edit 6 months ago we started a magazine. Not just any magazine, we started a magazine that we hoped would become a platform and a outlet to expose all things considered a HUSH, in a fashionable way of course.

6 months later we have a magazine. Not just any magazine, a magazine that is growing leaps and bounds! I never imagined that the world would want to know about our Chicago Fashion Goodness! Hush Chicago Magazine has readers in France, Italy, Japan, The United Kingdom, South America, Africa, Poland and a few in the good ole U.S. Of A. I think Hush has definitely HAPPENED! Via our virtual news stand (hushchicagomagazine.magcloud.com), to date Hush Chicago Magazine has had 5,316 views, we have sold 91 copies and netted $109.00 for local charities. Via our on-line view stand (issuu.com/hushchicagomagazine), we have to date 23,819 unique page views, we have 1760 subscribers, 897 total downloads. Yes, 6 months ago we started something that people are hungry for. Everyone wants to know about something cool that they didn’t know about. This issue pays homage to the last 6 months and the future! I’ll introduce you to another Chicago Fashion Icon, Supermodel, Actress and TV Host Roshumba Williams and a future Chicago Fashion Icon, Ms. Erin Rembert. I think that it’s safe to say that this issue is packed with 6 months of Hush Goodness and I hope you enjoy every bit of it! Keep Loving The Hush! The covers are the true face of Hush Chicago Magazine. Our covers are meant to be different and unpredictable. The obvious is just too easy for us here at Hush Chicago Magazine. Decisions are made based on the substance of the image. The model has to communicate something to the reader and the reader has to like the image without having to think about it. As the Editor N Chief of Hush Chicago Magazine, my allegiance is to the reader.

We don’t use celebrities to help sell our publication and we don’t put tons of text on the cover. The magazine should be as simple as a whisper. The theme of the issue, the month, year, issue number, the title of the publication and our tagline, “Chicago Fashion Goodness Exposed” are featured on every cover along with a provocative image. The covers are meant to set the tone for the entire issue, the cover has to always work! To ensure it’s importance, the cover is selected first and the rest of the issue is designed around the cover. 3 covers are created for each issue. Each cover is studied for 4 days and by the 5th day, (a week before release) a cover is selected. The selected cover stays a mystery until it is revealed on the first Friday of every month via our Facebook Fansite. Here’s a look at some alternate covers from March thru July.

INTERVIEW EDITED BY: OGI MERZIER

Networks like HGTV, FOX, WE and The Travel Channel all lined up to have 6 feet of grace and elegance host shows like, "Beautiful Homes, Amazing Homes and Fabulous Bathrooms", "Live Like A Star", "Swimsuit Secrets Revealed" and "The Travel Channel's Beach Week" She is also a judge on “Tease”. A hair-styling reality series which has aired since 2007. She's a size 2 and full of fashion goodness by the tons! Not just any fashion goodness, she's full of Chicago Fashion Goodness! Yes, Roshumba is one of our own! Her career started right here in Chicago. To be more specific, right on Chicago's South Side. Sorry South Siders, she's prefers Cubby Blue!

What made her a star? In my opinion, it was the gumption from within to just go for it. I have many hero's and Roshumba is definitely one of them.

Discovered in Paris by the great Yves Saint Laurent, her runway days are the perfect template for her role as mentor and new celebrity judge for "She's Got The Look", which airs on the TV Land Network. She’s Got The Look is a reality modeling competition that searches for the next great super model OVER the age of 35! The show gives women a chance to achieve the life long dream of being a real fashion model. Season 3 premieres Wednesday, August 25th. (be sure to check your local listings for air times)

Ogi:

Super Model, Actress, Author, TV Host and Reality TV Star! Let's talk about She's Got The Look! The new season premieres in August (2010) on the TV Land Network. Are you excited about the show?

Roshumba: I am so excited about She’s Got The Look! The show is currently in it’s 3rd season and it premieres Aug. 25th.

Roshumba and I talked about two of the things that we love most, fashion (interview continues and Chicago! on page 24)

O: you are such a great fit for what the show is all about! Your career is still going strong! Typically a career for a female fashion model ends before she hits her 30's! The show is about the next great super model 35 years or older. Do you feel that the industry has finally become ageless and non-generational? R: I do feel as if the industry has changed and female models are now able to have careers that can last for many years after the age of 30! Just look at Cindy Crawford or Iman!”

O: Reality show judges can be classified in many ways. From the "let you down easy" judge to the "tell you like it is straight no chaser" judge, how would you classify yourself as a reality tv judge?

R : I ‘m a honest judge with a heart. I am there to actually give the insiders point of view of what it really takes to make it from a industry perspective. They are

O: It goes without saying that you have to know a thing or two about the modeling world to judge a modeling competition. Your accolades include Sports Illustrated's Swimwear Edition, a appearance in Robert Altman's “Ready To Wear”. (one of my favorite films) In that movie, some of your co-stars were future Oscar winners Julia Roberts and Forest Whitaker. This list continues! You were discovered by Yves Saint Laurent! How huge is that? Did you see all of this success in your future when you first aspired to be a model? R: Did I know that the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue would come, being a Hall of Fame Model, writing two books, working for Entertainment Tonight, VH-1, She’s Got The Look, sitting down and interviewing stars like Beyonce, working with Forest Whitaker, doing movies..., did I think that was in my future? No absolutely not ! I just wanted to be a model!

O: Your initial start in modeling was right here in Chicago, correct?

log onto www.amazon.com to purchase!

R: Yes it sure was! I still have tons of family in Chicago and I come home as often as I can. I started modeling in fashion shows around town and I meet a couture designer who showed me the ropes. I will never forget that. Sterling, who hailed from the south side of Chicago is responsible for the Roshumba signature afro. He literally took me under his wing and helped me with posing and walking. He’s the one who told me Paris would be a great place for me to go and jumpstart my career. I will forever be grateful to him for guidance and direction. Those two things can make a huge difference in a model’s career. O: Why did you want to become a model?

a b m u h s o R R: I remember being a teenager, picking up a copy of a Elle Magazine in the local Kruger Grocery store right there in Peoria, IL. I put all the pictures from the magazine on my wall! I ran home and told my mother that I wanted to model. She told me to finish school first and we’ll see. After high school, I moved to Chicago with my grandmother and went for my dream! (continued on page 26)

o g a hc ic ion Icon h s a F O: Let's talk about the runways in Paris. I saw a You Tube video of you that should go down in history! You were walking on the runway, wearing an amazing dress and huge earrings. One earring dropped from your ear, you caught the earring (mid air) and slide it on your hand R: I worked a job, saved my and modeled it as a bracelet! You money and got me a round trip smiled and kept walking! Roshumba, I will have you to know, that I ticket to Paris. I thought that Paris was a very old society and jumped up after seeing that clip and pumped my fist in the air, like I was that it looked like a fairy tale viewing the superbowl of fashion! place. When I got there I LOL! It was a AWESOME MOVE! Do discovered that it looked just like you remember that?

O: I read in your book, (The Complete Idiot's Guide To Becoming A Model) that you ultimately made the decision to go to Paris to further your career.

home. There was a McDonalds and everything! LOL! My mother gave me two weeks to make something happen and that’s all the time I had! I went to so many castings and finally on my 3rd day there, I went on a casting for a fit modeling job for the fashion house of Yves Saint Laurent.

R: I DO! I DO! LOL! I remember that! It’s so weird when people bring that up. The only thing that I can contribute that to...is my training! The art of runway. It’s live theatre. You make it work and you sell it at all cost. I’m from a line of runway girls who can sell saran wrap and make everyone want to wear it.

a b m u h s o R n O: With all of your experience, it’s only fitting to write a book for up and coming models. Why is your book so beneficial to a new model just starting out in the modeling world? R: The Complete Idiots Guide to Being A Model is a must have for anyone who is interested in becoming a model because it gives you the tools that you need for success. O: I asked a few local models here in Chicago, if they could ask you one question, what would it be? Natalie Bryant, who is a freelance ethnic model (African American), wanted to know if she needs the assistance of a agency to take her career to the next level?

R: Yes, Yes, and Yes! You need the agency. The agency is your everything. They protect you, they guide you and they have your best interest in mind at all times. Also, in order to reach clients of a certain caliber, I’m referring to the Cover Girl contracts etc. You need a agency for that. Also, before approaching a agency I would recommend any aspiring model to read The Complete Idiots Guide To Being A Model. This will give them insight on how to approach a agency and how a agency works.

O: I have to agree, your book is amazing and it is a must read in my opinion not only for models, but for anyone who is interested in the fashion industry. Including photographers, stylists and hair/makup artists’. So now...I have to get some "hush" from you! R: Okay, I’m ready! O: I'll settle for 3 Chicago Hushes! What is your favorite "Chicago" food? What is your favorite thing to do here in Chicago? Are you about the black and white or the cubby blue?

O: I knew it! I knew you were a Cub’s Fan!

R: My favorite thing to do when I’m in Chicago...shopping on Michigan Ave and my favorite food would have to be Deep Dish Pizza and the Carmel / Cheese popcorn from Garrett’s Popcorn.

O: You have achieved so much in your career! Tell me, what's next for you? R: I’m ready for my own show. Something educational in the world of modeling! O: Thank you so much for taking the time out to talk to us today! I will for sure tune in Aug. 25th on TV Land to see you on She’s Got The Look! R: My pleasure, I hope to meet soon. O: For sure, you’ll have to come to our Hush Chicago Magazine launch party in March.

R: So sorry South Siders, I’m all about the Cubby Blue!

Hush Chicago Magazine centerfolds are meant to be direct and confrontational. When you look at the centerfold, you should be looking at the model, the photography, the hair, the makeup, the creative direction, the concept of the shoot and how it applies to the theme of the issue, the wardrobe and the fashion styling. Our fashion spreads are meant to create a feeling based on a common theme without the interjection of some typical elements in fashion photography like socialism for commercial purposes. Our centerfolds show fashion in a unique way without depicting images of luxury. True fashion comes from a feeling within and not from a million dollar ad campaign with a super model. You can call us campy or kitsch, but you’ll never call us a imitator. We set our own trends and we relish in taking risks and seeing what happens. So far, so good! You like our pretty pictures! Here’s a look at some of our most talked about centerfolds and a few that were never released until now.
