Health insurance and OHIP In Canada, the government provides basic health care to residents who meet the eligibility requirements. The government‐run health plan in Ontario is called the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). OHIP provides universal, publicly‐funded healthcare for every resident in Ontario. OHIP covers basic healthcare services but doesn’t pay for all medical expenses such as dental care, eye care, podiatrists and some physiotherapy; so, you may consider additional private health insurance.
