about me Pedro Quintela is a photographer based in Portugal, whose professional life is divided between education, business and photography. He also writes about it in some blogs. All started about 7 years ago, as a balsam for the daily stress and to fill a need for personal achievement at an artistic level. Quite soon he realized that Photography was more than shooting a scene. There were far more behind a still than just a click. So, Pedro Quintela, started to search for as much information as possible on the technical side of it. Education is must have to understand how things are done properly. He believes that with a solid basis, the process will be much less invasive and creativity will flow easily because you’re not struggling how to get something on the frame. From then on he started to maximize his spare time to cover all the bases from this way of seeing life. Education, research, traveling, meeting other fellow shooters, all started to get sense on his mind and soul. The changing moment was in 2015 when he won one the very first contests made in 500px. The crew loved so much that humble image and the story behind it, that invited him to write for their blog. Another door of the Photography life was opening, since he also loves to write. Till then there were just scientific articles, though now he could start writing about photography related subjects as how to stay motivated, how to create a storytelling image, among many others. Some even were shared by Adobe. At the same time more contests were won, some images appeared on magazines and some exhibits on some places around the world show his humble images. He started to get some sponsors that helped him continuing his steps. Quintela’s work is generally done around landscape and storytelling. He created a personal workflow that try to give a personal look to his images. Currently he’s also dedicated some time to create digital content for the social media platforms. He loves to edit his images on Lightroom and Photoshop. It’s a special part of the creative process. 3

With time he realized that gear isn’t as important as some may think. Of course that it can help solving some tricky light situations. Currently his gear is a Canon Eos R, the “holly L trinity” 16-35, 24-70 and 70-200, plus a 14mm for astro, 50mm and 85mm for portraits. For editing there’s a iMac 5k paired with a Wacom tablet Pro. On the go it’s always the option of a ipad Pro, or even a iPhone 12 Pro Max, that could be really life saving when images are needed for a customer asap. Another important part of the process is scouting for locations. The web helps very much to understand how this places are and the best moments to visit it. Till the Pandemics he travel a bit around the world, mostly in Europe. That also helped meeting personally some of the friends that he made during time on social media. By getting that sort of info the preparation of the shooting becomes more easier, and the logistics will fulfill the proper needs withouth many issues that could happen when you’re on the field. So, much before pressing that shutter release, there’s a huge background work, trying to minimize the obvious inconveniences that photographing outside could bring. Therefore, the images are always captured with the intent of transmit a personal vision of the location, or story. When shooting it, he’s also thinking how they will be edited. It’s a cumulative process. Among the amazing locations and situations he lived, there’s once when the scene was so amazing that he almost lost his breath of what was happening in front of him. It was on 2016, at only 30m from home in a lake called Santa Águeda. The clouds, colors and reflections were so amazing that seemed to felt the presence of God, or Mother Nature.
