Editor’s note Continuous learning is a nationwide agenda for Singapore. Not only is there an emphasis on making the current workforce more productive, but there is also an equal focus on building next-level capabilities to compete effectively with organisations outside of this region. The budget announced earlier this year by the country’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam listed investments in skills of the future as one of the nation’s top priorities this year. To promote this culture of lifelong learning, the government is planning to boost investments in its SkillsFuture programme by over $1 billion per year on average from now until 2020.
We also promise to discuss through case studies and keynote sessions how to build best-in-class learning programmes and leadership initiatives. With the changing workforce in Singapore – and across the region – it is now more important than ever to plan learning strategies with effective long-term capabilities. Let us pledge to keep continuous learning on top of each of our priority lists, for ourselves and our teams, who work so hard in their roles to achieve business goals. Enjoy the conference!
The impact of these initiatives will not be lost on local as well as international employers operating within the country. Building a pipeline of homegrown talent is of paramount importance for organisational growth in this increasingly competitive business landscape. And companies that are able to leverage on current L&D trends to engage employees and maximise their return on investment will be essentially laying the groundwork for a successful L&D programme. To do exactly that, Training & Development Asia returns for the second year to help HR leaders map the changes within the L&D space, and to determine key skilling strategies for an increasingly diverse workforce. Training & Development Asia has grown to become the leading annual conference for senior HR professionals from large organisations, and in fact this year, we expand to Hong Kong as well. Over this two-day conference, regional learning leaders will gain a much-needed opportunity to network, benchmark and learn from proven innovative L&D strategies at other organisations.

Simpleshow
Teamie
HR teams have always been delighted with the effectiveness of our simpleshow explainer video format when communicating complex or dry subjects. As the global market leader, we have wowed clients like Microsoft, Audi, Novartis, Singtel, Maybank, Astro, Google and HSBC in several thousand clips. Now we have expanded our range by adding the simpleshow interactive! A most engaging, entertaining and SCORM-compliant multimedia format that helps T&D professionals to really get their content across, achieve top levels of knowledge retention, have full tracking, visibility and mobility – and even be loved for it!
Teamie creates private social learning networks that transform training and collaboration within an organisation. Teamie connects trainers, learners and mentors on a common platform, which is a unique blend of different features that help organisations do away with multiple systems: • Whiteboard for posts and sharing of information through multimedia elements like video, audio, links and images (collaboration). • Learning management system that allows trainers to create feature-rich learning resources and different forms of assessments (LMS). • Reports that give administrators real-time insights on the use of the platform, the level of engagement and group performance (reporting). Teamie can be accessed through web browsers and mobile apps (iOS and Android), and thus extends learning and development beyond physical boundaries, enables easier management of the learning process with transparent communication, and creates an engaged learning community.
