Letter from the Editor
It’s hard to believe that this August issue of Humps N Horns is already bringing thoughts of Back to School time for the kids in our lives.
seem to think that they know it all and it has always been a great reminder of the fact that I most certainly don’t know it all.
It seems that many of the kids got the short end of the stick by having an extended 2020-2021 school year to make up for some of the time they missed due to Covid-19. Hopefully this will get them back to a normal schedule with no interruptions in the next school year.
I am thankful for many people, family, friends, mentors, who have taught me and invested in making me a better person. My goal is to be the kind of guy who is willing to do that for those who cross my path, as well. I hope you will do what you can, no matter how small it may seem, to help develop the next generation.
Our daughter is pretty excited since she’ll be a senior in high school and this will be her “last year” of school. For most of the students in her shoes, there is a potential for at least four more years of school in college and then the real learning begins. It’s called life!
We hope you enjoy this issue of Humps N Horns! Until next time, Terry
My hope, for all of us, is that the learning never stops all the days of our lives. I’ve met a lot of people over the years who

Talking “Bull” with Brayden
Hi my name is Brayden Hollywood Brown and I’m a miniature bull rider. Today we are going to be recapping the Koben Puckett Invitational, a PBR Touring Pro Division event in Amarillo, Texas. So let’s get into it. Before we get into it, if you guys are not already following my Facebook group, Everything Bull Riding, you need to get in there. We are doing live bull riding trainings on different areas of bull riding once a week. So what are you waiting for, get in there right and join the Everything Bull Riding family. Alright, on with the recap. Mauricio Moreira rode Burn Unit for 81.50 points. This was a rank black and white speckle bull that went away from Mauricio’s hand, he got the job done for a good score. Nathan Burtenshaw rode Little Bill for 84 points. The Australian cowboy handled a good one here. The bull went away from his hand. He didn’t have as much kick at the end of the ride but still helpes Nathan come away with a good score. Vinell Mariano rode JDN 110 for 84.50 points. This was a good ride away from this guy’s hand but he got out of position a few times or this would have won the round.
just pulled himself right back to the middle with ease. Overall, a great bull ride and I’m looking forward to seeing this guy on the Unleash The Beast series. Your championship round winner and your event winner ended up being Mister Junior Patrik Souza. Souza rode Spaniard for 87.50 points. This was a heck of a bull ride away from Souza’s hand; definitely the best ride of the event. This bull was canking it with tons of kick and belly rolls this was a well deserved win for Junior. Thanks for reading I look forward to writing to you each month. To find out more about me all of my socials are Brayden Hollywood Brown. Again join the Everything Bull Riding Facebook group. Thank you, Brayden Hollywood Brown
Juinor Patrik Souza rode Walkin Tall taking second in the round with 85 points. This bull went to the right away from Junior’s hand. He had some good kick which set Souza up for a good score. The round number one winners were Chase Dougherty and my good buddy Daniel Keeping. Daniel rode Smoothie for 86 points. This big red bull came out backwards and went into Dan’s hand which set Mr. Keeping up for the tie to win the round. Chase’s bull came out spinning into his hand giving him enough to tie for the round win. In the championship round there were only two qualified rides. The first was Vinell Mariano who rode Kojack for 86.50 points. This was one of my favorite rides simply because this guy gave it his all. Vanell was bucked off so many times but somehow Humps-Horns.com · 7 · August 2021

Julia Ann Woods Nov. 9, 1944 - July 2, 2021
Julia Ann Woods, 76, of Baker City, died July 2, 2021, in Baker City. Oregon. A celebration of her life took place Saturday, July 10 at 2 p.m. at the Eagle Valley Grange in Richland, Oregon. Julia was born on Nov. 9, 1944, at Baker City. She was raised in Richland and received her education at both Richland Elementary and Eagle Valley High School, where she graduated in 1962. When still in high school she asked Dean Woods to the prom, and he said yes. This fateful date later led him to ask her to be his wife. They were married on Sept. 1, 1962. Julia worked as the Baker County Clerk for 18 years until she retired. She and Dean then became snowbirds. They lived in Baker City during the summer and Mesa, Arizona, during the winter. In between, they traveled as much as possible. Julia took up square dancing in 1972. She was a member of the Elkhorn Swingers Square Dance Club and danced as often as she could. Julia enjoyed reading, sewing, and most of all making quilts for her grandkids and great-grandkids. She loved her family, anything purple, roses, the season fall and was a Yankees baseball fan. She was also a dedicated and loyal PBR (Professional Bull Riders) patron. She attended over 400 PBR events including over 20 PBR World Finals and 33 National Finals Rodeos in Las Vegas. Julia liked to play card games. However, if she didn’t like the hand she was dealt, she was known to say, “Oh sugar foot.” She could also give you some fiery looks when ticked off. Julia lived an active life attending several events a week for many years. Her husband
once asked her if she wanted to slow down and do less. She replied, “No, I want to do more.” PBR Commissioner, Sean Gleason, wrote, “Julia will be sadly missed at that [PBRewards] booth, on the concourses, in the grandstands, in our host hotel lobbies chatting with riders, stock contractors and staff, and everywhere at our events. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dean and the entire Woods family at this time of great loss. We will be leaving a seat empty at PBR World Finals this November in Las Vegas in memory of our great friend Julia Woods.” Julia is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dean Woods; her children, Lori (Carl) Morgan of Terrebonne, and Darin Woods of Nampa, Idaho; her brother, Bill (Marti) Gover; her sister, Nancy Gover; her grandchildren, Jacob and Jordan Meeks, Lindsay (Jeremiah) Shine, Shelby (Cody) Henigman, and Haley Woods; her great-grandchildren, Ellis and Evelynn Shine, and Emerson Woods and Leo Henigman; and several nieces and nephews. She loved her PBR family, the cowboys and the lifelong friends that they made.

Outside the Arena with...
Aubrey O’Quin By Georgia Akers
When I joined the Board of the Rider Relief fund, now known as Western Sports Foundation, I met Aubrey O’Quinn. She was the Fund Development Coordinator. That is what her title said but she was so much more. She was the one who got me set up with all the materials I needed as a new board member and answered my questions. For the past several years of working with Aubrey, I have been impressed with her energy, dedication and professional manner. Her job is not an easy one. She has one supervisor who is our Board President but then her position requires her to have minibosses who need her assistance: the Treasurer when he needs monthly accounting figures; the Secretary when she needs the minutes of the last board meeting reviewed; the Vice-President when he needs information regarding sponsors and fund raisers and me-we work on contracts together-revising, drafting and on the licensing of our charity throughout the United States (In order to fund raise, many states require a registration process).
She juggles sponsors, volunteers and riders. She plans events such as our clay shoot in Vegas, silent auctions, and live auctions. She arranges for volunteers to be present at many of the PBR events to be at our table to tell people about our charity. She plans the volunteer appreciation event and the donor appreciation event. All with a calmness and demeanor that is truly amazing. And she has two children under the age of five. Employers dream of having someone like Aubrey. We are fortunate to have her. Tell us a little about your background. I was born and raised in Denver, CO and have 6 sisters, 3 brothers, 8 nephews and 4 nieces. I received a Bachelor’s of Science in Health and Exercise Science from Colorado State University. Before joining RRF/WSF I worked for Kiewit Construction as an ERP Deployment Support Specialist and Executive Assistant. My background in the medical field started when I worked as an Exercise Physiologist for a Cardiac Rehab Center and as a Certified Nurse’s Aide at Rose Medical Center. I have also worked as an Office Manager at a Pain Management Clinic.

How did you become involved with Rider Relief, now known as Western Sports Foundation? I was relocating to Pueblo, CO from Denver and applied for the Fund Development Coordinator position with RRF. You have seen many changes in services and clients. Tell us about what was there originally and the changes. Over the last five years there have been several changes to the RRF/WSF. When I first started, RRF provided financial assistance to Bull Riders and Bull Fighters injured in the sport of bull riding. One of the really unique services offered was assisting with medical bill expenses. We have some very talented board members that worked very hard at negotiating the bills down and then we would cover those costs. In May of 2016, RRF started to explore expanding our services and the athletes we assist. We decided to focus on providing five areas of wellness which include mental, physical and financial wellness, life skills and career and education and we expanded our reach to all western sports athletes. In February 2018, we launched Western Sports Foundation and started offering our new services. We have been very lucky to work with a great group of providers, from a sports neurologist, crisis manager, financial adviser and education and career mentors.
What do you do for the organization? I started as the Fund Development Coordinator, then became the Operations Manager and was recently promoted to the Director of Programs and Operations. I am responsible for managing our programs, working with our providers, developing new programs, organize and develop all program training and I handle all the case management and interactions with the athletes. I also organize and execute all of our special fund raising events, manage all of our back office functions and oversee our volunteer program. How do you organize various fund raising activities? Typically it starts with identifying the location/market we are going to do the fund raising event, then I start to see what other events might be going on during the same time and then looking to see what types of events have taken place in that market. From there I start reaching out to local vendors to secure a location, food and beverage (if needed), and any other necessary items needed for the event. I then organize a sponsorship packet and start reaching out to potential sponsors to see if they would be willing to support our event and sponsor it. I then send out invites or other info to potential participants and work to secure giveaways, prizes and or auction items.
Humps-Horns.com · 11 · August 2021
How do you come up with the ideas for fund raising activities? I usually look at the markets we have identified to do a special event, then do some research to see what types of events have taken place in that market and what has been successful. I also work closely with the Board of Directors to identify other potential fund raising events. When an injured rider contacts you, what is the procedure to get assistance? The first step is to identify the severity of the athlete’s needs (if they need immediate attention then I take the proper action to get them taken care of), if they need to speak to or see our providers then I reach out immediately and start working on getting their treatment lined up. I then send them an assistance application and ask for them to fill it out and send it back to me. Once I receive the application back, I process the application, present to the Board, and start working with the athlete and providers to manage the case and make sure they receive the care or financial assistance for which they applied. What is the attitude of the riders? Initially, I think the athletes are hesitant to use WSF and our services because they feel like someone else needs it more and they don’t want to take away from anyone else. But once I am able to explain to the athlete or their spouse that this is what we are here for and we raise the funds that we do to be able to assist
them, all of them they typically apply for assistance. Once they receive our assistance they are always so appreciative and grateful for the financial assistance but also for the other assistance they receive. We have had riders thank us for giving them the ability to have cognitive testing done, help with counseling, financial planning and career planning. What is the nicest part of your job? The best part of my job is the relationships I have developed with the athletes and their families and knowing that I am making difference and helping someone. I am so passionate about helping these athletes, developing new programs for them and their families and knowing that I have been able to positively affect someone’s life and help them not only today but tomorrow and for years to come. What is the hardest part of your job? Seeing these guys get hurt. These athletes and their families become friends and family so when you see one of them get hurt it is like seeing your brother get hurt Where do you see the organization going in the next five years? I hope to see WSF helping all western lifestyle athletes and continuing to expand our programs to encompass more and more services and have even more specialized providers. What are you most excited about with the new programs? I am most excited to offer the financial planning and the career and education. I really think that being able to offer services to assist these guys for the long term and to start planning ahead is going to have the most impact to both the athletes and their families. What are some of the new services you hope to launch in the next year? This next year I would really like to expand to offering a nutritionist, sports psychologists, public speaking, family planning and more. Who are the most important people in your life? My family: Nick, Olivia, Charlotte and Molly. My husband, Nick, who is a very special man. My job requires traveling and he is always there to take on the role of both mom and dad while I am away. Our two daughters Olivia and Charlotte and our puppy Molly: I am a very fortunate lady!

Inspiration Point by Keno Shrum
America the Beautiful? I often look at America with amazement at where we have come from and where we are now. Eric Lyons summed up America the Beautiful very well in an article he wrote for Apologetics Press. I’d like to share that article with you. This article was originally published at www.apologeticspress.org If you would like to visit more about this or any other topic, then please, “Come now, and let us reason together...” (Isaiah 1:18) In His Love, Keno America the Beautiful? by Eric Lyons, M.Min. Have you ever walked the white, sandy beaches of Florida or hiked the hills of Tennessee? Have you stood at the base of a giant California Redwood or sat atop the Rocky Mountains overlooking the Great Plains? “From sea to shining sea,” the United States of America is a beautiful country. As Katharine Bates wrote in the latter part of the 19th century, “God shed his grace” on this country of “spacious skies…amber waves of grain…purple mountain majesties” and “fruited plains.” Few countries can claim so many diverse, splendid sights as America. Physically speaking, America is “the beautiful”! (How anyone can live in this blessed country and maintain “there is no God,” is mindboggling). Spiritually speaking, however, America has lost its moral compass. In reality, it is a filthy, ungodly nation. Instead of printing and disseminating Bibles (as did our Founding Fathers), which inform children that they are made in the image of God (Genesis 1:2627), we print millions of taxpayer-funded textbooks that tell young people they came from slime. Instead of abhorring and detesting the sin of homosexuality (as did our first Commander in Chief [“George…,” 1778] and as does God [Genesis 19; Romans 1:24-32]), our current President embraces the perversion of homosexuality. Instead of hating the shedding of innocent blood (Proverbs 6:17), many millions of Americans elect representatives who support the murder of innocent, unborn children.
Oh, but do not think that evolution, homosexuality, and abortion are the only spiritual diseases infecting this country. Rather than acknowledge fornication, adultery, and impurity as sin (Galatians 5:19-21; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10), most Americans, including many so-called Christians, embrace these actions as normal, fun, and innocent. Evil entertainment is more prolific and easily accessible than ever in our country’s history. The number one downloaded song on iTunes only a few weeks ago was Brittany Spears’ latest hit titled simply “3.” What is “3”? Only a song about “gettin’ down with 3P” (i.e., three people having sexual relations together at the same time). This former number one song glamorizes sin from beginning to end. Twice in the song Spears specifically mocks that which the Bible says separates man from God (Isaiah 59:1-2), saying, “Livin’ in sin is the new thing (yeah).” How many people in this “Christian nation” are walking around singing this song? How many “Christians” currently have this song on their iPod? [NOTE: I spoke with a small group of Christian teens recently, one of whom admitted to having already downloaded this song on her cell phone.] How is it that a television series largely about single women’s sexual escapades (Sex and the City) gets nominated for 50 Emmy Awards (winning seven times) during its six seasons on television? Why are songs, television shows, and movies (e.g., The 40-Year-Old Virgin) that mock purity and celebrate sin so popular? Why is the fruit of the Spirit (faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, etc.) continually ridiculed, while the works of the flesh (sexual immorality, impurity, debauchery, etc.) are constantly paraded as acceptable lifestyles of “good people”? Because most Americans, even many “Christian” Americans, have forgotten God and grown accustomed to calling “evil good, and good evil” (Isaiah 5:20). Righteousness is ridiculed regularly, while sin is celebrated incessantly. America most certainly was founded by men who professed faith in God, read the Scriptures regularly, and made many proclamations and policies that closely mirrored biblical teachings (see Miller, 2008). America was not founded by Muslims, Hindus, or Buddhists. Our Founding Fathers claimed to be Christians, and believed that the God of the Bible was instrumental in the establishment of this nation. At one time in our country’s history, atheism, homosexuality, adultery, lewdness, etc. were considered repulsive and rarely celebrated publicly. Today, however, America is far from being a “Christian nation.” We live in a physically beautiful, Godgiven country which, sadly, is filled with ungrateful, ungodly nonbelievers and hypocritical “Christians.” May God help the faithful children of God (1) to keep “unspotted from the world” (James 1:27), while (2) reflecting the light of Jesus Christ to a sin-stained country in need of a great spiritual awakening. “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34). “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter” (Isaiah 5:20).

Dustin Boquet By Terry Blake
Dustin Boquet is a dyed in the wool Cajun who hails from Southern Louisiana. He loves hunting, fishing, and anything else that gives him an opportunity to be in the great outdoors. Boquet is also a really good bull rider who has made quite name for himself in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). Although Boquet is originally from Bourg, Louisiana, he has
made his home in Athens, Texas for almost five years. The move to Athens has made it much easier to travel back and forth to rodeos as it is centrally located in the US and only about an hour or so from the two major airports in the Dallas / Fort Worth metroplex. Dustin grew up around horses and he spent a lot of time riding them with his dad and his grandpa as a child. He did not begin riding steers, however, until he was twelve years old and a buddy from school talked him into giving it a try. Boquet went on to ride three out of four steers in a local buckle series and won his first buckle. Needless to say, he thought that was the coolest thing in the world and has been hooked ever since. Boquet was involved in other sports and played baseball until he reached high school. At that point his parents told him he had to choose one or the other because they couldn’t afford to keep doing both. He chose the bulls! Boquet rode in several regional associations including the Professional Cowboys Association and the Cajun Rodeo Association where he honed his skills until he joined the PRCA in 2013. Riding and competing in these rodeos gave Dustin the confidence to see that he could ride and win and also a chance to learn how to enter rodeos, travel, and how to make it work as a professional bull rider. Dustin is grateful for the opportunities he had to ride and also for the mentors who helped him develop and mature as a bull rider. One man, in particular, who played a great role in Dustin’s career was Sheldon Price. Dustin used to go to Price’s house and would have bulls gathered and sorted in pens before Sheldon got off work so they could start bucking as soon as he got home. They did this a couple of times each week over the course of several months. In Boquet’s opinion, this was one of the greatest factors that helped him progress in his ability to ride bulls. When we asked if Dustin has any favorite rodeos where he likes to compete he mentioned the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo and their Xtreme Bulls event because he has done really well there ever since his first year. He also said that he likes the Pendleton Roundup because of the unique grass field inside the arena. Last but certainly not least, was the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo simply because it is “The Daddy of ‘Em All”!
and good for their own reasons. Texas being that they worked Boquet has qualified for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo to pull off an event such as the National Finals Rodeo within a on two occasions. The first came in 2018 where the NFR rookie 90-100 day time frame was very impressive. had a solid showing and won Round 6 and placed in three rounds to finish the year 7th in the PRCA World Standings. Boquet went on to say that when you think of the NFR, you In 2019, Dustin dealt with some injuries and was sidelined just think of Vegas. The bright lights, the history, the close for a good part of the season and was not able to qualify for proximity of the fans inside the Thomas & Mack Center make the NFR. However, in the crazy year we know as 2020, Boquet it a really great place to compete. made the cut for his second National Finals Rodeo hich was held in Arlington, Texas due to the Covid restrictions in Vegas. Dustin is certainly no stranger to bright lights and pressure situations. In the 2021 RFD-TV’s The American Rodeo, he Since Dustin has experienced the NFR in Vegas and Texas, we qualified for the final shootout round of four. As the first man asked which one he preferred. He said that each was special out of the chutes, Boquet knocked one down for eight seconds and rode Frontier Rodeo’s bull, Magic Trick, for 87 points. Although 87 points is a great score, his ride was surpasseds by two other men that day and finished in 3rd place which still was worth a check for $10,000. When Dustin was asked if he has any favorite bulls that he has faced he said that he doesn’t really have any favorites. From his point of view, he just likes all the good ones that buck. However, there are a couple that he would like to ride but has not had the opportunity yet. Chiseled is one that he would like to face and another one of D&H Cattle Co. was SweetPro’s Bruiser. Boquet had drawn Bruiser at one point but then Bruiser had some health issues and was not able to buck that day. Boquet goes to work at the Championship Bull Riding (CBR) event in Laughlin, NV. Boquet usually has a good run at the larger winter rodeos and 2021 was no different. He won the San Antonio Xtreme Bulls and also the Enid Ultimate Challenge Xtreme Bulls. The goal is always to keep the momentum going through the spring and summer and then into the fall. Although he has had a rough stretch so far this summer, there is still plenty of time for a strong finish in the 2021 season and a push to stay on track for his 3rd Wrangler NFR qualification.

With the payouts up for grabs at the NFR, any of the top 15 who make it to Vegas have a legitimate shot at a world championship. Dustin says that it comes down to whoever shows up and wants to ride all ten, gets to walk away with the gold buckle. “If you don’t have a gold buckle on your mind, I don’t know what the heck you’re even riding bulls for.” At the end of the day, Boquet’s advice is pretty simple. Keep riding your bulls and let the chips fall where they may. Humps N Horns wishes Dustin the best as he continues his journey towards that gold buckle. Humps-Horns.com · 18 · August 2021
By Kelly B. Robbins
Bull riding has always been one of the most popular events in rodeo. Great Frontier Bull Riding Company of Maynard, Minnesota is proof that bull riding is alive and thriving today in America. Alan and Jenn Kattevold, and their son, Miles, have been producing “dirt kickin’ wicked good bull riding” events throughout the midwest for over 20 years. “We are bull riding event producers,” Jenn explained. “When we are hired for an event, we bring everything. We have two portable arenas, and we bring all the equipment and personnel to put on a successful bull riding event. We lease all the bucking bulls from Troy Meech and Meech Bucking Bulls out of Nimrod, Minnesota. He hauls and flanks all the bulls he brings to our events. All of our equipment is trucked in.” “We have been extremely fortunate to have an amazing group of people work for us,” Jenn continued. “We have a great crew of people that we can rely on to help set up and tear down. Everyone has very defined roles. When everyone knows their role, it all comes together smoothly. This has developed into a very well-oiled machine!” “All of our events are sanctioned by the National Federation of Professional Bull Riders,” Alan shared. “We were named Producer of the Year in 2013, 2017, 2018, and 2019. We are hired by county fairs and community event coordinators and produce about 14 events each summer. Last year all our events were cancelled due to the Covid pandemic. But this year we have a full schedule.”
Alan has been around rodeo and bull riding his whole life. “Since I was young, I’ve either been bull riding or working for someone who put on events,” Alan divulged. “When you are around this business, and start getting older, your body starts asking you ‘Now what’? Then you start looking for how you can stay in the business. We decided to give it a go and started producing bull riding events on our own.” “Great Frontier Bull Riding Company was started in 2000,” Jenn shared. “Alan is from Minnesota, which is in the PRCA Great Lakes Circuit. I am from Maine, which is in the PRCA First Frontier Circuit. So, we “married” parts of the two regional names and created Great Frontier Bull Riding Company. We also created our slogan, ‘Dirt kickin’ wicked good bull riding’ using the famous Maine word wicked, that defines a Mainer. Our first event was in Edgerton, Minnesota at the Edgerton Dutch Festival.” “We advertise ahead of an event,” Alan disclosed. “The bull riding contestants will call in and sign up. We close the registration two weeks prior to the event. That determines the number of bulls the stock contractor will have to provide. We pay attention to what bull riding events may be going on close by on the same day, because this can impact how many bull riders we have at an event. More added money will draw more bull riders. The committees that hire us establish the purse. The pay-out is then structured by the sanctioning organization.” “We actually brought Great Frontier Bull Riding Company

to Maine,” Jenn offered. “We did a huge mass mailing to the fairs in Maine, and we got invited to produce an event at the Oxford County Fair in 2005. We then produced the bull riding event at that fair for six years.” The Kattevold family lives on a 50-acre farm outside of Maynard, Minnesota. Miles is the sixth generation Kattevold to live there. They raise livestock, which includes 200-300 head of sheep. Alan is a supervisor at a local manufacturing facility. Jenn is the compliance officer at a local bank. Miles is a diesel mechanic and the head wrestling coach at a local school. Miles has run his own events since he was 16 years old. “Miles helps put on events,” Jenn said. “With two portable arenas, we can produce two separate events on the same day. When he was younger, we were not sure what direction Miles would want to go. He chose to work with us. Knowing that Miles was on board and running his own shows at 16 years old was huge.”
L to R - Miles, Jenn, and Alan Kattevold
“When we produce an event, we have a Pro division and a Rookie division,” Alan stated. “The bull riders in the Pro division are all National Federation of Professional Bullriders card holders and compete for the event purse. We started the Rookie division and Great Frontier Bull Riding Company puts up the purse for the Rookie division. The purpose of the Rookie division is to give young bull riders a chance to ride a bull they can actually stay on long enough to learn the proper basics of good bull riding. We have the stock contractor bring a few rookie caliber bulls to each event.” “It’s like one big family,” Alan added. “The veteran riders are able to help the rookies learn how to ride. They give them pointers and interact with them. This is great for the rookies. They get to be around their heroes and learn from them. This all works together to make sure we have bull riders for the future. We love to be a steppingstone for riders to go to the next level.” “We have seen a lot in 20 years,” Alan concluded. “One of the things I cherish the most is the people we have met. We’ve Humps-Horns.com · 20 · August 2021
seen a lot of cowboys, bull fighters, and announcers move on to the next levels. Many of the bull riders have ended up at the NFR or the PBR.” I asked what the future holds for Great Frontier Bull Riding Company. Miles offered, “We will continue to put on events as long as we enjoy it!”

Western Wanderings a cowboy’s canteen A cowboy’s canteen is a versatile tool It helps to keep him alive Mine is tin and covered with leather About two and a half quarts in size When I stop at a stream to fill that thing up I make sure the leather gets wet That keeps water cool in that old canteen For several hours I’d bet When you’re out on the trail and the water is scarce That canteen is the best thing you’ve got You can drink when you’re thirsty, and water your horse And stay somewhat cool when it’s hot My canteen hangs on my saddle horn A strong leather strap does the job The leather is well worn and broke in good I replaced the first cork with a cob I’ve had my canteen for a dozen years It was bought at the general store In Fort Worth on my very first cattle drive I reckon I’ll keep it some more
