OUR FIRM Since 1978, our commitment to strong, vibrant communities has inspired a wide range of distinctive yet accessible projects throughout Texas and the nation, reflecting our belief that effective planning and architecture reach across economic and social boundaries to touch all who experience them. While we are well-known for being involved with some of Austin’s most iconic institutions over the years such as Whole Foods Market, we are also fortunate to have a long and successful working relationship with a number of community developers. Whether public or private, we favor timeless projects designed with an eye, not on the latest architectural trend or signature style, but on the special needs of our clients and the community at large. As active members of Austin’s “Green Building” program, we are keenly aware of environmental issues and strive to create buildings that enhance the health and well being of both the earth and its inhabitants. We were the architects for Austin’s first large scale, commercial “green” building – the first Whole Foods Market and Corporate Headquarters at 6th and Lamar. All of our projects are guided by the ethical and far-reaching applications of sustainability.

MULTI-FAMILY h+uo architects understands the crucial elements that go into making a residence feel like a home. Privacy, light, comfort, a sense of place, quality, materials, and great design are reasonable expectations for the multi-family living experience, and we work towards fulfilling these expectations. Our work at Barton Creek Landing Apartments, in Austin Texas, reflects our attention to detail and comfort. h+uo replaced the Leasing Office and swimming pool, added a bath house and outdoor kitchen area, as well as renovated all 250-units, inside and out. At the new Community Building, h+uo created a 2,500 square foot Fitness Center and Resident Lounge. The Lounge includes a media room, a large living room with an adjacent kitchen.

Project: EastVillage • Austin, TX Client: Reger Holdings At h+uo architects, we are committed to bringing to fruition high-quality, diverse districts that bring together places to live, work, eat, and play. Our role in the forthcoming EastVillage mixed-use urban center in northeast Austin is to establish the urban core mix of commercial, residential, and retail spaces. The Town Center district comprises more than 400,000 sf of urban-style residential units and a total of 146,000 sf of retail, restaurant, and office space centered on the Village Green and tied together through a pedestrian-friendly, multi-modal streetscape. Connected to the Town Center, two additional garden-style apartment communities and a micro-unit complex are on our boards.

We believe that all families should live in nicely designed and spacious homes, despite their socio-economic status. M Station provides an affordable apartment community for working families in east Austin. A green-built model of eco-friendly, transit-oriented development and affordable housing, M Station includes a childcare center, a Community Learning center with after-school programs and a computer lab open to the neighborhood. M Station is the first affordable multifamily community located in the MLK transit-oriented district (TOD) and the first LEED Platinum for Homes multifamily project in Austin.
