Letter from the Editor

As we enter the month of July, it is a wonderful time to reflect and celebrate the freedom that we enjoy as Americans. I sincerely hope that you will take some time to think about how truly blessed we are to live in a great country like the United States of America. Our July issue is packed full of interesting articles and some amazing photographs. We have a terrific recap from the Last Cowboy Standing and Kaique Pacheco’s repeat as the champion there in Las Vegas. We also have a really nice article about a rising star within the PRCA and PBR ranks, Brennon Eldred. In fact, in between the time this article was written and went to print, Eldred won the the Atoka Trail Riders PRCA Xtreme Bulls event and also Day 2 at the Dakota Community Bank PBR Bull Riding Challenge, one of the best Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour events of the year, which is produced by Chad Berger.

We also have a chance to meet Jimmy and Lindsey Rogers and their nonprofit organization, Boots for Troops, whose mission is to uplift and empower the over-all morale and mental well-being of deployed service members defending our freedom. The first annual Silvano Alves Challenge will be held in Allen, Texas on Sunday, August 6 to help raise awareness and funds for Boots for Troops as they support our military personnel. I trust you will enjoy this issue and look forward to seeing you at an event soon.

We also have the opportunity to learn more about Broken Arrow Bucking Bulls, owned by Lance and Melissa Neff. They are well on their way to building a solid herd of bucking bulls and are making their presence known.

Until next time, Terry

Jesus said; It is finished....almost? There is a mindset in Christian circles that the sacrifice of Jesus saved our soul at the Cross but that it’s up to us to help Him out and sanctify ourselves by learning more and being more obedient to what we learn. Scripture says that, “in Christ we are a new creation”, “holy and blameless”.

Now the annual ritual of blood sacrifice has been replaced with the death of Jesus and the price has been paid one time not to cover sin but to completely erase our sin and it’s eternal effects on us. Jesus is our cure.

Can we sanctify ourselves? No, our not being sanctified comes from our sin. Sin has only one cure and that is the blood of sacrifice. In the Old Covenant, the blood of animals was used to cover the consequences of people’s sins to the next year and the sacrificial process was annually done by the head of each household. By the New Covenant, blood is still required but this time it is the blood of Jesus Christ, God in human form.

I don’t think the mistake is His, I think the mistake is humanity thinking it’s their job to finish it. He did it all for us so we can live free from having to do and we can live at peace knowing that we are totally sanctified because of Love.

Why would Jesus only do a portion of what no one else on the planet had the goods to do. Sanctified is what we are after we’ve been Scripture says that our good deeds are as filthy supernaturally changed by the Father’s Spirit rags compared to His Goodness, so why would into that new creation. he leave it up to us to clean up His mistake.

Knee problems are, unsurprisingly, very common. After all, the knee is the largest joint in the body and is responsible for bending and straightening your legs! It is a common misconception that “bad knees” translates to not being able to very active, but actually, it is crucial for the health of the knees to stay active. This will strengthen the supporting muscles and can prevent issues from getting worse. But as with many things, there are movements you should avoid. Good news though, there are plenty of safe exercises that do not strain the knee joint! Here is a list of the Do’s and Don’ts when it comes to dealing with knee pain, as well as some natural remedies to get relief:

without warming up your muscles or else you are just asking for injury. Before any exercise, take a few minutes to slowly walk a couple laps to stretch out your legs. This will get your muscles warm and reduce discomfort. Exercise in Water:
Exercising in water is a great way to move around with less pain due to water’s buoyant properties. In other words, water helps you float, making you lighter and relieving your joints of carrying your body weight. Try Knee-Friendly Exercise Equipment:
There are plenty of options in the gym that put very little stress on your knees. For example, try out a stationary or recumbent bike or the elliptical to get some good cardio into your routine! Strengthen Your Supporting Muscles:
Think of the muscles around your knee as a natural knee brace. The two main muscle groups that support the knee are the quadriceps and the hamstrings. Focus on strengthening these two large muscle groups to create better support for your knee joints. Some beneficial exercises include: straight leg raises and (safely!) walking backwards.

Walk Often:
Walking is a perfect low-impact activity that does not require equipment. Start with what you can handle and gradually build up to 20-30 minutes a day and your knees will thank you! Warm Up and Stretch:
You never want to jump right into an activity or exercise routine

Consider Contacting a Professional:
Whether it be a chiropractor, physical therapist, or exercise instructor, a professional can provide you with appropriate exercises and stretches, also a physical therapist can diagnose unhealthy movement patterns. These trained professionals have invaluable knowledge on how to set you up for success, and eventually, lessen your pain!
Now for the list of Don’ts ...

Humps-Horns.com · 10 · July 2017

Don’t Participate in High-Impact Activities If It Aggravates Knee Pain:
Most activities that include running, sudden stopping, jumping, and frequent turns places compromised knees at risk of further damage. It is not the case that you are forbidden to participate in these activities just remember to be mindful of your movements and protect your knees! Avoid Hard Surfaces Like Concrete: If you have a choice, take a walk in the grass or a dirt path. Concrete or asphalt lack shock absorption, and therefore, increase pressure on the knees when walking or running. Treadmills are arguably a good alternative, but even among these there are good options and bad ones too. Focus on the shock absorption!
 Don’t Do High-Load Exercises:
These exercises, such as full squats, leg presses, and lunges, can increase pain. They require you to bend your knees beyond the natural 90-degree angle and put excessive pressure on the joints. Also, these particular exercises are often done with improper form, which can cause further injury.
 Don’t Overlook Your Weight:
Extra weight adds stress on your knees. Even small changes make a significant difference on the load your knees carry.
 Don’t Wear Worn-Out Shoes:
Shoes that do not fit properly, or are worn out, affect the way you walk. If the way you walk is compromised, it distributes extra pressure for your knees to bear and, in turn, increases stress on them. Cushioned insoles, or shoes that are specially shaped for your foot, are the best options to reduce knee pain. Don’t Overdo It!
Never skip a rest day. Your knees need time to recover from any kind of physical activity or exercise regime.

#1) Ice Within minutes, the cold application should reduce swelling and also decrease the pain caused by inflammation. Cold applications are inexpensive, easy to use, and require little effort. In the end, it is such a small thing to do that can have a big impact when it comes to reducing the pain and swelling in your knee. #2) Rest Rest gives your knee a break from all of the pressure that occurs from moving the leg all the time. Depending on the nature of your knee pain and symptoms, you either want to rest the knee in the extended or bent position. This is up to you and should be determined by the amount of pain you feel in each position. If you feel less pain while the knee is extended, then rest with the knee extended; and viceversa. If your knee pain is from an injury, giving it adequate time to rest will speed up the healing process. #3) Elevation Elevation reduces inflammation by decreasing the amount of blood flow to the knee and reducing fluid in the area. For best results, properly elevate the knee by keeping the foot above the hip (not the heart). The higher the elevation of the knee, the better. Never elevate the leg in a 90 degree angle, however, a little bit of angle is ok and may be necessary if it hurts to fully extend the leg. Simply raising the leg up on a stool or a reclining chair is less effective than this technique. Remember, never elevate by placing pillows or cushions directly under the calf; this creates unwanted compression and causes problems in your calf muscle. #4) Topical Pain Relief Lotion Topical Pain Relievers provide fast, targeted, localized relief exactly to the area that you need it, and unlike NSAIDs or painkillers, they do not cause harm to your vital organs. Pain relief lotions allow you to apply directly to the area in pain rather than waiting for a pill to be

Humps-Horns.com · 11 · July 2017

processed by the body before taking effect. You can purchase these topical relievers over-the-counter so there is no need to schedule an appointment or wait for refills. When looking for a pain relief lotion, look for one with 3% or less menthol concentration as the active ingredient, this way you don’t deal with uncomfortable burning sensations on your skin. #5) Compression Compression sleeves increase blood flow and provide support. Most are made from neoprene and slide comfortably around the knee. They are an easy, inexpensive way to reduce knee pain. Consult with your physician before using a compression sleeve to make sure it is right for your condition.

Receive a FREE $10 Tube * of Pain Relief

#6) Exercise In 2012, the Arthritis Foundation said, “Studies show that simple activities like walking around the neighborhood or taking a fun, easy exercise class can reduce pain and help maintain (or attain) a healthy weight.” This is because exercise strengthens the muscles, which improves flexibility, range of motion, and pain. #7) Heat Therapy Heat therapy should only be used or applied when the muscles are sore, strained, or damaged. Heat should not be applied to bone, joint, or cartilage issues (Use cold applications instead). Heating pads are easy and inexpensive, but do not use longer than 30 minutes at a time and make sure to wrap the heating pad in a towel to prevent discomfort. Published by Real Time Pain Relief. Why not just follow the Bible and stop using lame excuses in your spiritual journey? Let us help you. You must believe that Jesus is the Son of God and died on the cross for your sins. (Acts 8:37). You must repent of your sins (Luke 13:3) you must confess Jesus as Lord (Matthew 10:32) and you must be baptized for the remission of your sins (Acts 2:38; 22:16). Then you must remain faithful and continue learning (II Peter 3:18). Let us help you on your spiritual journey. May God bless you in your study of His word.

You Didn’t Say Not To! Many times when I see a Christian or congregation doing something that is not authorized in the Bible, the excuse is “Well the Bible doesn’t say that I can’t do it.” While it’s true, the Bible doesn’t spell out everything we cannot do, sometimes we have to use common sense and err on the side of caution. It might be best that we only do what we are authorized to do and not hope that God will be pleased with anything different. The old saying, “It’s easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission”, can sometimes get us in trouble. I’m reminded of the following article by Carey Scott.

If you would like to learn more about what we are and are not authorized by God to do, please come, “let now, let us reason together...” Isaiah 1:18. In HIS love, Keno Shrum

Remember when you were young and you were sent to the store for a particular item? When you got home with that item and some other goodies, you were challenged as to why you bought more than that one item. You answered; “You didn’t say not to”. This was met with a strong reprimand (and usually some physical reinforcement) and you soon learned that when you were given a specific command or task, you were to obey that one and only command. Can you imagine the pharmacists adding some ingredients to your medicine and saying that your doctor did not say “not to” add this? Can you picture the response a soldier would get from his sergeant if he did something and replied that the sergeant did not say “not to”? What if you order a cake with red frosting from the bakery, and it arrives with red, white, and blue frosting. Would you accept an answer from the baker that you didn’t say “not to” add the blue and white frosting? Such explanations are not likely to be tolerated anywhere in most any circumstance. But why do people do things religiously and use this same excuse? They do something and when questioned, they reply something like: “Well, the Bible doesn’t say NOT to do this” This lame excuse is not tolerated in our world, so why should we expect God to tolerate such a lame excuse? God has told us what to do and how to do it in the words of the Bible. Doing something that is not authorized or written in the Bible is the same as adding to the word, and the addition of God’s word is a sin that deserves punishment. Sometimes God has spoken and we just neglect to do it or we determine for ourselves that it is not necessary. Deuteronomy 4:2 reads: “You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you”.

called Boots For Troops because each custom care package contains a new pair of boots personally selected by each service member receiving the package.” In its first year of operation, Boots For Troops raised over $100,000 to support the care package program. Since then, they have sent more than 200 custom packages to service members in seven countries and numerous Naval ships at sea. There is a second program called The Warrior Morale Project, which provides financial assistance to active duty service members needing travel assistance to return home in emergency situations or holidays. They have assisted over 50 service members and their families get home for family emergencies and holidays. “Each care package recipient can pick a pair of boots they like,” Jimmy said. “They aren’t restricted to just cowboy boots. Some have picked motorcycle boots, some have picked Uggs, but mostly they pick cowboy boots.”

By Kelly B. Robbins “Boots For Troops is a veteran founded and operated non-profit organization,” shared executive director and Navy veteran Jimmy Rogers. “Our mission is to uplift and empower the overall morale and mental wellbeing of deployed service members of the United States defending our freedom.” Boots For Troops was founded in June of 2015 by Jimmy and his wife, Lindsey. The idea came to Jimmy and Lindsey while he was still serving in the Navy at Norfolk, Virginia. “I’m a Texan,” Jimmy declared. “I wear cowboy boots. I love wearing cowboy boots. I wore my boots whenever I was off-duty. Many times fellow sailors complimented me on my boots and asked where they could get a pair. Also, when I was deployed aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt for 5 ½ months, I received a care package from the states. It was really exciting to get that anonymous package, until I opened it and discovered that it contained mostly items I couldn’t use.”

Boots For Troops receive their funding primarily from corporate and private donations. “We have over fifty monthly donors that range from $10 a month to $100 a month,” Jimmy offered. “We also have annual large donors that give $10,000+. And we would like to extend a special thank you to our corporate sponsors Boot Barn, Accuworx and JMJ Oilfield Services.” Boots For Troops has a seven-member Board of Directors that oversee three paid staff members and twenty-five regular volunteers. “It is a real team effort with our Board of Directors, our staff, our volunteers, and our corporate sponsors,” Jimmy said. The deployed service members that are the recipients apply for a package or travel assistance online at www.boots4troops.com . There they fill out a request form with detailed information which enables Boots For Troops to determine which eligible recipients will get a

“Most people are not aware of the sadness and day-to-day struggles men and women go through on deployment,” Jimmy shared. “I found that anything sent from home really helped boost the morale, bringing joy to the recipient.” It was on that deployment that Jimmy decided he wanted to give back and help others. He was passionate about staying connected to the armed forces and the men and women who serve. With Lindsey’s help, while still aboard ship, he was able to complete and file the necessary paperwork to form and run a nonprofit organization. Boots For Troops was born. “I wanted to include my love of boots as my own touch on the personal care package,” Jimmy explained. “Our organization is

customized package or travel assistance. “Once we receive the initial request,” Jimmy noted, “we reach back out to the service member to further determine their need and if it’s a care package, help them select a pair of boots.” “I take pride in the quality of the packages we send out,” Jimmy declared. “We custom make that package to each individual. It is filled with things I know they want. When they receive their package, it’s personal. People are blessed.” “I love the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) and the sport of bull riding,” Jimmy announced. “My father-in-law, Shane George, is a stock contractor and he owns Show Sports Bucking Bulls out of Magnolia, Texas. My successful equestrian wife, Lindsey grew up around horses and bull riding. And Flint Rasmussen actually picked me as the PBR Fan of the Night a few years back in Baltimore, when I was still in the Navy. I still have that buckle.” “I am thrilled to announce that we have our name connected with the PBR and we are the beneficiary charity for the upcoming first annual Silvano Alves Challenge PBR Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour event on August 6, 2017 at the Allen Event Center in Allen, Texas.” “This event is co-sponsored by Casey and Lisa Cox of the Swinging C Cattle Company and Jon Goetz of Goetz Realty and Development,” Jimmy added. “This will also be an ABBI Classic competition so there will be some really good bucking bulls competing in this exciting event. Three-time PBR World Champion Silvano Alves and many of his fellow PBR cowboys will be on hand to show the fans a great time! Boots For Troops will receive a percentage of the ticket proceeds and we will be selling hats and shirts. We will hold a silent auction, and there are individual and corporate sponsorship levels

available. Tickets for this event can be purchased at TicketMaster. com.” “The Silvano Alves Challenge is $10,000 added money with no drag,” shared event co-sponsor Casey Cox of the Swinging C Cattle Company. “We will have the top forty ABBI Classic bulls on hand competing for $50,000. The two Classic bulls that have the highest total average from this event and the August 12-13 PBR BFTS Express Employment Professionals Classic event at the BOK Center in Tulsa will split $5,000.” “There is also going to be a challenge within a challenge,” Casey divulged. “Silvano Alves’ son Eduardo, Mike Lee’s son, Noah, and J.W. Hart’s son Wacy will be competing in a three-head bucking challenge.” “My partner Jon Goetz and I were struggling to find a designated charity for this event,” Casey continued. “We wanted to find a military related charity but we were just not connecting with any that understood the bull business. While we were in Fort Worth at the Cowtown Coliseum for the Cowtown Classic, we strolled across the street to the White Elephant for a beer. Jon saw Jimmy Rogers in his Boots For Troops hat and shirt standing at the bar paying his bill and asked what Boots For Troops was all about. Jimmy was in Fort Worth with his father-in-law Shane George, who had bulls competing in the Classic. They got to talking together and the rest is history.” “We feel that Boots For Troops is a really neat charity for our service members,” Casey said. “This is a perfect fit for us and a perfect fit for them.”

Humps-Horns.com · 17 · July 2017

“We would like to thank Eric and Christy Davis of ELD Engineering,” Casey added. “Also Zimmer Kubota and Kubota Corporation for their help in making this event possible.” So there you have it, PBR fans, bull riding fans and anyone that just wants to have a great time! Mark your calendar for Sunday, August 6, 2017 and come to the Silvano Alves Challenge at the Allen Event Center in Allen, Texas! You are guaranteed an unforgettable experience while helping Jimmy and Lindsey Rogers and Boots For Troops send your love and support to honor our troops who are paying the price for our freedom.

Broken Arrow Bucking Bulls Marshall is a small farming community located in north-central Missouri. It has a rich history dating back to the Civil War and the Battle of Marshall. On October 13, 1863, Union General Egbert Brown led 1,800 soldiers against Confederate Colonel Joseph Orville Shelby’s cavalry raiders. This victory halted what was known as Shelby’s Great Raid, causing Shelby to retreat back to Arkansas. Marshall is situated about eighty miles east of Kansas City and is home to Broken Arrow Farms, Inc. Here Lance and Melissa Neff farm 5,000 acres of corn and soybeans, and raise bucking bulls in their spare time. There is a little history in the Broken Arrow name, too. It seems Lance was shooting arrows at a target outside the barn one day. He missed the target and the arrow flew into the barn. When they finally found the arrow, it was broken, and the name

Broken Arrow Farms was born. Broken Arrow Bucking Bulls has been part of Broken Arrow Farms for three years and is truly a family affair. Seventeen year-old son, Jackson, helped Lance and Melissa get Broken Arrow Bucking Bulls off the ground and he and dad haul the bulls to each event, and flank them. “Jackson really enjoys being on the road,” Melissa revealed. The Neffs are truly a rodeo family, but neither Lance nor Melissa grew up in the rodeo world. Lance started riding bulls out of high school in Marshall, and Melissa started barrel racing at the age of fourteen. She grew up in Michigan and still competes in barrel racing on her horse, Cowpony. Twenty-three year-old daughter Macy, and eleven year-old daughter Alexis both compete in barrel racing as well. “We are stock contractors and we have a breeding program, too.” Melissa shared. “Right now we have seventy-five bulls and thirty-five cows. We have a really stout pen of three, four and five year-old bulls. We also have some pretty rank bulls coming up. We’re pretty excited about our home-raised two year old bulls.” “We love being on the road, hauling our bulls and showing everyone just what we’ve got,” Melissa continued. “Between bucking bull events and rodeo, we are gone on the road just about every weekend.” The bulls of Broken Arrow Bucking Bulls get a special blend of feed, minerals and supplements twice a day to help keep the bulls in top shape. “We exercise the bulls about once a week,” Melissa said. “We get on our horses and run S232 Red Rocket as a 2 yr old bull. them. The rest of the time, the bulls are turned out in the pasture and just run and dig and play. They do okay.” “Genetics and feed are two of the most important things for bucking bulls,” Lance shared in an online interview with ‘Where They Buck. com’. Bull riding has always been a passion of mine. I rode some bulls when I was younger and I always loved it.” “S232 Red Rocket was the first bull we bought,” Lance continued in the interview. “He won the first event we hauled him to. His success caused me to continue on as a contractor.”

“Red Rocket won just about every event we hauled him to,” Melissa declared. “We bought him from Randy Shippy as a two year-old. He used to get pretty stressed when he was younger, but now he’s good to go. He’s chilled some and gotten used to everything. He’s still rather shy and he’s not an ‘in your face’ bull. He doesn’t act mean but he doesn’t like to be petted. When it’s time to buck, you can see a change come over Red Rocket. He puts on his game face and he’s ready to go do his job and be done.” When asked to describe Red Rocket in one word, Melissa immediately said,”Explosive! He has a huge jump right out of the

chute. When they open the gate he jumps way out and turns back into the rider’s hand and it bucks them off almost every time.”

According to Probullstats.com, Red Rocket has been ridden three times in fourteen attempts at the PBR BFTS level, for an average bull score of 42.75 and an average rider score of 86.58. Two-time PBR World Champion J.B. Mauney rode Red Rocket last February at the Iron Cowboy in Arlington for 86.75 points and again in Sioux Falls last March for 87.25 points. Former PBR World Champion Guillerme Marchi hung on for eight seconds in St. Louis last February for a score of 85.75. Red Rocket gets along pretty well with the other bulls, but he spends most of his time hanging out with stable-mate S211 Who Knows. Other bulls to keep your eyes on from Broken Arrow Bucking Bulls are 211 Red Fury, 7-213 Jesus n’ Bocephus, 11 Blu Bell, H19 Wedding Crasher, H14 Smokin’ Gun, 213 Wham Bam, and 11 Purina Athlete. What does the future look like for Broken Arrow Bucking Bulls? “We’ve got some good looking four year-old bulls we’re trying to get on the PBR Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour,” Melissa said. “We’ll continue to haul our younger bulls to the ABBI (American Bucking Bull Inc.) the UBBI (United Bucking Bull Inc.) and Futurity competitions. And we hope to continue hauling our great bucking bulls to the PBR BFTS events.”

By Barbara Pinnella In just his third appearance on the BFTS tour, 22-year-old Brennon Eldred made a big statement. He rode in Las Vegas at Last Cowboy Standing, and was second in the first round, scoring 87 points on the Julio Moreno / Dallas Schott bull, Mortimer. And while that was his only ride of the weekend, he did make people sit up and take notice. While Brennon might be a new face on the BFTS, he is certainly no stranger to those who follow the PRCA. He has been competing in the PRCA for the last four years, and has qualified for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo three times.

In fact, it was Eldred who scored a whopping 94.50 in Round 9 of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo last year on SweetPro’s Bruiser. That D&H Cattle Co / Buck Cattle Co bull was just coming off winning the title of the PBR World Champion Bull. That big ride sealed the deal for Brennon. If he could cover Bruiser at the WNFR, it was time to commit to the BFTS. “After spending that time in the PRCA, it’s time to make the transition to the PBR,” Brennon told Humps N Horns Bull Riding Magazine. “I grew up in a rodeo family. My dad, Todd, roped and

rode bareback horses. I have been a cowboy pretty much my whole life. I rope at home, and pretty much do everything that has to do with being a cowboy, I’m all about that.” While Eldred is happy doing most anything that has to do with the cowboy lifestyle, it was bull riding that really grabbed his attention. The reason for that was quite simple. He started riding bulls when he was younger, and it was something he just excelled in. Compared to the other events, bull riding just came easy to him. When we spoke with Brennon it was the second night in Las Vegas and he was coming off that ride on Mortimer in Round 1. “That’s a great bull of Julio’s,” he told us. “I’ve been on that bull before and that was a good one to kick off the first round with.” Eldred feels that there is a bit of a special atmosphere at the PBR than there is in the PRCA. We asked him what differences he was referring to. “Most definitely there is a difference. There is just a whole different group of people in the rodeo atmosphere. Here it’s just bull riding. I’m used to being at the rodeos and being around all the other events, the timed events and stuff, so it is different. But it’s still bull riding, so that part is not a huge change, and I’m finally starting to adjust to it, and liking it.

“The fans are also a bit different as well,” he continued. “There are the set of fans that just follow the PBR. But you still have your cowboy and rodeo fans also. They will always be there.” Brennon is certainly sitting in a good spot to make the WNFR this year. He was in 22nd place as of this writing, and the top 15 get to make the trip to those Finals. But he would also love to make the PBR World Finals as well. “I have only gone to 13 or 14 rodeos this year. I am just trying to balance them both out. Making both Finals is definitely a goal this year. I want to get back to Vegas in December, but I’d like to get there in November for the PBR Finals as well.” Even though he would like to qualify for both of those Finals, Eldred is not making any promises to himself with regard to where he will go or how many rodeos he will enter. Exactly what will happen is hard for him to say. “Even though I would like to make both Finals, we’ll just see where it takes me and see how my health is. If I can get by with going to

as few rodeos as I can and make the WNFR, I’ll dang sure do it. But I’m not gonna just beat myself up trying to make both of them. Whatever one treats me better, I think. But I’m wanting to stay here (PBR) for sure, this is something I’ve grown up wanting to do – get that gold buckle – do that is most likely the game plan.” That being said, Brennon knows that the PBR slows down for the summer, so he does intend to rodeo during the summer, as well as go to some PBR Velocity events when he can. If he has spare time, the roping comes back into play. “I do rope when I can. I have four or five horses of my own. I’m not the greatest at it, but it’s something I feel I can be pretty decent at down the road. It might be something to fall back on when I quit riding bulls. I also train roping horses. It’s fun and it keeps me busy. I have pretty good ones, so if I got in a bind I could sell them.” Eldred has three brothers, Conner, Cooper, and Destry, and one sister Bailee, none of whom are presently in rodeo. His older brother used to compete in rodeo, but he does not any longer. His two younger brothers wrestle and are football players, and his sister

plays college basketball. “Actually, one of my brothers is going to wrestle in college this next year, so we are all athletes; we just have our own sports.” While they might have their own sports now, Brennon played basketball, baseball, and football while in high school, and was also a pretty good wrestler. From the age of six to eleven, he won the Oklahoma Kids Wrestling Association State Championship two times, and also finished second at Nationals. Last year Eldred was second in both the WNFR standings as well as the PRCA world standings, and if he gets to the Finals this year he would certainly like to get that coveted title. Then of course, there are those PBR World Finals he is looking at as well. Regardless, whether he makes it to one or both, one thing is for sure; expect him to continue to make a big impression – not to mention a lot of money – when he walks into Vegas. Humps N Horns wants to wish him the very best of luck.

Pacheco is Still the Last Cowboy Standing! Just in case anyone might have doubted his talents, Kaique Pacheco once again proved he is the real deal by becoming the champion of Last Cowboy Standing for the second consecutive year. He was not one of the 13 who covered their bulls in the first round, but a minimum of 25 riders were set to move into Round 2, so 12 spots

had to be filled. Those were selected according to the BFTS world standings, clinching a place for Pacheco, who was in second place in those standings. Last Cowboy Standing took place over two nights in Las Vegas, Friday and Saturday, as part of Helldorado Days, and on each of those nights the crowd was huge and enthusiastic. The format saw Round 1 take place on Friday, so both of Pacheco’s rides came on Saturday night. The 2015 PBR’s Rookie of the Year started his march to victory with an 88-point ride in the second round on Machinery Auctioneer’s Little Joe, owned by Rocking I Rodeo Company. That score landed him in second place, a quarter of a point off the eventual winner, countryman Marco Eguchi. Marco earned an 88.25 on another Rocking I Rodeo Company bull, Crazy Horse. Interestingly, Pacheco rode Crazy Horse last year to a huge score of 90.25 in Tucson, Arizona.

Kaique Pacheco becomes the Last Cowboy Standing with this 90 point ride on Spotted Demon (Julio Moreno/ Dallas Schott).

Cody Webster steps in to save Rubens Barbosa at the Last Cowboy Standing.

But it was in the third round that Kaique shined. He was the only man out of the eight that had moved on to ride his bull, and he did it in grand style. Pacheco covered Spotted Demon, a bull owned by Julio Moreno / Dallas Schott for a big 90 score, his first 90-point ride of the season. His English might not be perfect yet, but his shy smile and waves to the fans left no question as to how thrilled he was. After the event Pacheco said that he was very happy to be back in Las Vegas and to ride well. He was especially pleased to win this event again. He thanked everyone who came out to support him, as well as his sponsors for standing behind him. In the first round it was Stormy Wing who took the win. He was able to get the eight seconds on Captain Jack, a Julio Moreno / Dallas Schott bull, and scored an 87.25. Right behind him came the youngster Brennon Eldred. He got an 87 score with another Moreno and Schott bull, Mortimer. Neither Wing nor Eldred rode their second bull, however, keeping them out of the important third round.

Besides Kaique and Eguchi, the remaining six who moved on to ride in Round 3 were Silvano Alves, Derek Kolbaba, Jess Lockwood, Eduardo Aparecido, Cody Nance, and Joao Ricardo Vieira. But in the end, the day belonged to Pacheco and the victory not only gave the young Brazilian the championship for the second year in a row but he picked up 825 world points and a very nice check for $125,000! He also made a huge run at the man leading the BFTS world standings, Aparecido. As they headed into the BFTS summer break, those world points he picked up in Vegas put him a mere 180 points behind Eduardo. That is not all of the accolades bestowed on Kaique, however. He finished up the first half of the BFTS season riding at 57% and has already earned a series best of $304,364.60. And while he was thrilled to be the 2015 Rookie of the Year in his first year on the tour, his goal was to win that award AND be the world champion in the same year. He fell just short of that achievement, finishing second in those world standings behind J.B. Mauney.

Humps-Horns.com ¡ 30 ¡ July 2017

Pacheco came back last year more determined than ever to take home that world title, and again, he came in second, this time beaten by Cooper Davis. It is not that he needs more fire in his belly, but making that big move on Aparecido right before the summer break certainly can’t hurt his attitude or his chances. This gifted 22-year-old has many more successful years in front of him. His fellow bull riders recognize it, as do his many fans. For at least part of the summer break Kaique has returned to Brazil to ride in some events there, but he will be ready to rock and roll here in the States when the BFTS starts up again in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the middle of August.
