It seems this time of year just naturally lends itself to being a time of transition. We reach the end of a school year, students look forward to enjoying a summer break [while parents just keep working and doing what they do every day :)], high school graduates reach the end of one chapter in their lives and prepare to start a different one whether it be going to college, getting a job, serving in the military, and so on. Stacie and I have also reached a time of transition as our youngest daughter is one of those high school graduates so we will soon be empty nesters. It has been a few years since we’ve been able to say that.

Talking “Bull” with Brayden

Hi my name is Brayden Hollywood Brown and I’m a bull rider. Today I’m going to be continuing the best practice pens to go to. So let’s get into it.

have any sheep but they have walk/trot practice calves. There are pee wee, junior, and senior mini bulls, as well as some weaker mini bulls to practice walk/trot. There are a few nice junior and senior steers.

The first one we are going to be talking about today is Culpepper Bucking Bulls. Culpepper Bucking Bulls is located in Cleveland, Texas. Mr. Culpepper bucks pretty regularly on Wednesdays. They have stock for any and all ages and any skill level. You can be 5 - 50 and they will have a bull for you to start on. He doesn’t have sheep like other pens, but instead he has beginner calves. I think starting on calves is a good idea considering more and more professional mutton bustins are being replaced with the walk-trot bulls/calves which is exactly what the Culpeppers have to practice on. Mr. Culpepper also has pee wee, junior, and senior mini bulls as well as Junior and Senior steers.

This practice pen has some of the best junior and senior bulls in my opinion. In fact, when I first started riding junior bulls this was the first practice pen I went to. There is almost always open bulls there for older guys to get on. This practice pen has produced a lot of top youth bull riders riders as well. Most of the riders from Culpeppers ride here, but you may also see Ethan Winckler, Kutter Kaylor, Tristin Donaghue, Hunter Kruiz strap bulls at Kaylor’s pen. These will also be a few names to look up if you would like to see just how stacked their resumes are.

There are a couple practice big bulls and sometimes there are a few big, strong, fast, and ranker big bulls. This pen has produced some top bull riding athletes including Bryson Culpepper, Cooper Fregia, Adrian Flores, Rowen Reyes, Weston McCullough, Rico Russel, and Jabravian Jordan. I recommend looking up these young men to see just how stout their resumes are. This is one of the best East Texas bull riding practices to go to.

Mike Smith - Part II While living in Austin, Texas Mike had set aside his PRCA rodeo career and concentrated on establishing himself within business and Corporate America. Mike’s first job was in sales, selling word processing and dictation systems which nowadays are technology dinosaurs of the past. Change, evolution and technology are always inevitable. From the word processors, the Personal Computer age was born. Mike started his own PC computer business selling them to businesses in Austin and Central Texas. A national telephone company, GTE, recruited Mike for his computer expertise to help them with building a statewide computer network for 10,000 users located in 300 cities in Texas. Eventually, Smith was promoted to branch manager and his coverage area was the State of Texas. Smith oversaw installation, maintenance and repairs. This was actually the new age era of the exploding computer industry and Austin became a hotspot. Demand for new technology grew which encompassed video conferencing, private fiber optic networks and lots of other new technology was introduced every week. Mike was employed by GTE who merged with Bell Atlantic and which later became Verizon. His case load was to select and contract with third party vendors and sub-contractors. GTE and Verizon depended heavily on these contractors to support enterprise business customers worldwide. Mike was on a national team called Complex Solutions Architecture and was assigned to Verizon’s largest customers globally. His personal assignment was to work with customers whose contract values were over 25 million dollars. Smith worked on a team who helped Verizon secure two contracts with a Wall Street stockbroker with locations in 34 countries. What Verizon did for this customer was called a “fork-lift-upgrade” replacing four global networks with one new global network deploying a new routing capability called MPLS (Multiple Protocol Label Switching.) This concept basically meant that a customer could use one network to support all technologies - voice calls, video conferencing, data communications and fiber optic transmissions. The two contracts, domestic and global, were valued at close to one billion dollars. Mike Smith was a very successful computer guy and continued to be promoted up the corporate ladder on a regular basis. In 2011 he accepted an early buyout plan and formally retired from the computer industry. A few years later, Mike and his wife, Cynthia, relocated to Huntsville, Texas where they resided for the next 10 years. The next move was to Weimer, located in Central Texas which is about 30 miles south of LaGrange. Pretty near all of Cynthia’s family had recently retired, purchased land near Weimar, built homes and planted a vineyard.

The next venue was the start of the Whistling Duck Vineyard and Winery. Cynthia was recruited to be the Events Coordinator supporting sales and operations for the winery’s very special events. Mike Smith became very interested in an alternative to pain medications and thus started the research of the cannabis plants. About the same time, CBD oils and its derivatives were being marketing and introduced to the mainstream population. CBD was touted at relieving pain and helping humans with other disorders such as sleep and anxiety. The State of Colorado became one of the first states to legalize the sale of marijuana products and Mike’s niece was working in one of Colorado’s first MMJ dispensaries. Mike toured the growing facility and learned from Erin Smith that people will pay a lot of money for the cannabis plants. In 2020, Mike obtained a license through the Texas Department of Agriculture to legally grow hemp. He worked with a startup software company named Hempliance but it never launched or took off. He began to reach out to other hemp industry experts, worldwide. Hemp had been used as an industrial product for several years in our nation’s past. Livestock were fed hemp routinely. Smith wanted to know if it could safely be used as a feed supplement for livestock and other animals in the US despite the USDA and FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine regulations saying hemp is not safe to feed to animals. He was also very curious to find out if the supplements would affect the performances and decrease the wear and tear on their muscles, joints and bones. Mike is volunteering his time working with Texas universities conducting Hemp Feeding Trials. Looking for exactly the right seed to grow in South Central Texas, after several months he discovered and concluded that the seed needed to be well suited to grow in the 29th parallel latitude in the northern hemisphere. One very smart agriculture expert advised Mike to look for seed genetics in the 29th latitude in the southern hemisphere which is Australia and Tasmania. Mike went on the offensive and after a few months he finally connected with a global company growing hemp in this region. Mike, still working with Hempliance at the time, introduced an interested hemp farming startup located in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. A region that is well-known for its produce and vegetable farming. This one company planted 10 acres of the Australian variety ECO – MS77 which grew to over 20 feet tall, grown for the intent of decorticating the fiber from the plant for use in textiles and many other products. Hemp can replace carbon fiber as a light-weight material for a car body. The fiber comes from the outside of the stalk and the inside yields hurd. Hurd is being used for animal bedding worldwide and now in the United States to a limited degree based upon low supply. Mike reiterated that he saw a post from Ecofibre recently that the farmers in “The Valley” have planted 1,400 acres this year. A new industry has now been born in The Valley. This industry offers a bright future for all of us due to the extremely low

carbon foot print. Even Wrangler® Western Wear is now utilizing hemp fiber in some of its blue jean products. Smith turned his interest to the animal feed potential. Mike found a hemp farmer, Monte Robertson, living in Del Norte, Colorado which is a part of Colorado’s San Luis Valley. Through lots of growing, hard work, and investment of time and money for extraction and other hemp processing equipment, Robertson (www.sturdyhorse. com) figured out that the ideal component of the plant was to use the seed making a hemp seed meal for livestock. Currently, due to the USDA and FDA regulations, it is not permitted to be fed to livestock that will eventually end up on the consumer’s plate. Horses and bucking bulls are not a part of the food chain supply in the United States. Mike and Monte partnered and have been supplying hemp seed meal to some Texas universities for feeding trials. There hasn’t been enough research and they have no idea of the effects to the human population after eating meat from feedlot cattle that were fed hemp seed meal. Hemp feeding trials are being conducted at many universities located in several states. The animal science departments at Texas A&M University and Tarleton State University have established controlled feeding programs. The research is currently still ongoing concerning the necessary data and reporting of the laboratory results of the hemp product being fed to livestock. Lance Smith, no relation, a graduate student from Tarleton is working on this the bucking stock feeding project for his Master’s degree. Cody Raspberry located in Stephenville, Texas has volunteered to supply 40 head of top PBR bred bulls that are being fed hemp seed meal as an alternative to one or more ingredients present today in our traditional livestock feed. Part of the argument is that bucking bulls even after they are no longer used for rodeo events are used for breeding or put to rest on the ranch in honor of their past performance record. Thus, there is never a risk of passing on any CBD, THC or cannabinoids through our food chain. So the goal is to get approval from the State of Texas, the USDA and the FDA so we can all feed hemp seed meal to specific livestock. Currently some women in the barrel racing industry are feeding hemp seed meal to their horses. After watching the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes a few weeks ago, I suggested to Mike that if he were to ever get permission and approval to be involved with the race horse industry that he would eventually become a multi-millionaire. We all know that there is a lot more money involved in the race horse industry than rodeo. Just ask Carl Nafzger who was a past NFR bull rider who is now a well-known trainer in the racing horse industry.

While in Huntsville, Mike had met Sammy’s wife Jacel Andrews, a rodeo secretary. This relationship led to a business proposition involving The Whistling Duck and the Andrews Rodeo Company. Jacel called Mike asking about whether the winery would be interested in putting Andrews Rodeo Company infamous bucking bull #J31 Bodacious on a special wine label. Previous to this, Bodacious had already been featured on a special chili powder mix. The Whistling Duck Winery concurred. Then Mike had to find the winery a label for the wine. He called an old friend, a bull rider and nationally known western artist, Roger Langford. Roger specializes in pencil drawings. Roger sent Mike three drawings and one was chosen to represent the new Bodacious Wine. Cynthia wrote the text for the back label, Bodacious “The Master of Disaster” a moniker that was started by PRCA Hall of Fame rodeo announcer Bob Tallman. The wine is aged in special bourbon barrels and is being sold nationwide to the rodeo fans. At the 2021 San Antonio PRCA rodeo, the Bodacious brand wine received a Gold Label award for its outstanding taste and quality. The Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs receives a percentage of the Bodacious wine sales. Each bottle of wine sells for about $45.00. Mike Smith has been a volunteer for the Texas Youth Hunting Program promoting and operating many youth hunts in Texas over the past 18 years. The largest youth whitetail deer hunt has been a tradition for over a decade where around 50 young men and women hunt 13 ranches in the Texas Hill Country, “The Cave Creek Super Hunt”. Competing in rodeo, being involved in high tech and growing hemp have all had a major impact in the life of this cowboy. “It’s all a big experiment that we all should do, the reward is in our journey.” In summing up his short but successful bull riding and rodeo career and life, Mike Smith said, “I have received a great deal of enjoyment and pleasure recognizing the outstanding performances of other people and animals that I have met along the way. Something For Nothing

recall a tale I once read in a little book called Bits and Pieces about a young man who received something for nothing.

When Del’s neighbors bought a new car, they gave their old one to him. Luck had changed for the high school senior! With his own set of wheels, he would no longer have to take the bus to school or to his job at the mall. “I’m not sure taking that car is such a good idea,” his dad said to him. “It needs a bit of work. With the money you’ve been saving up for college, why burden yourself with the unnecessary expense?”

Still others want religion to be free from ties. They don’t want to be strapped to a set of rules and regulations. One person put it this way, he wanted ‘The Man without the Plan.’ Sorry, but Christianity is not free. There is a price for being a Christian. We are told to study to show ourselves approved unto God. We are also told to teach his word to the world in the great commission of Matt. 28:19, 20. Jesus even says that we may have to lay our life on the line for His cause. No, there is a price for everything that comes our way, even the free stuff. If you would like to know more about God’s Word then come and let us reason together the ways of our Lord. In His Love, Keno

But Del thought, “How expensive can it be? I got it for free!” Then the problems started. First, there was the flat tire that made him late for a special after-school program he’d just joined. His tardiness cost him: He was dropped from the program. Then one morning his car blew a head gasket on his way to school and he missed taking an important exam. The teacher wouldn’t let him make up the exam, and so Del’s grade suffered in that class. Finally, the car just died while Del was on his way to work. He had taken so much time off previously to deal with the repairs on his car that his manager felt Del wasn’t ready for the responsibility of a job. By this time Del had already depleted his college savings, and now he would no longer be earning the money he needed to keep the car running. He never imagined that his neighbors’ gift could cause him so much trouble; after all, it was free. Del learned a hard lesson: We pay a price for everything, even when it’s free. While Del was not attempting to gain something for nothing, he still learned a valuable lesson. And as you know we have always heard that you cannot get something for nothing. Everything always comes with a price, even the free stuff. Have you noticed how many people want something, but are unwilling to put forth an effort to obtain what they want? Just look how many are playing the lottery these days; hoping to too hit it big, and never work again.

Grilled Potato Wedges INGREDIENTS • 4 large Idaho or russet potatoes, cut into wedges • 2 tsp. garlic powder • 1 tsp. kosher salt • 1 tsp. freshly ground black pepper • 1/2 c. extra-virgin olive oil • 2 tbsp. freshly chopped herbs (parsley or rosemary)

INSTRUCTIONS 1. Bring a well-salted pot of water to a boil, then add potatoes and cook about 5 to 7 minutes. Don’t boil too long or the potatoes will become too mushy and fall apart on the grill. 2. Drain and let cool slightly. 3. Heat grill to medium-high and oil grates. In a large bowl, mix together garlic powder, salt, and pepper, then stir in olive oil. Add potatoes and toss gently to coat. Remove potatoes from oil and reserve excess oil in bowl. 4. Grill potatoes, flipping once, until golden brown, about 5 minutes. 5. Add herbs to excess oil mixture, then return potatoes to the mixture and toss again.

PBR World Finals Recap With the PBR World Finals moving from the familiar city of Las Vegas that had been their home for 28 years, Daylon Swearingen walked into Fort Worth, Texas, on top of the leader board but the race was close. Heading into Round 1, Daylon was a mere 8.99 points ahead of Joao Ricardo Vieira. After seven hard-fought days and eight rounds, riding six straight bulls, and scoring three 90+ rides, he found himself hoisting that coveted PBR trophy (now the Jerome Robinson Cup), the gold buckle, and a whopping $1,394,000 check! Oh yes, he didn’t just win the World Championship, but the PBR World Finals event title, as well. He became only the seventh man to win both titles in the same season. These World Finals returned to the early Vegas days, when they were held over two weekends. Here is a short round-by-round recap.

Round 1 With a big 90.25 ride on Flapjack (Parker/OK Corralis/Gordon/ D&H Cattle) to tie for second in the round, JRV overtook Swearingen, who bucked off his bull, for the lead in the World Standings. Vieira was trying to become the oldest – at 37 – PBR World Champion. After being rewarded a re-ride, Daylon could not conquer the Jane Clark/Gene Owen bull Lil 2 Train, and bucked off at 5.22 seconds. Round 2 If you wanted to see a lot of big rides, this was the round. Seven men scored 90 and above. The winner was Mauricio Gulla Moreira, who rode the WSM Auctioneers/Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger bull WSM’s Jive Turkey to a giant score of 94.25! Swearingen came back in this round to post a big 93 points on Big Black, owned by K-C Bucking Bulls/Joe and Nina Webb. He placed second in the round, and that still did not get him the lead, as JRV also covered his bull, to stay just ahead of Daylon. The other men who scored 90 or more were Josh Frost, Kaique Pacheco, Luciano de Castro, Jose Vitor Leme, and Cody Jesus. Also in this round, we saw the bulls that were in the running for 2022 Yeti PBR World Champion Bucking Bull. McCoy/Bill McCarty, was able to hold off the 2021 World Champion Bucking Bull, Woopaa. Woopaa did not buck as expected, scoring a 43.25. Round 3 The end of the first weekend completed, and this is where the domination of Swearingen began with a vengeance, and he never looked back. After riding Hey Bartender, owned by JQH Bucking Bulls/Skip & Elaine Jones, to an 89.50 score and second place finish, he overtook Vieira. After the first three rounds, Jesus and Leme joined JRV in riding all their bulls. Also, at this point in the Finals, Jesus was in the lead for the World Finals event win. Round 4 The second section of the Finals began, and Daylon covered his bull, but his score of 85.75 on Train Station, a Winston/Melton/ Stockyards Pro Rodeo bull, left him in seventh place. Still, he had ridden three of four, and he held the lead in the World Standings. JRV was unable to make the eight. This was the second out for those bucking bulls trying to win the title, and Ridin Solo blew the other bulls out of the water. His score of 47, the third highest of the 2022 Finals, kept him on the top of those standings. Jesus remained in the lead for the event win, being the only man to ride all four of his bulls. Round 5 A fourth-place finish with a 91.50 score on Lone Survivor, a bull owned by Whitman Bucking Bulls/Jenkins Cattle Co., not only increased Daylon’s lead in the World Standings, but put him on top of the World Finals event leaderboard, as well.

Leme won this round with a great score of 92.75, proving that he was still not out of the race for a three-peat for that World Title. Leme won in 2020 and 2021. Round 6 While Daylon continued to cover his bulls (he rode Satan’s Seed, owned by Lucas Manning Bucking Bulls, to an 87.75), Vieira’s struggle to stay on his bulls carried over into this round. JRV bucked off his third dance partner in a row, and he dropped down to third place in the World Standings. Pacheco, broken foot and all, rode his bull and moved past Joao into second place in the World Championship race. Leme was also mathematically in the equation for the run for the title, but those hopes were dashed when he was stepped on in this

Championship Round Kaique knew he had to ride his bull to have a chance at the World Title, and his turn came before Daylon’s. He bucked off Manaba, owned by Joe & Nina Webb/Julian/D & H Cattle Co. however, in 5.9 seconds. His hopes of a second PBR World Championship were gone. Swearingen had all the gold in the bank, but make no mistake, he wanted to cover his last bull of the Finals, the Five Star Ranch/BS Cattle bull, Mike’s Magic. The bull put him down in short order, but once on that stage accepting all that went with being a World Champion, his enthusiasm was palpable. The Championship Round also crowned the 2022 Yeti PBR World Champion Bull. Once again, Ridin Solo bucked his heart out, scoring another big 47 points. There was no doubt as to who won this important title. It was hard for Daylon to put into words just what the accomplishment meant to him. But at only 22 years of age, there was still no doubt that he knew how to accomplish his goal. “It’s just exciting,” Daylon said. “Every bull mattered. At his retirement announcement before the Finals began, he had this to say. “I’m just trying to keep those feelings down. We have work to do between now and then, I definitely want to focus on that and take care of the guys. But man, I feel like the most blessed guy in the world. I get to work with guys like Cody (Webster) and Lucas (Teodoro), and Jesse (Byrne), and all the way down; from Jimmy Anderson, to Joe Baumgartner. All through the years I’ve gotten to work with great partners. “My kids have had great lives because of the money I’ve been able to bring home to them. I’m married to the woman I love, and Jesus Christ is my Savior, and he’s forgiven me for a lot.” But while Frank was looking forward to working his last PBR Finals, things took a different turn. While spectating at a performance of the Ultimate Freestyle Bullfighting, Newsom jumped into action after a bullfighting competitor got in trouble. While there is no doubt that Frank kept the fallen bullfighter from more serious injury, he himself was seriously injured; so much so, that he could not work his last Finals. Are we surprised? 612 Ridin Solo is your 2022 PBR YETI World Champion Bull. Congratulations go out to owners Cord McCoy and Bill McCarty. Solo clinched the PBR Yeti World Champion Bull title by outscoring last year’s champion and main contender 124 Woopaa and brought home the $100,000 bonus with a final world average bull score of 46.47. Woopaa’s world average bull score was 45.78. After trading first place back and forth for several weeks, these two top contending bovine athletes entered the PBR World Finals tied for first place. What a fitting way for the PBR Yeti World Bull Championship “battle of the bovines” to continue!

Lookin back, Woopaa left the Tulsa event on April 16 in first place, after bucking twice. Austin Richardson rode him for 94.50 points and a bull score of 46.25. Then he dumped Dalton Kasel in 7.20 seconds for a bull score of 46. Woopaa headed home to rest up for the PBR World Finals starting May 13. Ridin Solo bucked off Bob Mitchell (the newly crowned 2022 PBR Rookie of the Year) in Tulsa in 5.52 seconds for a bull score of 45, leaving him in second place in the standings. Ridin Solo went home for a week, then traveled all the way to Billings to buck twice in the last regular season event on April

Joao Ricardo Vieira takes on Ridin’ Solo, who was scored 47 points, in the Championship Round of the PBR World Finals at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, TX. 29 and 30. Cord McCoy hoped to increase Solo’s average going into the Finals. At the 15/15 Bucking Battle in Billings, he bucked off Eli Vastbinder in 4.08 seconds for a bull score of 45.25. Solo then needed a bull score of 46.50 in the championship round to retake first place going into the PBR Finals. Solo bucked off Cody Jesus in 5.50 seconds for a bull score of 46.25, falling just short of what was needed to retake the lead from Woopaa. But Solo’s score was enough to tie Woopaa, so they entered the PBR Finals in a dead heat for first place. Because of the tie, Woopaa’s owners Larry Barker and Laramie Wilson split the $25,000 regular season top bull bonus with Solo’s owners Cord McCoy and Bill McCarty. Cord labeled Ridin Solo as the Road Warrior this year. Solo made 13 trips and logged almost 20,000 miles. “Solo has been a road warrior this year,” Cord shared. “I applaud Solo. He’s been through deserts and blizzards, and he’s traveled from New York City to Glendale, from Milwaukee to Tulsa, and from Fort Worth to Everett and Tacoma! I’m his number one fan! It’s an honor to flank him and prep him for the most exciting sport in the world!” According to Probullstats.com, Ridin Solo was 16-3 for the season, with a buck off percentage of 81.25%. He was the YETI “Built for the Wild” Bull of the Event three times, once in St. Louis, once in Little Rock, and once in Everett. Solo also had the highest bull score of the season when he was scored 47.5 points in Little Rock after he bucked off Dalton Kasel in 4.65 seconds. It all came down to three outs over two weekends at the PBR World Finals in Fort Worth. The energy in the atmosphere of Dickies Arena was almost electric. PBR Stock Contractor and CBS Sports commentator JW Hart said it best. “The hair was standing up on the back of your neck when you walked in the arena!”

Saturday, May 14, was the first “rank bull night”. CBS commentator Craig Hummer said, “This is the first time they have drafted the rank pen at the World Finals.” That means that the riders all picked the bull they rode based on their standing after round one. Josh Frost selected Ridin Solo and Dalton Kasel chose Woopaa. The battle was on! Josh rode Solo for the full eight seconds and scored 92.75 points. Solo’s bull score was 45. Woopaa outdueled Dalton in 5.64 seconds, but his bull score was only 43.25, which moved Ridin Solo back into first place, with a world average bull score of 46.11. Woopaa’s world average bull score dropped to 45.86. Thursday, May 19, was the second rank bull night. Ezekiel Mitchell drew Solo and 2002 PBR Champion Ednei Caminhas, making a comeback at 46 years old, drew Woopaa. Solo bucked off Ezekiel in 3.35 seconds for a bull score of 47! Woopaa bested Ednei in 3.86 seconds for a bull score of 45.25. Ridin Solo remained in first place, with a world average bull score of 46.22 over Woopaa’s world average bull score of 45.78 Next up was Championship Sunday, which would finally determine which amazing bovine athlete would be crowned the Top Bull of the Toughest Sport on Dirt! Cord McCoy was pretty sure Solo would get a big bull score on Sunday morning. “When we first got to the Finals after Billings, Solo seemed drained,” Cord revealed. “He had been caught in the blizzard that hit Billings and spent some time in the cold there. Then he got to Fort Worth, and it was 100 degrees!” “We stayed with him in the bull housing area at the Finals,” Cord continued, “We worked with him and exercised him, and he got

This gave Ridin Solo the 2022 PBR YETI Champion Bull title before his last out with Joao. Joao climbed aboard Solo and was bucked off in 4.8 seconds. Solo’s bull score was another amazing 47 points, for a final world average bull score of 46.47! Ridin Solo will be busy in the near future. “We have purchased a PRCA Rodeo card,” Cord explained. “We are going to let Solo get his eight outs in the PRCA and hopefully go to the NFR. Then we plan to put him out on the cows for a month or so, then quarantine

him for 180 days so we can go global with his semen.” “It is such a huge honor and a once in a lifetime opportunity to have Ridin Solo win the 2022 PBR YETI World Champion Bull title,” Cord shared. “It’s a big deal, not just for Solo, but it really puts our ranch on the map!”

Western Wanderings a cowboy’s rifle Whether on the ranch or on a drive This cowboy needs his gun To protect me from outlaws and critters Or to kill a deer on the run

I’ve heard stories about that old rifle Passed down from fathers to sons Like the time my great-great grandad Killed a curly wolf with that gun

My rifle is an old lever action A Winchester ‘73 The scabbard is strapped to my saddle Which keeps it handy for me

Alone in the woods when that wolf attacked He was sure he was soon to be dead But he jammed that old rifle into that wolf’s mouth And blew off the back of his head!

It is truly a valued possession Passed down through my family line I usually hit what I aim at Cause that rifle was made real fine

Now I’m not lookin’ for a pack of wolves But there is one thing that I find When my rifle is loaded and ready It gives me great peace of mind

It’s a 44-40 centerfire That has long been put to the test Folks say that this model of rifle Was the “Gun that won the West!”
