Louise Davies

‘Moments in Time’ “My work is about landscape and trying to capture the time of day, the seasons and my immediate response to my surroundings. The light, the atmosphere, it all changes in an instant. I find recording my first impressions in a sketchbook, invaluable for my studio work. The strong colour themes of Gaugin and Rothko influenced me when I first saw their work as a student at St Martins. At the same time my tutor Albert Herbert was an inspiring printmaker, his deep etching technique and his spontaneity of image making is an intuitive method which I practice to this day. Printmaking is an essential part of my practice and helps to inform my painting. I will often use the same colour palette and marks, sometimes from painting to print and sometimes from print to painting. ‘Moments in Time’ describes the way I work and the work itself. This body of work has been produced exclusively for this exhibition at Twenty Twenty Gallery.” Louise Davies. June 2021

Emily Stubbs “Drawing, painting and collage have always been the starting point for me. I translate the process of making marks, brushstrokes and textures onto the surface of clay slabs before building them into sculptural vessels. I see my pieces as a drawing or collage that you can walk around, see inside and pick up and hold.”
