EDITOR’S NOTE A TOOLBOX FOR EFFECTIVE LEARNING Lifelong learning continues to be a nationwide agenda for Singapore, and countries across Asia. Not only is there emphasis on making the workforce more productive, there is also an equal focus on building next-level capabilities in areas where talent continues to be hard to find. In line with Singapore’s SkillsFuture programme that promotes continuous learning, local employees have started using their SkillsFuture Credit on a range of courses to upgrade and deepen their skills – an important step in allowing for individuals to be empowered and to take their own steps towards skills advancement. At the same time, the Ministry of Manpower has announced a commitment of an additional S$35 million a year from the Lifelong Learning Endowment Fund and Skills Development Fund as part of the Adapt and Grow initiative that will help people to adapt to changing job demands and grow their skills. Building a pipeline of home-grown talent is of paramount importance for organisational growth in this increasingly competitive business landscape. Equally important is for HR and learning leaders to adapt to new implements in their learning toolkit, with a growing number of technologies and formats available at their fingertips.

Over these two days, you can expect the opportunity to network, and get ideas about innovative L&D strategies from a number of organisations. We also promise you thought-provoking discussions through case studies and keynote sessions, and how to build best-in-class learning programmes and leadership initiatives. With the changing workforce in Singapore – and across the region – it is now more important than ever to plan learning strategies with effective longterm capabilities. Let us pledge to keep continuous learning on top of each of our priority lists – for ourselves and our teams. Please keep sharing your feedback with us during these two days or leave us a comment on Twitter using #TDA2016. Enjoy the conference.

Companies that are able to leverage on newer learning technologies and formats to engage employees, and maximise their return on investment, will be essentially laying the groundwork for a successful L&D programme. To discuss exactly that, we are proud to bring you the third annual Training & Development Asia to enable HR leaders to map the changes within the L&D space and determine key skilling strategies for an increasingly diverse workforce. Training & Development Asia has grown to become the leading annual conference for senior HR professionals from large organisations, hosted across Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong.
