Letter from the Editor Season’s Greetings! I hope this issue of Humps N Horns finds all going well for you and your family. This is always a favorite time of the year for me. The holidays are a time when I enjoy being able to relax and spend time with friends and family that we may not be able to see on a regular basis. I know it can also be a stressful time with all the extra activities that can make it a challenge to spend time with the ones you love the most. I hope that you are able to make the most of this time of year when we celebrate Jesus’ birth. As far bull riding goes, what a time we had with the PBR World Finals in Las Vegas. Congratulations to Kaique Pacheco as the 2018 PBR World Champion. I don’t think anyone expected the race to be as close as it was until Pacheco injured his knee and groin in the Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour Finals. Kudos to Pacheco for battling through the pain and etching his name in the history books. We also want to send our congratulations to the D&H Cattle Co. on another World Champion Bull title for SweetPro’s Bruiser. It certainly takes a special animal to continue to perform at such a high level for an extended period of time.

There were many others who performed well in the face of adversity throughout the week in Vegas. I think there are a lot more Chase Outlaw fans than before after watching him return from so many devastating injuries to even qualify for the World Finals and then to win the Velocity Tour Finals event championship and ride 5 out of 6 bulls at the Unleash the Beast Tour Finals at T-Mobile Arena. We have some great articles in this issue to give more details on the PBR Finals week. We hope you enjoy! Until next time, Terry

round. Marco Eguchi won the PBR World Finals even though he got a concussion and bucked off his last bull. Kaique Pacheco won PBR World Championship with a torn MCL and PCL. This year I think I have seen a lot of bull riders fighting through injuries but it just goes to show that the bulls are getting ranker and the cowboys got to be tougher. Hi my name is Brayden Hollywood Brown and I am a miniature bull rider. Today I’m going to talk about the PBR World Finals. We will talk about the winners for the go rounds, the top bull, and who took home the trophy. So let’s get into it. At the PBR World Finals, I was cheering for Keyshawn Whitehorse for Rookie of the Year. He didn’t have the World Finals he would have wanted but in the end he came out on top to win PBR Rookie of the Year. Matt Triplett won round number one on Little Tucker with a score of 89.25 points but I’m a little on the fence about it though because Chase Outlaw had a pretty rank bull too. I feel like Chase’s bull spun a little flat footed but Chase stayed in control and spurred the tar out of him. Matt’s bull spun really fast and kicked pretty high but Matt didn’t spur. Chase Outlaw scored 88.5, but I think the scores at least should have been a little closer.

Chad Berger won Stock Contractor of the Year award for the eighth time. Bulls Legit and Hocus Pocus tied for the PBR World Finals top score. Smooth Operator barely lost the PBR Bull World Championship, but Sweet Pros Bruiser was better. Bruiser won the PBR World Championship Bull award for the third time in a row. Thank you for reading I look forward to writing to you each month. Thank you, Brayden Hollywood Brown

In round number two Marco Eguchi won riding Spotted Demon for 94 points. In round three Marco Eguchi and Derek Kolbaba tied to win the round. Eguchi rode Stuntman Ray and Kolbaba rode Biker Bob. Cody Teel won round number 4 of the PBR World Finals on Medicine Man for 90.25 points. Jose Vitor Leme rode Sweet Pros Bruiser for 93.50 to win the championship Matt Triplett wins round 1 on Little Tucker (Patterson / Halpain) with an 89.25 point ride. Strategy In Your Bull Riding I don’t care who you are or what you say, my era of professional bull riders did not learn to ride rank bulls by being exposed to a high number of rank bulls at a young age. Believe it or not bull riding is like any other sport when it comes to training the youth up to greatness at the professional level. Low caliber bulls give riders during their developmental years a chance to implement things they learn without the danger level being so great that if they make a mistake they will pay for it with their health. Anyone that you’ve heard of in the world of professional bull riding will tell you that they learned more in the developmental stage by riding lower level bulls. Being exposed to rank bulls must be done with some strategy. Dominating at each level is very important in developing a solid career. Rank bulls are fine in moderation but not every crack out of the gate even after a guy has had some success on rank ones he should still practice on a lot of low level bulls. Staying honest to the fundamentals of bull riding is very important but is best done on low level bulls.

If you will go at bull riding with some strategy to dominate and patience in advancement at each level you will give yourself the best chance to become a real bull rider at the highest levels of bull riding. Don’t just follow the crowd because there is a bus load of talented guys headed over the cliff created by the bornto-buck world, never to be heard of in the world of pro bull riding. Some parents, leaders of some youth associations and some bull guys are the ones driving the bus headed toward the cliff. Have a bit of strategy people. Jesus Loves You. Cody Custer

My generation of guys was able to get on a lot of low level bulls even in competition. The bulls used at rodeos and bull ridings back then were a bunch of low level bulls with a few that could be considered buckers and even fewer that were rank. In the world of bull riding today because of the large number of high quality bulls a guy must seek out low level bulls to help the “between the ears” part of our sport.

fibers. The principle composition of this matrix is made up of water, collagen and proteoglycans. In the rebuilding of cartilage at the joints, it is important for the body to be able to produce enough collagen.

How to Eat to Rebuild Cartilage in Joints

Cartilage serves a number of different functions in the body. For the joints, it acts as a pad to reduce friction and prevent damage. Over time, cartilage can be damaged and deteriorate. When this occurs, the bones no longer have the protection that they need at the joint, and it can result in pain, inflammation and a lack of mobility. A lack of cartilage at a joint will result in osteoarthritis. This condition can affect any joint, but it is especially common in the knees, hips, wrists, and elbows. To address conditions surrounding cartilage injury and deterioration, doctors may offer a number of solutions. They might recommend pain management strategies, supplements, physical therapy, and in severe cases, they might recommend surgery. In addressing cartilage loss or damage, the body needs to be able to rebuild the tissue structures at the joint. To do this, you will need to have the right nutrients in your diet. To produce the fibers that make up cartilage, you need to ensure that you have a balanced diet that provides all of the necessary nutrients for building the tissue fibers in cartilage. For people that suffer from the pain that comes with cartilage loss, there are a number of foods that can be used to help your body rebuild the cartilage at joints. The Importance of Collagen In the body, you have different types of cartilage. The type of cartilage found in the joints is hyaline cartilage. Unlike most other tissue structures in the body, cartilage does not have blood vessels or nerves. The articular cartilage of the joints is made from a matrix of

Collagen is one of the most common proteins in the body. It is made up of amino acids like glycine and proline. For the body to produce the collagen needed to repair joints, the individual will have to consume the nutrients that are needed for the production of these amino acids. While supplements can help to provide some of the nutrients that you will need, getting them through your regular diet can be beneficial. Nutrients that can help the body to rebuild cartilage include vitamin C, Vitamin B3, Copper, Iron and vitamin A. The following information will cover each of these nutrients indepth. Vitamin C Ascorbic acid, more commonly known as “vitamin C”, is one of the most important nutrients for human health. As an antioxidant, vitamin C helps the body to combat the effects of free radicals, and it is one of the key nutrients for the repair and growth of tissue throughout the body. Vitamin C plays an important role in the production of collagen, so it is important to ensure that you are meeting your daily requirements for this nutrient. While it is rare for a person to experience a severe vitamin C deficiency, many people do not get enough in their regular diet. If you are trying to rebuild the cartilage at your joints, even a minimal deficiency can make a difference. In getting enough nutrients for joint repair, vitamin C should be one of the easiest for which the individual can find sources. You have all of your citrus fruits like oranges and lemons, and you can get vitamin C from broccoli, snow peas, cabbage, potatoes,

Humps-Horns.com · 11 · December 2018

guava, papaya, and strawberries. This list is just a beginning; there are several foods that can be a good source of vitamin C. The important point to consider is your daily recommended intake. For adult males, it is 90mg of vitamin C per day, and for adult females, it is 75mg. Vitamin B3 Vitamin B3, also known as Niacin, is a nutrient that can help with the repair of cartilage. Typically, vitamin B3 is associated with the role that it plays in the digestive system, helping the body to breakdown fats and proteins, but it also assists in the production of collagen. In the developed world, serious niacin deficiencies are rare. Niacin deficiency is often associated with alcoholism, and it can lead to a number of side effects. However, with the role that it plays in the production of collagen, even a slight deficiency can hinder the healing process. Most doctors would not recommend a niacin supplement. This is especially true for people that have problems with the liver. If you are looking for natural sources of vitamin B3 that you can introduce into your diet, you could try liver, mushrooms, tuna, salmon, mackerel, bran, oatmeal, and squash. When increasing your uptake of vitamin B, you want to be careful not to get too much. The recommended daily intake for this nutrient is 16mg for adult males and 14mg for females. A person should try to stay below 35mg of niacin per day. Any more than this can cause health problems. Copper Copper plays a vital role in the production of red blood cells. In addition to assisting with the production of red blood cells, it is also important for the health of the immune system, as well as the body’s ability to control inflammation. Copper also helps in the production of collagen and shows promise for the treatment of arthritis and the rehabilitation of joint injuries. Not only does copper assist in the regeneration of tissue in the joint area, but it also allows the cartilage structures to rebuild more efficiently since it helps the body control inflammation. If you want to introduce more copper to your diet, you could try shellfish, potatoes, whole grains, prunes, leafy greens, and liver. For both adult males and females, the recommended daily intake for copper is about 2mg. Adults should not exceed 10mg of copper as their daily intake.

Iron Iron is one of the most important minerals for human health. Along with copper, iron helps with the production of red blood cells and it is a key factor in the body’s ability to transport oxygen through the circulatory system. Iron is also one of the necessary components in the production of collagen in the body. Iron deficiencies and iron overload are some of the most common health problems. The body needs iron for a number of processes, but an overload can cause health problems. Getting enough iron is important for cartilage regeneration, but an overload can cause joint problems. As a person that is looking to increase their iron intake, there are a number of foods that can act as a great source of dietary iron. Among the best sources of iron, you will find liver, shellfish, and spinach. For additional sources of iron, you could try oats, prunes, lima beans, and yogurt. For iron, the recommended daily intake is 8mg for adult males and 18mg for adult females. The maximum daily intake for all adults should be below 45mg, and for women over 50, the recommended daily intake drops to 8mg. Vitamin A When most people think of vitamin A, they think of the importance that it has for their vision. While this is one of the key benefits of vitamin A, it also plays an important role in stimulating the growth of cell structures throughout the body. Studies have also shown that vitamin A can assist with the production of cartilage. With the role that vitamin A plays in the production of cartilage, anyone who is trying to rebuild joint cartilage needs to make sure that they are getting enough. For adult men, the recommended daily intake for vitamin A is 900 micrograms per day. For women, the recommended intake is 700 micrograms per day. For both men and women, the daily intake of vitamin A should not exceed 3000 micrograms per day. If you are looking for foods that are good sources of vitamin A, you will primarily look to vegetables. Among the best sources of this nutrient, you have sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, liver, fish, and squash. Published by Real Time Pain Relief. eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them’” (Matt. 13:14-15).

by Keno Shrum

Stubborn as a Mule All of us have heard the phrase, “stubborn as a mule.” This term was probably coined by frustrated farmers after they observed how difficult it was to get their donkeys to pull their assigned loads in the field…although a case could be made that the phrase was thought up as an observation made by frustrated spouses about their significant others. (I say that because I know what my wife’s answer to the above question would be!) Regardless, I think there’s a lesson we can learn about our relationship with Christ when we examine exactly why a mule is stubborn. Are you stubborn? The reason a mule balks at pulling a load is not because he doesn’t hear the command “giddy up.” Rather, he would simply not hear it. He has more than enough strength and ability to pull that load, but he would rather graze in the green grass of the pasture or bask in the noonday sun than work for his owner. Our human minds are several levels above that of a mule, but we sometimes manifest the same characteristics. How many times have we heard a clear command from God as revealed in his Word, but we, like the mule, try to evade obedience because the biblical command does not coincide with our mind’s individual prejudices and desires? When I was a child, I was reluctant to hear my mother’s call because I knew that if I listened and obeyed her it would result in some unpleasant chore that would encroach upon my playtime. That’s why I chose not to see my dirty hands and ignore her command to wash them, because I would have rather been eating. This kind of evasive thinking is found in the minds of mules and children, but it should never be found in the thinking of mature, responsible adults (1 Cor. 13:11). Yet, while the eternal destiny of souls are at stake, there are professed Christians who exhibit indifference and intolerance toward the true teachings of God as revealed in the totality of the Bible. They do so because such teachings are contrary to their personal desires or disrupt their convenient, worldly way of life. Jesus talked about such people when he quoted Isaiah by saying, “Indeed, in their case the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled that says, ‘You will indeed hear but never understand, and you will indeed see but never perceive. For this people’s heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their

What a pity it is for people who could (and should) know God’s truth which is his Word (John 17:17), but reject it because it does not suit their evil lifestyles or tastes. For example, God commanded that men have faith (John 3:16; Rom. 10:9-10), repent of their sins (Luke 13:3; Acts 2:38; 3:19), and be baptized – literally in the Greek, immersed – in water in order to obtain salvation and forgiveness of sins (Mark 16:16; 1 Pet. 3:21; Acts 2:38), and to be put into Christ and his body, the church of Christ, by the Holy Spirit through baptism (1 Cor. 12:13; Rom. 6:3-4; Gal. 3:26-27; cf. Eph. 1:22-23). How sad it is for such commands to be rejected simply because it violates the wishes of family (Matt. 10:34-37) or the traditions and doctrine of religious groups (Matt. 15:1-9) who are seeking after the god of convenience rather than the God which demands obedience (1 Sam. 15:22; Acts 5:29; Heb. 5:8-9). Closer to home, let’s examine ourselves and our own attitudes (2 Cor. 13:5). Does our stubbornness keep us from treating others as we would be treated (Matt. 7:12)? Husbands and wives, are we so determined to have our own way that we end up treating our spouses in ways contrary to the will of the One who united us in marriage (Eph. 5:22- 33; 1 Cor. 7:1-5; 1 Pet. 3:1-7; cf. Matt. 19:1-9)? Parents, is your adamant refusal to put the spiritual raising of your children before unneeded work, TV time, your golf game and favorite book due to stubbornness (Eph. 6:4; Deut. 6:6-9)? Brother and sister in Christ, does your constant criticism and backbiting against the bishops of your local congregation come from being stubbornly adamant to have your own way above all (Heb. 13:17)? Let’s ask ourselves whether we have the mind of a mule or the mind of Christ. Read God’s will below, and think about it… So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. — Philippians 2:1-8 If you’d like to visit more about the mind of Christ, “Come now and let us reason together...” (Isaiah 1:18) In His Love, Keno Shrum Via churchofchristarticles.com

Outside the Arena with...

PBR World Finals By Georgia Akers

Today I returned from the PBR Finals. This is my 13th year, I think. My column is called “Outside the Arena” and I thought of no better way than presenting a photographic display of all the activities that are happening outside of the big arena. On the airplane ride home, I sat next to a lady who attended for the first time. We visited (my husband would tell you I like to visit and learn about people) and she was not aware of all that goes on. As we were departing, she thanked me for making her aware as she hopes to come back next year. So before you look at all the photos, I thought I would give you the outside the arena activities, many of which are free or have a nominal cost. There are two main hotels. The MGM Park which is across the street from T Mobile Arena where the World Finals take place. This is the hotel where the riders and many fans stay. It is very convenient because no cab is necessary. The other hotel is the South Point. It is south of the main part of the Las Vegas strip. This is where the stock contractors, the bulls and many of the behind the scene workers stay. This hotel has an arena and is perfect for the other competitions that start the weekend before and go on all week. The arena is small and the setting more intimate and close up.

Some of the activities that happen at South Point are: The Velocity Tour has their finals the weekend prior. Many of the PBR riders that you know compete as well as those that are trying to make the big time. There is the Chris Shivers Miniature Bull Riding Finals. This is a three day event that is going on during the day with the PBR Finals going on at night. These are the cute little miniature bulls and the young riders that want to eventually be a JB Mauney (he seems to be the favorite) or some other superstar. They have three classes of competition depending on the age of the rider. I love watching these young men and there was a young woman competing too. There is also competition for the bulls. I know if you have been to an event or watch on TV you have heard about the Classic competition which is for your three year old bulls. But during this week at South Point, there is a competition for yearlings and a futurity for two year olds (I have to brag-my bull came in third out of 58. Cord and Sara McCoy were first and HD Page second). This year they also had a bucking horse competition and goat roping for those 18 and under. They have bull housing tours where one of the stock contractors will take you around so you can get up close and personal with the bucking bulls and ask all the questions you have wanted to know about our bovine athletes. All covet this but few achieve it. The buckle is sterling silver with gold overlay and diamonds.

Ladies, there is serious bling. They have the fan zone set up with vendors with jewelry, accessories and clothing. PBR has a huge booth there full of their clothing. So bring your credit card. They had an inflatable platform with a bucking machine for the young men and women to try their luck to ride the bull. Flint does a show everyday starting on Wednesday which is funny and informative. He interviews some of the well-known persons associated with the sport such as Chad Berger. The riders are there for signing autographs or in the booth of their sponsors and spending time with the fans. So you can see there is a whole lot of stuff going You know you are at the South Point when you see this cowboy, Benny Binion. on “Outside the Arena”. Enjoy the pictures. They would not have been possible without professional photographers Andy Watson of Andy Watson Photography and I have made some really great new friends over the years. People Matt Breneman of bullstockmedia.com, Jordan Hebert with ABBI I see only once a year. It is fun to see them and find out how their who got me the professional shots, and my dear sweet husband, year has been. The PBR family is some of the greatest people I Sam, who used my phone to take pictures for me as we were going have had the privilege to get to know. to events and wandering around. And with this being the December edition, I want to take this time to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, remembering that this is a special time for Christ was born, and all the best wishes for 2019.

8-time pbr stock contractor of the year Most bull riding fans were probably not surprised that the top cowboys in the PBR once again voted Chad Berger as the 2018 Stock Contactor of the Year. This is Chad’s fifth consecutive, and a record eighth title. He truly is one of the most loved and respected stock contactors of all time. Year by year, he continues to build a lasting legacy. “It makes me feel good every time,” Chad explained. “We work so hard every year. This is truly a reflection of our whole organization. My wife Sarah, my children, Rex Meier, Delbert Nuce, and all our team that work together to make this happen. This is a team effort, not just Chad Berger.”

At the time of his passing, Pearl Harbor was the number one ranked bull in the 2018 PBR World Champion Bull race, with a 46-point average bull score in the 25th PBR Unleash the Beast Series. He had a 46.25 World Champion Bull score average and was 10-0 for this season. On his last out, his bull score was 47.50. It certainly looked like Pearl Harbor was set to go head to head again with reigning bull champion SweetPro’s Bruiser for the bull title this year. Bruiser just barely beat out Pearl Harbor for the 2017 Championship.

It is obvious that Chad and his team are doing something right. He has been hauling some very good bovine athletes this year. Bulls like the 2018 PBR World Champion contender 001 Smooth Operator, 1201 Shelly’s Gangster, 125 Catfish John, 33 Living Large, 345 Rising Sun, E5 Big Black Cat, and 904 Fire and Smoke. Chad set a PBR record this year when he hauled 75 bulls to the Tacoma Invitational in Tacoma, Washington in April.

Chad was honored when Pearl Harbor was presented the Brand of Honor Award on Tuesday, November 6, at the PBR Heroes and Legends Celebration at South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa. “It was a great honor to receive that award on behalf of Pearl Harbor,” Chad shared. “He was such a great bull. That award meant so much to all of us.” During his acceptance, Chad also said he believes that two-time PBR World Champion J.B. Mauney had what may be the greatest bull ride in PBR history, when he rode Pearl Harbor for 94.5 points in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 2017.

The 2018 season has been a roller coaster of emotions for the 57-year-old stock contractor from Mandan, North Dakota. Chad

At that presentation, PBR Director of Livestock Cody Lambert said, “In the rodeo world, the greatest two bull riders that I never

saw win a world championship were Denny Flynn and Clint Branger. Pearl Harbor never won a world championship, but he is respected like Denny Flynn and Clint Branger, as one of the best and one of the all-time greats.” Pearl Harbor, who was co-owned by Clay Struve and David Currey, had a lifetime buck-off percentage of 90.16%. His all-time record was 55-6, where he averaged 45.39 points per out. He qualified for the PBR World Finals four times. Due to a scoring mistake earlier this season, it was determined right before the Finals, that Pearl Harbor was the reigning regular-season PBR Bull of the Year for 2018. That title came with a $25,000 bonus check for Chad Berger. The 2018 PBR World Finals has been an exciting time for Chad and company. Their superstar bovine 001 Smooth Operator was in second place behind D&H Cattle Company’s reigning champion, 32Y SweetPro’s Bruiser, going into the Finals. He was just ahead of Julio Moreno’s 35 Spotted Demon. Smooth Operator is co-owned by Julie Rosen and Clay Struve. Smooth Operator out-dueled Fabiano Vieira in 6.20 seconds in Round 2 of the Finals, with a bull score of 45.50. This score bested Bruiser’s score of 44.75 points in Round 2, where he dispatched Francisco Garcia Torres in 3.35 seconds. This moved Smooth Operator a little closer to the title. In the Championship Round on Sunday, Smooth Operator took on Cooper Davis. The two have met before. Cooper lasted eight seconds on Smooth Operator back in September of 2018 in Atlantic City, for a whopping score of 93.75 points. Smooth Operator’s bull score was 46.25 points. Some are calling that one of the best bull rides in PBR history.

All eyes were on Smooth Operator as Cooper mounted him in the chute. This was bull fighter Jesse Byrnes “Pick of the Pen” for the Championship Round on the CBS Sports Network broadcast. Earlier in the season, Chad changed Smooth Operator to a righthand delivery out of the chute, which seemed to improve his consistency. Cody Lambert remarked, “He’s the toughest bull in the pen.” When the chute opened, and the battle ensued, Cooper was bucked off at 7.74 seconds and Smooth Operator got a bull score of 46.50 points. Jose Vitor Leme outlasted Bruiser for a score of 93.50 points, and Bruiser had a bull score of 45.75 points. This gave Bruiser a 46.08 World Champion Bull average, to Smooth Operator’s 45.70 average. Again, it went down to the last out of the last round to determine that Bruiser had barely edged Smooth Operator for the title. “We’re going to try Smooth Operator one more year,” Chad revealed. “He’ll be nine years old next year, so we won’t put too much pressure on him. We’ll try to pick and choose his outs so that he can end the season contending for the championship again.” As for what is new on the horizon for Chad and his team, Chad said, ”We are pretty proud that we picked up 323 Legit from Leffew Bucking Bulls. Julie Rosen, Clay Struve and I bought him straight out. We’re anxious to see how he does next year.” Chad ended our conversation by saying, “I just want to thank all the fans. We appreciate them so much. Without them, nothing in bull riding would be where it is. The bulls will all be well taken care of, and we just hope to see all the fans next year.”

32Y SweetPro’s Bruiser 3-Time PBR World Champion Bull

D&H Cattle Company’s 32Y SweetPro’s Bruiser is the 2018 PBR Yeti World Champion Bull of the Year. He clinched the title in the championship round of the PBR World Finals at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, with a 45.75-point bull score. Jose Vitor Leme stayed aboard Bruiser for the full eight seconds for a huge score of 93.5! Bruiser beat out 2018 PBR Stock Contractor of the Year Chad Berger’s Smooth Operator and Julio Moreno’s Spotted Demon with a 46.08 World Champion Bull average. He takes home the $100,000 bonus. 32Y SweetPro’s Bruiser joins Little Yellow Jacket as the only two bovine superstars in the history of the PBR, to win the PBR World Champion Bull of the Year title three consecutive years. Little Yellow Jacket was crowned champ in 2002, 2003, and 2004. Bruiser joins him in that elite group by winning the championship in 2016, 2017, and 2018. Bushwacker is the other bucking bull that has claimed the title three times, although not consecutively. He won it in 2011, 2013, and 2014. These superstar bovine athletes all possess that special something that sets them on a different level. PBR Director of Livestock Cody Lambert told PBR insider Justin Felisko, “Bruiser is an all-time great, and if he didn’t win it, he still

would have been an all-time great. He has never been as rank as Bushwacker, but Bushwacker was never as good as Bruiser. He’s one of the all-time greats.” Consistency is one of the primary attributes that contribute to Bruiser’s greatness. This seven-year-old bull never has a bad out. He is a big, tough, champion bovine athlete. “Bruiser’s consistency sets him apart from other bulls,” shared owner H.D. Page. “I don’t think there has ever been a better bull in PBR history than Bruiser. I don’t think he’s the rankest bull in the arena, but I don’t think there has ever been one better. I bucked him a bunch as a two and three-year-old. He consistently earned a check every place I hauled him.” “His style of bucking is straight up and down and big kicks,” H.D. continued. “No moves forward or belly rolls. Every jump is almost the same as the one before. He has perfect timing. I’ve never had a bull that bucks as hard as he does. He stands square in the middle of the chute, like his motor is idling. But when that gate opens, it’s like he flips a switch. I’ve heard it said that these bulls love what they do. Bruiser has taken that to another level. He is full throttle from start to finish.”

SweetPro’s Bruiser clinched his third consecutive YETI World Champion Bull title with a 45.75-point bull score in the championship round. Photo by Andy Watson/BullStockMedia.com Perfection is a word that best describes this bovine superstar. From a PBR bull rider’s perspective, Bruiser is the perfect draw because he is rideable. He is gentle and calm in the chute. But when that gate opens, he explodes out of the chute and jumps backwards and sideways, and kicks really high. If you stick with him and don’t make any mistakes, you can hang on for eight seconds, and are guaranteed a score of 90 or above. That usually translates to a round win, money in your pocket, and championship points earned. In 102 outs at all levels, Bruiser has been ridden 21 times, for a buck-off percentage of 79.41%. Bruiser’s average rider score in 2018 was 92.06 points. From a stock contractor’s perspective, Bruiser is the perfect bull because he travels well, is easy to handle, loves to buck, and is in the running for PBR World Champion Bull year after year. “For a bull as good as he’s been for as long as he’s been that good, he just makes the job easy. We can literally just sit back and enjoy the show. We know he’s going to buck at 100%. We are all so proud of him!”

trotted up and we got him loaded for Vegas, something changed. My nervousness changed to confident chills and I had a sense of relief, of peace. I knew he was going to be fine.” Bruiser will buck in the PRCA Wrangler NFR in Las Vegas in December. He was the 2018 PRCA Reserve Champion behind 35 Spotted Demon. When I asked H.D. if Bruiser was going to go for title number four next season, H.D. said, “We’re going to enjoy this third title for a little while. We’ll see how he performs at the NFR next month, and then play it by ear next year. One thing is certain. We’ll do what’s best for Bruiser. I don’t want the ride to be over, but I don’t want to be selfish. I think he’s still on top of his game.” SweetPro’s Bruiser enjoys some time in the sun at the bull housing in Las Vegas, NV during the PBR World Finals. Photo by Andy Watson/BullStockMedia.com

D&H Cattle Company has been breeding and raising bucking bulls for nearly 30 years. Owned and operated by H.D. and his dad, Dillon, their 1,500-acre ranch is on the banks of the Washita River near the small, south central Oklahoma town of Dickson. Bruiser is co-owned by Jirl, Brenda and Bailey Buck. Bruiser is just one example of the genetic athleticism that the Page’s have bred into their bulls. Bruiser’s daddy is 009 Showtime and his mama is Page T8, a daughter of Little Yellow Jacket. Other bulls of renown that wear the D&H Cattle Company’s Rocking P brand are: 16B Budakon, A1 Mud Shark, 572 Jack Shot, 397A Frequent Flyer, and 95X DaNutso. And of course, 561C Hocus Pocus, the three-year-old that split the PBR Bull of the Finals title and $25,000 with Laffew’s Bucking Bulls 323 Legit. Hocus Pocus also won the ABBI Classic Championship and the accompanying $200,000! Hocus Pocus appears to be an up-and-coming superstar. He’ll be one to watch in the next few years. Bruiser was a question mark for part of the 2018 season. He didn’t compete at all during the second half of the 25th PBR Unleash the Beast Series. H.D. kept Bruiser at home in Oklahoma. Bruiser was nursing an injury to his stifle joint, and some problems with his back. “We had some issues with his back and his stifle,” H.D. observed. “Bruiser just goes, and he don’t let up. We kept him home to rest and heal. As we got closer to the Finals, I was afraid he was not at the top of his game. I was nervous before the first day. I’d been praying, and as soon as he

Kaique Pacheco – World Champion He might have been battered and bruised, but Kaique Pacheco came into the 25th PBR Unleash The Beast World Finals on top of the leader board and had no intention of letting the title slip through his fingers. Pacheco opted to compete in the Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour Finals the weekend prior to try and increase his lead for that $1 million. He did not cover a bull, and that wasn’t the worst of it. The one thing he did not need to happen was to get hurt, but that is exactly what occurred. Kaique tore both his MCL and PCL in his left knee at the Velocity Finals and later pulled his groin, but fought through the pain and rode two of his bulls in the Big Show that was the World Finals on his way to becoming World Champion. As it turned out he did not have to ride in the Championship Round to grab the World

title, even though he did qualify for it. That was a good thing, since his knee was hurting more and more as the days went by. With the help of PBR interpreter Paulo Crimber, we spoke with Kaique after the event. “When I found out that I didn’t have to get on, that I was already the World Champion, I really didn’t want to put my leg at risk and make it worse than what it is. But if I have to ride the sixth round just to make sure that I got the win, I would have ridden just the way I did all the other rounds. “I am very pleased with my performance here, because with this kind of injury, it’s not easy to compete with – the torn MCL and PCL and the groin also. So I’m just really pleased, and thank God to help me go through this.” At the time we spoke, surgery had not been scheduled. “At first, coming into this week, we didn’t think about surgery. But now we are gonna have to do another MRI to see if I need the surgery or not.” A mere 422.5 points behind Pacheco was the 2017 Rookie of the Year Jose Vitor Leme, followed by the fast-closing Cody Teel, Claudio Montanha, Jr., and Marco Eguchi.

Marco Eguchi rides Stuntman Ray (Broken Arrow Bucking Bulls) for 91 points to split the win in round 3.

Marco Eguchi – World Finals Event Champion Eguchi might have been fifth in the World, but he was on top of the event standings, earning him that World Finals Event title. He did it in style, riding five of six bulls and posting the highest score of the Finals – a 94! Unfortunately, he didn’t really remember the ride, since he was knocked out after it was over. “Actually, I remember before and after,” Marco said with a smile. “I don’t remember anything during the ride. But I have watched it and liked it. I have been training hard for this kind of competition; to ride well at the Finals. I am content with how I did here.

Here is a round-for-round breakdown, with quotes from most of the winners.

“Next week I will go back to Brazil and see my family for the holidays. I will probably do some PBR events there and then come back ready for the New Year.”

Round 1 – ABBI Bulls The winner on the first night was Matt Triplett. He scored an 89.25 after a super ride on Little Tucker, owned by Patterson/Halpain. Triplett had shoulder surgery on November 8, 2017 right after last years’ Finals, and was out more than five months.

Rounding out the top five were Leme, Chase Outlaw, Derek Kolbaba, and Matt Triplett. Outlaw and Eguchi both headed into the Championship Round having ridden all five of their bulls, with Marco ahead of Chase by a mere 10.75 points. Both men bucked off their bulls in the final round, and it took winning the Championship Round on SweetPro’s Bruiser by Leme to move just ahead of Outlaw in the overall standings for the event.

“I tore my labrum. They put two huge screws in it and Tandy had to reattach all my ligaments. I have about a six-inch scar from the top of my shoulder blade all the way down to my armpit. It took about six hours. The shoulder feels amazing. I wouldn’t be where I’m at without Tandy Freeman.”

Keyshawn Whitehorse – 2018 Rookie of the Year It was a bit of a rocky road for his Finals, as it took him until the fifth round to post a qualified ride. But Keyshawn Whitehorse managed to hold Colten Jesse, Nathan Burtenshaw, and Alex Marcilio at bay to become the 2018 Rookie of the Year. “I bucked off quite a few in the beginning, and I was a bit frustrated,” Keyshawn told us. “I knew I could ride and that there were times that I should have ridden the bulls I did get on, or at least ride them better than I did. I had to make sure I didn’t focus on the negative. At the end of the day the sun will rise tomorrow, and this is a memory that I will cherish. “It’s human nature to have doubt when you’re having trouble, but I keep my faith in God first and know that there will always be a plan and always be a way. I will take a few days off and then go back at it.”

“My bull tonight, Little Tucker, is a great bull; he was everything you could ask for in this round. If he’s out of the right he’ll go right, if he’s out of the left he’ll go left. He’s very consistent. He jumps and kicks hard and was spinning right in my hand. It was awesome. He can be a little hairy in the chute, that’s why he wears that halter. But he is a great bull to ride.” Eduardo Aparecido was right behind Triplett with an 89-point score after he covered the Cord McCoy/Bruce Wold bull Mr. Majestic. Leme was third after riding Swamp Wreck, owned by BS Cattle Co./Ace of Spades/Red Laces Cattle Co. to an 88.75. Cody Nance was fourth, with Chase Outlaw fifth. Round 2 – RANK PEN Marco Eguchi won with that 94-point ride we have already mentioned. He rode Spotted Demon, owned by Julio Moreno and Dallas Schott. Since he was knocked out, he obviously didn’t come to the press conference. Neither did Leme, who was 91 points on

Bad Beagle, owned by Phenom Genetics/Rothe. J.B. Mauney, who bucked off his first bull, was given a 90.5 for his ride on the TNT Bucking Bulls/Hart Cattle Co.’s M.A.G.A. to finish third in the second round. Later he had this to say. “At the start of the ride I was kinda thinking, ‘Holy s**t, I’m gonna get bucked off AGAIN!’ I just told myself to keep my hand shut like I have the past 13 years instead of thinking about it. I knew exactly what this bull was gonna do. I looked at the list and I didn’t know most of those bulls. I rode M.A.G.A. in Calgary earlier this year and I was 88 or something on him, so I went with that one. “He’s a real good bull. I figured he should be right in the gate to the right and I could be 90 on him. But you get older and hit a rough patch and you get doubters. That’s the best part of this job; proving people wrong.” The moral of the Mauney story is, don’t make him mad! J.B. also confirmed that he will in fact ride in both the PBR and PRCA events next year. “This coming year, with the American and such, there are a lot of events where money counts for the PRCA standings, so I figured I might as well get my card back. I haven’t had one in nine or 10 years, so I bought it back. I’m not getting any younger and I’ve always wanted to ride at the NFR at least once in my life, so I better do it now.” In fourth was Paulo Lima, with Kaique in fifth. Round 3 We saw 21 qualified rides in this round. That was quite unusual, but also made for some really good watching. There were co-winners here, with Derek Kolbaba on Biker Bob, owned by Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/H&C Bucking Bulls, and Marco Eguchi on the Broken Arrow Bucking Bull

Stuntman Ray tied for first with 91 points. We were a bit surprised to see Marco, but he passed his concussion protocol test, and it was obvious from his ride that he felt fine. Derek said, “The first two nights didn’t really go very well for me.” (Derek bucked off in 7.95 seconds in Round 1 and 6.64 seconds in Round 2.) “Coming back tonight on a bull that threw me off last year, I just came in with the attitude that at that six-second mark I just need to kick the afterburners in and finish the ride. “A night like tonight is probably one of the best nights of bull riding you’re gonna see. It was outstanding, and as a fan, it was fun to watch. I don’t want to miss watching any of these guys ride.” Eguchi had this to say. “I had that bull about two months ago, and he’s a good bull,” Eguchi said. “I knew I could win the round if I rode him, and that’s what happened. But these are the Finals and you have to do your best, so that’s why I’m here. “I feel great now. It’s hard when you get a knockout like that and you have to compete. It’s very nice that the Brazilians are here to support us. They help us a lot. And I want to thank the contractors for bringing these bulls. I appreciate them.” Cody Teel also had a big score, a 90 on Brahma Boots Chrome, owned by Outlaw Buckers Rodeo Corp., to put him third in the round. Fourth was a tie between Leme (which put him at 9 for 9 in Las Vegas between last years’ Finals and this year) and the 2016 World champ Cooper Davis. Round 4 – ABBI World Finals Classic Bulls Cody Teel posted his second 90 or more score in a row, this time a 90.25 on Medicine Man, owned by TNT Bucking Bulls/Hart Cattle Co. “The two 90-point rides feel great, especially after coming down on the first ones. Being third in the round last night I had a chance for a good pick. The bull tonight had a little bit more timing and hanging in the air than the bull I had last night, Brahma Boots Chrome, but both those bulls make you ride them through eight. You can’t let up, you’ve gotta ride them for 10. “I love having my family here. My little daughter Evie is handling the traveling well and settling in, and I’d much rather have them here with me than worrying about them at home. It’s fun having her here and getting to share experiences with her and my wife, Kaitlin.” Second in the round went to the defending World Champion Jess Lockwood. He covered the 4G Derek Kolbaba covers Biker Bob (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/H&C Bucking Bulls) for 91 points to split the win in round 3.

Jose Vitor Leme combines with Bottoms Up (TNT Bucking Bulls/ Hart Cattle Co) for 89.75 points. Ranch/Long bucking bull Uptown Funk for an 89.25. Third was Montanha Jr. He was able to stay on Lil 2 Train for a score of 89. That bull is owned by Braindead Cattle Company/Hilton Bull Co. Fourth went to Davis, while Triplett and Lachlan Richardson split fifth. Tonight the Leme perfect streak at T-Mobile was broken when he bucked off South Texas Gangster. But Eguchi and Outlaw were perfect going into Championship Sunday, and at this point either one of them could have been the Event Champion. Round 5 It was Kolbaba who took top honors in this fifth round. He got the eight on Smooth Wreck and was awarded a 91.75 for his efforts. Pacheco was fifth on this bull in the second round. Davis joined him in the 90-point club when he got 90.5 on Stretch to be second. Stretch is owned by Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/ Heald Pro Bulls. Tying for third was Lockwood and Whitehorse, both posting an 89.5. Jess got his score on Rising Son, who is owned by the same connections as Stretch, while Keyshawn rode Wicked Dreams, owned by TNT Bucking Bulls/Hart Cattle Co. And tying for fifth were Montanha Jr. and Alisson De Souza. Championship Round Four men were able to conquer these top bovine athletes, and the leader of this round was Leme. He got a huge score of 93.5 on the amazing SweetPro’s Bruiser. Second was Kolbaba. He covered Cochise, who is owned by Jane Clark/Gene Owen, and got a 91 for his efforts. Triplett rode Spotted Demon to finish third in the round. He posted a score of 87.5. This is the bull that Eguchi got his giant 94 points on in Round 2. Rounding out the foursome was Teel. He rode Bad Beagle for an 86.25. Bad Beagle was yet another bull who helped another bull rider to the pay window in the second round, and that was none other than Leme. Other Awards Besides the awards already mentioned at the beginning of this article, there were others that were given out. For the eighth time, and fifth year in a row, Chad Berger and Clay Struve were named the 2018 Stock Contractors of the Year. Another repeat winner was SweetPro’s Bruiser, grabbing his third consecutive PBR YETI World Champion Bull for D&H Cattle Co./Buck Cattle Co.

And as long as we are talking about bull power, look out for these youngsters coming up. The D&H Cattle Co./Almand/Barthold bull Hocus Pocus was named both the 2018 ABBI Classic Champion as well as the 2018 ABBI World Finals Classic Event Champion. Prayer Warrior, owned by Halpain/Roth was the 2018 ABBI World Finals Event Reserve Champion, and Fearless, who is owned by Julian/Buck Cattle/D&H Cattle, was the 2018 ABBI Classic Reserve Champion. Dakota Buttar won the Glen Keeley Award for the Canadian bull rider that earned the most points during the season. This was Dakota’s second consecutive year winning this award. Parting Thoughts For their 25th Anniversary, this PBR Finals did not disappoint. The bulls were amazing, as were the rides. Yes, there were some wrecks and some of the men could not continue, but as hard as it is to watch, that comes with the territory. As tough as Kaique is, I have to remind everyone of just how driven and tough Chase Outlaw is as well. After having his face smashed and undergoing 12 hours of reconstructive surgery (and will be having another surgery shortly to fix more things) he not only fought his way to victory at the Velocity Finals, but rode five out of six bulls at the World Finals to almost take the Event title. Many people thought he would or should retire. Well, think again, folks! And just in case any of you are wondering why I have not mentioned anything about Guilherme Marchi’s retirement, fear not. For all of the Marchi fans out there, I did an interview with Guilherme and it is in this issue. Enjoy! Photos by Andy Watson/ Bullstockmedia.com

Outlaw Answers the Doubters With a Win in the Velocity Tour Finals By Barbara Pinnella During his final ride at last years’ PBR World Finals, Chase Outlaw shredded his previously injured and surgically repaired right shoulder, necessitating a seven-month absence from competition. Six weeks after making his return to the arena at Cheyenne Frontier Days, he was seriously injured again and had to undergo 12 hours of facial reconstructive surgery, one that the surgeon said was the worst facial injury he had ever seen. Chase probably rode approximately two months of the entire regular 2018 season. Almost everyone felt he was finished. Everyone that is, but Outlaw. He had other ideas, one of which was making it to the 2018 World Finals, and seventy-five days later he once again put his rope on a bull. Fast forward to the Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour (RVT) Finals the first weekend of November at the South Point Hotel. Not only did he win those Finals, his second such victory, but he cemented himself in 22nd place and competed in the 25th Anniversary of the PBR World Finals, called Unleash The Beast. This marked his seventh consecutive Finals appearance. Humps N Horns spoke with Chase right after his RVT victory, and while he was happy with his win of the title, he was more philosophical about it. “I’m not gonna be too excited for something that I expected of myself,” he told us. “I’m not really thrilled with the way my effort was in the short round with that buck-off, but I’m just gonna take that and roll with it right into the next one and take it one bull at

a time. But you know what, that short round bull, that’s over. It’s over and I can’t do anything about it; tomorrow’s a new day. “You can do anything you set your mind to,” Outlaw continued. “I just hope this says something to all those people that just sat there and asked me, ‘Hey, are you gonna quit? Are you gonna retire?’ To those people that had doubt on their mind, I’m putting their foot in their mouths right now. I have a faith in God and believing in yourself and you can do anything – move mountains!” There were a lot of things that Chase did do, but grumbling wasn’t one of them. With his faith he took everything in stride as best he could. “One thing I didn’t do was to complain and whine about things. I didn’t wonder why this, why me? Jesus turned water into wine, but he never turned whining into anything.” While Outlaw won the Finals event, it was Brazilian Alisson de Souza who won the 2018 RTV Championship for the season. He covered two of his three bulls and finished just behind Chase in the Finals to grab that important RVT title. That win also moved him up the ladder, putting him in 34th place and ensuring that he would ride in the World Finals. Rounding out the top 10 were Paulo Ferreira Lima and Luis Blanco who tied for third, Juan Carlos Contreras, Sean Willingham, Travis Maguire, Jose Vitor Leme, Edgar Durazo, and Silvano Alves.

Besides Outlaw, Willingham, Leme, and Alves, many other men competed in these Finals to either to try to make sure they qualified for the World Finals or to make a move up the ladder. Keyshawn Whitehorse, Colton Jesse, Alex Marcilio, and Nathan Burtenshaw competed, as they were in a battle for Rookie of the Year. Fans also got to see the likes of Kaique Pacheco, J.B. Mauney, and Dener Barbosa.

Five other men got the chance to compete at the World Finals thanks to the RVT. They were Francisco Garcia Torres, Lima, Michael Lane, Blanco, and Contreras. And finally, bulls were also featured at South Point. The American Bucking Bull Inc. (ABBI) held their Derby and Wild Card competitions. Ninety bulls competed in each category; three-yearolds in the Derby and three and four-year-old Wild Card bulls. In the Derby, it was Preachers Kid owned by K-C Bucking Bulls/ RD Cattle on top. He had a 90.6-point performance to take home the check of almost $28,000. Dirty White Boy owned by Andrews Rodeo Company, TNT 541, who is owned by Terrell/Smith, and the Craig Smith/Vern Nix bull Right Stuff tied for second when they all scored an 88.2. In the Wild Card Classic, Cord McCoy/Big Sky Bulls, LLC’s Viper won top honors with 89.4 points. In second was Jaywalker, owned by Torres Brothers Bucking Bulls, and coming in third was Full Count, who is owned by Major League Bucking Bulls.

Because of their performances, Wild Card Classic bulls Viper, Jaywalker, and Full Count, as well as Rugby, owned by LeFlore Bucking Bulls and the Andrews Rodeo Company bull Velocity all competed in the ABBI Classic Finals, which occurred on the first night of the World Finals at T-Mobile Arena.

Guilherme Marchi

brings down the curtain on 15 years in the pbr By Barbara Pinnella

Anyone who has been watching PBR bull riding for any period of time is familiar with Guilherme Marchi. This super talented Brazilian was not only the 2008 PBR World Champion, he competed in 15 World Finals, which ties a record with Mike Lee, has been a World Finals event champion, a World Cup champion, and a Global Cup champion.

strong attitude added to his popularity. The fact that he is also quite handsome didn’t hurt either.

After banking more than $5.3 million dollars, the 2018 PBR World Finals, which celebrated its 25th anniversary, would be the last time fans were treated to watching him ride. Back in August, Marchi announced that this would be his last season, and he finishes his career with 635 qualified rides on the elite series of the PBR, which is also a record.

“It’s funny, because I didn’t think about my retirement. But when I rode that bull (Little Red Jacket at the Express Employment Professionals Classic in August) I said to myself, ‘You know, I felt kind of slow and it was kind of hard to ride that bull, and so I think it’s time to retire.’

To say his many followers were not happy is an understatement. Not only is Guilherme a great bull rider, his humility and stay

Humps N Horns had a chance to sit down with Guilherme during the Finals to get his thoughts on his decision to leave the sport of bull riding and what is in store for the next chapter in his life.

“So then I announced my retirement, and everybody was kind of shocked, you know? I was too, because I never told my family I was gonna retire. It was kind of my decision,” he continued. “My family is happy now. Every decision I make in my life they are with me. It is tough to ride bulls, and we have a new baby. I am gonna spend more time with my family now, so this is another chapter in my life. I am blessed for everything in the sport, but it is time to leave it.” During the fifth round, CEO Sean Gleason had Marchi up on the shark cage to present him with a commemorative plaque celebrating his illustrious career and paying him the tribute he deserved. Suffice it to say that there was probably not a dry eye in the house, including Guilherme. During that presentation he had this to say. “Thank you all, all my fans. You guys are part of my family. I’m

going to miss you guys. Every day I build my life, I build it on the back of bulls. Thank you to all the stock contractors, all the bull riders, all the bullfighters, the staff, the sports med team, the TV, all the sponsors. If you guys are not here, we’re not here. I love you guys. Thank God for everything He did in my career.” Marchi told us he has his brand, Marchi Brand, which is not only a line of clothing, but caps, bull ropes, buckles, gloves, and the like. He came up with the idea for his brand back in 2015 and it has evolved from there. “My brand here is going well. You can find your stuff at www.marchibrand. com,” he told us with a smile. “Another project I have in my life now is to do riding clinics. Robson Palermo and I have a lot of bull riding clinics in Brazil. I want to do something so I don’t miss the bull riding so much and help the young kids coming up; help their dream come true like mine did. “I am going back to Brazil right after the Finals and spend a couple of months there. I have clinics down there pretty much every week. In June I will come back to the United States and give bull riding clinics with Robson.” Guilherme and J.B. participated in a press conference after the second round, and when Marchi said he wanted to help bring the kids along, Mauney quipped, ‘Don’t do that. Wait ‘til I retire please!’ That was said in jest, because the mutual respect these two showed for each other was palpable, and that is the case within the bull riding family. Earlier in the day, Guilherme had mentioned Big Tex and Copperhead Slinger as being two of his favorite bulls. He elaborated on that a bit. “I won a lot of money and a lot of buckles on Copperhead. I’ll remember forever you know, I’m never gonna forget those bulls. They are professionals like us. Owner Chad Berger (who hauled both Big Tex and Copperhead Slinger) loves those bulls and they are treated very well. That’s why he is the 8-time Stock Contractor of the Year.” When asked what he would miss the most, Marchi was unable to name just one thing.

“But of course I’m very happy now. It’s my decision and like I said, my dreams came true and I have respect for all the people. Fifteen years, 15 Finals. It’s been a long road and a lot of bulls. There have been a lot of ups and downs, a lot of dedication. So now I can spend more time with my family and my new baby, Guilherme Jr. My wife Maria is amazing. She’s a great mom and a great wife. I am blessed.” When asked if he had anything else he would like to tell us he did not hesitate. “I’d like to say thanks to all the American fans for everything and their support for me in my long career. I’m gonna miss you guys. When you have a dream, push yourself. Give it everything you have. Never, ever lose your faith and never give up.” I am sure Humps N Horns Bull Riding Magazine speaks for most of you reading this when we say that we will miss Guilherme as much as he will miss us. He has been one of the best ambassadors for the sport to come around in a long time. His positive attitude, the way he interacted with both the fans and the press, and his determination and love of the game helped make him the huge favorite that he is today. We wish him the very best with all of his endeavors!

“I’m gonna miss my fans. I’ll miss the riders; they are like brothers for me. I will miss the PBR; they treat me very well all the time. It’s very hard, because everything I’ve done in my life is inside the arena.
