Community Officer – Thomas Bowden
I’m Tom, the Community Officer at Huddersfield Student’s Union. Students at the Heart of Hud is an amazing way to for students to collectively make a difference to our local Community, and to show local residents how brilliant Students are for Huddersfield. Volunteering is fun and here at the SU we want to make it as fun as we possibly can! If you have any questions, or just fancy a chat, make sure you pop up to the SU or email me at su.communities@hud.ac.uk. See you soon! Tom
What is Students at the Heart of Hud? Students at the Heart of Hud is an initiative run by Huddersfield Students’ Union that encourages students to take part in a one off event where they can gain volunteering experience in and around the Huddersfield area; through exciting and engaging volunteering opportunities. There are usually two large Students at the Heart of Hud events organised each academic year, one in term 1 and another in term 2, both of which can include up to 7 different local organisations and up to 100 students. If you have an opportunity that doesn’t fit into one of these events, don’t worry – we can organise a Mini Heart of Hud just for you! The large events that we organise typically run from 10am until 3pm, however this can be flexible to suit your organisation and opportunity.
How does it benefit your organisation? Students’ at the Heart of Hud offers your organisation the chance to have enthusiastic student volunteers for the day, to support your cause in a way that suits the organisation’s needs. Regardless of the task or the weather, students who volunteer will always do their best to help. Students’ at the Heart of Hud is a great way to showcase what volunteering for your organisation is really like, if students enjoy the day they may which to carrying on volunteering with you! There is no cost to your organisation, we’ll promote the opportunity, provide volunteers with a free t-shirt, breakfast and lunch and will fund the transport to and from your location.
What the SU provides: We’ve worked hard to make sure that there aren’t any barriers for students wanting to volunteer whilst at University, we’ve done this by providing the following: Marketing & promotion Each volunteering project will be promoted across all our media channels including student emails, Facebook, Twitter and on campus face to face promotion. Breakfast & Lunch Students are provided with free breakfast and lunch if they are volunteering for the full day, we want to make sure they have lots of energy ahead of a busy day! T-Shirt Students receive a free SU Volunteering branded t-shirt to wear during the event – they are bright pink so they stand out from the crowd. Transport We organise free transport to and from you organisation on the day.
What do you need to do next? 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
