I have always been close to my family and their health has always been important to me. Ever since I was a child and being told about my father’s mild heart attack has caused me to be curious about my family’s medical history. As I grew older, I realized that certain health conditions were prominent through out my extended family but there was never a place were this information could be retrieved.

OBJECTIVE

For the beginning phases of ideation, my main object was to go out and explore areas were information wasn’t being transfered properly through either institutions or from user. A wide range of ideas were explored, from water purification for third world countries to tackling the miss communication between graphic designers and non profit organizations. Although, some of the problems didn’t have much of an impact compared to others, the strongest idea dealt in the realm of the medical health care.

According to the 2012 American Heart Association there are 5,723 registered hospitals in the United States. 256.2 million — T he number of Americans who were medically insured in 2010. Every hospital in the United States needs the ability to let their members reach their network in a much easier manner. UV WATER

Many developing countries do not have drinkable tap water. When traveling, certain countries do not allow people to drink water out of the tap and creates an inconvenience to constantly purchase water-bottles to drink from. GRAPHIC DESIGN FOR NON-PROFITS

With a wide range of medical institutions throughout the United States, there is not an application that adapts these networks that can provide a f luid interaction between hospitals and patients. With different institutions it is difficult to maintain a commonality between different services that allow the patients/users to access different information with a universal interface.

How can I improve the interaction between patients and Doctors when patients are emitted into a hospital? With a large number of patients, it can be difficult for Doctors to keep track of patients between the shuffle of files, paper work, large facilities, and unpredictable emergencies. It would give them remote access to patient’s vitals while also updating med ic a l i nfor m at ion, e x a ms, l ab results and medicine intake; it would provide more time for more important needs.

How can I create a database that can collect medical histor y of patient’s current and ancestor’s information t hat can be constant ly accessible while allowing thorough health information when visiting the Doctor? The ability to obtain personal medica l infor mation has a lways been archived by medical professionals and has never been truly accessible to a patient. In a era where Doctors are overwhelmed with patient care and have little or no time to access years of medical profiles, it should allowed to be accessed.

Overall The brand is meant to break the difficulty of gathering and finding personal and family health information and allowing you to record your health, illnesses, diseases, along with the relationships among the members of your family. Knowing and understanding your family medical and health history is one of the strongest inf luences of knowing your risks of developing certain hereditary and genetic diseases. This health history can be extremely important when understanding how your health should be maintained while also warning you about potential risks that can affect your family’s well being. SWOT STRENGTHS

Knowing and understanding your family medical and health history is one of the strongest influences on knowing your risk of developing certain hereditary and genetic diseases. Allowing this content to be accessible and linked with your hospital network can allow easier communication between hospital and patients while giving them a healthier lifestyle. WEAKNESS

Certain family history is difficult to gather and collect, both because it is missing or unobtainable and not all medical and health information is easily accessed. If your parents are deceased or relatives are uncooperative, it may take some real detective work to learn more about your family’s medical past. OPPORTUNITIES

With information moving from the concrete to virtual, the future of gathering medical and health information could soon change. With the ability to send daily, weekly or monthly updates of health vitals, the information gathered can be processed and given to physicians to better understand patients health statuses. THREATS

There are the possibilities that gathering family health and medical information can cause certain issues if the hospitals refuse to release certain information. Certain hospitals can offer such a feature for already existing members but also use this platform to gather more family members to join their network for easier data access.

Educating yourself on this information should be accessible to anyone looking to live a healthier lifestyle. The ability to track and upload certain health information and have it collected to show your current and past health status is important in understanding where your health stands. Issues dealing with health are no laughing matter; any sort of damages to your well being can be dangerous and should be explained in a straight forward manner. Bringing a logical factor to the patient’s information allows them to understand their health issues in a much easier way. TRUST

Learning about how to improve your health might be difficult to interpret to some. Without someone guiding you, it is hard to say what you are learning applies to you or not. The Doctor’s knowledge helps us improve your ability to stay healthy, and we must trust in them to be 100% sure. This brand is meant to bring this information to a much easier way to these professionals, while bestowing trust between the Doctor and patient. FA M I LY

This group works directly with patients to help them understand the issues of illness and diseases, and is essential in diagnosing the general public properly with information they can gather from their patients. With their main priority to assist Doctors, this group of medical professionals will be in charge of inputting the patient’s medical information into the database. My Family Health Portrait is a web application that allows users to input their own personal and family health history and share content gathered. The user interface feels primitive and untrustworthy even though the Surgeon General sponsors it. In comparison to Kin Link it doesn’t seem to be accessible to physicians in an interactive manner and doesn’t communicate the data properly. There is also no integration for devices that can gather health measurements. I H E A LT H _ 0 2

Intended for building convenience for users by allowing mobile products and services that help them manage their personal health. It has a wide variety of products that can help manage and maintain users vitals. When placing it side by side with KinLink, their products are identical but the services of syncing the information with your medical history and your personal history is what sets them apart. Although the data is being received there isn’t any implementation that allows the user to retrieved there isn’t a professional educating the user on the information they are getting. PATIENT, MAYO CLINIC_03

The Mayo Clinic gives access to their patients to obtain their medical history, different lab results, and other unrelated features, but it doesn’t allow integration of a family health history and health tracking that Kin Link is meant to combine. Although the app is public, for anyone to download, you must be part of the Mayo Clinic.

Kinlink’s development allowed me to gain multiple understanding on how we as a culture work our health into our daily lives. From research, a huge a boost in health tracking apps and wearable technology has hit our culture in the past few years, but unfortunately for the users, much of the technology out there does seem to serve a purpose but just for entertainment. KinLink bridges a gap that not that many health tracking app seem to cross. With the integration of information between Doctors, patients and family, the amount of raw data that can be collected could allow users to see their health habits completely different. It will allow people to change their lifestyles all together. With technology advancing in such an alarming rate, we should be able to control or even understand our own health information. KinLink’s development allows the users to take their health into their own hands, and allows them to control their health lifestyle more efficiently to give them prolong life.
