LILIAN TAN SENIOR VICE-PRESIDENT OF HUMAN CAPITAL SATS LTD In the wake of Singapore’s larger demographic and legislative changes, there will be a significant upgrading of the local workforce towards PMET jobs, so the number of Singaporean PMET’s will rise. There will also be more diversity in the workforce – traditionalists, baby boomers, Gen X and Gen Y – meaning we’ll potentially see more of a talent shortage as the generations shift. When it comes to data as a trend, HR leaders really need to focus on workforce planning and innovative HR strategies to manage labour costs and increase productivity. This data should also be used across succession planning and all facets of talent management.
HR LEADERS ALSO HAVE TO REALISE WHAT THEY HAVE LEARNT IN THE PAST WILL NOT KEEP THEM COMPLIANT IN THE FUTURE, AND THEY MUST WORK HARDER TO IDENTIFY TALENT ACROSS THE ENTIRE COMPANY, SO AS TO BUILD A WIDER PIPELINE.” HR has also got to get away from the notion that uniform procedures will bring the best results. Act like a CFO, not just a CHRO. HR leaders also have to realise what they have learnt in the past will not keep them compliant in the future, and they must work harder to identify talent across the entire company, so as to build a wider pipeline. Tomorrow’s talent are also more mobile and
more connected to their colleagues and customers via powerful infocomm infrastructure than ever before. They want flexibility over the time and location of their work and will use technology to manage family, personal lives and work. This need to find a match between their own values and goals versus the company’s means they will be very mobile and looking for opportunities to continually learn and develop.
