Editor’s note Skills shortages in Asia have got to a point where 96% of employers say this can potentially hamper effective operations – with more than a third (34%) admitting they don’t have the talent now even to achieve current business objectives.

Please take full advantage of this opportunity to learn from each other, as our team has worked hard to bring you all together to map the route to engaging and retaining the best talent through mobility strategies.

As a result, two in three (65%) employers are willing to consider employing or sponsoring a qualified overseas candidate, as reported in a recent salary guide.

As you settle in this morning, we in the Human Resources team look forward to meeting all of you. Enjoy the conference, and as always, we look forward to your feedback!

The importance of plugging skill gaps around the region needs no explanation. What we do need is a clear path of career development, where employee mobility is no more an ad hoc way to plug the talent pipeline – but rather an effective tool for transferring skills and knowledge to the local workforce constantly, while giving assignees adequate learning opportunities to take back to their home country. In conversations with HR professionals across Asia, we find the ideal mobility structure becoming a part of the larger talent management structure, almost running like clockwork in creating a global flow of talent and skills. Really, there are many views on the best way to do this, and that’s just what today’s platform is all about. We at Human Resources have successfully organised the annual Workforce Mobility Interactive since 2015 in Singapore, and this year, it is our pleasure to see the event make its debut in Malaysia. Today, you can expect to see a line-up of talent mobility superstars sharing their insights into some of the biggest challenges through keynote presentations and panel discussions. However, not all the action will be on stage, as we have five unique interactive roundtable discussions that ensure everyone gets a chance to participate and share their experiences and concerns.
