Get HRCA! Talking trash The HRCA continues the preferredprovider opt-in trash program with Pro Disposal. The goal is to provide valuable service at a lower cost while championing environmental stewardship and sustainability. The community continues to benefit from the program with Pro Disposal as home owners receive significant savings and are provided free recycling pickup while limiting the number of trucks on our streets each day. Jump on board with Pro Disposal and be a part of our community's green initiatives. Call to join 303-791-3827 or visit our web site at www.HRCAonline.org/Trash.

Put a lid on it! Please remember to keep your trash contained. It's important that trash be kept in sealed containers and upright while at the curb. Please compact your trash as much as possible (making it heavier and less likely to blow over), place it in bags, and put the bags into tightly covered cans before putting out at the curb.

February brought us a Super Bowl Championship, so what can we expect now in March! For one thing, my favorite holiday, St. Patrick’s Day, is coming up on the 17th! The Wearin’ O’ the Green is upon us! We should also be seeing more green in our vegetation by now, so take a moment to see if Mother Nature has created any home improvement projects for you before we get too much further along into the season.

Green Is Good: When it comes to money and energy “green is good”! Did you know that HRCA has a community partner who can give us both of these things in the form of solar panels? Sun Power by Photon Brothers won a bid last year to provide discounts and energy savings to homeowners in Highlands Ranch! As the temperature rises, many of us are thinking about getting outdoors and enjoying the warmer weather. Along with that, home improvements come to mind and many will look to install solar panels on their homes. Check out the following web site for more details: www.HRCAonline.org/Solar.

Board Election: March is also the month for our Board of Director’s election. This year

three seats are open. The deadline to submit applications to run for those seats was January 31, 2016. Our current Board Members, Brock Norris and Jeff Suntken, resubmitted for their seats on the Board and will be running against two homeowners, Kurt Huffman and Jack Patterson. The Board serves the community through countless hours by donating their time to make Highlands Ranch a great community to live, work and play! The election will take place on March 15 at the Annual Delegate meeting held in the Gordon Von Stroh room at Eastridge Recreation Center.

earlier in my career. The Board of Directors believe in planning for the future; and although some may wonder why certain construction projects haven’t begun yet, it is good to understand that a significant amount of leg work needs to occur before precious capital is expended. Consequently, two major planning efforts are occurring right now that all of our homeowners can be excited to learn about. The first is a comprehensive plan for our 8,200 acres of open space fondly referred to as our Backcountry Wilderness Area. This plan will evaluate, through a public process, what residents would like to see in this HRCA-owned asset. The second major effort has just been completed. It is a space plan for all of our recreation centers. This plan will create the foundation to move forward with renovations to Northridge Recreation Center and beyond. Stay tuned in the near future for more updates! Enjoy the beginning of spring this month and remember…THINK GREEN!

Spring Is in the Air This is a good time to take a step back and look at the overall condition of your of property. If you are planning any exterior improvements, be sure to submit plans to the Architectural Committee for approval. Submittals are accepted online at www.HRCAonline.org/Improvements or by visiting the Community Improvement Services (CIS) Office in the Recreation Center at Eastridge.

Will Your Fence Last Another Year? During neighborhood surveys we have noticed a lot of fences in disrepair. The Residential Improvement Guidelines require homeowners maintain their fences. While the Metro District continues to replace and re-stain fences along the major arterials, it may be a good time to repair and restain your own fence. Please remember to submit for your fence stain color.

Spring Cleaning - Don't Forget Your Driveway How to remove oil stains on the driveway? One method is to pour paint thinner on the spot. Saturating the area creates an oily residue. Then spread cat litter, baking soda, corn meal, or dry sand on the area. Allow this to sit overnight, sweep up, and the spot should be gone.

HRCA Software Upgrades The HRCA is excited to announce that software upgrades are coming soon! What started as a need in the 2015 Budget process is finally being implemented after many months of researching and exploring options. We are thrilled to be partnering with NetSuite for our new financial management system. What does this mean for our homeowners? Easier payment options, better account interaction, more efficient and quick turnaround on household account issues and so much more behind the scenes! Also coming in 2016 will be an upgrade to our recreation software which will allow for easier programming and registration. Stay tuned for more exciting announcements and updates on the technology front in Highlands Ranch.

Finance Professional Volunteers Needed The Finace committee is looking for Finance professionals to join our team. Please see the web site for more information at www.HRCAonline.org/Committees.

Election of directors & Delegates ANNUAL MEETING OF DELEGATES (Election of Directors) – Five members comprise the HRCA Board of Directors. Currently there are three open positions that will be filled at the Annual Meeting of Delegates on March 15. There are five candidates running for the three open positions. The candidates are Kurt Huffman, Scott Lemmon, Melissa Park, Jack Patterson and Dennis Seymour. For more information about the director election process, to review the candidates’ data forms, or to review candidates’ response to questions posed by delegates, please visit www.HRCAonline.com/Board.

ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS – This year, as in all even-numbered years, members (homeowners) within even-numbered districts and all districts currently not represented by a delegate, elect their district delegate. The 2016 elections take place at the Annual Meeting of Members on April 26, 4:30 p.m. at Eastridge, Gordon Von Stroh Community Room. For more information about delegate elections or to locate your district delegate, visit www.HRCAonline.org/ Leadership. culture in the ranch & the SCFD In 2016, the Highlands Ranch Cultural Affairs Association (CAA) received $102,513.17 from the SCFD to fund its free or discounted cultural programming. Additional discretionary funds are distributed to the CAA to administer Art Encounters, a rotating outdoor sculpture exhibit. The Scientific & Cultural Facilities District’s (SCFD) primary purpose is to “provide for the enlightenment and entertainment of the public through the production, presentation, exhibition, advancement or preservation of art, music, theater, dance, zoology, botany, natural history or cultural history” through funding to cultural organizations. Since 1989, the SCFD has distributed funds from a 1/10 of 1% sales and use tax to cultural facilities throughout seven counties in the Denver metropolitan area. Douglas County Cultural Council receives a portion of the SCFD funds which is distributed to various county cultural organizations including the Highlands Ranch Cultural Affairs Association (CAA). Culture in Highlands Ranch provides entertainment, stimulates conversation, and enhances our quality of life.

Registration begins! Registration for all summer activities begins March 16! Registration for our summer Outdoor Discovery Camps is now open! Space is limited and our summer camps are expected to fill up, so don’t delay. Our Outdoor Discovery Camps call the Backcountry home. We offer horse camps and themed nature camps for kids ages 7-14. Our camps are full-day (with before and after care available) and run from May 30 - August 5. From outdoor exploration and team building, to live animal interactions and crafts, every day at camp is an adventure! Scientific studies are showing that time outside, in nature, can help with anxiety, depression, attention deficit disorder, and more. One of the most important things we can do for our children today is to get them outside– let us help!

The HRCA is in the final steps of establishing a 501(c)3 for the Backcountry Wilderness Area called the Highlands Ranch Backcountry Conservation and Education Fund. The purpose of the new 501(c)3 is to enhance the Backcountry Wilderness Area through conservation and restoration of wildlife habitats and to provide experiences in nature and science in the outdoors for all ages. The 501(c)3 will be a fundraising branch for the Backcountry Wilderness Area and will be able to receive contributions from individuals, corporations, and other institutions. We consistently hear from our members how important and valuable the Backcountry Wilderness Area is to them and their families. Those who truly value the Backcountry Wilderness Area may contribute to its care and success at an even greater level.
