WARNINGS
• T ake EXTREME CARE when connecting the bale feeder to the three point linkage of a tractor or carrier frame of a telehandler. Ensure the tractor/telehandler handbrake is applied before leaving the cab. • All persons must be kept WELL CLEAR (20 meters) of machine in operation. Foreign matter in bale may cause INJURY or DEATH. • Take EXTREME CARE lifting the Hurricane on a front loader/telehandler as this changes the balance point and could tip the vehicle over. (200HP minimum for a tractor). • BEFORE trying to clear feed material from the bedder ensure it is lowered to the ground, handbrake is applied and the tractor/ telehandler is shut off. • BEFORE leaving the cab ensure the machine is lowered to the ground, tractor/telehandler handbrake is applied, the hydraulic oil flow is stopped to the Chainless 2000 and the bedder drum is switched off on the electric controller. This includes when cutting the strings or net from the bale. • BEFORE attempting maintenance or any work, ensure machine lowered to the ground and the tractor/telehandler engine is shut off. • DO NOT allow any person(s) to ride on the machine at ANY time. • ALWAYS lift the platform to an approximate 45o angle when travelling, regardless of whether carrying a bale or not. • Watch CAREFULLY when driving for over-width and tail-swing when travelling through gateways or near objects or people. • When feeder is not being used, ensure children CANNOT play or slide on the platform. • NO alteration or modification is to be done on this machine unless undertaken by Hustler or its authorised dealer. This will void warranty.
5
• All hydraulic parts (hoses, block, valves and motor) heat up during operation. DO NOT TOUCH. Components can reach over 60˚C / 140˚F. “CAUTION HOT” stickers are on the machine. • DO NOT fold the Hurricane into the bedding position with the drive coupling folded away (vertical). The coupling must be engaged to hold the bedder securely. • When the Chainless 2000 is detached from the tractor/telehandler please ensure the electric plugs and controller are NOT exposed to moisture. Use the supplied plug cap on the Bedder Attachment. • Missing or damaged plastic covers can cause the Hurricane to not function properly and may result in an INJURY or DEATH. • KEEP CLEAR of moving feed platform. DO NOT use for transporting anything other than a bale. • KEEP CLEAR of feed rotors. These have sharp points which are needed for teasing the bale. • KEEP WELL CLEAR of Bedder drum when tractor /telehandler engine is running. Drum rotates very fast and could cause severe INJURY or DEATH. • Feed platform MUST be fully lowered before detaching 3 point linkage unit. • Use ONLY straw or hay in Bedding Attachment, silage may cause bedder drum to jam. In the event the drum stalls, discontinue oil flow to the machine IMMEDIATELY. • KEEP CLEAR of pinch points on the machine about the folding mechanism. These are shown with “KEEP CLEAR PINCH POINT” stickers. • ENSURE chain covers are in place when the machine is operating. Chain may cause pinch point. • To enable the Chainless 2000 to spread straw it requires 60 – 70 Litres of oil per minute and 20 - 40 litres to feed. DO NOT EXCEED 80 LPM. This will cause the hydraulic system to overheat.
6
MAINTENANCE Also do this beofre operation
• Grease 5 points regularlyX2 bearings (grease nipple) Drive arm pivot (grease nipple) Both sides of drive coupling on Bedder • After the first 10 hours of operation and during routine servicing ensure that grubscrews and bolts are tight. • See Chainless 2000 Original Instructions for servicing/maintenance of Chainless 2000. • Missing or damaged plastic covers can cause the Hurricane to not function properly and may result in an injury or death.

OPERATIONAL INSTRUCTIONS • Please see Chainless 2000 ORIGINAL INSTRUCTIONS for loading all types of bales onto bale feeder/bedder • Connect Chainless 2000 bale feeder to three point linkage of tractor or carrier frame of loader/telehandler. Connect hoses to tractor/telehandler. Yellow hydra grip to pressure coupling. The hydraulic system only works in one direction. • Fasten controller onto inside of window using supplied mount and connect controller plug to Hurricane plug. (Optional curly extension cable available). • Push in power plug. • Hydraulic lever must be on continuous (detent) for machine to function. • Start with the tractor/telehandler idling. Ensure no one is near the Hurricane, turn the bedder switch on. Use the joystick to activate the other functions. Increase the rpm of the tractor/telehandler until both the rotors turn and the platform lifts at the same time. It is important that no more than the required oil flow is going into the Hurricane, this causes the hydraulic system to heat up. • See below picture of Hurricane controller functions.
Joystick Controls the chainless 2000 feed rotors and feed platform
Switch Controls Bedder Drum on/off Red light on when bedder activated
13
• If straw builds up on FEED GUARD lower platform and reverse feed rotors to clear.
• If too much straw/hay is feed into Bedder the drum may jam. Ensure bedder switch on controller is turned off, lower platform and reverse feed rotors. If drum stalls, oil flow must be discontinued to machine before attempting to clear the jam. • For all bale types start with the FEED GUARD in the ‘squares’ position then move towards the ‘rounds’ position if more feed can be feed into the bedder without stalling it. NOTE: Adjustment may be required depending on type of bale.
14
OPERATIONAL INSTRUCTIONS CONT. • Ensure the platform lift ram is fully detracted before connecting the 3 point linkage frame to the feed cartridge. The ram may creep when not in use. • The speed of the bedder drum can be changed by simple a lever on the hydraulic block. The speed of the feed rotors can also be fine-tuned via a small knob built into the hydraulic block. If any of these functions are altered the oil flow setup as shown in earlier step will have to be repeated. Knob to adjust feed rotor speed left=fast right=slow

15
TROUBLE SHOOTING General Issues ISSUE Bale moving up over the feed rotors
Feed ‘jams’ in the wiper
The rotors won’t turn, or are too fast/slow.
POSSIBLE CAUSE Platform too high
•
Slow down the rotors or lower the platform once the bale has started feeding.
•
Super sticky bale
•
•
Wiper not adjusted correctly
Reverse the rotors (no more than 3 revolutions) and then forward again.
•
NOTE: Early models (preMarch 04) have adjusters. Wiper must be upgraded to perform correctly with Hurricane. Part code: 720758

•
Check the tractor hydraulic pressure.
•
Replace key.
•
Dirt may be in Hydraulic couplings - clean the couplings.
•
Replace controller.
•
Increase oil flow (increase revs).
•
See Operating instructions section to adjust knob.
•
• A string still left in the bale is wrapping around the rotor causing it to jam
•
Hydraulic pressure too low
•
Key is shorn on the hydraulic mo-tor shaft or a sprocket
•
16
SOLUTION
•
Hoses not fully connecting at tractor or in wrong sockets
•
No power to controller

Round Bale Issues
ISSUE Bale rotates but hay will not feed.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
SOLUTION
•
Very tight bale, on backwards
•
Simply disconnect the loading forks, from the cradle, pick up bale from the other direction and re-load.
•
Platform too low
•
•
Rotors going too fast
The platform is not high enough.
•
The higher the platform the more weight of the bale is on the rotors. It may be too late if it has taken a ‘gouge’ out of the bale. Remove the bale and try again. NOTE: Fine chopped bales may fall apart.
•
The speed of the rotors is too fast, chewing off some hay before the bale has time to turn. Slow down the top rotor to 1 revolution every 2-3 seconds.
The rotors turn OK but the bale won’t revolve.
Square Bale Issues
ISSUE
POSSIBLE CAUSE •
Several biscuits coming off at once.
Bales are too long for the platform.
18
•
•
The platform is too high The biscuits congealed too tightly together when baled
Bale longer than 6’6”
SOLUTION •
Lower platform.
•
•Reverse the top rotors 1 turn then forward again (repeat this continually).
•
• If the bales are too tightly compressed you may not be able to tease them out separately.
•
Purchase the optional extension kit for the platform. Order Code: 7207083
