ABOUT US

MISSION

Holy Trinity School (HTS) is committed to educational excellence, as measured by readiness for university entrance, and the development of the character and individual abilities of our students within the context of Christian values and personal integrity.

VISION

A world-class learning environment, HTS offers a personalized experience through which students become confident and agile thinkers, able to operate independently and collaboratively in all settings.

OUR COMMITMENT TO INCLUSION

At HTS, we value respect, compassion and dignity — the underpinnings of our Christian beliefs – in everything that we do. With these values, we develop knowledge, skills and empathy for others in our students. HTS welcomes every person without discrimination regardless of race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, marital status, family status or disability.

HTS is committed to ensuring that the key principles of equity, fairness and inclusion are integrated into all of our policies, programs, operations and practices. We also ensure that the personal integrity, safety and well-being of all our community members are respected. The inclusive environment at HTS allows our students to develop diverse perspectives that enable them to thrive in our school community and as global citizens.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

At HTS, we have a responsibility to honour and respectfully acknowledge that we are gathered on the ancestral lands and waters of all Indigenous Peoples who have left their footprints here before us.

HTS is located on the traditional lands and territory of the Chippewas of Beausoleil, Georgina Island and Rama, as well as the Mississaugas of Alderville, Curve Lake, Hiawatha and Scugog Island, and many others who have cared for the land thousands of years before them. We recognize the Chippewas of Georgina Island as our closest neighbouring First Nation.

We are committed to ongoing learning and we strive to move forward with good hearts and minds and are committed to doing so with gratitude and respect for the past, present and future caretakers of this land.

ORGANIZATIONAL

Dignity is at the heart of inclusion and respect.

Learning is a journey, not a destination.

Character is the essence of our humanity.

Excellence is the pursuit and realization of one’s personal best.

Innovation is a mindset of possibilities fuelled by curiosity.

VALUES

WELCOME FROM THE BOARD CHAIR

Welcome HTS Families,

For more than 40 years, HTS has been focused on a singular pursuit — to feed the curiosity of our children as they reach towards the future.

Our collective experience teaches us that children will gain the most from our school by participating in all that HTS has to offer, including a rich student life program that is available to them in varied forms.

On behalf of the entire Board of Governors, for both our returning and new students and their entire families, it is my privilege to welcome you to our school. Whether this is your child’s first year at HTS or their final one, every moment at HTS will be filled with opportunities.

I am confident that our staff will provide your children with an innovative, challenging and exciting learning environment. While high academic standards are the foundation of the HTS experience, we take pride in the development of students who are compassionate, confident and well-rounded; students who are ever curious and continue to learn and grow.

We wish you a wonderful year! You are part of a community that cares deeply about one another and is committed to student well-being, inclusion, academic excellence and innovation.

Best wishes,

Joseph Adamo (he/him) Chair, Board of Governors

WELCOME FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

Dear HTS Community,

It is my hope that you are having a wonderful summer and that your family is sharing many memorable moments. I look forward to welcoming you to campus in September.

Our students are at the heart of all that we do! At HTS, receiving a worldclass education is just the beginning. HTS is a community where students learn how to learn, so that they can thrive in a rapidly evolving world.

HTS is a community that honours self-discovery, a community that helps individuals grow as a whole — intellectually, socially, emotionally, physically and spiritually — and a community that inspires every person to be the best version of themselves. When students know and feel that they belong and are valued, they flourish and have the confidence to pursue their dreams.

In our recent CAIS accreditation, it was noted, “Through [HTS’s] focus on its bespoke Vision for Learning , the school has put structure and vision to teaching and learning in a manner few schools have imagined. Relationships and the building of individual character are evidently a priority, evidenced in some quite lovely examples of relational commitment.” This is a true testament to the innovative, future-focused academic program that students experience in their time at HTS.

Students, I hope that you are ready to get involved and truly immerse yourselves in all that HTS has to offer. Dedication to academics is important, and that is only part of the HTS experience. Engaging in our student life program inspires our students to participate in areas they are passionate about — it is where they make unforgettable memories. The opportunities are endless. Students are encouraged to step outside of their comfort zone — travel, try a new club or sport, or even meet new people in their grade and across the school. Parents, we invite you to attend community events, come out and cheer on our teams, and attend performances and evening sessions where our students and staff share their work and talents.

As our community prepares to come together again, let’s meet the year ahead with kindness, joy and curiosity. I am always deeply excited for the start of a new school year, as another opportunity to grow, learn and celebrate together. To be together is a gift; let kindness and care for each other be our guiding light.

Yours in leadership and learning,

OUR VISION FOR LEARNING

We believe that the purpose of education is to prepare students for life. In order to thrive, students will need to be lifelong learners who are confident in leveraging their skills and knowledge as they navigate whatever lies ahead. Our vision recognizes and honours the uniqueness and dignity of all learners. As a leading educational institution, our goal is to inspire our students to be driven in their pursuits, make an impact in their communities (professional and personal) and be nimble as they approach a complex and rapidly evolving world.

6 Printed July 2023.

THE HTS EXPERIENCE

We believe in a learner-centred approach to learning. The HTS student experience consists of both academic and student life experiences. We encourage and support all of our learners to try new things throughout their time at the school.

Our fundamental approach to education acknowledges the connections made when achieving skills and competencies, along with developing character and values as a foundation of lifelong learning. These are cultivated both inside and outside of the classroom.

7

EQUITY AND INCLUSION AT HTS

HTS, where every learner is seen, heard and empowered to make an impact in their communities and the world.

In order for students, families and our staff to thrive, they need to feel that they belong in our community. Inclusion is at the heart of our students’ well-being and academic success. HTS’s mission is to enable each and every student to learn effectively, and to improve learning outcomes for all, regardless of race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, marital status, family status or disability. The School upholds the principles of respect for human rights enshrined in the Ontario Human Rights Code. We do this intentionally while knowing that, collectively, there is still work to do in order to make our community the most welcoming and safe place for all students, staff, families, volunteers and guests visiting our campus.

We recognize that equity of opportunity and equity of access to the full range of programs, delivery of services and resources are critical to the achievement of successful educational and social outcomes.

HTS strives to provide an education that equips students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to live in an increasingly diverse world. This involves a commitment to inclusive education, and identifying and eliminating discriminatory biases and systemic barriers, whether overt or subtle, intentional or unintentional that may limit students’ learning, growth and contribution to society. Allyship, learning and unlearning is an ongoing journey — we only make progress through consistent and continual efforts across our school and communities. It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure that HTS is a safe and inclusive learning environment so that all students thrive.

Our students are leading the way. With many councils, clubs and learning groups, we are proud of our students and staff for forging an incredible path to make HTS a better school. The Corridors article, Educating Humanity by Fostering Diversity and Inclusion by Joy Idami ’21, Deborah Ojo ’22, Richard Rubin ’21 and Oscar Song ’21, provides many great examples of actions currently being taken and future implementations. Read the article online at bit.ly/htsdiversity.

INCLUSIVE CURRICULUM AND ASSESSMENT PRACTICES

Curriculum is defined as the total learning environment, including the physical environment, learning materials, pedagogical practices, assessment instruments and student life program. At HTS, students must feel engaged in and empowered by what they learn, supported by teachers and welcomed in their learning environment. This is achieved through effective instructional strategies, and inclusive curriculum and assessment practices that reflect the diverse needs of all students and their learning pathways.

Students will be provided with authentic and relevant opportunities to learn about diverse histories, cultures and perspectives. Students should see themselves represented in the curriculum, programs and culture of HTS. We will draw upon teaching strategies that have been proven to support student success, including reviewing resources, instruction, and assessment and evaluation practices to identify and eliminate stereotypes, discriminatory biases and systemic barriers. Providing opportunities for formative assessment (assessment for learning) is an essential component of an inclusive curriculum, as is differentiated instruction and students being provided multiple and varied opportunities to demonstrate their learning. Effective evaluation includes researched practices that are triangulated, improve students’ learning and reflect the most recent and most consistent level of achievement.

PARTNERS IN OUR LEARNER-CENTRED COMMUNITY

At HTS, everyone plays a key role in developing our students and living our organizational values. As an organization, here are the ways we ensure everyone is doing their part to create a vibrant, caring and dedicated learning community.

SCHOOL LEADER

AS VISIONARY AND MENTOR:

Leaders inspire, model, create opportunities, elevate, mentor and celebrate the achievements of staff and students. School leaders live the school’s mission, vision and values by building a school culture that is collaborative, agile, collegial and futureforward. School leaders work to build an organizational culture that is joyful, inspiring, supportive and innovative.

STUDENT

AS DESIGNER AND CO-CREATOR:

Students play a key role as agents in their learning. They are co-creators and designers of their learning experiences and pathways. They know their strengths, passions and interests.

Additionally, students are able to identify the areas they need to grow in order to become their best selves and achieve the goals they set out for themselves.

EDUCATORS

AS ARCHITECT AND LEAD LEARNER:

Educators are caring, intelligent, flexible and dedicated professionals who design learning experiences that are relevant and meaningful for their learners. They are dedicated to professional renewal and knowing their students — striving for excellence. They create an inspiring learning environment that is engaging, rigorous, supportive and inclusive.

PARENT

AS COLLABORATOR AND PARTNER:

Parents are models of lifelong learning. Parents are collaborators and partners in their child’s learning journey; they help build their child’s confidence and independence, just as students build their self-awareness and agency.

Parents, educators and students work together to ensure that each student achieves their goals and is empowered to define their own pathways.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

PARENT AND STUDENT HANDBOOK

The 2023-2024 Parent and Student Handbook provides information, policies and procedures which guide us as a community. A digital copy of the 2023-2024 Handbook is available in OneLogin at the start of the school year. Please ensure that you read the 2023-2024 Handbook as it contains important details, policies and expectations for all of our community members.

PARKING LOT SAFETY

In the mornings and afternoons, there is a great deal of traffic on campus. Please exercise extreme caution when driving on the school grounds and follow the instructions given by our staff; their primary purpose is to keep our students, staff and parents safe. Watch for other drivers, watch for families crossing the road and be mindful of your speed. Drivers should note that traffic flows in one direction and no U-turns are permitted.

Parking spaces are limited. Parents may drop off students on the right side of the main driveway. During morning drop-off, parents must park in a parking spot if they would like to walk their child to their entrance. Pulling up to the curbside is only intended for quickly letting your child out of the car.

Only authorized vehicles with a valid government-issued permit that is visible on the dashboard can park in the accessibility parking spaces. Please be courteous and do not occupy, sit idle or block any spots designated for people who require accessibility to and from our campus entrances. Vehicles found illegally parked in these spots will be tagged and/or towed at the owner’s expense.

STUDENT LIFE PROGRAM

The extensive student life program is embedded into the life of the school and offers a variety of opportunities for students in each division. Students are expected to participate fully in school life. Breakaway trips, team sports, field trips, musical and theatrical productions, student clubs, leadership opportunities and community service programs provide mindbroadening, skill-building and horizon-expanding experiences. By venturing out of their comfort zone, our students learn to adapt to different situations, rise to new challenges, take on new responsibilities and discover new passions — skills that will serve them well beyond HTS. Visit hts.on.ca/student-life for more information on our student life program.

Families can find the weekly student life program schedule in the email newsletter, SpotligHTS; The HTS News This schedule provides start and end times, and locations of the upcoming week’s activities. For sports teams competing off-campus, the bus departure and arrival times are also listed.

If you have any questions about our Student Life Program, please contact the Dean of Students, Ms Melanie van de Water , at mvandewater@hts.on.ca.

STUDENT SUCCESS CENTRE

STUDENT SUCCESS COUNSELLORS

The goal of Student Success Counsellors is to foster the intellectual, emotional, social, physical, spiritual and career development of all students. Student Success counsellors design and deliver effective curriculum, programs and services so that our students may utilize the tools that will enable them to identify their abilities and interests, and strengthen their decision-making and coping skills. This in turn helps students to develop an approach to life that will enhance their success into their post-secondary years and to be responsible and productive citizens.

Our personalized guidance program introduces and guides each student in researching post-secondary programs, volunteer opportunities, academic counselling, course selection and much more.

If you have any questions about our Student Success Counsellors, please feel free to contact Ms Tracy Howard , Director of Student Success and Post-Secondary Counselling, at thoward@hts.on.ca.

STUDENT SUCCESS COACHES

The goal of Student Success Coaches is to help every child reach their full academic potential. Just as the term “coach” implies, these incredible educators work alongside our students and families to provide extra support. They work with students to build their capacity as a learner in a scaffolded and personalized manner so that the student is also gaining confidence and independence. Access to this resource ensures that students have support beyond the classroom.

Student Success Coaches work directly with Kindergarten to Grade 12 students, families and teachers to ensure that the best strategies are in place for each student to succeed. From supporting literacy work to post-secondary transitions, and everything in between, the Student Success Coaches take a personalized approach with all that they do.

TECHNOLOGY AND OUR PROGRAM

HTS students have multiple pathways that are embedded into our program to maximize learning and student empowerment. These learning pathways ensure that every student has experiences that are unique to HTS; the use of technology enables and enriches this. Technology also fosters a creative, global and connected classroom. HTS is committed to developing innovative environments for our students to grow and develop in all the digital competencies they will need to thrive, while maintaining a positive and ethical digital identity.

GETTING YOUR TECHNOLOGY READY FOR THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR

Parents are encouraged to visit the HTS Parent Technology Readiness website, bit.ly/htstechnology , to help support their children in getting their devices ready for September. Here, you will find a step-by-step guide to follow including information on:

• Required devices by Division and grade

• Guidelines for setting up your device for September

• Routines and expectations

• How to take care of your device

• Organizing and decluttering your device

• Retrieving access to your account if you are locked out

• Resources of how to support your child’s use of technology

NEW FAMILIES — BOOK YOUR MEETING

All families new to HTS are required to book a time to meet with our team to help them get started and answer any questions they might have. Both parents and students will receive their login information in late August via email from our IT Team. Please visit the HTS Parent Technology Readiness website, bit.ly/htstechnology , to book a time if you haven’t taken this step already.

REQUIRED PASSWORD UPDATE IN ONELOGIN AND CHANGED EDVANCE ACCESS

Starting in late August, all parents and students in Grades 6 to 12 will be forced to update their password in OneLogin. The login for Edvance will also now only be available through OneLogin (whereas before you could access Edvance independently). This is particularly important for those who are using mobile devices to access Edvance as the OneLogin portal app is now essential. These changes are taking place so that we are better able to protect your data.

TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT ALL YEAR ROUND

Visit our Help Desk website, bit.ly/htshelpdesk , for a variety of ways to get the support you need.

BUILDING COMMUNITY

As a not-for-profit registered charity, HTS is deeply grateful for the unwavering support and generosity of our community. It is through your incredible dedication that we are able to provide an exceptional learning experience for all students, both today and in the future. The legacy of countless generations of families who have wholeheartedly invested in the growth of our school, year after year, through our annual fund, campaigns and by volunteering their time and expertise benefits each and every HTS student.

The very essence of our community is built upon the foundation of volunteering. Our students actively engage in meaningful community service, while our alumni are making a profound impact across the globe. Moreover, our parents serve as inspiring models of community-to-community building right here at HTS. The amount of time and dedication our parents devote to supporting and nurturing our community is truly humbling. We extend the same encouragement to our families as we do to our students, urging them to actively participate in the vibrant fabric of our school community.

Our heartfelt gratitude to our remarkable community of students, families, alumni, staff and friends. Your selfless contributions of time, unwavering commitment and financial support ensure that HTS remains an innovative and inspiring place for every learner. It is with gratitude that we acknowledge your invaluable role in shaping our community, and we are privileged to have you as part of the HTS community.

THANK YOU!

PARENT ASSOCIATION

Greetings from the Parent Association (PA) Executive here at HTS!

After an incredible comeback year, we can’t wait to build on the successes we shared with our parents and caregivers which brought us all back together in community. Having joined the Parent Association Executive as a newcomer to the school in 2021, I can attest to the positive impact it has had on my family’s experience thus far. What a welcoming and hard working group we have; forging friendships and strong ties with our HTS community along the way.

I encourage all of our families to engage in our PA events and initiatives this coming year in whatever way they can. This could be through attending events, volunteering at the school or by signing up to be a PA Champion. Our PA Champions are integral members of our school community who we provide with volunteer opportunities around our campus throughout the year. This program will re-launch on Monday, August 28, through Better Impact.

This year, we’re looking forward to bringing back some of our most successful events, including the Grade Gatherings and our Christmas Reception. Some of the new events we’re hoping to launch include an evening cocktail reception for parents in the fall and a family event in the winter. We’ll also be piloting a pre-loved uniform swap which will provide an eco-conscious option to recycle old uniform items.

We will also re-launch our Grade Group Chats. This pilot program was a great success last school year and we can’t wait to re-engage with everyone to keep you on top of important dates, school events and initiatives, volunteer opportunities and of course to stay in touch with fellow parents. New QR codes for each grade will be available beginning Monday, August 28, on the Parent Association webpage available through OneLogin.

I can’t wait to get the 2023-2024 school year started, and to meet some more of our incredible HTS families! I wish you all a wonderful rest of your summer and look forward to welcoming you back this fall.

Sincerely,

COMMUNICATIONS HTS @

Effective communication is a crucial part of the mutually supportive relationship between school, parent and student. Below is a summary of the formal and informal opportunities for open and regular communication.

CONTACT WITH STAFF

The best way to contact staff is by email. All staff are expected to respond to emails and voicemails within a 24-hour period during the school week and within our school hours. Respecting the professional boundaries between work and home is an important part of our commitment to our staff’s well-being. Faculty will communicate their availability with students in order to best support them.

STUDENT PROGRESS MEETINGS

Student progress meetings are opportunities for parents and students to have conversations with teachers about academic progress and learning goals. Student progress meetings take place twice a year. However, parents can reach out to their child’s teachers at any time by email.

DIGITAL RESOURCES ACCESS

Parents are provided with a customized dashboard that provides access to resources such as our student life program information, library resources, our student information system, Edvance and much more.

Computer access is available through holytrinityschool.onelogin.com which works best with Google Chrome. When you use the site, you will be prompted to download an extension.

Mobile access is available through the OneLogin Portal app which can be downloaded from the following links:

EDVANCE

Apple Store: apps.apple.com/ca/app/onelogin-portal/id1501343911

Google Play: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.onelogin.portal&hl=en

Once you have downloaded the app, use the domain holytrinityschool. It is recommended that parents add the OneLogin Portal app to their mobile devices and bookmark it on their computer(s) as soon as they are issued a username and password.

Edvance is part of the HTS Student Information System that provides a window into key academic aspects of a student’s life at HTS. Parents and students in Grades 6 to 12 can access grades and get information on courses, daily course schedules, report cards and individual exam schedules. You can access Edvance through OneLogin.
