The "Progress Minnesota" is an acknowledgement of the individuals, companies and associations that are driving business, industrial growth and development in the Twin Cities and the State of Minnesota. The “Progress Minnesota” Award is now in its third year in collaboration with Finance & Commerce and has been working with dozens of chambers, economic development officials and government agencies involved with job creation and development throughout the state on this awards program. “MG McGrath is honored to be a Recipient of Finance & Commerce’s “Progress Minnesota” Award. Driving business, industrial growth and development in the Twin Cities and the State of Minnesota is a significant aspect of the MG McGrath’s continued success. This would not have been possible without the dedication and diligence of our team members as well as our relationships with our industry partners,” said Mike P McGrath, President of MG McGrath.

Point Person: McGrath Team Tackles Vikings Stadium Exterior Envelope MG McGrath is in the business of architectural sheet metal. The production areas at McGrath are about to get a lot busier in October. Production will begin on the company’s $27 million contract to construct and install the exterior envelope of the new Minnesota Vikings stadium in downtown Minneapolis. “It’s a huge project with an incredible schedule,” said McGrath, 33. “It’s the biggest construction project the state has ever had. The sheer size of it is hard to comprehend, especially for us on the construction team. There will be some ‘aha’ moments when we realize the scale.” Key to making the project work smoothly will be the “trade flow” of people working on the project. Subcontractors have to make progress on time as the stadium rises so employees don’t wait. “You don’t want crews to sit and have to wait three hours,” he said. “The efficiency and dollar signs are going quickly when that happens — the meter is spinning.” McGrath will be installing two parts to the exterior — metal pieces on one section and 10-by-17-foot frames on another that include an air and water vapor, insulation and other materials. These frames, numbering 4,400, will be prefabricated — or “unitized” — in the AMG plant next door at a rate of 16 a day starting in October. The same number, 16, will be installed every day on the stadium. “The reason the project needs to be unitized is there is no other way to make the schedule,” he said.
