OUR DINNER COCHAIRS
Dear Friends:
Hello and welcome to the 2023 Greater Cincinnati HRC Dinner. We are excited to be gathered with many outstanding LGBTQ+ advocates and allies within the Greater Cincinnati/NKY region. Although there are many faces in this space, it is incredibly heartwarming that we are all united together with the one focus of further achieving the goal of fundamental equality for all LGBTQ+ people. Our community is comprised of so many beautiful and vibrant facets. We’re all in this fight together and face unique and complex challenges to exist and thrive. The Human Rights Campaign works tirelessly to fight those political and legal battles on every front and in every great state in the country.
As we gather together tonight, we celebrate the incredible and vital successes since our last dinner. We proudly and enthusiastically laud the passage of the Respect for Marriage Act in Congress, the temporary defeat of the heinous anti-Trans HB 151 bill, and the update to a more inclusive non-discrimination policy from the city of Cincinnati, which was co-sponsored by tonight’s honoree, Council-member Reggie Harris.
We have a lot to celebrate, but we have a lot of work. We uplift our transgender/non-binary youth to live lives that lovingly respect their identities by creating programs and services that affirm their right to exist as they are. We look forward to the day when we can be confident that the right to marry for all people is the law of the land without contest. We actively champion the right for women to have autonomy over their bodies. We look toward meaningful gun reform in hopes of significantly reducing violence against our underserved communities, especially communities of color. We stand together to demand actionable change to our policing system to stop the disproportionate harm and deaths of people of color across the country.
Tonight is a night for us to be excited, for us to celebrate, for us to refresh, and for us to continue the work to achieve a world free of systemic bias and instead one full of opportunities for all people regardless of “sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression, age, color, religion, disability status, military status, familial status, marital status, or ethnic national or Appalachian regional origin.”.
We thank you for your continued proactive support of LGBTQ+ equality. We thank our Greater Cincinnati Steering Committee members, Board of Governors, Board of Directors, and local volunteers for your work throughout the past year. We want to thank our Corporate Sponsors, donors, dinner chairs, volunteers, and you all for helping to make tonight’s event one of the most successful dinners we’ve ever had. We thank all our local, state, and national elected officials who attend and continue to support us daily in their respective roles. Whether you’re joining us from Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, or beyond, thank you for celebrating with us tonight.
We sincerely hope you enjoy the program we have thoughtfully put together and hope this is a fresh reminder that we see, hear, and love you as you are. We are Many Faces with One Focus.
OUR MAYOR A WELCOME FROM
Friends,
It is my honor to welcome you to HRC’s Annual Greater Cincinnati Dinner! Because you’re here at this incredible event, I know you understand the importance, the excitement, and the togetherness that comes with our shared mission. And I humbly thank you for all you’ve done, and will continue to do, to be a part of HRC’s work towards equality and inclusivity. Equality for our LGBTQ+ family, and equality for all who, for too long, have been marginalized.
HRC is deeply ingrained in the fabric of our community. Throughout my career, this organization has been a constant source of advocacy, advice, and fervent support of our shared values. We all, together, have the good fortune and the serious responsibility of being living, breathing stewards of what HRC has helped achieve. The strides we’ve made in Greater Cincinnati have been made specifically because of the activists, organizers, community and business leaders –people like you in this room – who have stood firmly on the side of progress and mutual love and respect.
The Annual Dinner is a joyful celebration of the sacrifices and commitments you’ve made to support, uplift, and defend the forward progress driven by HRC and our community. But while we commemorate the accomplishments of the past, we will also use tonight as an opportunity to reaffirm, proudly, our collective commitment to the future. As allies, as advocates, as members of this vital team, we stand as one in our dedication to making sure that in Greater Cincinnati and across the globe, our LGBTQ+ friends and neighbors are embraced by all.
I’m so grateful to share this thrilling moment with you.

DAVID C. CROWLEY LEADERSHIP AWARD
The annual David C. Crowley Leadership award was established by HRC in 2010 to honor David Crowley and his lifetime devotion to human rights work.
David had a firm belief that all people are equal. His many roles from CEO of The American Association for the Homes for the Aged, freeing the AIDS babies from Romania, Country Director in the Peace Corp, to feet on the ground peacekeeper in war torn Croatia and Bosnia, to name a few, exemplified that belief.
As a Cincinnati City Council member David worked to successfully add sexual orientation, gender identity/expression to our City’s hate crimes legislation. He went on to work closely with HRC and others to help overturn Article 12, an ordinance that allowed discrimination. Once that was removed from the City Charter David led the effort to pass employment non-discrimination laws and by 2014 Cincinnati reached 100% on HRC’s MEI being the only city in Ohio at that time that covered the cost for transgender inclusive health care.
David passed away In January of 2011 proudly knowing that the David C. Crowley Leadership Award would be presented to recipients who share his vision of Equality.
Reggie Harris, MSW, LISW-S, is a Cincinnati City Councilmember, chairing the Budget and Finance committee and vice-chairing the Equitable Growth & Housing Committee. A former professional ballet dancer with ten years of performing experience, he danced for the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, Ballet Austin, River North Chicago Dance Company, and Dances Patrelle. Reggie spent four years working in Chicago’s first public performing arts high school, developing and teaching aspiring young dancers. As a clinical social worker and nonprofit leader, Reggie has worked in affordable housing development, LGBTQ homelessness, housing case management, and behavioral health therapy. In addition to his council work, Reggie is a Senior Fellow at the Children’s Funding Project, where he helps local governments expand equitable opportunities for children and youth through strategic public financing.
Reggie also is a consultant with EJP Consulting Group. He supports cities in applying for the competitive Department of Housing and Urban Development Choice Neighborhood Initiative grants. Reggie received his undergraduate degree from Roosevelt University and his Master of Social Work from Boston University.

FEDERAL CLUB AND FEDERAL CLUB COUNCIL
INVESTING IN LGBTQ EQUALITY
Welcome to the Greater Cincinnati Dinner! Think about why you’re here. Are you here on a corporate ticket? Do you have a friend on the Gala or Steering Committee? Have you been involved for years or is this your first HRC event? Whatever the reason, we’re glad you’re here -- with us -- because our work is so important and there’s never been a more urgent time to step up.
The Federal Club is a very important, long-term giving program that starts at a minimum of $100 a month. If you are not a Federal Club member, we are asking you to become a member now! By joining the Federal Club, you are joining the ranks of LGBTQ equality leaders as a driving force at the heart of our movement.
If you can afford a larger investment in this work, we encourage you to consider becoming a Federal Club Council member. The Federal Club Council is comprised of donors making annual gifts starting at $5,000. Federal Club Council members (also known as HRC’s major donors) have the option of designating their gifts to the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. As the HRC Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charity, gifts to the Foundation are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.
Your investment in equality could not come at a more critical time in our fight for full equality for everyone, everywhere. Radical anti-LGBTQ forces in the White House, Congress and in state houses across the country are determined to undo the progress we’ve made.
At the federal and state level, your support will help to fight multiple efforts to legalize discrimination against our community. Some of these efforts seek to not only legalize discrimination, but also to force states to embrace harmful “conversion therapy”; to invalidate local non-discrimination ordinances that protect LGBTQ people; and to punish transgender people for simply using the restroom.
To members of our families, our friends and allies – we ask you to join us tonight in expanding and diversifying our membership. There will never be a better time to join us than right now.
You can join us by using the Federal Club pledge cards provided on your table, or contacting us at FedClub@ hrc.org, or using our convenient secure online site to become a Federal Club member at www.hrc.org/FCJoin. To our current dedicated Federal Club and Federal Club Council members – THANK YOU for your generous support! Our progress toward LGTBQ equality would not be where it is today without the long-term, generous support from our Federal Club members. We hope you will consider increasing your generous monthly contribution this evening to help us fight the battles that are coming our way.

WHAT WE DO
The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer equality. Since 1980, we have been fighting for a better future for LGBTQ+ Americans. We are now working tirelessly to pass the Equality Act, which will soon head to the U.S. Senate for consideration, fight back against a multitude of anti-LGBTQ+ legis-lation in states nationwide and ensure everyone in our community is treated with dignity and respect. While our opponents are emboldened and on the attack, the Human Rights Campaign and our grass-roots army of more than 3.2 million members and supporters are energetically defending the rights we’ve gained and ramping up our fight for full equality across the board.
ANTI-EQUALITY LEADERS AND LEGISLATION
The alarming spate of anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced across the country in 2020 has continued to surge in 2021. These include bills that would prohibit transgender youth from receiving genderaffirming care and bills that would prohibit transgender youth from participating in sports. This wave of anti-transgender legislation harkens back to the surge of anti-transgender bathroom bills that hit state legislatures in 2016, including North Carolina’s HB2. We remain committed to aggressively fighting these threats to equality by those who seek to undermine our rights. HRC will do whatever it takes to protect the rights and fundamental equality of every LGBTQ+ person in this country.
BU ILDING A ND DEMONSTR AT ING POLITICAL P OWER
HRC’s decades-long work to build political power has uniquely positioned us to reach LGBTQ+ and ally voters who prioritize equality on the ballot, also known as Equality Voters. HRC has identified 57 million Equality Voters nationwide who, if they turn out to vote, will support pro-equality candidates. HRC’s early and sustained year-round engagement in battleground states like Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin bolstered historic turnout in 2018 and 2020 producing pro-equality outcomes at every level of government. In 2019, HRC’s mobilization of Equality Voters in Virginia, where lawmakers had repeatedly blocked proequality bills over many years, produced groundbreaking progress for LGBTQ+ Americans in the South. These victories led to the Virginia Values Act becoming law, making Virginia the first state in the South to advance statewide nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ+ people.
ADVANCING EQUALITY IN OUR DAILY LIVES
The HRC Foundation improves the lives LGBTQ+ people by building understanding and shaping the public debate of LGBTQ+ people and the challenges they face through innovative research and public education campaigns. We also change the policies and practices in the institutions that shape our everyday lives (hospitals, schools, workplaces, and more) and empower strategic partners, community advocates, and allies through convenings and capacity-building. Guided by these theories of change and seeking to prioritize work impacting those who are multiply marginalized, we have 11 cuttingedge programs advancing equality in the U.S. and beyond.
All Children - All Families is the only national program dedicated to LGBTQ+ inclusion in child welfare (foster care and adoption agencies) that provides resource development, technical assistance and training.
Public Education & Research produces written resources and conducts original quantitative and qualitative research exploring the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ people.
Global Partnerships provides capacity-building and leadership development opportunities to LGBTQ+ advocates from around the world to strengthen movements and advance global LGBTQ+ equality.

HIV & Health Equity develops public education and capacitybuilding programs to address the disproportionate impact of HIV on Black and Latinx communities.
Religion & Faith provides faith leaders with opportunities and tools to stand up for equality even as opponents attempt to weaponize faith against LGBTQ+ people.
Transgender Justice Initiative leads economic empowerment programs, capacity-building initiatives, community engagement efforts, and public safety education campaigns that combat the discrimination faced by transgender people.
Welcoming Schools is the only bias-based bullying prevention program in the nation to provide LGBTQ+-specific training and resources with an intersectional lens, developed for use in elementary schools.
Workplace Equality advances equality for LGBTQ+ workers through the adoption and implementation of inclusive policies, practices, and benefits in the U.S. and beyond.
Youth Well-Being provides professional development to over 5,000 youth-serving professionals annually, through the annual Time to THRIVE conference, webinars, participation at major national convenings, and by amplifying the stories of HRC Youth Ambassadors. The program also convenes HRC’s Parents for Transgender Equality Council.

Transgender and non-binary people are your neighbors, co-workers, family members and friends. And when you or your friends and family are the targets of hate, violence and discrimination, you act.
The Human Rights Campaign is actively working to advocate for the rights and lives of the transgender and non-binary community–but we all must do more–can we count you in?
As LGBTQ+ people and allies, we have a responsibility to fight for EVERYONE in our movement. Now is the time to get loud, get visible, and spread awareness on behalf of transgender and non-binary people. So please take the actions below–but don’t stop there.
The more people who show they care, including allies and trans and non-binary people who speak up for the most marginalized in our community, the more hearts and minds we will change.
Sign the Pledge and Impact Change
The first step in voicing your support for the trans and non-binary community is to sign your name to the Count Me In pledge. By taking this action, you’re sending a message that you vow to go out of your way to raise awareness and uplift the lives of our trans and non-binary friends and family.
Contact State Legislators
State legislatures are attacking LGBTQ+ folks, particularly trans people, left and right. Show antiequality legislators that we won’t tolerate any more bullying and discrimination.
Request and Show Off Your Sticker
Display your special edition HRC sticker on your car, laptop, water bottle — no matter where you put it, you’ll be saying you support our trans community.
Spread the Word On Social Media
Post these image shares on your social media channels and update your profile photos and let your networks know you believe in a more just and equitable world for trans folks — full stop.
Provide Inclusive Books to an At-Need Library
Your contribution will provide a set of three books to a Title 1 school or community library serving multiply marginalized populations across the country.
Share a Voice Message of Support
State legislatures are targeting trans kids. Text HEART to 472-472 to share a public message of support for trans youth and show you’re fighting for them.
(Msg&dataratesmayapply. Recurring msgs. TxtSTOP2quit. HELP4info.)
Let Kids Play
Rebekah is a 14-year-old girl who loves school, reading, hanging out with her friends and playing field hockey. But lawmakers across the country are trying to pass laws that would prohibit Rebekah from playing sports with other girls.
Can we count you in?
Wear Your Support
