Following Gods yellow brick road. Following your path All of us have a path God makes for us. A yellow brick road as I like to call them.:) None of them are the same. Your path may lead you to something big such as the mission’s field, or it may lead you to the girl next door. No matter where your path is leading you to, we are all called to follow them. Though its not always easy. The enemy throws rocks and blows down trees to block us from are callings because he knows if we fulfill them…something great will happen. It’s our choice to find a way over those forks in the road…or to turn back. The easiest answer would be to turn around and forget you even decided to leave your comfortable couch. Maybe throw in some popcorn and pizza and your set! God surly doesn’t need you right?...WRONG! God needs every single one of us to stand up! Put on our armor and get back that out there!
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” (Ephesians 6:10-18) Will we fail 10
sometimes? Yes because we are human. That doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t keep trying though. The people who really have made a difference in the world didn’t give up when things got hard. They kept going because that’s what’s right. Take Stephen Curry for instance. He is a newly famous basketball player that gives full credit to God. One of his famous moves after he makes an impossible shot is his index finger pointing upwards. He is saying that “That was for God.” In a recent interview he talks about his faith and tells his audience that the reason why he is here is all because of God. He is just one example of someone who followed the yellow brick road God had given him. There are many other people who have gotten up and followed Gods path. Will you? You may be saying to yourself “Im to young.” I totally disagree. I think BECAUSE you are young, you will make the most impact. “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12 How many young people do you see changing the world for God? Following the path he gives them? I bet its not many. Most of them are at the time in their lives where they are being tempted by things of this world more…and sadly many give in. Maybe that’s your path. Maybe you’re supposed to go to those people and show them who God his. What Jesus did for them. Different paths
Now, as I said earlier not everyone has the same path. We are called to do specific things from the Lord. You may not be called to build an orphanage from the ground up, but your friend just might be. It is important to listen to what God is calling you to. If he is calling you to the youth but you think you should work as a missionary and you go for that instead of what God has planned for you…then that’s not good either. If you have ever been camping or to a summer camp of some sorts where there is a lot of trees around, your parents or some other authority will tell you not to stray from the path because of poison oak, other dangerous creatures, and the possibility of you becoming lost. They created that specific path for you so you can get to your destination safely. If you wander off that because you want to go see what is over those bushes you would put yourself in danger and farther away from the one overseeing and protecting you. I remember when I was in elementary school…about fourth grade. I was at kids camp for my church, and my cabin went up to take a hike. We were all together climbing up the path when I saw a cool part of the woods that looked like the bridge to Terabithia would be on the other side. (Sadly it wasn’t there.) My leader had told me not to stray from the path but I did anyway. (Stupid me. It was a huge mistake.) I quickly ran over there to check it but was disappointed because it wasn’t what I had expected. So I turned around to go back when I found that I was all alone. My cabin and cabin leader had continued to climb the path when I had strayed and gotten lost. I suddenly felt panic. Where did they go?” “Why didn’t they wait for me?” I could feel the tears coming as I just stood there wondering what to do. I felt the fear bundle up in my stomach. I ran back to the path and started running up the hill to try to find my way again. That’s when I heard voices “Where did Kylie go?” “Im here!” I yelled. I remember my leader coming to give me a hug telling me not to stray again. We continued on that path when we eventually found a bunch of cool rocks and other things to bring back to the camp. My point is when I strayed from the path because I thought it was better for me over there I was disappointed. When I came back and followed that path that was created for me I found everything I was looking for. You can’t make your own God’s path is one of a kind. You can’t duplicate it or make a new one. Its either that or nothing. Many of us (including myself) have a tendency to think we can make our own paths and that we don’t really need Gods. Opportunity’s open up so you think “Great! I can do this!” then you find that path you created was a disappointment because it didn’t work out. Just like my Bridge to Terabithia.:p When we create our own paths they tend to crumble, or lead to nowhere. Whether we see that at the time or not. This is also where the enemy has a chance to tempt us and grab us where we are weak. We can make it worse for ourselves by letting him in, by creating a path not blessed by God we are opening ourselves up to a whole WORLD of hurt and unknown dangers. Let me break it to you, your path will never be as sturdy, safe, or promising as Gods. You are a human being, a sinner, and imperfect. God is perfect. His path will lead you to a great life if you only listen and by listening that also means following him. I have noticed people around me creating their own paths with everyday things. You feel like God is calling you to be with someone for the rest of your life, but you doubt and don’t really see where that would end. So create your own by starting a relationship with someone else. Or maybe you have a nice job opportunity opening up and you think this is it! Yet God has a different plan, a different path, you go for that job anyway get into a contract and are miserable for however long. Maybe even for the rest of your life! If you are going to take any of my advice from this article…please!...follow the path God has for you. I have seen to many friends, family and love ones suffer because they think they can make a better path then God. I am also guilty of that myself. I have caused a lot of hurt in my life by not listening to what God had to say. You know the saying “without trust we have nothing.” It is used frequently between couples and I think it is very true. I especially think it has to do with our relationship with God as well. Without trust we will get nowhere with him. Still sitting on our couches. I know it can be scary to follow Gods
yellow brick road, especially if you can’t see where it ends. It is so worth the journey though. Do you know what your path is? If so‌are you going to follow it? Or build your own?...
