W
e use Italian calfskin for the accessories in the
“Epsom” series, a material that is highly prized
by experts for its excellent quality. Tough but sup-
ple, calfskin leather is a material that lends itself to fine crafting. “Epsom” gets its typical structure using an embossing technique and is very hard-wearing. Combined with fine, smooth leather on the inside – a combination with an appealing visual effect. To join two pieces of leather they are generally overlapped and then machine-stitched. In comparison, the accessories in the “Graf von Faber Collection” are “butt-jointed” and hand stitched using special, strong thread. The greatest precision and skill are needed when using a thread of a contrasting colour. Every stitch shows up and each one must be perfect. Corrections are not possible for the needle hole would immediately be visible. The leather is tanned using an extremely gentle and environmentally friendly technique. One remarkable benefit of this leather is that it does not encourage tarnishing of silver. There are only a handful of tanneries that are able to produce leather of this kind.
