Three Days of Natural Pleasures

Beach, wildlife and wilderness...

National Parks The Central Coast boasts breathing views and wide open natural spaces across seven national parks and numerous local and state reserves. Three not to miss include:

Bouddi National Park This park has a series of small, beautiful beaches beneath forests and steep cliffs. In the eastern section, Maitland Bay is at the heart of the 300 ha Marine Extension, one of the first in NSW where all marine life is protected.

Dharug National Park This park is steeped in history, the historic Old Great North Road is an intact and spectacular example of early 19th century road-building recently acquiring UNESCO World Heritage status. Experience the park’s natural beauty on one of the many walking tracks.

Wyrrabalong National Park Divided into two sections, the park conserves the last significant coastal (littoral) rainforest on the Central Coast. With rocky cliffs & sandy beaches you can enjoy dramatic coastal vistas, explore the varied landscape of the park on the walking tracks and relax at picnic areas.

Day 1:

Jump in the car and head north west out of Sydney towards Wisemans Ferry. At Wiseman’s Ferry you will find our region’s newly awarded UNESCO World Heritage listed site, Old Great North Road. This is one of the 11 convict sites in Australia and is the best preserved example of convict construction. Enjoy the moderately easy walk along the interpretive track. After your walk, head north through the Hinterland towards the Central Coast. Make time for a stop at Mt Penang Gardens where you can explore 11 garden rooms showcasing the weird and wonderful of Australian native flora.

Pick one of the coastal enclaves as your base for your stay; Terrigal has a cosmopolitan feel; Ettalong Beach provides an easy and welcoming atmosphere; and the northern regions of the Central Coast are a nature’s lovers paradise.

Day 2:

Start your day with a breath of fresh air at one of the local eateries, followed by a dip in the ocean, a surf lesson, or dive the Central Coast’s newest attraction, the EX-HMAS Adelaide Artificial Reef. For lunch, stop for a feast of fish and chips before marveling at the Pelican Feeding Show at The Entrance. Head back to your hotel and enjoy a well earned pampering spa or a relaxing dip in the pool.

Day 3:

On the weekend, pay a visit to one of the local markets to taste some of the region’s produce or discover a local treasure. Next head north along the coast and visit Norah Head Lighthouse. Take a tour of the lighthouse and visit the viewing platform to take in stunning ocean panoramas. Whales can be seen frolicking in the water in winter and spring.
