Creating excellence by being bold and brave In the war to attract top talent, it’s always helpful to delve into the minds of industry frontrunners to identify the drivers of their innovative and bold HR practices. We are so fortunate to have a room full of such leading practitioners tonight at the HR Excellence Awards! In this fourth year of the HR Excellence Awards, the only regional awards programme in Asia, hosted across Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia, we have always endeavoured to celebrate excellence in outstanding human capital strategy and execution. What also makes this initiative so unique is that all entries are judged solely by respected HR directors in Asia. These are the experts who have spent a great deal of time poring over all entries that we received to orchestrate the arduous task of identifying teams and leaders who have achieved something truly remarkable. We are privileged that some of these eminent jury members are able to join us tonight. The event production team at Human Resources has worked long and hard in putting together this year’s edition of the awards

ceremony, and we thank you for investing your faith in us and for putting your entries to the test. Each year, we learn so much from you and your teams, in terms of what progressive and forwardthinking people practices truly look like, and we hope to provide you the platform to share your success. As you settle in tonight, please take the time to acknowledge everything that you and your team have experienced behind the scenes in putting forth your best practices – the managing of

campaign into reality. We congratulate you on the achievement, and wish you all the best for tonight!

HR EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2016

A note from The Human Resources Development Fund Human resource development (HRD) is imperative to ensure organisational effectiveness and achieve global competitiveness. For organisations to remain relevant and sustainable as business entities, leaders must recognise the need to invest in their people as the most valuable asset of their business, across sectors. Leaders must achieve the right mix of people with the right skill sets, and who are also aligned to their organisation’s goals and strategic management plans for improved efficiencies and

productivity. An outside-in orientation to understanding global HRD standards and practices is extremely crucial to not only nurture the inherent talent of organisations, but to also build the pool of resources for business continuity as well as growth. The role of HR continues to evolve to meet the challenging demands of the new economic order, against the backdrop of the ASEAN Economic Community and Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement. The integrated economies (in the region) will call for HRD strategies that will best equip the markets and organisations with high-skilled talent, especially in the new emerging sectors. HRDF recognises the current trends, and hence, remains committed to its mandate (entrusted by the Malaysian Government) of expanding its role as well as opportunities to build the nation’s human capital resources. Our greater objective is to support the aspiration of the country to emerge as the next knowledge-intensive capital in the region. It is only through upskilling and reskilling efforts that we will

6

be able to raise the current standards of our human resource industry, benchmarked with global standards as well as fuel the industry with HR professionals who will strive for business vitality, viability and sustainability. I congratulate Lighthouse Independent Media for successfully organising this event to recognise and celebrate excellence in human capital strategy and its executions. I also take this opportunity to congratulate the recipients of the HR Excellence Awards 2016. Let us stay true to our aspiration in driving our nation from good to great!
