EDITOR’S NOTE Welcome to the complex and competitive world of recruitment in Asia – where talent has more choices than ever before, and recruiters and talent acquisition heads are forced to constantly update their hiring strategies to lure the best of the best. As the people in your organisation tasked with locating and acquiring the right people with the right skills for the right roles, there’s no denying your job is a tough one. There are countless studies and surveys which tell us what we are all already experiencing – a huge shortage of skills creating pressure on hiring teams to fill vacancies; a changing technological climate forcing recruiters to go digital and mobile in their talent hunt; and a growing need for diversity of various kinds in the workforce ranks. Not to mention recent regulatory changes for both foreign as well as domestic staff, and new legislation around hiring practices that has already begun impacting recruiters and human resources departments across Asia. These trends have already affected changes in the way recruitment has been done in the past year, so what can we expect to see from next year onwards?
While these big changes may seem like big problems, we prefer to look at them as opportunities for HR professionals to become more innovative, creative and forward-thinking in their hiring strategies. This is why we at Human Resources are proud to bring to Malaysia the inaugural edition of Recruitment Interactive. Held in Singapore for the past two years, this year we bring this distinctive roundtable format to HR and recruitment leaders in the country to inspire the right kind of discussions. While the conference aims to identify best practices and highlight case studies from your HR peers, its foundation is underpinned by the unique interactive roundtable format, which allows you to better interact with your peers, and make the most of your day. Through the day, you can expect discussions and case studies on social recruiting, internal succession planning, and diversity frameworks. It is time to find untapped sources of talent, create measurable recruitment strategies and devise innovative learning programmes to plug up those skill gaps. So, let’s get talking. We hope you enjoy the event!
And although the economy is forecast to remain stable, will this help alleviate talent shortages in key areas and industries? Employers need to be able to react swiftly to environmental, regulatory and demographic changes in the labour market. Your job is to help your organisation adopt better, up-to-date practices to more effectively hire the right talent, and get ahead of the competition.

INTERACTIVE SESSION TOPICS 1. Candidate Sourcing With workforce demographics and employee expectations changing, many organisations are realising the importance of proactive sourcing. Which are the channels to find the best leads? How do you effectively navigate the sea of data? This roundtable will facilitate discussion on how to optimise your sourcing strategy and grow your sourcing channels.
A. Annastasia Karen Raj, head of talent acquisition, Hong Leong Bank B. Marta Kondryn, head of talent recruitment, Mindvalley Malaysia
2. Social Media Social media has changed the way candidates make job decisions. In this revolutionary world of recruiting, organisations that have not incorporated social media as part of their recruitment strategy have found that they are limiting their reach to talent. HR professionals are under increasing pressure to engage the talent community through all available channels including social media, even before the recruitment needs arise. Embrace the future of recruitment and leave with ideas that will ensure you have the right social media insights in place.
A. Valerie Wan, country HR manager, Ogilvy & Mather Malaysia B. Khoo May Leen, talent management director, Dentsu Aegis Network
3. Recruitment Outsourcing Outsourcing is often viewed as an opportunity to streamline the recruitment process and hand it over to someone who’s better equipped to find out what you are looking for. While this approach may work for less complicated HR processes, a relationship with a recruitment agent requires commitment and collaboration from both parties. So how do you assess and pick the right partner and how can you can foster a beneficial relationship.
A. Jerry Sagmaquen, practise director, Xpand Kuala Lumpur B. Su Tan, head of HR and general administration, Sri Kota Specialist Medical Centre
4. Technology & Innovation In today’s competitive world of talent acquisition, organizations are continuously seeking ways to adopt new and better methods to deal with recruitment challenges. However an array of technology that’s growing daily, navigating your options is becoming more difficult. How much should you really invest in this if anything? Join your host for an in-depth discussion on how to leverage on technologies and innovations to sharpen your competitive edge.
A. Fatimah Osman, regional sales manager, PageUp B. Sarah Forbes, Southeast Asia alliance manager, PageUp
5. Selection Excellence Many recruitment professionals are finding they are at their most successful when hiring through more than just a series of interviews. But, with the plethora of methods HR professionals can use in the selection process – interviews, practical or psychometric tests, assessment centres, role plays and team exercises – how do you know what’s going to work best for you? And how do you integrate these changes across your business. Use this session to learn from some experts who have gotten it right, and wrong and how their experiences can help you on your way.
