FOCUS ON HOLIDAY FASHION

Heather Swick, agazine’s Fashion Editor ttire! Hush Chicago M insight on Holiday Party A Give s fashion
FASHIO words bY: Heather Swick
The company holiday party has seen its fair share of reindeer sweaters and Santa Claus suits, but there is no reason to sacrifice style for festivity. When a company soirée rolls around this year, take the opportunity to shimmer and shine. A tasteful bit of glimmer works as your own personal spotlight. Try a sequined tank under a sweater or bejeweled pumps to spice up your little black dress. Romance is in this season, and for the holidays the shops will be decked out with the rich velvets and lace. Don’t be afraid to mix and match, either- a silky dress with a sheer lace overlay is stunning paired with a structured velvet blazer. (HCM Pg40_)
holiday romance
ON 101 Glittering black, white, silver and cream are fresh and flattering, alone or together. Dresses, sweaters, blouses and tights in any of these colors are sure to make several comeback appearances at your holiday events, but carry over well into the later winter months. A slinky dress and belted sweater emphasizes curves without looking too chunky. For the men, a classic dress shirt is a solid staple. A well-fitting blazer or sweater is perfect for a holiday party, even if you forego the tie. However, if the tie has snowmen on it, save it for the family dinner. A company favorite is the ugly sweater party, and in that case, the more pom-pom snowflakes, the better. But if you find yourself at a cocktail party with colleagues this holiday season, light up the night by updating timeless styles with a bit of shine. (HCM Pg41)

For the Party Girl Editorial (beauty look), Hush Chicago Magazine Beauty Editor, Gosia Gorniak created a smokey eye that covered the entire lid of the eye and used shimmer to highlight the brow bone. A soft warm color was used for the cheek with a deep berry for the lips. The soft cheek and the luxe lip creates balance against the dark and edgy eye to compliment the wardrobe which has the same fashionable elements.

runway Mui Mui 2011 Spring
Mui Mui silhouette and color combination is Pure genuine. I cannot get enough of the full prints and the splash of neon color. The sexy boat necks are fun and flirty for Spring and keeps the mystery alive. Bare shoulders and open backs are all the rage for Spring and a the knee length hem is prefect. Isn t the mod motto, pick either leg or chest but never both, always keep them wanting more. Every look is elegant with class and sophistication and a hint of fun. The mixing of patterns and textures with the color palette brings a new life in Spring. I just saying the must have dress for Spring is the black and champagne swan dress.
h s u h Betsey Johnson 2011 Spring
For the twenty something crowd, Betsey Johnson is Queen. Her super fun creative prints and the easy in which her collection translates to the street makes her a must have for Spring. I love the mix of prints, lace and sass. The use for her must have accessories for needs everyone s close attention. I L.O.V.E love the Cat-Eye sunglasses and lace gloves. My Favorite pieces in the collection are the Marilyn Moore print dress. The black and white print coat dress with the short bubble hem is amazing, and a must have for any Spring gala. The use of bright pastel colors and the mixing of prints bring an easy to Spring wear, and will make you the life of any PARTY.
h s u h for him.
Simon Spurr 2011 Spring I have fallen in love with this collection Simon Purr is a man with talent. This is the must have Spring wardrobe for Men. The color palette is amazing the pops of color coming down the runway are sexy and chic. Simon Spurr gave us a full collection from casual pieces and three piece suits. Every man should own a three piece suit I m just saying. I love the way Simon Spurr played with texture and color these boys are ready to PARTY, and I am ready to Party with them!

runway N. HoolYwood 2011 Spring I H.A.T.E. HATE everything in this collection. What was designer DAISUKE OBANA thinking? There is not one piece is this collection worth mentioning. The mixed of prisoner wear from the 30 s and Amish is dull and uninspired. The pieces are unflattering, under designed, and franking Forgettable. I had no idea prisoner chic was in or that the undertakers look was back for Spring. Daisuke Obana needs to go back to the drawing table and gives us a collection with a little PARTY in it.

jenny mccarthy words bY: Ogi Merzier
Comedian, actress, activist and model means Jenny McCarthy. She is one of Chicago's own, graduating from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and growing up in the West Elsdon neighborhood of Chicago. You can add author to the list mentioned above, she has written several books about parenting and her experiences with motherhood. Belly Laughs: The Naked Truth about Pregnancy and Childbirth, Baby Laughs The Naked Truth about the First Year of Mommyhood, and Life Laughs: The Naked Truth about Motherhood, Marriage, and Moving On are 3 of the 7 titles from the books that she has published during her 17 years in Hollywood and in the public eye. Life has not been all fun and games with McCarthy. Her book, "Louder than Words: A Mother's Journey in Healing Autism" which was published in September of 2007 mentions how her husband was unable to deal with their son's autism. This tension ultimately led to their divorce. There was also a 2008 appearance on Larry King Live which was dedicated to the subject of autism where she argued that vaccines can trigger autism. Standing up for who what she believes in comes natural. Chelation Therapy is something that she believes in. McCarthy has hit the talk show circuit to rally for the therapy. As an actress, her Filmography includes roles in 1995's Things to Do In Denver When You're Dead and 1998's BASEketball. McCarthy is a die hard White Sox Fan. This former cheerleader and self proclaimed outcast, also starred in the Scary Movie franchise as well as the Scream Movie franchise. She has made a significant mark on the small screen as well. Hosting MTV's Singled Out lead to her scoring the show Jenny. She has also appeared as a guest star on hit tv shows including Just Shoot Me, My Name is Earl and Two and a Half Men. McCarthy is no stranger to reality tv, she starred in 2005's Party @ the Palms. She was recently featured in the April 2010 PBS Frontline documentary discussing the subject of vaccination. Jenny continues to set trends in her career and with her sense of style, which is why she is our Chicago Fashion Icon!

Closing out Chicago Fashion Week, young graduate designers both strutted their stuff and had fun doing good, by raising funds for victims of the BP oil spill. Behind the scenes of Fashion Relief, Tiffany Miller, CEO of Exposure and Sarah Zakareckis of Hush Chicago Magazine, gave promising new talent a runway of their own. Chic white interiors of the Creative Lounge brought heightened drama to designs that evoked classic American elegance and glamour. Sophisticated fun suffused the dreamy, ladylike femininity found throughout most of the lines. Jesse Doolin evoked both softness and classic structure in designs reflecting the Golden Age of Hollywood. Renne Denomme set a whimsical “American in Paris” tone with her soft, hand-painted fabrics. “Betty Boop is my inspiration,” said Sernice O’Neal of her black and cream cocktail dresses--only her Betty Boop is ready to go for martinis at Wit. While some designers played with past sophistication, Caroline Borucki brought ladylike retro style forward to our eco-conscious present--relying on all-natural hues and sculpting recycled fabrics into textured and womanly shapes. Carrie Smith’s hip-hop designs completely broke ranks. Her full-length cat suit ushered in a revolution for plus-size women, reclaim confidence and overt sexuality. Shemeka Buckner also offered plus-size designs, but returned to evening elegance by quoting Dior and setting a girlish silhouette in flower pinks and steel gray. Amanda Harth offered men swear, made light, fresh and comfortable for summer. Yet, inspired by the 1920s, her crisp, clean lines were unimpeachable--the men looked like they’d stepped out of The Great Gatsby. DJ 5/16 regaled the crowd with a fun, diverse urban mix matched perfectly to each designer’s style. The Party carried on at The People Lounge deep into the night—money raised, good done, and a whole holiday season of classic style ahead. (HCM Pg69)

It's the holiday season again! Tons of parties
h s u h
and glamorous dinners. How can you spice up your makeup? Hush Chicago Magazine’s Beauty Editor Gosia Gorniak shares some of her magical makeup tips. Usually you wouldn't wear a glitter to an important event, but when the holiday season comes around, and your invited to a fancy party..it’s okay to use a little more imagination in regards to your look and add a sparkle to your eyes or lips. Always start the application with a proper base moisturizer. My new favorite moisturizer is from Motives Cosmetics. The spray formula will keep you hydrated throughout the night and it will not make your face shine.
Follow the look with a concealer and foundation. If you are going play up your eyes, keep the rest of your face neutral for balance. Highlight and bring out your cheeks with sculpting duo. Once again, Motives Cosmetics is my 1st choice! The Shape and Sculpt duo is amazing! Use the darker shade on your cheek and high light the bridge of your nose and under your brows. Follow this with a powder all over your face. Finally you can play with your eyes. There is many ways you can use glitter ,but remember a little goes a long way. First prime your eye by using eye primer .This season brown and gold is the way to go. Add some glitz to your smoky eye look. To achieve the smoky eye effect apply matte brown eye shadow to the lid. Then dab a little bit of shimmery gold eye shadow to the center of your lid with a slight blend. Also instead of shimmery eye shadow you can use gold body glitter to add more texture. Body glitter is a little tricky to keep it on, so apply your eye shadow to the lid first, then dab gold glitter on the center. For a daring look, use a small amount of eyelash glue (Duo works best) to the eyelid, wait couple of seconds for the glue to set and then apply glitter on the top. The glue will keep your glitter in one place and give you a more festive look. Remember to wipe off any fallout's. Another way to add some sparkle to your eye is to use glitter eyeliner. Finish the entire look with nude lipstick and one coat lip gloss in this same color.

words bY: Ethan Fern If you are looking for great seafood, this is the place to go. If you are planning a party or intimate gathering come on in! (granted you will drop a pretty penny) If you do not want to sign over your unborn child in an effort to appreciate amazing food, (it is still a recession!) you can still have your party of 2 or more at Shaws Crab House! Every last Monday of the month Shaws plays host to an oyster special, (get ready for it) 25 cents an oyster! For one Monday a month Shaws is the place to be in Chitown! I went with eight of my closest friends. We ate, we drank and we shared a ton of laughs. Not to mention the oysters where crazy good! I know, (I am about to sound like a fatty) I ate about sixty of them! I could not stop eating! It was a PARTY in my mouth. They have an extensive drink menu and a good beer selection. Over all it was an amazing experience and I plan on being there for our next oyster party. So if you got a few friends that are looking for (and just loves) a fun time, good drinks, and great eats this is where you want to be.
