THEATER AND DANCE 31 Brutal and beautiful animality – Interview with Quim Girón

Dear Reader, another year has passed and a remarkable anniversary is coming up in the history of Sziget since we are leaving behind our everyday lives and diving into the exciting world of the Island of Freedom for the 25th time this year. A quarter of a century is a long time in a man’s life, and even longer in a festival’s history. Our Sziget has changed a lot over the years: it has grown up and grown up big, developed and strengthened, but hasn’t lost its original values: the love of freedom, the importance of cultural diversity, the respect and acceptance of ’otherness’. Our Sziget is not only an island in the original sense of the word, but in a symbolic way as well where our old slogans llike ’we need a week together’ or ’the place where you can do everything, but you don’t have to do anything’ still hold up. This is a Festival Republic, the Island of Freedom where the feeling of being secure can be present together with helping or accommodating those in need; where civil consciousness does not evoke fear but self-confidence; where we can be proud to be Hungarians and cherish our national values as well as our European ones. At the same time, Sziget was created with the intention to provide a week of fun to anybody that embarks on this journey with us. Dear Friend,

29 Play on the streets!

I am happy to recommend this special issue to you. It wasn’t an easy feat to gather all the best programs of the 25th Sziget and present its diversity, its cultural values and all of its colours – all of those things that make Sziget Sziget. But this is all just smoke and mirrors, since the real power lies within those who share our values and visit us to enjoy them together.

THEATER AND DANCE

We are looking forward to seeing you!

truth of that statement when Sziget becomes the home of endless freedom for a week. When I’m there, it’s as if I was in a different country and that’s such a unique feeling. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you came from; what matters is to discover music, friends, love and shared memories together. Sziget is a place where regardless of their gender, age, ethnicity, nationality or identity, everyone can have fun and be free. The programs reflect this diversity as well, including a number of LGBTQ performers among them. It’s already the second instance that Humen Magazine published the Sziget Special Issue in order to make it easier for you to choose from the wide range of colorful programs the festival offers. Whether it is a concert or a movie, a theater or circus performance, or a vaudeville show, we’re sure that you will be able to find what attracts you the most. I encourage you to use your instincts in making your discoveries at Sziget and don’t be afraid to immerse yourselves in carefree freedom for a week! Zsolt Erdei

HOMOPHOBIA AMONGST GAYS:

AN

COMING OUT: the inevitable topic.

There are some instances when a coming out takes place differently than expected – when a mother or a father refuses to stay in a box (or a closet) for the sake of stereotypical parenting. The guest of the section is Ezra Dagan, a retired Israeli actor whose monodrama ’I Am My Own Wife’ has just debuted in Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem. Psychologist and psychotherapist Nóra Árvai will be giving advice in order to help ’unusual’ parents. GENDERS’ GAME: how accepted it is to live and work as a transgender person in Hungarian society nowadays? Musician, DJ and LGBTQ warrior Jaimie Wilson shares his own story: he was assigned girl as his gender at birth and had been living as a girl for 18 years when he transitioned. His efforts and dedication have proven fruitful: today he is a social media star. Rea Mueller (formerly András, now known as Andrea), a Hungarian vlogger shares her experiences as well. After all these serious topics there comes a couple of hours full of laughter. Further information on Sziget Comedy can be found on page… Following the performances of worldclass comedians, first a bunch of exciting bands take the stage, then, at 11pm, comes probably the most anticipated part of the evening: the

ISLAND ON THE SZIGET variety show. This year, the Australian group Strut&Fret will dazzle audiences with their show entitled ’Limbo’.

LIMBO Director Scott Maidment’s show had been performed around the world and now, after New York, London and Melbourne, the visitors of Sziget are getting the chance to see it. Crazy beats, breathtaking tricks, cabaret, circus and acrobatics are combined in this sexy and provocative performance. Muscular guys, pretty girls, live music, fiery glances, handcuffs and chains – LIMBO has everything that you need for an unforgettable Magic Mirror show. Members of the group are gathered from all around the world. Sword swallower beauty Heather Holliday came from Coney Island; Mikael Bres, the beat-boxing clown who knows nothing of gravity was born in France as well as rubber man Aurelien Oudot; Evelyne-Allard is the French-Canadian queen of the air; Danik Abishev, growing up in a Russian circus family, has always walked more on his hands than his feet. The troupe turned out to be so fantastic, that even Madonna went to see them twice. After all these adventures, there is no better way to end a night than one of Magic Mirror’s legendary parties with awesome DJs and a roaring crowd.

DJ IPEK

TINA C.

„When Ipek is playing, people dance and scream and always want more, whether they be in Berlin, Stockholm or New York”, wrote a Swedish magazine about queer DJ Ipek whose home is always somewhere between Istanbul and Berlin. A regular at Sziget, she has played before at Glastonbury, Fusion, At.tension and Berlin Festival as well. His music is a mixture of psychedelic Turkish funk and disco, the folk music of the Balkan and minimal genres, Kurdish halay and electro, Turkish tango and break elements – the comparisons could go on and on. His tracks are free from traditions and nothing limits their variety – neither styles or tempo, nor genres. If you want to experience something really special, party with DJ Ipek.

“No Dick’s As Hard As My Life”, said country singer Tina C. on her second album. After 9/11, she toured the world campaigning for peace, becoming the poster girl of America. She performed at the Royal Albert Hall and the Sydney Opera, had her own TV and radio show. You can run, but you can’t hide from Tina C.

SADO OPERA A special and extravagant queer team from Saint Petersburg, who have recently become one of Berlin’s coolest export music products? Yes, this is no smoke and mirrors. American talk show host Conan O’Brien chose them as Berlin’s musical symbol in his coverage of the German capital. Let the voice of the singer seduce you - dare to dream big and be wild!

JAMIE WILSON At first, Jamie Wilson became known through Instagram by documenting his transition from female to male in which not only his body, but his voice also changed, giving him a new opportunity. Music has always been a part of his life, since his mother is a renowned singer and songwriter in the US. He started playing the piano when he was four, but his real breakthrough came when his mother gave him his first guitar. His unique style is thanks to him being self-educated. Music just flows out of him. Escaping, dreaming, life – that’s what singing means to him. His parents and his family were unfortunately not on board with his transition, so he had to move away from home. Since then he has been touring the world as a musician and fighting for the rights of transgender people.

Dave Thompson

STAND-UP

FUNFEST Patrick Lamb

Live, on tv or online – you’ve certainly seen a standup comedy performance before. You may even have a favorite performer whose sarcastic/over-the-top/ impossible/overwhelming/unrepeatable/fantastically morbid humor simply captivates you. Varieties are endless, but one thing is certain: fun. How a performer achieves that, it doesn’t matter. Let’s get together in the Magic Mirror tent where Dave Thompson’s guests will dazzle the audiences of Sziget Comedy, along with one of the most well-known figures of Hungarian comedy. Smile!

Do you remember Tinky Winky from the Teletubbies? Have you ever wondered who it could be under the purple costume? Now it’s time to meet the man: Dave Thompson. The host of Sziget Comedy is a returning guest of Magic Mirror. They say that the British comedian’s performances are like a compilation of all the cat videos on the internet. Come and see how someone can be even weirder than Tinky Winky.

And who did Dave invite? MICHAEL FABBRI Fabbri deals with slippery everyday topics with morbid and honest humor. He can easily switch between harder, dividing topics and light fooling around. Refreshing

37

eclecticism and brilliant humor – come and see for yourself!

CHARMAINE DAVIES Charmaine Davies has worked with Judi Dench and Jo Brand before, among others. Theatre, movies, tv productions (BBC1, Channel4, Sky) are all in her pocket. This year, she would like to amaze the audiences of Sziget with her bubbly, friendly and funny personality.

SEAN MEO Besides being awarded the title ‘Comedian of the Year’ by Time Out magazine, Meo is one of the best performers and writers of the industry. He had originally been a professional snooker player, then he switched to comedy. After Singapore, Mebourne, Great Britain, Canada

Magic Mirror

COMEDY and the US, he is ready to take the stage at Sziget.

DICKIE RICHARDS Richards was born in London into a Polish family. Since then, he has visited every corner of Europe with this Harlequin-performance, taking the world by storm with the shortest jokes ever. Be sure to arrive in time!

PRINCE ABDI Abdi is a comedian and actor in one. He has shown his original humor on BBC, Comedy Central and ITV as well. He is also known for his parts in comedy and drama series.

PAUL RICKETTS Ricketts is one of the most successful comedians of Great Britain, a returning guest of British stand-up clubs. Sometimes foolish, other times surreal; sometimes personal, other times political; sometimes serious, but always funny.

PATRICK LAMB Lamb started his career in 2013 in Vienna with a performance titled ‘The Tao of Beer’. It was only his second show when he was the opening act for the legendary Dylan Moran. Since then, he has been unstoppable; in 2015, his second solo show titled ‘WTF?’ premiered. In the past few months, the question he was most frequently asked in Austrian talk shows was ‘This Brexit thing… are you out of your mind?’

JOE BOR He was awarded the titles ‘Comedian of the Year’ and ‘Jewish Comedian of the Year’, performed in

several TV shows, while also working as an independent filmmaker. The variety of Joe Bor will amaze you for sure.

GEOFF BOYZ Boyz has already performed in the biggest cities and the most prominent stand-up clubs of Europe. He also worked for the stand-up comedy program of BBC Radio 2 and a number of TV shows (Dead Ringers, This Morning, Comedy Store). He produces independent theatre productions, too.

THE ODDBODS The more the merrier, thought Steve Bowditch, Dave Thompson and Dickie Richards, when they decided to create a show for the three of them. Their most famous performance is the ‘Naked Balloon Dance’. We are seriously encouraging you to see it!

Miklós Galla

MIKLÓS GALLA (HUNGARY) Galla doesn’t need an introduction when it comes to Hungarians. He’s a very well-known comedian, musician, the founder of Holló Theatre, a former member of the Company L’art pour l’art, a composer and painter. His sophisticated humor is unforgettable. Besides Hungarian, he is confident in English, too, since he was the one who translated the whole of Monthy Python’s Flying Circus. He befriended and interviewed all five members of Monthy Python who are still alive. Furthermore, he performed together with Eric Idle in ‘Not The Messiah (He’s A Very Naughty Boy)’ when the production came to Hungary.

CAT CITY 13 AUG 13:00

KILLS ON WHEELS 12 AUG 23:00

STRANGLED 11 AUG 23:00

LIZA THE FOX-FAIRY 10 AUG 15:00

You love movies and you can’t stand the thought of spending an entire week without the moving pictures at Sziget? Fear not: the organizers didn’t forget about the lovers of the silver screen, assembling a selection of excellent films including old classics and newer releases. Below you can read a bit about the Hungarian items of the program.

35 8

Pretty but extremely shy, nurse Liza’s life changes in an instant when she gets a day off on her birthday from the widow of the Japanese ambassador. Liza is looking for true love, but her every step is followed by tragedies. The ghost of Tomy Tani, a Japanese singer reveals her curse to her: she is a fox-fairy. On her pursuit to break the curse, Liza is accompanied by a handsome investigator. Will they succeed in the end?

Based on real events, director Árpád Sopsits’s psychothriller is about a series of lust murders committed in 1957 and in the early 1960s in the vicinity of Martfű in Hungary. Flawless performances, outstanding visuality and crackling tension all the way through – who can be the real killer?

Action comedy about a gang in wheelchairs. What?! An actual wheelchair-using crime gang? Yes, you read it right. In the second feature film of Attila Till, two disabled teenagers team up with an assassin in a wheelchair. Nothing is what is it seems like, imagination and reality blends together. Between two gunfights, we also learn what kind of obstacles disabled people face every day. We can promise that you will have a few good laughs as well. Don’t miss it!

One of the best – if not the best – animated feature films of Hungarian filmmaking, Cat City is full of iconic scenes and memorable quotes that almost any Hungarian can recite to you. This movie about the war between cats and mice is a spy movie, a war movie and a parody all in one. An unforgettable classic.

Magic Mirror Circus

THREE, TWO, ONE – CIRCUS!

’A bunch of somersaulting acrobats and a few clowns’ – do you really think that the circus can’t give you anything more? Or have you only experienced this kind of circus before? Whether your answer is yes, or you already know better, your place is here. There will be a Romeo and Juliet adaptation; a chaotic performance by five men and five women; shows by duos and individuals; fire juggling and playing with water glasses. This year’s circus program is just as diverse as the society of the Island of Freedom. Come and find your place among them! MR. BANANA SHOW Gods and superheroes – how is your relationship with them? If this is not your first Sziget, then you are not easily surprised anymore, but this probably wasn’t your first thought when it comes to circus performances. But it is, indeed, the theme of Mr. Banana’s show where the French-Canadian performer is looking for the answer to the question above. But who will save the audience?

THE WHITE PHOENIX

33

Three companies – Firebirds, Flame Flowers and Solstix – embark on a journey to find a mystical creature called the white phoenix. The fire jugglers find first the footprints, then the feathers of the creature; while they are healed by the magical tears of the phoenix themselves.

The show is also an opportunity for the performers to heal their souls since it was composed in memory of the company’s late member, Linda Farkas.

IMRE BAROSS CIRCUS INSTITUTE Instead of peace, revenge; instead of silence, screams. There is no place for love, only slaughter. Shakespeare’s timeless classic, Romeo and Juliet was the base for the performance of the Imre Baross Circus Institute. Two mafia families fight each other on the stage; the young acrobats use the artistic elements of circus and physical theatre as one the best known love stories in the world comes to life.

CIRQUE ALFONSE: BARBU Circus in the past and the present – they have one thing in common: the

performance helps to escape reality. The performers and the viewers are human, too, with all the deep human feelings. The present is influenced and changed by the realities of the past, just as a distorted mirror changes real objects. The essence of human being is the desire to live, so we are constantly trying to renew it – this is what director Alain Francoeur said about the BARBU Electro Trad Cabaret’s performance.

MACHINE DE CIRQUE Five men who definitely know how to satisfy you. Oh, no, not in that way! Or is it that way? You really shouldn’t miss the show of Machine de Cirque; it’s poetic and humorous at the same time. Five men go searching for each other with the help of a peculiar instrument, while they balance on a seesaw, juggling maces, drums and

BRUTAL AND BEAUTIFUL ANIMALITY – INTERVIEW WITH QUIM GIRÓN He has learned his craft in Barcelona, France and Sweden; his performances are brutal, beautiful and uncontrollable at the same time. Spanish artist Quim Girón would like to try space travel and perform together with Björk when she’s DJing. Why did you choose gender and animality as inspiration to your work? Those were the two topics present in my life when I created the show. What are the reactions you would like to trigger within your audience through your pieces? My question is, how close are we to animals and how are we different from them? I can be brutal, beautiful, sexy, gentle, lovable and uncontrollable. It’s a funny show, but it also makes you think about our behavior as men and women. I express my own experiences with men, women and animals. Do you use dancing as a kind of therapy? If yes, what was your biggest trauma that you could process through dancing? Of course. My biggest trauma was being born.

If you could have one wish what would that be? I would try space travel, go really far away and discover the workings of other planets and the universe. After a month I would return to Earth and create a show. You studied in the circus school Rogelio River in Barcelona. What did you gain from those years? Confidence, knowledge and the physical basics. What did you learn when you moved abroad and studied in different countries (France and Sweden)? I learned that I would like to express myself as an artist – that gives me the motivation to create circus performances.

Is there any stage/place where you would really want to dance? I have seen Björk perform as a DJ in Barcelona. I would really like to perform with her. What is your biggest success in life? That I make a living from my passion. I don’t plan for more than five months and still, I’m not afraid. Is there anything you would change about your life? Sometimes, stress and anxiety takes over my life. I would like to leave that behind. Have you ever been to Budapest before? What do you know about the city? I’ve never been here before, so I’m excited to discover the city.

Magic Mirror Street Theaters

PLAY ON THE STREETS! Giant Street Theatre productions are among the most popular programs at Sziget festival and of course, this year is no exception when it comes to their diversity. One of the most unique performers is Das Universal Druckluft Orchester, a mechanical musical instrument and its maker’s show in which every genre of music has a place. The company of Snuff Puppets returns this year with their gigantic human body parts – so you really shouldn’t be surprised if a lonely limb comes your way when you turn a corner. The Cie La Soup tells the heartfelt love story of Macao and Cosmage with a mini puppet theater hung on their neck; viewers are able to listen to the accompanying music with headphones. Just to make your decision a bit harder, let’s see what else Sziget offers!

MR. IMAGE THEATRE (NL) – BIG BUGS

29

When the giant cockroach, the humongous ladybug, the humansized stag beetle and the huge jewel bug goes for a walk with the forester… – no, this is not the beginning of a joke, but one of the performances of the Street Theater program. Kafka would be jealous of the effects of a bug as big as an adult human

has on people. The Forester is a representative of the environmental protection group G.R.E.E.N. , while the performance itself reflects, in a sarcastic way, to the effects of the fast food industry and food waste on our planet. Let us introduce you to the ‘performers’: Conchitta, the ladybug seems cute but can become dangerous easily. Rudolph, the cockroach moves with the speed of light: you don’t even notice and he climbs your back in a second. You can put a collar on Priscilla, the jewel bug and take her on a walk in the park. Last but not least, coke and beer addict stag beetle Fido is a real alpha male – and a vegetarian one at that.

DARIO ROSSI (I) Rossi is one of the most renowned drummers of the world. His uniqueness lies in this equipment since he uses recycled objects to play on. At first he had been a street performer at Piccadilly Circus in London when in 2014 he went viral with a video recorded on Alexanderplatz in Berlin. Since then, he toured around Europe: after Brussels, Oslo, Copenhagen, Prague, Paris and Barcelona, he is returning to Sziget as a well-known staple.

FOOLPOOL (D) – THE HERD OF MECHANICAL CREATURES Humming, buzzing, steaming metal giants. Three mechanical creatures, three shepherds. Changing pastures – does the way down the hill necessarily lead to the slaughterhouse? Their future is uncertain. Yesterday they meant the future – today they are simply part of reality. These installations made of recycled bikes embody technical development, but at the same time, they question its meaningfulness as well. A critical answer to the use of scarce materials and our blind fate in technology. Stop and think for a moment!

CARDBOARDIA (RU) – OOZ BAND (F) How would you build your own perfect world? Imagine that you step out the door and also step out of your everyday life; you become the hero of your story. Cardboardia has been organizing interactive presentations and workshops for years now; furthermore, in some countries they established permanent ‘experimental spaces’ as well (in Russia, Latvia, Taiwan, the Netherlands, Poland, Denmark and Greta Britain). At Sziget, you can experiment with them, too. The team of Carboardia gives you an opportunity to become the hero of your favorite movie and a member of

Street Magic Theaters Mirror

LATALAYA (E/F)

a street theater group. Every day has a new theme, finished by a huge parade with the band Ooz providing the music. Besides their spectacular looks, the French band attracts their audience with their crazy choreographies and their magical music combining elements of funk, jazz, hip-hop and rhythms from the Balkan. Join the team of Cardboardia, create your own character and become the star of the day, the new celebrity of the company!

DI FILIPPO MARIONETTE (I): HANGING BY A THREAD ‘Hanging by a Thread’ – this is the title of Remo di Fiippo and Rhoda Lopez’s joint production, with a group of marionettes and our inner child that they speak to. Although they have already performed it in 14 countries, the two artists are preparing for their first performance in Hungary as if this would be their first time. Let them pull you by a string!

The biggest Street Theatre program of Sziget was written especially for the visitors of the festival. Two groups from two different countries decided to combine their shows. After their undivided success last year, Collactif Arbuste returns to Sziget with a special production of their performance INSTRUMENTARIUM, joined by Aerial Jockey Strada’S breathtaking show called ETERFEEL. This performance will only be available at Sziget in this form. Come and let go of your inhibitions with live music, colorful lights and the ruins of an old tower structure!

Magic Mirror Theater and dance

DanceTheater This year’s Theatre and Dance Tent has quite a promising list of programs for the visitors of Sziget Festival. Among them you can find a combination of modern dance and technology with 3D illusions; eleven men’s dance performance about unity, group dynamics and harmony; two contemporary versions of Swan Lake; a hip-hop choreography accompanied by a gigantic metal structure and an interactive roundtable discussion about the specifics of contemporary dance. Gotta catch ’em all! DADA MASILO – SWAN LAKE

27

‘Swan Lake was the first ballet I have ever seen when I first started dancing. I fell in love instantly, especially with the tutus. I made a promise to one day direct my own version of it. Jumping to 2009, I started to play with my vocabulary of movements, mesmerized by

the music of Tchaikovsky. I can’t remember the point when I decided to mix classic ballet with African tribal dances, but I knew that it will be great’ – said Dada Masilo about her production. Be prepared to experience probably the most unique Swan Lake performance up to this day: it will include singing, speaking, shouting and even screaming. Let’s see how a ‘loud’ Swan Lake fares!

ÉVA DUDA COMPANY – BREATHE! Personal confessions, labyrinths and struggles are combined with the concept and the feeling of freedom in this performance. Built on the improvisations of the actors, the final performance still has a free flow, like a powerfully erupting breath of air. Established in 2009, Éva Duda’s Company has created 20 shows up until now. Besides contemporary dance performances, their diverse repertoire includes physical theatre and ‘Gesamtkunstwerks’ (productions consisting of different forms of art) as well. They also have several training projects, international

workshops and introductory theatre programs, too. Breathe with them!

CENTRAL EUROPEAN DANCE THEATRE – WHO ARE YOU, CONTEMPORARY DANCE? Let’s think together about dancing, arts and being contemporary with the members of the Central European Dance Theatre! They invite you on a journey where you can discover more about history, aesthetics and contemporary dance as well. With the help of their most emblematic performances, the show aims to discover the origins of dancing. It’s a mutual conversation where the language of gestures has the same significance as its spoken counterpart – discover the rhythm of your own body!

SHORT PREVIEWS The focus of the Spanish Animal Religion’s show is gender roles, especially the differences between men and women. Cie Diagn’Art is an exotic delight for the lovers of contemporary dance where the performers show despair, joy and celebration through the everydays of a changing society.

Israeli-born Yaniv Cohen’s performance is based on interviews recorded with a hand-held camera, in which people talk about their relations with Jerusalem. The dancers react to their thoughts completing the show to a special visual experience. Combining technology and contemporary dance, Compaigne Käfig’s performance ‘Pixel’ takes place in an incredible space filled with 3D illusions, making the French production one of the most spectacular experimental shows available nowadays. Compaigne 7273 from Switzerland brings us the perfect harmony of music and movement with their gracefully undulating choreography. Of course, the program also includes Hungarian performances, probably the most exciting among them being ‘Taboo Collection’ by Fruzsina Nagy, Dóra Halas and Soharóza. The show is a combination of a crazy fashion show and a chorus piece about unpleasant topics. ‘Waiting for Schrödinger’ by Timothy and the Things is about waiting and delay, and the intense emotional reactions following them. Last but not least, we should mention Eszter Kálmán’s version of Swan Lake in coproduction with a dancer and a puppeteer where the borders between animate and inanimate vanish almost completely.

PLAY WITH FIRE! The Firebirds juggling team was established in 2000. Their foreign invitations took them all over Europe and the States, but they have already performed in the Middle-East and India as well. They have had more than 2000 shows all around the world, always in focus with their unique technique, visuality and artistical self-expression. This year, they are performing three shows at Sziget. SWING OVER (11 August)

2 FOR 1 (12 August)

FIREFLOW (14 August)

Collective subconscious includes the fear of fire, the most devastating element. The show focuses on this inner instinct. The performers challenge each other with their graceful and ethereal dance, while their fiery illusions, fireballs and flame columns amaze the audience. Their brilliant juggling and talent in acrobatics are nothing less than the cherry on top.

During the spectacular show firejuggling and acrobatics melts together in a new circus act. It tells the story of an innocent in the claws of two plªyful women. Special effects and visual elements designed especially for this show combined with breathtaking acrobatics and juggling make the experience unforgettable.

Fireflow introduces us into the relations of two women and a man in an antique shop. The eccentric owner continues to show the best merchandise of the shop to the curious visitors. Fire and its ancient power melts all masks and purifies everything… the show provides a new insight of our everyday habits.

FLAME FLOWERS – WALTZ OF FLAMES (13 August)

KÓCOS CIRKUSZ – KÓCOLÓGIA (15 August)

A special dance telling the story of a man and a woman. While selecting the music and creating the choreography, the performers went back to old, classical styles, taking us on a special journey back to the world of Renaissance, Baroque and Romanticism. The mix of classical and contemporary elements provide an unforgettable experience.

The company provides a unique, nomadic elegance summoning the world of the travelling circuses. In their outstanding fire séance they combine sensuality with juggling and acrobalance. Outstanding style elements and electronic world music collides in this spectacular and memorable show, which should not be missed.

FURTHER PERFORMERS:

SOLSTIX (10 August) Talent, art and vocation. Two souls connected by a joint passion. Valerie Ann Sealey and Steve Joshua Dyffort established the company back in 2003 to unite their artistic knowledge in a new, innovative masterpiece. The duo is well known for their unique talent in fire juggling and dance.

TEDx

LISTEN

AND IMAGINE!

„Just imagine a world where everything is beautiful, good and true! How would life work if we could achieve or create every single thing that we really need on this earth? Is this just a fantasy? They say that if you can imagine it, you can do it. But this process needs to be a careful and mindful one, since creating our future is a great responsiblity. We may be dreamers, but we believe – as John Lennon did – that a dream you dream together is reality.” This year, TEDxYouth Budapest invites you to imagine a world that is worth working for. VIKTOR MORANDINI HAPPINESS, EVEN ON MONDAYS Viktor has found the secret of happiness. Don’t let small things get the best of you. But how? You only need a raincoat that protects your body and your soul, complete with bits of happiness and an evening ritual. Don’t worry, Viktor will guide you on your way.

LILI LANTOS WHEN DO WE START BUILDING A HUMAN?

PÉTER KARCAGI WHY WE STILL DON’T LIVE ON MARS Péter is an ’experience astronomer’ and space sci-fi fan who, after giving it a bit of thought, would definitely try space travel. But what do you actually need in order to survive the cruel conditions on Mars? Is it enough to have a good team, a bunch of equipment and a cool space suit? What are the facts that movies forget to mention when conquering the Red Planet?

MIHÁLY ZSÍROS REPLANNING Mihály Zsíros had been a professional runner for 15 years, but after winning a series of national competitions, his final dream of participating at the Olympics remained unfulfilled. He was not able to continue his professional career which he was unable to process for a long period of time. In his presentation he will speak about tackling deadlocks and how to replan your life; how to reframe your failures and how our experiences can be helpful for our future.

17-year-old Lili is writing her high school project on stem cells. Besides school she is studying philosophy and psychology which made her rethink the wonderful results and possibilities of biotechnology. How much power does this branch of science has in itself? Can ethical norms put an end to endless technological potential?
