(NFS), a subsidiary of B&W, operates a uranium fuel materials production facility to support America's fleet of nuclear-powered submarines and aircraft carriers. Located in Erwin, Tennessee, it also converts Cold War-era government stockpiles of highly enriched uranium into material suitable for further processing into commercial nuclear reactor fuel. Summary Description: The Manufacturing Operations Section Manager is responsible for the safe and compliant execution of the Fuel Manufacturing Facility (FMF) and Uranium Down blending Operations; Ensuring all operations under his/her guidance are performed in accordance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) safety and license conditions, reflect strong conduct of operations principles and maintain product quality and safety-related configuration management requirements. This is executed primarily by leadership and oversight of those direct reports which review, approve, implement and assess procedures and activities that incorporate safety and quality controls and limits commensurate with the particular operation involved. Additionally, he/she is responsible for the coordination required to formulate and publish safe and effective operating schedules that meet or exceed the requirements set forth by the Program Management Department. Major Duties and Responsibilities: This position reports to the Operations Director and oversees up to 30 salaried and 115 hourly personnel. l. Safely manage FMF and Down blending production activities per SNM-124 license requirements involving the handling and processing of special nuclear material, including developing operating procedures and maintaining facilities and equipment in a safe operating condition. This includes, but is not limited to activities associated with product research and development, process engineering, enriched uranium processing and related equipment installation, start-up and maintenance. 2. Manage the majority of the hourly work force and line management supervision, promoting and upholding sound conduct of operations principles. Ensure implementation of safety programs and systems for reliable facility operations. 3. Coordinate with the Program Management organization to develop realistic production schedules and activities which account for safety, quality, personnel availability, union contract requirements, equipment reliability and maintenance requirements. Approve and execute production plans on schedule and within budget. 4. Review and submit Fuel Production budget and costing information as required by Program Management and Finance and Accounting departments. 5. Assist personnel in problem solving, setting priorities and resolving conflicts. Work with personnel to identify, develop and implement actions to improve performance and reduce costs. 6. Coordinate with the Assurance Department to coordinate, lead, track and evaluate all assessment and metric activity for the Manufacturing Operations Section 7. Execute other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Operations Director Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter.
