, surfaces in his humor and abounds in plenty with his original, creative and functional furniture designs. If you’ve lived in Houston without knowing this name, then you are in for a visual treat. Country living with client’s metal collections.

Furniture Layers An interview with KGA

What or where was the starting point in designing furniture? In 1990, I wanted to create the perfect bench – one that would last forever. This was the triple bench with the stone top. Cast in bronze and layered with Texas fossil stone. In addition to interior design, was furniture designing something that always called to you? The furniture was a natural extension. I once believed that home design would humor me forever. That being said, it has . . . but the additional creative energy derived from functional art furniture has opened up another layer of possibilites within my design offerings, as well as client spaces. 16 house& home | December 2013 | www.houseandhomeonline. com

Tell me about some of your first pieces and how your line has evolved? The first piece of KGA Functional Art was the triple bronze bench. The piece forges together its pieces using dovetail and dowel connects. Today, the collection is available in wood, resin, glass, stone and metals of choice. Tell me about your latest piece? The latest is the settee. It has my signature square knee and tapered legs – and the added ingredient of luxurious upholstery for comfort. Was there any past or present furniture designer who inspired you, or whom you admire? I love the simplicity of Shaker furniture, as well as those pieces capturing both Greek and Egyptian influences. History is the test of time – and it also inspires future possibilities.

The extravaganza of slip-covering for summer camouflage.

What are our goals with furniture designing? Furniture – clearer the craft and product – for me is a functional application of beauty. The less is more philosophy comes into play here. Do you name your pieces? No not really. I have used historical references to name some pillow creations however. What materials do you favor? Metal. My choice is bronze followed up with aluminum. These metals live well and long – and they can handle any abuse nature might wield. How hands-on are you? My involvement in the process begins with conception, which I then follow to culmination. I am there from the time it’s sketched to the time it becomes a structural drawing. We also go through an approval and quality check period – before it advances to the final stage. I love being part of every needed facet. It’s very satisfying and rewarding to say the least. Are some of your pieces on display at public places? The collection has grown and moved around. You can find pieces here in Houston at the Museum of Natural Science, the Looscan Library, McKee Street Park, the Lanier Building, Bush International Airport, the Jewish Community Center, NASA and more. Oklahoma shares in its state’s art collection the 1898 Weatherford Bench, as does The American Embassy in Moscow, Lady Bird Johnson’s Wildflower Center, the executive offices of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the Ask Peace Foundation, the Zina Garrison Foundation and the Orel Foundation. Can anyone contact you about design? I welcome questions and all discussions related to creating a functional art piece. It is about embracing the idea that what some see as “ordinary” can become something more . . . something that is interesting, pleasing and quite personal. What country has inspired you the most and in what way? I love Kashmir, India. My travels there began in the early ‘70s, and I have just returned from this valley of beauty with more energy than ever.

Getting Personal What can you not live without? White shirts. I have a collection of usable shirts that I wear on a daily basis. I also have a collection of beautiful dressy shirts – white and starched. And vests. I love vests. What is your personal style when it comes to furniture? Comfort and function. No more, no less. Where are you originally from? Born and raised in Western Oklahoma in the flat lands. There is nothing more beautiful than the skies seen in this part of the country. Where did you study? I have a BA from the University of Oklahoma. How long have you been in business, and where did you begin? My journey began in 1972 in Houston, at the design stall at Foley’s. Then I opened my own doors in 1974. Juxtaposition of soft florals on metal -- at the KGA loft.

BEFORE & AFTER

AFTER: The wallpaper was removed and walls were painted Benjamin Moore’s “Wheeling Neutral” to coordinate with new floor and shower tile from Emser Tile. To update the bath look, a storage tower and drawers were added to the makeup vanity area along with new lighting from Homeclick.com, in addition to mirrors from Pottery Barn. The countertop was raised and replaced with Dark Emperador marble from John Blair with Clearwater Builders Inc. 22 house& home | December 2013 | www.houseandhomeonline. com

BEFORE: Dated floral wallpaper, a furred down wall, a large mirror, the color beige, too-low counters with integrated shell sinks, lack of storage, dated brass hardware, and a makeup vanity area with Hollywood lighting . . . all helped make the sink wall of this bathroom drab and old looking.

A FRESH APPROACH Designer Helps Keep the Project Moving BY JOETTA MOULDEN • PHOTOGRAPHY BY JANET LENZEN

Denise Seale contacted me about her dated master bath because she wanted more storage space and knew I would work within her budget. “Because I had seen your articles in Houston House and Home, and Pat and I had worked with you before, we felt comfortable starting the project knowing in the end it would be what we wanted – plus the extra storage,” she says. Denise was in a quandary about what color to paint the wallpaper-less bath walls. “I kept looking at different tiles, trying to imagine how it would all go together. I was having a difficult time starting

BEFORE

the project. I wanted something neutral, clean and fresh, but not “blah,” explains Denise. “You selected ‘Wheeling Neutral’ paint by Benjamin Moore, which is perfect with the new 18x18-inch square Emser Tile flooring (set on the diagonal). The color is also perfect with the dark brown Emperador marble countertops you suggested and the new lighting. “New polished nickel pulls and knobs were added at your suggestion,” says Denise. TIP: Think of new kitchen hardware as the “jewelry” for your cabinets. What Denise likes most about her refreshed bath is having extra storage, which previously was “sorely lacking.” “The hole in the vanity was such wasted space,” Denise explains. She loves the storage tower on the bath counter and the larger shower niche

BEFORE AFTER: Window trim and concealed storage were added, and a matching shutter (to the bedroom) replaced the mini blind and valance. A new, polished nickel toilet paper holder was moved to the wall opposite the window.

24 house& home | December 2013 | www.houseandhomeonline. com

BEFORE: No or little window trim, coordinated dated floral wallpaper, an aged mini blind and valance, concealed storage above toilet, and an ugly toilet paper holder ruined the look of the bath.

CLOSETStory Designer Jeff Brown of Closet Factory saw this project while it was in the Sheetrock stage. The homeowners wanted the closet to utilize all of the vertical space, accomodate luggage, and to match their bedroom furniture. Jeff’s design meets all of their requirements. Elegant stained cherry cabinetry reaches to the ceiling and includes a luggage cabinet. A combination of crown and dentil mouldings wraps the room for a beautiful finishing touch. The clients love the new space. Jeff Brown Closet Factory 281.355.7676

BEFORE

AFTER: The tub was removed, the leak repaired, Emser Tile installed, new Kohler polished-nickel shower fixtures from Clearwater Builders Inc. were added, in addition to a frameless Shower Guard glass surround.

TRADE SECRETS

BEFORE: An awkward, leaky tub shower, dated lighting, brass hardware, plumbing fixtures, and a sliding brass and glass tub surround spoiled this bath.

• REROUTING PLUMBING DRAIN LINES in a concrete slab can get expensive, so if you can leave them alone you can save money. • HIRE A DECORATOR to look objectively at your spaces and make suggestions that will help you redecorate on your budget. • SELECT COUNTERTOPS FIRST, then tile and paint colors. You have to start somewhere! • SOMETIMES THE MOST EFFECTIVE STRATEGY is to first rethink what’s already paid for.

for shampoo bottles opposite her shower controls. She also has fallen in love with the existing storage cabinet’s top shelf now that it is taller – an easy fix once the furred down wall was removed over the sinks –and the extra concealed storage cabinet over the toilet.) What have friends and family said of the updates? “They love the fresh, modern look—the lightness and organization of the bath now,” Denise says. “I knew you would guide me in my selections since I had worked with you before. You are very direct but tactful in expressing your opinions. It made our job of choosing from the many available products – not to mention workmen (such as John Blair with Clearwater Builders Inc.) – easier. I would definitely recommend seeking professional design help, even if it’s just to get you moving in the right direction,” Denise says. TIP: If you are planning to stay in the house after the bath remodel, make sure your new bath fits your storage and design needs. “ I really didn’t have a hard time visualizing any of your suggestions, since I had looked at pictures of bathrooms for years – planning what we wanted for our own bath,” she adds.

Peggy McGowen, owner of Kitchen & Bath Concepts in Houston, at her own home.

Bayside Kitchen It’s all about convenience, the view and family-style entertaining BY SUSAN FOX

There are two heating shelves above the Wolf range where McGowen places pancakes and other foods.

Like so many living in nearby coastal areas, Peggy McGowan found her bay-front home virtually destroyed five years ago by Hurricane Ike, the most costly storm ever to hit Texas. So many treasured antiques and long-held family memorabilia were suddenly gone. Despite it all, the kitchen designer began almost immediately cooking up a recovery plan. “There was 3-feet of water and a lot of debris – even on the ceiling, because of the wave action inside our house,” she says of her permanent home and beloved retreat, which looks out at the Galveston Bay. Rebuilding as a result of an unexpected catastrophe is never easy. But the “kitchen queen” – founder of Kitchen & Bath Concepts in Houston – certainly had the knowhow to get things done. McGowen stepped in and focused on improving the functionality of her own cooking space, leaving the kitchen footprint the same.

PEGGY MCGOWEN’S KITCHEN FAVORITES: • Her Aerolatte milk frother. • The water sensor pedal at her sink. • The warming shelf above her Wolf range. • Her plumbed-in BrewMatic coffee machine.

The U-shaped kitchen accommodates several cooks at once. The McGowens use the portable butcher block table to transport food items to the outdoor grill or other parts of the house.

“We got all-new everything,”she says. Previously, her kitchen was outfitted with a side-by-side refrigerator. Feeling like she was always “fighting with the doors,” McGowen went with a 36-inch stainless steel SubZero left-swing door fridge with a bottom freezer drawer. “I didn’t go back to a warming oven either,” says McGowen. She opted for a warming shelf that sits above her Wolf range, which is by the same manufacturer. It better suits her needs. While the range includes an oven, McGowen uses the wall oven for daily use, mainly because it requires no back bending efforts to place or retrieve heavy baking dishes or roasting pans. Situated just above it is her microwave. From the main sink she enjoys a view of the bay. On weekends, the 30 house& home | December 2013 | www.houseandhomeonline. com

horizon is dotted with sail boats. And farther north, she sees the ships that come through the Ship Channel. She chose to mirror her backsplash so family and guests who sit at the raised granite-topped eating bar can enjoy a more panoramic water view. One of McGowen’s hard-fast rules that she shares with every client who enters her shop is that “everything should come to you. You shouldn’t have to bend or get down on the floor to get something.” Therefore, all cabinet drawers slide fully outward, and she has a turn-out system in each of two “dead corners.” Convenience is what makes this kitchen especially attractive. McGowen added a foot lever at the bottom of her sink cabinet, which turns on the faucet with the tap of her foot. She says manufacturers now

offer something that might work even better for some: sensor sinks. At her main sink, she installed a cold water filter. The prep sink on the island is fitted with a little butler hot water dispenser. The island sink, she says, actually serves as a bar sink since it is near the glass-front wine fridge. Below the wine cooler are refrigerated beverage drawers. She likes the convenience of having certain entertaining and cooking activities grouped together for efficiency sake. While McGowen’s bayside home is her permanent home – and favorite place, she and her retired husband also have a Houston condo, which prevents commuting from being mandatory. Hurricane Ike couldn’t keep her away from the bay; it’s here where she loves to be – with her daughters, granddaughters, and other family and friends.

Combine all ingredients (except shrimp) in baking pan. Place in oven to melt and heat until bubbly. Remove pan from oven and stir in shrimp. Stir well to get sauce on all shrimp. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes, or until shrimp turn pink, stirring one or two times while cooking. Serve with linguine (or other pasta), crusty French bread and a salad. Must do: Dip French bread in shrimpy garlic sauce and devour (but not for folks who won’t get their hands messy)! Note: You can use peeled shrimp if preferred, and pour shrimp and sauce over pasta to serve. 32 house& home | December 2013 | www.houseandhomeonline. com

BATH PLANNER

THINGS TO KNOW

When Remodeling or Constructing a Bathroom THE TIMEFRAME According to the NKBA, simple improvements should take approximately four to six weeks. A full-scale remodel could require six to eight months to finish. Unexpected delays can occur, too, if structural deficiencies are found along the way, which will likely change the cost. In the bath, there can be hidden water damage that might need attention. Communication is key, especially if the bath needs to be completed by a certain time. “Homeowners always underestimate the length of time the remodeling process should take. And change orders add to the process,” says Ken Bowman at Masonry & Glass Systems. Again, another reason for engaging the services of a professional who can oversee the project. If not, the resounding advice is to interview three to five remodelers. “You should find that one (remodeler/builder) who makes you comfortable, and who will respect your privacy and property,” explains Bowman.

Roxbury lighting fixtures by Hudson Valley.

The complexities of plumbing and the need for multiple contractors to work together in a small space creates challenges for anyone remodeling or constructing a bathroom. As a result, baths can on a cost-per-square foot basis be an expensive venture. According to the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA), installation costs generally run about 20 percent of the overall budget. Additional top budget considerations breakout this way: Cabinetry and hardware account for 16 percent of the total investment, fixtures make a 15 percent dent, and faucets and plumbing take about 14 percent of the grand tally. Hiring a certified bathroom designer may sound like a luxury, but he/she may be able to save you money in the long run. A bathroom is a space that just requires a toilet, shower, bathtub and vanity, right? Think again. The considerations rival the kitchen in terms of what needs to be addressed (see “finalizing choices” on page 36). 34 house& home | December 2013 | www.houseandhomeonline. com

WHAT’S TRENDING “The majority of master bath remodels that I see involve removing a small shower and an unused tub – and replacing them with a large doorless shower with two shower heads. My favorite trend is using glass blocks for the doorless shower, plus replacing the builder grade window with the same translucent blocks, which really brighten up the space,” says Bowman. Converting the tub to a shower is a big trend, agrees Jim Nowlin, president of the Remodelers Council of the Greater Houston Builders Association. “People are completely gutting and remodeling their bathrooms, adding larger showers, heavy glass enclosures and new cabinetry,” he says. “Instead of plain-Jane tile, homeowners are choosing decorative tile work with mosaic patterns.” “Luxury items, like overhead shower heads or rain showers are high on the list as well,” says Gonzolo Garcia at JRG Builder & Remodelers and vice-president of the Remodelers Council. HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS Not everyone thinks how bathrooms contribute to his or her overall well-being. But they can, according to the NKBA. *Proper ventilation removes humidity, which can contribute

KITCHEN PLANNER

This dual-purpose, trasitional style kitchen island by Thompson Custom Homes provides space for preparing and eating meals.

KITCHEN DESIGN

What You Need to Know to Get Started There are basically eight steps to creating your kitchen, according to the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA). ONE: ASSESS NEEDS. What is needed – an office, a TV area, a recycling center, an island, etc? How will it be used – for family only or will large parties of people gather here? What about design style? The most popular looks are contemporary, traditional and transitional. What needs to be in the space for it to work? Top trends include wallmounted microwaves, French-door refrigerators, pull-out faucets, gas cooktops, and LED lighting. TWO: ESTABLISH A BUDGET RANGE. In 2010, the average kitchen cost between $20,000 and $49,000. Today, it has jumped to $50,000 to $99,000. Recognized as the heart of the home – where families and friends all tend to gather – it is no wonder people are investing both more time and money on design and materials. THREE: FIND A PROFESSIONAL. Because designing a kitchen these days constitutes a real investment, there is a benefit to hiring someone to guide the process. Certified kitchen designers are tested to rigorous and relevant standards. FOUR: FINALIZE ROOM LAYOUT AND DESIGN. Make notes on what does and does not work, based on current and past kitchen spaces. Consult with a professional on how to maximize the budget. FIVE: DECIDE ON A LOOK. Collect photos from magazines or Internet sites to determine what appeals. Visit showrooms, go on home tours and attend home shows for ideas. Are wood cabinets or painted ones preferred? What about the flooring? The top trends here point to natural stone, or ceramic and porcelain tiles. What type of countertops? There are

many choices, but most are opting for a solid surface, quartz or granite. SIX: CHOOSE PRODUCTS. There are many decisions to make. Gas or electric ranges? The most desired seems to be gas. Top trends: glass doors on wall cabinets, tall pantries, trash and recycling bins, pull-out racks and crown molding. SEVEN: PLAN FOR THE INSTALLATION. Consider who will be responsible for finding and supervising the electricians, plumbers, tile contractors, cabinet installers and other trades. Will permits need to be pulled? Eight: MAINTAIN THE SPACE. Test-drive everything in the kitchen, make sure it works. Keep all receipts, contracts, warranties and product information. Understand the proper care and maintenance of all new products.

REMODELING COSTS AND SOME ADVICE First and foremost, never pay 100 percent of the cost upfront. At the end of the job, make sure there are no liens. Ask all involved about their fees before the project begins. Understand the payment schedule and always get a written estimate with detailed specifications regarding services. According to the NKBA, the possible cost break-out, based on percentages of the total budget, is as follows:

A mini-facelift might be more affordable than gutting the entire kitchen. • While granite is still a classic, we have had more clients moving toward quartz products. • Linear and rectangular tiles are a huge hit -- in any size -- for backslashes. • Painted cabinets are back. • Whites, grays -- and even bold bright colors, such as aqua, tangerine and eggplant are “in.” •The least expensive quote doesn’t guarantee the best work.

Myron Lewis Lewis Construction 9125 Airport Blvd, 713-944-5257 www.yourcompletehomecare.com • Trending: Open-concept kitchens, granite countertops, solid wood cabinets (no particle board), ceramic and porcelain tiles, and deeper kitchen sinks with more countertops. • When devising your budget, think about what you want and need. Don’t compromise. Cost is always more than you think. And you get what you pay for. • Make sure everything that is to be done is all written down in a contract. Check contractor references.

• Top design styles are transitional and contemporary. • LED is the new standard in recessed lighting. Accent lights and under-cabinet task lights are big. • In most of our kitchens we are eliminating electrical outlets and switches from the backslashes. We conceal them underneath the upper cabinets whenever possible. • There’s increased interest in induction cooktops and combination ovens, which include steam and convection features. • Clients are going with darker cabinetry, more complex finishes -constructed mostly of cherry. • Use the best materials and resources you can afford.

• In remodeling kitchen or bath, best choice is granite. Exotic colors and fancy edges can be selected to move the “dial” out to fit the most unique requirements. Most universal taste, fits budgets and appeals to future homebuyers. • Don’t wait to update your home when wanting to sell it. Do it now so that you can enjoy it. • Realtors say location, location, location. But we say granite, granite, granite. • Close communication is essential when worker with a remodeler. Choose a reputable professional.

PLANTS FOR YOUR BATHROOM TRY THESE PLANTS SUITED FOR INDOOR LIVING Don't be fooled by decorator magazine pictures of kitchen counters overflowing with herb planters. Nor, French farm tables with rustic bowls crammed full of succulents. Sadly, these are staged for momentary effect. To get such a picture-perfect look, you would have to swap out these planters every week or so with another similarly planted container. The duplicate replacement is kept outside in the sun, waiting their turn to visit inside the house. It is the old “switch-a-roo” technique. For those who want long-term indoor plants, try plant species more suited for indoor environments. Sansevieria require nearly zero care. You might also know them by two other another names. The first is: snake plant. Their broad strap-like, upright leaves with light wavy stripes give the plant its the nickname. Because they also possess a sharp point at the end of the leaves, they are sometimes called Mother-in-law’s tongue. Although, I understand they're not supposed to be called this anymore! This Sansevieria genus offers dozens of variety. Most are great houseplants for medium- to low-light areas and only need water once a month. The variegated Golden Birdnest Sansevieria (‘Gold Hahni’) is a fat little 6 x 6-inch mound streaked with yellow. Additional ones to consider include Hosta ‘Viridis-Marginata’ and a semi-dwarf 'Grey Ghost' reaching 18 inches. The Zamioculcas Zamiifolia or ZZ plant (‘Zanzibar Gem’) is a great choice for low light. The shiny succulent’s arching fronds can reach 3 feet. Water once monthly. The bristly tiny Tillandsia need no soil and can be popped into little pots or seashells for the bathroom vanity. Mist weekly.

HOLIDAY WONDERLAND Family celebrates and shares Christmas traditions BY MARSHA CANRIGHT

B

ehind the front door of the classic two-story saltbox in the Rice Village area, a holiday wonderland awaits. Each December, interior designer Susan Alexander and her husband, Robert Clarke, work together with their three daughters to dress every room in handmade, holiday décor. Two 7 1/2-feet trees sparkle top to toe. On one, with an underlay of hot pink boas, hangs hundreds of hand-blown glass ornaments. The other, a more formal tree, is festooned in silver and crystal ornaments and strands of pearls.

Nutcrackers, handmade needlepoint, and thick green garlands deck the home’s interior with seasonal flare, and outdoors, three thousand tiny white lights illuminate the hollies, azaleas and a lofty live oak. “Our house was built in 1935 and though it is moderate in size, it is large when it comes to a love for the holidays,” says Alexander. Throughout the house, whimsical collections of snowmen and carved Santa figures parade on the mantels and in glass cabinets. Always on display: Alexander’s beloved collection of

The family’s second tree, decorated in pearls, cyrstals and silver, is in the living room, welcoming guests entering the home.

Majolica, a 19th century pottery modeled in naturalistic shapes and glazed in lively colors. Garlands, each with their own special theme, drape over the mirrors, wind up the stairway, and dress the mantels and bookcases. “There is a candy garland, a Majolica garland and my favorite, the nature garland,” says Alexander. The nature garland is wired with a miniature glass beehive and tiny bees buzzing about. There are birds and bugs, flora and fauna, all calling for a second glance. A favorite for children and adults, are the glass domes or vignettes, ranging in height from 12 to 30 inches. Each “vignette” brims with miniatures illustrating a scene from a beloved poem or story, such as “The Night Before Christmas” and the “Wizard of Oz.” These are Alexander’s handcrafted vignettes, and are only

shared during the holidays. Throughout the year, Susan and Robert collect miniatures to fit within existing vignettes or for new imagined ones. “In the Oz vignette, there is a tornado of spun wool and a tiny monkey that is cloaked in a red jacket and wings, of course,” Alexander says. “One side of the dome depicts a rural farm home in black and white tones and the other side in living color. The yellow brick road winds from the base of the tree depicting scenes along the way to the ultimate destination, Oz, at the very top.” “All of this does take a great deal of time but the end result is worth the effort,” she adds. Once Alexander overheard her daughter tell a friend: “You should come over to our house; it’s magical.” “That felt good,” she says. “For me, it’s about remembering 47

the magic of Christmas, and sharing it.” The family does all the decorating themselves, usually several days during the long Thanksgiving weekend. The basic holiday decorations are the same each year giving the home a traditional holiday feel with familiar garlands, trees, and collections. Still, every year there’s something new, and family members are encouraged to get creative with the stock materials. This year, a

HOWDEEEEEE! I’M PEARL. The gracious ladies and gents at the SPCA nicknamed me “Minnie Pearl” due to my enthusiastic greetin’s. I’m an eight-month-old hound-dawg gal with a zest for livin’. After all, I am a country girl from Louisiana, where they like to have a good time and put on a show. And I’m no different, sister! I don’t even mind wearin’ floppy hats with flowers on ‘em. (I could do without the hokey pricetag hangin’ off though). Go-ah-ally! “Ewe-stun” sure is big! Ya’ll got more loops than a roller coaster! And it sure is hot around here. If it cools down to 80 degrees, it must be Christmas time. But I’m gettin’ used to Texas and hope I get a chance to perform for ya soon. Ya’ll come on down to the SPCA now, ya hear?!
