Wimbleton Drive (Continued)
Your living room is almost done! The progress is amazing. Consider painting the existing record cabinet black or purchase a new one. Above the cabinet, add a vertical/large piece of art. Additionally, add a white, black, or clear vase with a large leaf or single stem plant. As discussed in person, replace the large scale art above the bar cart with a colorful (blues, greens, etc.) landscape print to add some color/texture to that side of the room. Add the new side tables/floor lamp you purchased to the living space, add a cozy rug, and pull furniture a little closer to the fireplace. Continue working with me on a new sofa option when you are ready (check out the new VALLENTUNA line at Ikea). See “Entryway for sconce options.
Entryway
Replace the existing sconces in the living room and entryway. You can do anything in a brass, black , or mix of both (brass is fine since you are keeping the television above the fireplace which is all black). All of the sconces pictured here would work well together between both spaces.
On the focal wall in the entryway (between the two sconces) add an oversized round mirror with a bench underneath (preferably some type of navy or neutral upholstery on the bench). The wood slat one pictured can have any color and type of upholstery. If you go with a brass mirror, choose a predominantly black sconce and if you choose a black mirror, choose a predominantly brass sconce.
On the wall between the office and dining room, add another one of the CB2 shelves (like you have in the living room) to add he ight, storage, etc. This is a good “drop zone for the entry to hold keys, mail, etc. Using the vertical space will be both visually appealing and functional. On the wall to the right of the living room, add a pair of art pieces (one above the other). On the opposing wall, add the large print you currently have over the bar cart in the living room and center it on the hall wall. Reframe it in a contrasting color (brown or black).
Keep your existing rug since the colors are beautiful/vibrant, and it is the perfect size. Long-term, however, consider changing the entryway tile to a slate, limestone, or concrete finish in a light terracotta, gray, or beige color (like your fireplace).
Add some house plants to the right and left of the benc h to fill out the focal wall. Purchase something that doesn’t need a lot of light (like “mother-in-law’s tongue”).
Dining Nook
I think it would be very interesting and eye catching to install a full gallery wall (including the walls to the right and left of the large window wall) existing of only indigo prints and paintings in shades of blue and navy in the dining nook (google “cyanotype prints- they are gorgeous). If you utilize thin, black frames, this will somewhat mimic the black window frames from the living room and add consistency to the two sides of the house. The gallery wall space will add a ton of drama, but feel clean with the monochromatic color theme.
Your chandelier should be something that stands out but does not compete with the artwork. Preferably, the chandelier would use elements of black, brass, or white to coordinate with elements in the other spaces. This piece, however, can really utilize the vertical space and cascade down towards the dining table.
Add a pair of chairs around the table in black or blue (so as to contrast with the wood floor). Adding a new element such as leather or upholstery will also contrast well with the floor and add texture.
Add upholstered seat cushions in gray, linen, or blue to the built-in bench seats.
Finally, add a few house plants (since the natural light is so nice in that space) and a mixture of mud-c loth black, white, and indigo pillows to the bench seating for finishing touches.
So, what’s next?
Whew! That was a lot of information. Now that you have seen the inspiration/recommendations, soak it all in. Let me know if you have any questions. After processing the information, you have a couple of options. ü Call or e-mail to set up an appointment to discuss your likes/dislikes of the design and how we can move forward together with Hunt & Gather managing the project (we would discuss what items you would like to purchase yourself, what we should be hunting for, budget, and timeline). ü Start working on the room on your own (purchasing items, hunting for things, etc.) and only call us when you need clarification, recommendations, or final styling. Remember, the WHY is more important than the WHAT, so if you don’t like a pillow/lamp/etc. that we recommended, find something with similar lines or a similar purpose (or a cheaper price) and consider purchasing that instead! ü Nothing. This wasn’t what you were looking for, and you would like to discontinue working together. Additional pricing for hourly services would be given at follow-up meeting that fit your specific needs. Hope you love the design concept! Can’t wait to hear from you!
