Letter from the Editor
As I write this column, the PBR is only a week or two away from the conclusion of the 2016 regular season and the PBR Finals is just around the corner in Las Vegas. It seems like it was not too long ago when we kicked off the season on a cold, wintry weekend in Chicago. But as they say, time flies when you’re having fun! The race for the world championship appears to be one of the most compelling to watch in recent history since the leaderboard is stacked with so many worthy competitors and several who have a legitimate shot at becoming the 2016 World Champion. Will J.B. Mauney be able to go back to back in 2016 and win his third world title? Or will one of the young guns continue their quest to the pinnacle of the bull riding world? The Humps N Horns team will be in Las Vegas to bring you the most up to date coverage of the BlueDef Tour and PBR World Finals. Be sure to like our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter for the updates throughout Finals week. If you venture out to Vegas to join the fun, be sure to stop by the HNH booth at the PBR Fan Zone at the SouthPoint Hotel and Casino or on the concourse at the T-Mobile Arena during the performances. As we enter a season of giving thanks, I would also like to say “Thank you” to each and every one of you for your support of Humps N Horns. As Stacie and I conclude our first year at the helm of this great magazine, we are truly grateful for all of you. We have enjoyed meeting many of you at the events around the country and look forward to meeting those we haven’t had the privilege to meet yet in the coing months. We are looking forward to many more years together as we continue to provide the best coverage possible for the bull riding industry.

collagen and proteoglycans. In the rebuilding of cartilage at the joints, it is important for the body to be able to produce enough collagen.
How to Eat to Rebuild Cartilage in Joints
Cartilage serves a number of different functions in the body. For the joints, it acts as a pad to reduce friction and prevent damage. Over time, cartilage can be damaged and deteriorate. When this occurs, the bones no longer have the protection that they need at the joint, and it can result in pain, inflammation and a lack of mobility. A lack of cartilage at a joint will result in osteoarthritis. This condition can affect any joint, but it is especially common in the knees, hips, wrists, and elbows. To address conditions surrounding cartilage injury and deterioration, doctors may offer a number of solutions. They might recommend pain management strategies, supplements, physical therapy, and in severe cases, they might recommend surgery. In addressing cartilage loss or damage, the body needs to be able to rebuild the tissue structures at the joint. To do this, you will need to have the right nutrients in your diet. To produce the fibers that make up cartilage, you need to ensure that you have a balanced diet that provides all of the necessary nutrients for building the tissue fibers in cartilage. For people that suffer from the pain that comes with cartilage loss, there are a number of foods that can be used to help your body rebuild the cartilage at joints. The Importance of Collagen In the body, you have different types of cartilage. The type of cartilage found in the joints is hyaline cartilage. Unlike most other tissue structures in the body, cartilage does not have blood vessels or nerves. The articular cartilage of the joints is made from a matrix of fibers. The principle composition of this matrix is made up of water,
Collagen is one of the most common proteins in the body. It is made up of amino acids like glycine and proline. For the body to produce the collagen needed to repair joints, the individual will have to consume the nutrients that are needed for the production of these amino acids. While supplements can help to provide some of the nutrients that you will need, getting them through your regular diet can be beneficial. Nutrients that can help the body to rebuild cartilage include vitamin C, Vitamin B3, Copper, Iron and vitamin A. The following information will cover each of these nutrients indepth. Vitamin C Ascorbic acid, more commonly known as “vitamin C”, is one of the most important nutrients for human health. As an antioxidant, vitamin C helps the body to combat the effects of free radicals, and it is one of the key nutrients for the repair and growth of tissue throughout the body. Vitamin C plays an important role in the production of collagen, so it is important to ensure that you are meeting your daily requirements for this nutrient. While it is rare for a person to experience a severe vitamin C deficiency, many people do not get enough in their regular diet. If you are trying to rebuild the cartilage at your joints, even a minimal deficiency can make a difference. In getting enough nutrients for joint repair, vitamin C should be one of the easiest for which the individual can find sources. You have all of your citrus fruits like oranges and lemons, and you can get vitamin

C from broccoli, snow peas, cabbage, potatoes, guava, papaya, and strawberries. This list is just a beginning; there are several foods that can be a good source of vitamin C. The important point to consider is your daily recommended intake. For adult males, it is 90mg of vitamin C per day, and for adult females, it is 75mg.
For both adult males and females, the recommended daily intake for copper is about 2mg. Adults should not exceed 10mg of copper as their daily intake.
Vitamin B3
Iron is one of the most important minerals for human health. Along with copper, iron helps with the production of red blood cells and it is a key factor in the body’s ability to transport oxygen through the circulatory system. Iron is also one of the necessary components in the production of collagen in the body.
Vitamin B3, also known as Niacin, is a nutrient that can help with the repair of cartilage. Typically, vitamin B3 is associated with the role that it plays in the digestive system, helping the body to breakdown fats and proteins, but it also assists in the production of collagen. In the developed world, serious niacin deficiencies are rare. Niacin deficiency is often associated with alcoholism, and it can lead to a number of side effects. However, with the role that it plays in the production of collagen, even a slight deficiency can hinder the healing process. Most doctors would not recommend a niacin supplement. This is especially true for people that have problems with the liver. If you are looking for natural sources of vitamin B3 that you can introduce into your diet, you could try liver, mushrooms, tuna, salmon, mackerel, bran, oatmeal, and squash. When increasing your uptake of vitamin B, you want to be careful not to get too much. The recommended daily intake for this nutrient is 16mg for adult males and 14mg for females. A person should try to stay below 35mg of niacin per day. Any more than this can cause health problems. Copper Copper plays a vital role in the production of red blood cells. In addition to assisting with the production of red blood cells, it is also important for the health of the immune system, as well as the body’s ability to control inflammation. Copper also helps in the production of collagen and shows promise for the treatment of arthritis and the rehabilitation of joint injuries. Not only does copper assist in the regeneration of tissue in the joint area, but it also allows the cartilage structures to rebuild more efficiently since it helps the body control inflammation. If you want to introduce more copper to your diet, you could try shellfish, potatoes, whole grains, prunes, leafy greens, and liver.
Iron
Iron deficiencies and iron overload are some of the most common health problems. The body needs iron for a number of processes, but an overload can cause health problems. Getting enough iron is important for cartilage regeneration, but an overload can cause joint problems. As a person that is looking to increase their iron intake, there are a number of foods that can act as a great source of dietary iron. Among the best sources of iron, you will find liver, shellfish, and spinach. For additional sources of iron, you could try oats, prunes, lima beans, and yogurt. For iron, the recommended daily intake is 8mg for adult males and 18mg for adult females. The maximum daily intake for all adults should be below 45mg, and for women over 50, the recommended daily intake drops to 8mg. Vitamin A When most people think of vitamin A, they think of the importance that it has for their vision. While this is one of the key benefits of vitamin A, it also plays an important role in stimulating the growth of cell structures throughout the body. Studies have also shown that vitamin A can assist with the production of cartilage. With the role that vitamin A plays in the production of cartilage, anyone who is trying to rebuild joint cartilage needs to make sure that they are getting enough. For adult men, the recommended daily intake for vitamin A is 900 micrograms per day. For women, the recommended intake is 700 micrograms per day. For both men and women, the daily intake of vitamin A should not exceed 3000 micrograms per day. If you are looking for foods that are good sources of vitamin A, you will primarily look to vegetables. Among the best sources of this nutrient, you have sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, liver, fish, and squash. Published by Real Time Pain Relief.

Thanks to a Crooked Grocer If it hadn’t been for a grocer who cheated his customers, Jim Penney might have become the owner of grocery store rather than the owner of a chain of department stores. As a teenager, Jim Penney worked for a grocer in Hamilton, Missouri. He liked the work and decided to make a career of it. But one night he came home and told his family about how the grocer was, as he put it, “hoodwinking” his customers. For instanced, he explained, “The grocer would mix low quality coffee with the most expensive brands, thus increasing his profits.” Penney laughed as he told the story at the supper table. But his father didn’t think it was funny. “Tell me,” the father said, “if the grocer found someone palming off an inferior article on him for the price of the best, do you think he would laugh about it.?” Young Jim could see that his father was disappointed in him and he replied, “I guess not. I guess I just didn’t think about it that way.” Jim’s father told him to go to the grocer the next day and collect what ever money was due him and tell the grocer that he was leaving his employ. Jobs were not plentiful at the time, but Mr. Penney made it clear that he would rather see his son unemployed than to be associated with a crooked businessman. That was the end of young Penney’s career in the grocery business. He subsequently got a job in a dry goods store and the rest is history. So often the people we associate ourselves with dictate our behavior, and God knew this; that is the reason He has commanded that His children remove themselves from the evil of this world. God not only desires this, He commands it, and because He has commanded it, He has shown us the way to go. Therefore, I invite you to come and let us reason together the ways of our Lord, that we might know the more perfect way. In His Love, Keno

As Another Year Comes to a Close by Jill vanEgmond If you are a bull rider or bullfighter and get injured where do you go? At a recent event I attended, one of the riders was injured and busted open his head, while simultaneously fracturing his ankle. The ambulance was standing by for just such a situation and this cowboy, when he regained consciousness, refused to allow the ambulance to take him to the hospital since he had no insurance and couldn’t pay the bill. He waited for someone to be able to take him to the emergency room ending up with thirty six stitches in his head and a walking cast for his fractured ankle. He didn’t know about Rider Relief Fund. At the same event I met a beautiful young woman who was there with her husband and two little boys. Her husband was competing and they had driven all night from Louisiana to make it in time for rider check-in. As we were talking and she was learning about the organization, she exclaimed, “why didn’t I know this existed? I love this and we sure could have used it when my husband broke his jaw riding at another event. You could hear it when it broke and it had to be wired shut. I was pregnant and not working. If it wasn’t for his boss giving him a week’s paid vacation unexpectedly, I don’t know what we would have done.” She didn’t know about Rider Relief Fund. In some of my visits I have learned that many people think Rider Relief Fund helps only PBR riders and that is a misconception. In 2016 alone Rider Relief Fund has helped riders from the following organizations; SEBRA, SRA, IPRA, ABT, PRCA, NDRA, CPRA, BRC, UPRA, CBR, Texas Youth Circuit, and accredited bull riding schools. We have also helped riders that don’t belong to any organization, but were riding at a sanctioned event. Also in 2016 Rider Relief Fund has committed to over $95,000 in financial assistance payments for living expenses and will pay more than that by the end of the year to help pay off medical bills after negotiations are finished. Requests for assistance are up more than 65 percent as this article is being written than in the entire year of 2015 and some of the injuries incurred have been; clavicle fracture, dislocated shoulder, broken neck, fractured vertebra, broken fibula, broken foot, knee injuries, broken jaws, broken femur and a spinal injury resulting in paralysis. There is a reason they call bull riding the toughest sport on dirt. These men get beat up, banged up and bruised up, but it is the cowboy way and they are tough. There is an ethos in the sport, you don’t complain, you just do your job.
What does the electrician, construction laborer, ranch hand or car mechanic, all of whom are working hard during the week to earn a living; riding or fighting on the weekend because it is their passion and it helps supplement his income to support him and his family, do when he is injured? When a cowboy makes his living as a bull rider or bullfighter, paychecks stop when they can’t ride. Where do they turn? Rider Relief Fund. As another year comes to a close, we reflect on all that you, our supporters, have done to allow us to continue our mission. Rider Relief Fund was founded with one mission, to assist athletes, bull riders and bullfighters, injured in the competitive sport of bull riding. This is extended to all who have been injured, in any organization, in any sanctioned event. During the upcoming season of generosity and goodwill we ask that you consider Rider Relief Fund in your giving. Six weeks after World Finals is over the new season starts with a new list of injuries and cowboys needing a helping hand. Rider Relief Fund will be there to provide assistance to those who participate in the sport we all love and take their lives in their hands every time they get on a bull. We ask you for a helping hand. Your support makes a direct impact and we couldn’t do it without you.

If you look in the dictionary for the definition of the word “cowboy”, you’ll read “a man who rides a horse and whose job it is to take care of cows or horses. A man who performs in a rodeo. One having qualities of aggressiveness and independence, who does things that other people consider dangerous”. Continue reading and you will likely find an additional two-word definition: “Cord McCoy”. Being a cowboy is not just what you do, it is about who you are. Cord McCoy is truly the cowboy’s cowboy. He has a huge resume of accomplishments that alone qualify him as Hall of Fame worthy. But who he is and what he has overcome sets Cord in a category labeled “this cowboy is really something special”. Besides that, he’s a red head!
Cord rode his first rodeo calf at the age of five and has been going full bore ever since. “Cord is a road warrior,” Denny McCoy, Cord’s dad, shared in a recent PBR interview. “He never got too much of it. From the time he was in high school he was competing in three or four rodeos every week. He just never burnt out.” Cord won several High School National titles and got a full rodeo scholarship tp Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where he graduated in 2003 with a degree in business. He competed at the professional level in bull riding, bareback and saddle bronc riding, winning five International Professional Rodeo Association World Champion titles.
Humps-Horns.com · 20 · November 2016
“I’m addicted to the competition,” Cord revealed. “The love of competition is what drives me. My whole life I’ve made a living competing. I went from high school sports to bronc riding and bull riding, to The Amazing Race and now to raising bucking bulls.” Cord and his brother, Jet, are well known for their second place finish on The Amazing Race 16. They also returned for The Amazing Race 18: Unfinished Business and The Amazing Race 24: All-Stars. “Cord has had several injuries that doctors called ‘career-ending’,” Jet said in a recent PBR interview. “He’s had all kinds of broken bones and a crushed skull. But that never stopped him. As soon as he was healed up, he was back riding.” In 2004, Cord was kicked in the head by a bucking bronc at a PRCA rodeo in Oklahoma City. That crushed his skull and nearly cost him his life. He was in a coma for three days and spent the next eight months in rehab learning how to walk and talk again. But Cord’s sheer grit, determination and love of competition got him back in the arena where he qualified for the National Finals Rodeo in 2005. Cord has taken the phrase “cowboy up” to a whole new level.
be able to walk away from riding. It has been such an honor to ride at the top level of our sport. But it’s not exactly a retirement. I still get the urge to ride all the time. But the tough thing about bull riding is that the bigger your ranch gets, the more it requires your attention. You have to split your focus. Bull riding requires that you be all in or all out. Bull riding is dangerous enough when you are giving it 100%.” “The very last event I competed in was J.W. Hart’s Invitational,” Cord added. “It was also a classic competition and I had a bull named Wedding Bells entered. I didn’t win any money riding that night, but that bull got me a check for $3,000! I knew right then that I was making the right decision. Wedding Bells went on the the PBR Finals.”
Cord made the decision to compete solely in bull riding in 2006. “There was more money to be made in the Professional Bull Riders,” Cord explained. He went on to qualify for the PBR Finals six times before hanging up his bull rope in 2013. Transitioning from bull riding to stock contracting may seem like quite a jump, but not so much for Cord. He has been raising his own bucking bulls since he was in junior high. Cord basically just walked out of one full time job into another. “My older brother, Justen, was a stock contractor in high school, when I was just five or six years old,” Cord shared. “That really sparked my interest in raising bucking bulls. My dream was to be a rodeo cowboy and a stock contractor.” “Many cowboys have had to quit because of injuries,” Cord observed. “It was good for me to

Cord and his wife, Sara, own McCoy Ranch in Tupelo, Oklahoma, just about a mile down the road from Cord’s mom and dad, Janet and Denny. “The competition has transferred over to the bucking bull business,” Cord noted. “Our main business is raising bucking bulls, competing with them, and then selling them to the top stock contractors. If there are a couple of bulls that look really good and we want to keep them for the PBR, we sell a half interest in them to folks we know that are interested in the bucking bull stock contracting business.” “I was really blessed to marry a cowgirl,” Cord continued. “If I have to be on the road, there’s not a thing on the ranch that Sara can’t do.” “We’ve got a couple of bulls I’m excited about that are headed to the PBR Finals in Vegas,” Cord revealed. “Call The Law and Yeti’s Ice
Breaker are two of the best bulls I’ve ever raised. Next year will be an exciting year for them.” “As stock contractors and breeders, we are constantly looking for ways to make our bulls perform better than the other guys bulls,” Cord concluded. “We’re always thinking and planning how to be better. The bull business train is moving. The breeding, feeding and training programs are progressing every year. The money just keeps getting bigger and better. I’m Professional Bull Riding’s biggest fan. Whether riding or stock contracting, it’s an addiction. I know I will be involved in bull riding for the rest of my life. I am just very thankful to be part of bull riding.”

A Look at the 2016 PBR World Finals Race With just two events left before the 2016 PBR World Finals, the race for the gold buckle has certainly heated up. As of this writing, the top three are last year’s Rookie of the Year Kaique Pacheco, Cooper Davis, and the two-time reigning World Champion, J.B. Mauney. Sitting in fourth and fifth are Joao Ricardo Vieira and young Jess Lockwood. While that world title would be a difficult task for J.R. and Lockwood, it is not beyond the realm of possibility. With 34 BFTS events attended and a riding percentage of 50.59%, Pacheco is sitting pretty. Kaique has won four events this season, including the important Last Cowboy Standing. He is leading second place Davis by 490.33 points. In Eugene, Oregon, the softspoken Kaique won the 15/15 Bucking Battle, which earned him 150 points. He also won the second round. With youth and health on his side, Pacheco will make it tough for the others to catch him. He did not help himself in Nampa; however, where he was not able to put any points on the board to increase his lead. In contrast, Davis and Mauney went on the attack at the DeWalt Guaranteed Tough Invitational in Nampa, Idaho. Kaique’s closest competitor Cooper, at 22 years of age, is also young and hungry. Davis, who won the World Finals event last year, wants to move up the ladder this time. He has only ridden in 26 BFTS events, and has a 50% riding percentage. Cooper has two victories on the tour this season. He had the misfortune of having to undergo surgery in midSeptember to repair a broken right clavicle. But Davis made this decision, rather than just sitting out and letting it heal. It was better to have it surgically repaired, so it would be stronger for the Finals.
The bone is now held together with a plate and three screws, and even though Cooper was not happy about missing two events, he was able to come back to the arena in the time frame that he anticipated. He rode two of three bulls in Oregon and headed off to Nampa. Once there, he won a round and was second in another. He finished up second in the event overall, making a run at Pacheco. He also was able to add some points to keep J.B. from getting a lot closer. Two-time BFTS world champ Mauney is not only looking for a consecutive World Champion buckle, but the chance to be a threetime World Champion. While there was a time when J.B. would ride through anything and everything, today his eye is on the big prize. He has ridden in the least number of BFTS events, a mere 25. Still, he has a great riding percentage of 55%! Mauney has been out off and on since he suffered a hip pointer and abdominal bruise in Tulsa. Injuries in both Charlotte and Springfield put him on the sidelines again, and while he did say that he is feeling better, he chose to refrain from competing in Eugene. That decision gave him at least one more week to heal up and be as healthy as possible for Vegas. J.B. made his return in Nampa the second weekend of October, and some competitors might have wished he remained out for another event. Mauney came back with a vengeance, going two for three, and winning the Championship Round, being the only man to cover his bull. He scored a huge 92.50 on Stone Sober, the D&H Cattle Co. / Buck Cattle Co. bull, and picked up 505 points. Although this was Mauney’s first BFTS event win this season, he

has also won three 15 / 15 Bucking Battles, and placed second four times. Two of those were in big events; the Iron Cowboy and Last Cowboy Standing. Even though Cooper was second in the Nampa event, this big victory allowed J.B. to close the gap between himself and Davis. Both men gained ground on Pacheco who, as previously mentioned, did not either increase his lead or keep it the same. In fourth is Vieira. The 2013 Rookie of the Year has ridden in 33 events in the BFTS and has a riding percentage of 44.05. He has won two events this season. This year however, he has had a repeat of last season, as he has not been able to remain injury-free. A slight bicep tear had slowed down his plans for the summer, but he is now feeling strong and ready to move up in the standings. He won Rumble in the Rockies the last weekend of September. In Nampa, J.R. suffered the same fate as his Brazilian countryman Kaique. He was unable to put any points on the board, making no
gain on the three leaders. The ability to fulfill his desire for a world title became a lot tougher task to achieve. With one win on the BFTS for Lockwood and a riding percentage of 50%, Jess is obviously one of the young guns to watch. Jess also has four strong second-place finishes since the beginning of September, so he is starting to peak at the right time. This talented rider is also in the lead for the Rookie of the Year title. To top it all off, it also just happens to be the first time Lockwood has been in the top five in the BFTS standings as well – quite an achievement. So it certainly appears that this World Title race will come right down to the wire, and PBR fans are in store for a great Finals. There is not a better way to end the season; an exciting competition for all the glory and a new venue, the T-Mobile Arena right on the Strip of Las Vegas. Plan to join us for the fun!

THE TOUGHEST SPORT ON DIRT
Oh, Those Rookies!
By Barbara Pinnella
While the PBR Rookie of the Year race finds Jess Lockwood with a firm hold on the lead, this is a sport where anything can, and often does, happen. But Lockwood has been blazing in his first year on the tour, proving that fact by sitting in fifth position in the BFTS standings. In addition to that, the top three rookies in the running are each in the top 15 of the BFTS standings. The man who is sitting second in those rookie standings, Wallace Vieira de Oliveira, is sitting in the 12th position, while Derek Kolbaba, third in the rookie standings, is in the 13th slot. Those are good showings for these three men. For the 19-year-old Lockwood, this has been a great season. While competing on the BFTS tour, he has two 90-point rides and one ride where he was given a 90.50. Riding on the BlueDEF tour he had two more on back-to-back days, one for 92 and the other for 93. He has a total of four wins in PBR events.
Jess gives a lot of the credit for his success to Cody Lambert and Justin McBride, who have helped him a lot with his mental game. “They know that I know how to ride; it’s more the mindset when you get to the big leagues. If you’re at the BFTS events you know how to ride by that point.” Jess grew up in a rodeo family. His father Ed rode some bulls in high school, but turned to bronc riding and never looked back, becoming a successful professional bronc rider in the PRCA. He won the 1992 Montana Pro Rodeo Circuit Championship. His son took to the bull riding trail instead, and was strong right off the bat. He dominated at the high school level and won several state titles. “Some people are surprised that I’m a bull rider and not a bronc rider, but I’ve always liked the bulls. Dad used to put on some PBR

bull ridings back when I was tiny and I fell in love with it then. I’ve never even tried riding broncs, to be honest. They kind of scare me.” De Oliveira trails Lockwood by 1190.83 points in the race for Rookie of the Year, and is 18 years older than Jess. But at 37 years of age, that does not mean he is lacking in drive, desire, nor talent. The Brazilian has won two PBR events this season.
“I knew I had the potential to ride well and to be competitive on these bulls. My objective is to ride another three or four years in the PBR, and to ride as many bulls as possible. I don’t just want to participate; I really want to conquer as many different bulls as I can.” Competing here in the States is not the same as it is when riding in Brazil, but not for the reason one might think.
His career began in Brazil when he was 10 years old. “My dad would let me ride calves when we lived on the ranch and my dad really had an influence on my love for bull riding. Though it hasn’t been the most expressive, I’ve had a good career in Brazil. I started participating in rodeo events when I was 17 and I was able to win a few events and that’s what I’ve been doing ever since.”
“The difference is the value that’s placed on the sport here in the States. Here bull riding is considered an actual sport, where in Brazil rodeos are just seen as a kind of party, there’s no real respect for the history and complexity of the sport. The focus of any rodeo event in Brazil is the shows – the musical acts, etc. – the bull riders are sort of the second string, and that’s the biggest difference by far.”
Wallace came to the United States to finish out the last few years of his career. He believes that this is where the most prestigious competitions are, and of course, more prize money.
Understandably, de Oliveira knew all of the Brazilian bull riders before he came to the States. He and Valdiron de Oliveira (no relation) traveled together a lot while in Brazil at the start of their careers, so

there is no loneliness – the Brazilians are a close-knit bunch. He and Valdiron are still good friends, and Wallace enjoys pointing out that Valdiron is five days older. Wallace summed things up this way.
Kolbaba has impressed many of the riders he has admired, among them J.W. Harris and Shane Proctor. In fact, Shane has first-hand knowledge of just how good Derek can be. Kolbaba has been going to Proctor’s annual bull riding school since he was 15 years old.
“I just try to do my job the best I can, and I’m going to chase after even more success!”
The young man hailing from Walla Walla, Washington is just one year older than Lockwood, and while the two are friends, they do have a friendly rivalry going on.
Derek Kolbaba sits in the third spot, 1208.33 points behind Jess and 17.50 points from the second spot occupied by de Oliveira. Derek has seven wins in the PBR on the various tours.
It will be a good race for these men. Along with the Rookie of the Year, each will also have their eye on that big event win as well. Come to Vegas and cheer them on!
Derek’s father Kyle was a rider in the PRCA as a bull rider, and it was through him that he learned the basics. “I grew up around it, so it’s definitely there in the blood, for sure. I probably started getting on calves and sheep when I was three, four and five, and just kind of worked my way up from there.”

He certainly did. In 2013 he became the Washington High School State Bull Riding Champion.

The PBR Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour, which began in 2014 as the BlueDEF Velocity Tour and features emerging bull riding talent alongside superstars of the sport, will produce 31 events in 2017 with expansion planned to include up to 60 events by 2019. The Tour currently visits 26 cities in 20 states. Through 16 events in the 2016 season, Tour attendance is up +29% versus last year. “Real Time Pain Relief is proud to be the title sponsor of the PBR’s Velocity Tour,” said Ron Snodgrass, Co-Founder of RTPR LLC. “Professional Bull Riders has been one of America’s fastest growing sports, and the PBR’s plan to triple the size of this Tour fits in with both our commitment to this community and the growth of the Real Time Pain Relief brand.” “The PBR Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Touris an important part of PBR’s growth,” said Sean Gleason, CEO of PBR. “This significant expansion of this series will attract new fans to the sport while providing increased exposure for our sponsors and new opportunities for our riders and stock contractors.” This season, the Tour will continue to operate as the PBR BlueDEF Tour, with its Finals taking place at South Point Arena in Las Vegas on Oct. 29-31, leading into the PBR’s 2016 Built Ford Tough World Finals. The winner of the BlueDEF Finals, the second and third place finishers, the 2016 BlueDEF Tour Champion, and the top International qualifier will each qualify to compete at the PBR World Finals. The Tour will then be renamed the PBR Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour when it bucks 2 weeks later in Ontario, California on November 12th. PBR also announced the Tour’s remaining 2016 dates in addition to the first half of the schedule for the 2017 season. United Futurity League Concludes 2016 Season The United Bucking Bulls, Inc created the United Futurity League in 2015 and has now concluded it’s second consecutive season with the completion of the 2016 UBBI National Finals and UFL Team Finals event in Ada, Oklahoma! At each one of the 6 regular season events, there were 20 teams and 60 different bulls featured. Those bulls could also enter the open UBBI futurity and perform once and the score was counted in both competitions. This year 40 different UFL franchises used 211 different bulls during 6 regular season UFL events. Twenty-five teams participated at this year’s UFL Team Finals and the event paid out $125,000 to the top 10 UFL Team owners.
Jason & Amy Mogg, together with the Jaynes Gang put together a really solid team that posted scores of 86.5 (Just Kidding), 86.75 (Go Blue) and 88 points (Buffalo Scott), for a total of 261.25 points and edged out the second place team by only .25 point! The win came with a check for $41,750! In second place was the team from D&H Cattle Team #2 with Nasty Habit (86.5), Olaf (86.75) and Budakon (87.75), picking up a check for $19,147! All Star Ranch’s team finished in third place with 258.25 points followed by a tie for 4th/5th place with Cord & Sara McCoy/Joe & Nina Webb and D&H Cattle Team #1. Both teams posted total scores of 256.5 points.
“It was a very tough team competition this year at the finals,” stated Randy Schmutz, general manager of the UBBI. “There were 75 bulls in the team competition and 34 of the top 50 UBBI National Finals Futurity bulls were also entered into the UFL Team Finals! That makes for a really tough set of bulls!”
