Starbucks and Chick-Fil-A to join campus commerce Tim Llewellyn News Editor What are the chances that Henderson students will be able to eat at Chick-fil-A and Starbucks next fall? “Right now, 99 percent sure,” Bobby Jones, vice president of finance administration, said. The faculty is proud to say they are deciding to cut ties with Quizno’s and implement a new Chick-fil-A and Starbucks in return. “We are very excited about both of these companies coming on campus,” Jones said. “The faculty just wanted a new brand name. Quizno’s has just run its course. The quality of the food was not the issue, it was the cost of the food.” Students agree that the pricing of Quiznos’ food was a bit ridiculous, especially with a college budget. Some would argue that the taste of the food was not too great either. “It was overpriced, for terrible food,” Lawson Schulz, sophomore pre-med biology major, said. “I loved Quizno’s, but in order to get full I had to pay for a meal that’s near ten dollars, which kept me from going there more,” Ben Chandler, graduate assistant in academic advising, said.

Administration plans to take immediate action on applying the two companies. The timetable of arrival might be sooner rather than later. “We are looking probably for the fall of this year, because we’ll have our new dining facility,” Jones said. “We’ll be finished probably at the end of May.” The coffee lovers out there are in luck. The setup for the incoming Starbucks has a new designing approach to it with a vast selection. The new Chick-fil-A has the makings to be a convenient food source for students who have a busy class schedule on a given day. “Starbucks is going to be a kiosk, but it’s going to be a large kiosk,” Jones said. “They’re going to serve breakfast foods, sandwiches and things like that, and it’s going to be kind of where Quizno’s is now. It will probably be in the Sun Room for tables and chairs, and there will be some outside seating.” Jones is still working out the details of how the system at Chick-fil-A will operate. “It’s going to have a longer serving line, about 21 feet,” Jones said. “I think it’s the length of that. We are still trying to decide if it’s going to have self-serve, or people behind the counter taking your money. Making sure that we have, where you don’t have to wait, and all you want is a salad, that you’re going to have two different places you can go for that. Because a lot of times you’re going to want it now, and if you’re in line and all you want is a salad, well, you would have

In addition to a Chick-Fil-A replacing Quizno’s, a large Starbucks kiosk will be seen on campus in the future. to wait until everybody gets served and you get your salad.” Rumors have been flying around campus about a potential Subway being placed in the Reddie Café area, but those speculations came to a halt. “At one time we were talking about Subway, but we don’t think we have enough room with Chick-fil-A and Starbucks in there,” Jones said. “We’re looking at Aramark to serve some type of Subway-type sandwich with the prices. Aramark is our food services provider.
They’re the ones that run our dining facilities for us and it comes up with meal plans.” Many changes are coming to the Garrison Center in the near future, and only positive vibes are surfacing through the air. “It looks like a dungeon right now,” Jones said. “We’re going to clean it up. It’s going to have a ‘wow effect,’ if you will. And later on down the line, I’ve got plans on making the old Day Gym into a banquet hall with a beautiful art ceiling and nice tables, chairs, carpet and air.
So again, it all costs money, and we’re looking at funding sources on this, so that’s where we’re at right now.” The process of refinement is speeding up rapidly, so now students can sit back and visualize what type of meal or tasty beverage to acquire from the two incoming restaurants. “Chick-fil-A and Starbucks are going to happen,” Jones said. “Because there’s going to be some investments made by Aramark on that, and that’s going to happen.”
Student gets the boot for excessive parking tickets Zac Zdanowicz Staff Writer

To deal with more and more students not paying fines and taking parking tickets seriously, campus police have been booting cars. Many students are getting parking tickets and forgetting to pay them, taking them lightly or just disregarding them in all. The boot was bought by campus police last year, mainly to use around the Recreation Center, Foster and Womack, but will be used in other places where necessary. “We’re using the boot to deter people from parking where they are not supposed to be repeatedly,” Johnny Campbell, Chief of Police, said. The boot can also be used if there is not a ticket necessary, if you are blocking a driveway or an entrance like the Caddo or various other places where your car can be blocking any throughway to traffic. Students such as Ben Matthews, a senior business management major, do not like the

FUSS IN BOOTS
A student accumulated parking tickets that resulted in his car being fitted with a boot. The device is designed to keep those who recieve tickets from fleeing and avoiding payment. One student decided to put on a spare and drive off, leaving the boot behind. idea at all. “I think that’s a little excessive,” Matthews said. “From my understanding, you have to pay your tickets to get your grades and to register for classes, which sounds like enough of an incentive for me.”
If a student ever does get a boot on their car, the owner should call campus police to take care of fees. There is no fee for the booting, at least for now, but in the future there may be. Parking tickets are not being
taken lightly anymore by campus police. In one instance already a student that had a boot on their car removed it. The student removed the boot from their car not knowing of the consequences and put a spare tire on
and drove away. In any instance a student does this, they could be arrested, and their vehicle could be impounded as well. The student will also be cited for theft of property. If the boot is removed, the student will have to pay a towing fee and the citation for theft on top of the fine they have already been cited for. If the student is arrested, they will have court fees to pay for as well. “It just sounds like they are using more money to rectify a problem that isn’t as big as they are making it to be,” Adam Ussery, senior general studies major, said. “I think there needs to be more parking around the Rec, and East and West.” Whether the solution to the parking problem is liked or not, students are going to have to deal with it until there is more parking made available to students. A house was recently demolished to accomodate the growing need for parking and the increase in tickets.
