HRC promotes generosity in first ‘12 Days of Christmas’ Project By Bennies Agnazata and Arianne Rodriguez HOLY Rosary College promoted the season of giving to students through organizing a schoolwide project entitled “12 Days of Christmas” with the theme: “Sharing the love of Jesus this Christmas”. The project was implemented from December 2 to 16, 2014. Rosarians were asked to “share their blessings” by giving away food and other materials as an early Christmas present to the different sectors, families, and individuals. School administrator Ms. Myla Pauline Pecson instructed each department and year level to pinpoint their own beneficiaries and the amount and kind of gifts that they will specifically give. The pre-school students shared their blessings to the maintenance staff of HRC, while the elementary students extended their help to those students
in need from a public school in San Pedro, as well as kids from an orphanage in Calamba. On the other hand, the high school students came to give something for the prisoners from the city jail, kids from “Bahay Kalinga” and indigent families from Santa Rosa. For the Grade 7, Grade 8, and Fourth Year levels which mainly gave to indigent families, some students were chosen to perform at the school’s gymnasium as part of a series of short programs to entertain the families they invited over. Others even organized some games for the kids and also gave away some additional prizes. As a culminating activity of the “12 Days” Project, a Christmas Chorale Competition was held at the school gymnasium on December 20, 2014 which pitted each section per year level against each other, to present given different classic Christ-
mas carols. Koro Rosario Conductor and Music teacher Mr. Allan Larioza prepared the music pieces that the students used for the competition. Assigned pieces were: Tuloy na Tuloy pa rin ang Pasko for Grade 7, Kumukutikutitap for Grade 8, It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year for Grade 9, and Jingle Bells for Fourth Year. Grade 7 Galileo, Grade 8 Darwin, Grade 9 Priestley and Fourth Year Newton were hailed as winners for this chorale competition. At the end of the program, the high school students gathered onstage to sing in unison the song “Thank You, Thank You, Ang Babait Ninyo” (ABSCBN’s official Christmas station ID theme song for 2014) to surprise longtime nurse of HRC Ms. Joy Nicol, who herself was a recipient of part of the proceeds from the event to aid in her recovery and medication expenses. ■

THE Interact Club of Holy Rosary College (ICHRC) organized an Anti-Child Trafficking seminar for elementary pupils from Grades 4 to 6 last February 3, aiming to broadcast the information about the severe issue of Child Trafficking in the country. The seminar also aims to give knowledge among teenagers so that they may also help in spreading the word to others, resulting in helping the whole community. In relation to this, the organization trained and examined the lecturers for this event to ensure that each of them is well-equipped. Each classrooms consisted of three lecturers from different grade levels and one officer from the organization that will guide and observe them throughout the day. The whole day seminar was full of fun learning experiences as students enjoyed the activities, ice breakers, and interactions prepared by the lecturers. ■
WITH the school year ending, a new batch of Student Government Candidates will go through the second Harapan sa Holy electoral forum on March 19 this time with all of the candidates expected to speak out. The said event will test the candidates’ flexibility when it comes to ideas as they answer their way through a series of questions from members of the audience, a panel of respectable individuals, and their opponents themselves. . This year, the mechanics now requires most if not all of the candidates to answer rather than last year’s event that was only between the running mayors. A project of The Beads Campus Media Arts, Harapan sa Holy aims to help students gather knowledge about the candidates and how well they will perform their duty loosely based on their answers, for a more informed decision come election day. ■
THE High School Department has selected the Exemplary Conduct awardees for this year: Angel Estudillo for Grade 7, Karen Morales for Grade 8, Maerylle Gale Zaide for Grade 9, and Jeanine Lataquin for Fourth Year. The selection process was conducted in two levels. First, each student was ordered to list the top five students in their section who they think is worthy of the award. The two students for each section with the highest votes tallied will be the ones considered as the nominees for the selection of the conduct awardee, in which the nominees per year level will be ranked by the teachers wherein the teachers were given the responsibility of ranking students from the year levels where they teach, with 1 being the highest and 5 being the lowest. The candidate from each year level which has the lowest sum of their ranks from the corresponding teachers will be declared the chosen exemplary conduct awardee. ■

OPINION
The greater good How much love does it take to die for the sake of strangers? Answer: More than how much you love your life and your family and your friends combined. Just last month, 44 Special Armed Force (SAF) troopers died heroically in a bloody encounter against thousands of armed men from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), Bangsamoro Freedom Fighters (BFF) and a ‘private armed group’ to catch an international terrorist nicknamed “Marwan” who was said to be hiding in Mamasapano, Maguindanao under the protection of the MILF. These 44 SAF troopers were found to be fighting nonstop for nine hours until their very last breath as enemies overpowered them and no more troops came to their aid. The fallen 44 were chopped to pieces and are hardly unrecognizable. Videos and pictures of these soldiers at the very act of getting brutally killed by the MILF looking as if they were having a blast were even found in social networking sites – highly assumed that the ones who posted them were the same ones who killed the 44 soldiers. What is even sadder is that when the soldier’s bodies were recovered, some were still clutching pictures of their spouses and children. The whole operation, without a doubt, ended up with an ‘overkill’. Furthermore, this entire encounter added more fuel to the fire between the Philippine Administration and the BANGSAMORO Peace Leaders because what more effective way to interfere with peace talks but with the other side’s armed forces found to be harboring and protecting a very dangerous international terrorist/ bomb-maker and killing soldiers in the most brutal ways possible like shooting them in the head at a .5mm point blank range and posting videos of them doing it in the internet? Indeed, until comrades and the family of the deceased remains thirsting for the blood of the people who killed their friends, fathers and husbands, the residents of Mindanao who wishes for their own centralized form of government, the BANGSAMORO, might as well goodbye to it because what use are peace talks if they continue to allow terrorists to roam free on their land? However, we must always remember the people who fought for the sake of eradicating the injustices that roam free in our country and are also, in the end, are victims of it. In essence, the fallen 44 died as real heroes worthy of recognition. Although recently, there have been major issues regarding the whole operation like the fact that the whole operation had neither the approval of the Commander-in-Chief nor the PNP General but the most important thing is that despite how many issues will surface, we should not let any them shroud the real story – that 44 people sacrificed their own lives to apprehend a professional bombmaker/ terrorist who would have killed countless of lives. Including ours. In the end, to fight an impossible fight for the greater good of the country takes more love for one’s country and countrymen than any other human being can muster. ■

Stopping stupid votes LOVE, for most, is fleeting and so is our love for student Government (SG) politicians. With the SG elections drawing close, aspiring student politicians are now starting alliances and making platforms/ promises but like any other SG elections, the excitement for the upcoming new student leaders whose goals are to make our Rosarian Society better will only last until the very beginning when promises are still fresh and everyone is still convinced that whoever they voted are most suited for the job. As soon as we are in the middle of the year, either most or all of the SG’s initial projects/ platforms that landed them their jobs in the first place will be ignored. So why do we even vote if the most recent SG’s prove that cannot even finish what they started? In the end, elections are either just a popularity contest or like really convincing infomercials wherein they buy the most convincing product/ candidate and the problem is, people are too easily convinced despite actually knowing the candidates only a day before the actual elections – the miting de avance.
Freedom boundaries KEEPING an open mind in the world we live in where people side-by-side clamor on and on about their opposing thoughts is difficult. Don’t get me wrong, Freedom of Speech is a right, but when you’re literally shooting down your opinions on others, then that is just too much. Love is the all-around measure of all things possible. Love for God builds the Christian faith, love for others builds unity, but something as good as love often bring up forth the negative sides. What’s supposed to be a fun, non-threatening, loving, experience in embracing what you love turns into that rollercoaster of people with disbelief, tossing their opinions, waging wars, all in efforts trying to disprove you of your faith with their spiritual superiority. In the end, just useless clamoring which would be better left ignored. Although, I admit I entertained some guilt weeks after the Charlie Hebdo tragedy. Angrily tweeting my frustrations against the Muslim community, who in fact should not ever be blamed as a whole My apologies to my Muslim brothers and sisters, for I’m sure that this extremist attack should not define their whole love for their religion. Without much thinking, my frustrated tweets were done in defense of the Freedom of Expression, which was essentially the main point of the Islam extremists in Paris.

Although the candidates have more than a year before the elections to make friends or gather potential voting parties, they only have one day to prove that they are worthy leaders by showing the most convincing promises, in my opinion one day is not enough to convince me that they can actually keep their word because for one thing, recent miting di avances I attended mostly suggest that their promises mostly tackle on the voters interest or promises that they think can get them the most votes not promises that can actually be accomplished. I will give you an example. Aspiring often mayors say that they can lessen the price of foods in the canteen but have there even be any change in the recent years? Obviously, nothing. All in all, we should watch out for candidates that feed on our interests to get votes. Stop being stupid voters and think more rationally on who you want to vote for because falling in love at the first sight to a convincing politician’s promises just because we liked what he/she said would might as well lead to another string of useless projects and forgotten promises. ■

I don’t know if the Charlie Hebdo went too far, maybe they did, but not in any way could that validate the 11 deaths caused by the extremists’ attacks. 1.6 million people came together on January 11th in Paris, and several millions like me were hooked on their television screens and social media declaring “nous sommes tous Charlie” (We are all Charlie), came in unison to make a point: not that the victims were right, but what they died for as a result for what they did was wrong (And in the name of God, “Allahu Akbar, God is greatest!”). “No bullet, no knife, no bomb, should limit our conversations about all things, religion included.” Looking at the negative banters of people, they can just be as easily dismissed as senseless. There’s not much use in trying to defend your belief, because people will always look at their side much higher. The thing is, Freedom of Expression is a universal right that no person should be deprived of. As much as there is love and beauty to express in our human nature, there is also the (harshly) grotesque of negative emotions clamoring for release, for expression, for attention, for satisfaction. “All words have consequences. Silent valentine IS there a possible way to say 'I love you' without saying the word 'love'? Everyone says that the word 'Love' is a very powerful word. Sometimes, it is used to express the deep longing feeling you have for someone that you truly treasure; and sometimes the word is abused repeatedly said- only to confuse or to trick their socalled lover. Apparently, there isn't any other word more powerful than 'Love' to describe what you feel for someone you long for, but there is something more louder. My grandparents have been married for 45years and for 16 years not once have I heard them exchange the word 'Love' to one another. It isn't that they didn't love each other anymore it's just that they didn't need to say it to hear it or to know it.
DANIELLE GWYN L. ELIGUE danielle_gwyn@yahoo.com.ph
The fact that they would eat breakfast together, help each other tend their garden, walk hand in hand around the mall even if they were lost, and fall asleep together while watching television was enough to know that they loved each other. The little things count the most and actions are louder than words. You don't have to give a dozen roses and scream 'I love you!' to your love one to let them know you do. Sometimes a simple 'How was your day?' every night is enough, maybe even better. Sometimes looking at your parents say good bye to each other every morning, your siblings smiling at morning texts, your grandparents bickering and laughing at one another, or catching yourself thinking about someone you love is enough to know or let them know you care. I guess there is a way to say 'I love you' without saying the word 'Love'. ■
Love of a good shepherd THE Pope is taking steps to end the controversies held by the Catholic Church. He is a good example of a leader who willingly does his responsibilities and duties for the sake of everyone. As the leader of the worldwide Church by March 2013, Pope Francis has set big changes starting from his domain at the Vatican. He pursued simple ways inside the Basilica such as not celebrating grand ceremonies and wore a plain Papal outfit. Also, he baptized a child with its parents unmarried and led a reform against corruption among officials of the Vatican City. The Holy Father continued to impress the world by his actions and decisions. He made his stance in oppressing issues such as terrorism, human trafficking and poverty. When math loves back “EVERY person has his own strengths and weaknesses.” This says that every person is different. Speaking of different, I think of the math wizards of HRC. Every year, they gather awards from different competitions in all levels. Despite of this can we say that these achievements are enough to prove our competence in mathematics? There are many Rosarian math wizards. One of them is Albert John Patupat, a Grade 9 student who dominated in a math competition in Daejong, South Korea last July. He won gold medals and brought home the honor of being the top scorer. He also won the bronze medal in the China Mathematical Olympiad. As the school year passes by, more competitions are being dominated by Rosarians. These competitions include the Mathscore Competition, Malayan Math Wizards Cup, Search for the Most Outstanding Mathematician in Laguna, Philippine Math Olympiad, and MTAP Math

Challenge. This school year has been a prosperous year for HRC because of the great achievements it has received from its students. The sudden increase of the school’s achievements is also unexpected. This proves that Rosarians are more focused on math this year compared to previous years. Every year, however, there is an undeniable threat on the school’s winning streak, so it opens its gates to the best students in math from the elementary level. Aside from this, teachers are advised that they must improve and retain healthy relationships with students, and engage them in solving math challenges to improve their ability. Also, students are advised to attend MTG classes on Saturdays to take in additional concepts and techniques for solving tricky problems. Remember that high involvement, patience, and of course high motivation on the student’s part will make math more exciting. ■

consequentialness.” –John R. Dallas, Jr. People have even taken great lengths just to tame this dangerously harsh within us—which is why when we are young, we are taught discipline, manner, proper ethics and etiquette, why we have television shows such as Wansapanataym, television shows or movies revolving or ending with morals and lessons, why we have a constructed justice system, laws, and rules within different premises. Truth is, I don’t understand why anyone— anyone—would be bothered that there are limitations in our Freedom of Expression. Life itself has its limits. We must love, but we mustn’t give too much for love. We must express, but only when we should, not just when we can. In this life, just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. My English teacher once told me that should has much more responsibility than can—and that should set the word. ■

HE lives of my kind are not always easy. We have our own ups and downs too like the ones who buy and make us as a gift for their special someone. Almost all of the time, of every year we're just idling inside our containers, however, when that certain day comes, a horde of humans who are in love come after us. That day is Valentine’s Day. Me, as a heart-shaped candy, I have seen so many things in life that includes love. Most of my family have already fulfilled the purposes of their lives. That is to make themselves a representation for showing affection and love to someone; However, some did not accomplish their goals successfully. The reason is some of the ones who use them got rejected. Right now, inside my sugar coat, I'm waiting for someone to notice me. I want to be where I belong already. I want to go to where I'm made for. Being a sweet candy for you to taste, that's not all of me. I'm also a symbol of love formed into a shape of heart. ■

UR minds usually go to the thought of our lovers when the 14 th of February comes up. The thought, time, and effort that go into these gifts that we hope would make our lover’s heart flutter and the butterflies in their stomach erupt. Our heads spin and our eyes twinkle when we receive these gifts, a message that they hope would knock on your heart to let them in. The decorations everywhere show red and hearts adorning halls and doors to get everyone in on the festivities and make us feel like it really is a day for loving. Couples hold hands and friends share laughter, spreading joy on the indeed magical day. After the celebrations end, and the gifts are all given, we come home tired and wanting a long rest after the tiring day. We come home, satisfied from the love received and given. Some may feel bad because they’ve been rejected and comes home feeling like they just want to sink in a hole and never come back. It’s alright to be rejected, and it’s alright to not receive the kind of love you wanted because there are people who will love you without thinking, who will love you entirely for who you are. People like our mothers. Most of the time, we forget that there is someone who loves us for who we are and who will accept us no matter what. Our mothers loved us from the day we were born, and even before then. They love us because they let us live, because they raised us the best way they know how. You could see it with the way that her eyes light up and her smile shows the lines on her face when you wrap your fingers around her thumb or when you would smile a toothless smile with the purest little mind when you were a baby. You could see it when she would cheer you on when you get an A+ on your school works and support you even if you get a low grade, how she would ask if you made friends and make sure you have your lunch with you when you leave when you were in grade school. You could see it when she endlessly consoles you because your friends were mean, how she would run her hand down your back and listens to the words you say because she understands, how she would warmly smile at you when you tell her about your crush and how cute they are when you were in middle school. How she would stay up with you all night because you were crouched over a project and your eyes were brimming with tears because of the possibility that you won’t finish it, but she still has faith, how she would quietly stay and listen when you’re on about being misunderstood and ranting about the things that happen to a teenager and how you hate it. How she would proudly smile and say congratulations when you finally graduate from college and you’re on your way to lead a life on your own, to pave your own way and call your own shots. How she’d comfort you over the phone when your job applications didn’t get accepted and she’d tell you “I have your back, I will always be here”. How her tears would escape from her eyes because her little baby is standing in front of the altar, starting a new chapter of their life, away from her and she wishes that your lover would take care of you well like she did. She’d worry and call you almost every day to see how married life is going and if your partner is treating you well. You’d see her love when she sees her grandchildren run around and sometimes ask her to tell stories from her time and her sweet smile appears. You’d still see it when she’s on her bed, giving you instructions on how to take good care of your children, to look after yourself well, and to treat your partner right. Then she asks you not to forget her and she’ll tell you “Mum is always here, I will always watch over you, my little angel” and tears spill down from your eyes as she takes her last breath with a smile, knowing that her angel has a good head on their shoulders. Our mother’s unconditional love that cannot be replaced by any gift or anyone who offers their heart to us, it’s always their love that we will look for. No matter how we forget to say “I love you” or how we forget to say “Thank you”, her love remains and never leaves. She has dedicated her life for us from the day that she knew she would be a mother and that she will be taking care of a product of her love and she’ll cherish that person. We shouldn’t forget to remind her how much we love her because we might be so busy with our own lives that we forget that they’re growing older too and we might regret not telling her before we lose the chance to do so forever. ■

By Aliah Jean Tan HE celebration of love and affection, Valentine's Day, is one of the most precious and most important days for those who are in a relationship. Valentine's Day is when someone would send greeting cards or gifts like chocolates, and flowers, or when a boy would ask a girl out on
a date. How about the singletons out there? What will they be doing on February 14? Would they have a good day, or would they be bitter all day? Whenever Valentine's Day comes, people who are not in a relationship tend to refuse accepting their statuses. They get envious of the people around them who receive special things from their significant others. They will also somehow feel painful emotions and experience unpleasant or uncomfortable feelings because everyone around them is all lovey dovey with someone and they’re not. There are also people who would put something on social networking sites saying that there is no such thing as Valentine's Day or February 14 on their calendars, making it more obvious how sour they are over being single. Someone or maybe a friend would advice those who are alone on that day to spend time with their families or friends and have some fun instead of being miserable all day. To all the single people out there, put your hands up and be proud. Be happy and not lonely. Someday, there will come a time when you can finally celebrate it with the one you like or love. How does the saying go? Don't be bitter, be better! ■

ALENTINE’S Day is upon us. Do you have a valentine yet? Well if you have one that’s good for you, but if you don’t have a valentine this valentine’s day it is okay you’re not alone, many of us don’t even plan to have a valentine on that day. Valentine’s Day is not just about having a date or a boyfriend, girlfriend on that day, it is about giving love to everyone like for an example your friends, classmates, family, etc. Everyone, or not everyone just many, people think that for you to love or the meaning of love, is that you should have a boyfriend, girlfriend, crush what so ever. The act of love is anywhere, in school, in your home, its anywhere. Let’s talk about the first example, in school. You can love your classmates like as friend, like you’re there when they are in need of help, why? Because you care for them, because you love them, because they are also there when you need them the most. Like our family they are there when you need them, you talk to them when you need somebody to talk to, why? Because they love you, they are your family. You don’t need a boyfriend, girlfriend for you to love. You have your friends, your family, your classmates, your teachers. They all love you. So why look for love when the act of love is already in front of you? ■

OMEO and Juliet is a tragic love story written by William Shakespeare late 1500's. It's about two young lovers, Juliet Capulet and Romeo Montague whose families are long-time enemies. It is one of the most popular plays of William Shakespeare during his career's years of existence, a tragic and a heavy drama. That's how we would usually describe Romeo and Juliet’s story, but what is it really? How does the flow of the story begin? The first setting of the story begins in Verona, a city in Italy between the servants of the Montague and the Capulet's. Count Paris, the prince of Verona, asked Capulet, Juliet's father about marrying Juliet, but Capulet refused and told Paris to wait for two more years. A grand ball was planned to be held at the Capulet residence and Count Paris was invited to attend the said event. Romeo Montague attends the same ball to meet Rosaline, one of the Capulet's nieces, but instead of meeting Rosaline, he met and fell in love with Juliet. Romeo expresses his love for Juliet in the Capulet's orchard, despite of the conflict between the Capulet and the Montague. The two young lovers easily got to know each other and decided to get married the next day. Juliet didn't know that she was betrothed to Count Paris. When she learns this information, she expresses her great dislike for it and decides to buy a potion that will put her into a deep coma for almost three days to delay the wedding with Paris. Romeo finds out and thinks that Juliet is really dead, so he buys a poison and got to the place where Juliet was buried. Paris and Romeo had a duel and Romeo happens to kill Paris. Believing that Juliet was dead Romeo drinks the poison. Juliet awakens and finds Romeo dead. She uses a dagger to kill herself out of loss and depression. After the death of the three, their families decided to reconcile and end the war between them. Romeo and Juliet's story is a good example of a tragedy but is also a story of love in different conditions, different people and different kinds. The story was played in many theaters, stage plays and musicals. The story was also revised by many people like William Davenant but the true message and meaning of the story remains. The plot of the story is full of exciting parts and scenes including the climax, but aside from it being a love story, it's full of different examples of conflict, conflicts between the main characters. An enjoyable story to read, definitely watch and understand for the season of love. ■

HERE is no denying that even at a young age, we spend a fraction of our lives thinking about the concept of being in love. Now I will not write an article about what one feels when he/she is in love, because quite frankly, I am not some expert on the subject matter. However, what I will share are a few feelings (mostly from other people) that I think a lot of us youngsters experience that we think come close to being in love. You never get uncomfortable with each other. When you are with the one you like, you keep checking yourself if you look neat. It is true friendship if you never get uncomfortable whenever he/she is around. You let him/her in, even you just woke up and you still have the “morning breath”. You and your friend don’t always fight. You feel cool with each (Continued on page 8)

VERY relationship has its flaws, every person has their imperfections, and every story has their own ending. But then you came and my opinion about love changed and it is all your fault. Enter Wattpad. In Wattpad, you can create your own love story, own prince charming or girl of your dreams, and your perfect ending—happy or sad. But in reality, you cannot do that because in real life, no one knows what will happen in the future and nobody knows when or how will our story end. Happy endings do exist but a relationship without fights and all happiness do not. They just give us false hopes about our future love story that our heart beats with. As of the moment, many teenagers are being hooked into reading wattpad stories because through this, they can relate themselves to the characters and imagine their own prince or princess that they want to spend their life with; celebrity or a common people. Also, people tend to apply what they read on wattpad to their lives because they are feeling envious of the character on that particular story, so the result of their relationship will be FAILED because they want the scenes in the story to happen in their relationship when the truth is it is impossible. We cannot revise our story, instead, let us make sure that whatever outcome will happen in our relationship, let us just accept it whole-heartedly for us to be happy. Wattpad is just an application or a website wherein we are free to daydream, fantasize, drool, or whatever it is that you want to do but just to wake you up, this life is our reality, not the character’s reality; so do not compare our lives with their lives. ■

O move on from something, you must first know what it is. What is a crush? A crush is a brief but intense infatuation for someone. A crush is in which you find a personality or a quality of a person attractive. It is a lighter feeling than love, but still, a crush can still distract a human from what he/she is doing. Instead of sleeping the face of the other person pops into your mind. Sometimes, you absentmindedly find yourself staring at him/her. But alas! Sometimes, those feelings cannot be reciprocated by the other being. That’s when people want to get that crush out of their minds. And here are the ways: Get rid of everything that reminds you of that person- Whether it’s a toy or an animal, get rid of everything. Talk to friends about it- Tell them what you feel and maybe they’ll give you tips and comfort for your feelings. Distract yourself- Hangout with a new companion, try a new hobby or even read a book. Just do something new so your mind would not get so worked out on thinking about him/her. Stop yourself- Whenever you hear or remember something about your crush, stop yourself from thinking about that person. If he/she cannot return your feelings. Then that person is not worthy of you. You’re the only one that will get affected if you cling to your feelings. Think about that person’s negative qualities- Think of that person’s unattractive sides and convince yourself that he/she is not right for you. For example, if you see your crush picking his/her nose, convince yourself that you cannot be with a person who picks his/her own nose on public. Accept the truth- Whether you like it or not, there’s nothing you could do about his/her emotions. You just need to accept that maybe that person isn’t the right one for you. In life, there would be people that follow through to what you want. That’s reality. You can’t let these little crushes to crush you. The ways written above are just procedures to follow when you want to move on from a crush. Moving on from that person is not guaranteed. The outcome will still come from how you made an effort to forget your feelings from them. ■

other, there’s never any drama. You always think about them. You cannot go more than a few minutes without thinking about them, even you just hung-out earlier that day, you keep thinking about the things that the both of you can do on your next hang-out. You always find yourself smiling when you’re looking at their picture. Your friend makes you feel a little nervous. When you are starting to fall for your friend, you find yourself stuttering in a normal conversation, and your heart seems to go out of our chest when your friend walks in. And you always find yourself thinking about what to say
Peace and order Can you imagine living a world without any fights and wars in our nations? Many people are hoping to achieve World Peace, because it is teaches us on respecting everyone in the world despite our differences. World peace requires total harmony and worldwide agreement among all the people all over the world because disagreement can disrupt our way to peace. World peace is also just an idea from many people so they can prevent further warfare. We humans can achieve peace as long as we become better persons who listen and respect everyone, if we do that and respect everything in this world maybe the world wouldn't be as bad as it is right this moment. People are well misunderstood because they have their beliefs, culture, discrimination, and competition among all countries and they
to him/ her or if you look ugly and stupid. You are overprotective of your friend. You always find yourself texting and calling your friend when they are out of town. You feel nervous when you see them engaged in a new extreme sport, or when you see him/ her hangout with the wrong people. And you really get mad when someone hurt your friend. And it’s like you want to punch really hard that someone in the face. Now, have you experienced at least one of these things I listed above? If not, you shouldn’t worry. If yes, these are just feelings and experiences. There’s a right time to take these seriously. ■

need to seek their truths and understanding. World peace also takes a lot of time, making agreements for all the countries are almost impossible because some of them have conflicts for other nations. If you look the things today, we always hear many crimes and violence everywhere, it may seem negative but we don’t see that the whole world is letting go of these things, so the peace may not be possible for us. Some world leaders also try to settle conflicts by declaring war to other countries and discriminate them Some idealists think it is possible to achieve peace because we can prevent wars and violence from happening. We can also forget all of our differences from other people in this world because we are all born equal and provide the world a better future for us. ■

year, as the Student Government reported that plans for the replacement Guyito’s casing will be implemented and subsequently completed in two to three weeks’ time. Guyito is a hand-painted carabao statue that was given by The Philippine Inquirer to 20 selected schools across the nation last 2006 to mark the newspaper’s 20th anniversary. Over the years, due to certain disasters and activities of the school, Guyito’s casing that was made out of fiber glass has shattered and changed in color. The Student Government together with its adviser Ms. Laarni Gomez and Help Guyito Project Head Mr. Digno Salamat, had introduced the Help Guyito Project which aimed to raise funds for Guyito’s restoration. The project since then has raised about P20,000. In a recent interview, Student Government Mayor John Loyd de Troz said that he was glad that the restoration is finally taking place. “I’m really glad that despite the challenges that we’ve encountered for this project, we’ve reached our goal in restoring Guyito’s conditions. A few weeks from now we’ll see a fresh Guyito in it’s new casing,” de Troz stated. ■

The Qualifying Stage was a 3-hour written exam in which the highest 50 scorers from Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao, and NCR will advance to the Area Stage which was, again, a written exam; wherein the nationwide top 20 scorers will, finally, proceed to the National Stage done in both written and oral exams. Meanwhile, in the Search for the Outstanding Mathlete conducted on January 19, Patupat received the honors for being the Top Individual Scorer in the Written Exams and 2nd Runner Up in the overall contest. The Mathlete competition consists of two written elimination rounds in which the highest 15 scorers will qualify for the Amateur Round. Lastly, the scorers in the top 5 from the Amateur Round will advance to the Professional Round. The Mathematical Society of the Philippines and UPLB spearheaded the PMO and the Search for the Outstanding Mathlete 2015, respectively. Patupat had previously brought home medals from the Fryer contest held in Singapore, wherein his score was nearly perfect, and the Korea International Mathematics Competition held in Daejeon, South Korea in which he won gold. ■

Admin: HRC ‘ready to go beyond’ for Senior High HOLY Rosary College will be definitely ready for the first batch of K to 12 Senior High School students. This is what School Administrator Myla Pauline Pecson stressed during her speech and subsequent answers to questions in the recent Senior High School Forum held February 28 at the HRC Audio Visual Room. She explained throughout the forum that HRC shall implement its program according to specifications that the Department of Education (DepEd) set forth. At the same time, however, she stressed that the school is set to deliver beyond what is required or expected. “Rest assured, Holy Rosary will go beyond and implement things that we feel the students will need,” said Pecson. The HRC school administration organized the said forum, which had Grade 9 students and their parents as participants, in order to serve as an information session as regards what particular tracks and subjects the school shall offer for Grades 11 and 12. In a presentation during the forum led by Science and Math Department Coordinator Mr. Digno Salamat, he shared the four tracks (or strands) that HRC will be offering: STEM, ABM, HSS, and GAS, which Ms. Pecson identified as suitable tracks to take for students who are planning on continuing with college but at the same time, equally suitable for students who will be looking for work already upon graduating from

and able to put up a new building to accommodate any need for additional classrooms. “Our new building was really designed for Senior High School, but depending on the number of enrollees, ready naman kami na magpatayo ng additional building,” Pecson said. ■

His Holiness, POPE FRANCIS By Aaron Gabriel Garcia WHO is Pope Francis? Pope Francis was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His birth name was Jorge Mario Bergolio and his nationality is Argentine with Vatican citizenship. Before he became a priest, Bergolio worked hard as a chemical technician and a night club bouncer. He was ordained a Catholic priest in 1969 and was Argentina’s Provincial Superior of the Society of Jesus from 1973 to 1979. He became Archbishop in Buenos Aires in 1998, and became a Cardinal in 2001.
His papacy began on March 13, 2013 and was the first Jesuit pope. A papal conclave elected Bergolio as successor to Benedict XVI. He is both a Bishop of Rome and the sovereign of the Vatican City state. His papal name is from Saint Francis of Assisi. Many sources indicate that Pope Francis has humility and concern for the poor. He is also known for having a simpler, less formal approach to the papacy. He visited the Philippines in January, particularly in Manila, and areas in Leyte which were affected by Typhoon Yolanda last year. ■

Its motto is “To help girls and young women realize the ideals of womanhood and prepare themselves for their responsibilities in the home, and to the nation, and the world community”. In 1995 the organization lost nearly half of its member; the membership shrunk from 1,275,113 in 1995 to 671, 267 in 2003. In reaction to this, the BSP opened the Senior Scouts for girls in summer 2006 which seems to have contributed in the membership increases reported recently.
The GSP’s program focuses on “well-being, family life, heritage and citizenship, world community, preparedness, economic, selfsufficiency, arts and environment. The association is divided into five section according to their age. One of these is the Twinkler scout – ages 4 to 6, second is the Star scout –ages 6 to 9, third is the junior Girl Scout – ages 9 to 12, fourth is the Senior girl scout – ages 12 to 15, and the last is the Cadet girl scout -ages 15 to 21. This school year, the Girl Scouts in the HRC are busy with a number of activities. Last November 15, 2014, they have done a general cleaning of the whole school wherein they help the janitors maintain a clean surrounding. Meanwhile, from February 26 to 27, the girl scouts participated in the annual Encampment activity of course with their boy scout counterparts.■ BSP-GSP Encampment at HRC from February 26 to 27 Photos courtesy of Ms. Ronald Albaytar
