INTRODUCTION Thank you for purchasing a HUSTLER X2000/X2400/X2500 BALEFEEDER. Please read through this manual as it contains important information which you need to know. Please take special note of the warnings on page 4-5, routine servicing on page 6 and trouble-shooting on page 11. Correctly maintained and operated this machine will give many years of service. If you have any questions please contact the dealer who supplied you this machine. They have trained technicians who will be able to help you.
IMPORTANT • Please ensure this booklet is read and understood by every operator of this machine. • Also ensure that this booklet goes with the machine if it is resold and is read and understood by owner.

Tractor size: • X2000/X2400 -Large enough to safely handle the Chainless X2000/X2400 and 1 bale up to 1000kgs [2205 lb]. Up to 1.8m [6ft] round bales and 2.4m [8ft] square bales with optional extension bar. • X2500 -Large enough to safely handle the Chainless X2500 and 1 bale up to 1250kgs [2756 lb]. Up to 1.8m [6ft] round bales and 2.4m [8ft] square bales with optional extension bar.
Machine Weight • X2000 = 640kg [1411 lb] • X2400 = 680kg [1500 lb] • X2500 = 800kg [1764 lb]

WARRANTY
(X2000/X2400/X2500 Bale feeder) The goods specified in the Instruction Manual as designed and supplied by the Manufacturer are warranted against faulty workmanship and defective materials for a period of 24 months from the date of purchase. Such warranty is subject to the following conditions: 1. This warranty covers the repair or replacement of parts or machinery sold by the manufacturer and damaged as a result of the faulty workmanship or materials in such parts or machinery. It does not extend to any other loss or damage including consequential loss or damage or loss to other property or persons. 2. Without limiting the senerality of paragraph 1 above, this warranty does not cover the following: a. Travel expenses. b. Damage caused by accident, misuse or abuse. c. Damage to any goods which have been altered or modified by someone other than the manufacturer or its authorised agent d. Damage or loss to the goods due to their unsuitability for any particular use or for using with any particular tractor except where such use or tractor had been specifically approved by the manufacturer. e. Damage or loss where the fitting and installation of the goods were not carried out By the manufacturer or its authorised dealer. f. Paint damage or wear. g. Wear and tear where Hustler deem the product to be in a high wear environment 3. Procedure for recovery under warranty. No loss or damage will be covered by this warranty unless the following procedure is followed by the purchaser a. The loss or damage should be reported immediately to the dealer (who will contact the manufacturer who will advise whether it is covered by the warranty and undertake the necessary action). “This warranty shall be interpreted according to the laws of New Zealand and the parties agree to submit to the jurisdiction of the Courts of New Zealand.”

WARNINGS • Take EXTREME CARE when connecting the bale feeder to the three-point linkage of a tractor or carrier frame of a telehandler. Ensure the tractor/telehandler handbrake is applied before leaving the cab. • If the bale feeder is stationary mounted or on a pickup/truck/ute deck, ensure it is SECURELY FASTENED. • ENSURE the latch hooks are latched when transporting the bale feeder, whether it’s connected to a tractor/telehandler or on a trailer. • ALL persons must be kept well clear of machine in operation. Only the operator should be within 3 metres of the machine during operation. • Shut off the tractor or oil supply BEFORE trying to clear feed material or cut strings / net anywhere from around the machine. • Watch CAREFULLY when driving for over-width and tail-swing when travelling through gateways or near objects or people. • When feeder is not being used, ensure children CANNOT play or slide on the platform. • BEFORE attempting maintenance or any work, ensure the tractor engine is shut off and no one is near the hydraulic controls. • DO NOT allow any person(s) to ride on the machine at ANY time. • ALWAYS lift the platform to recommended initial rounds/square feeding position when travelling regardless of with or without a bale. • Take EXTREME CARE when lifting the feeder on a front loader, telehandler or skid steer loader as this changes the balance point and could tip the vehicle over. • NO alteration or modification is to be done on this machine unless undertaken or authorised by Hustler. Otherwise this will void warranty.

WARNINGS CONT. • Vehicle MUST be operated at low speed over even ground when the bale feeder is attached. It must be kept as low as practical to the ground when traveling on a loader or telehandler. • Take EXTREME CAUTION when driving the vehicle on non-le vel ground, with the balefeeder attached. Do not exceed 15 degrees’ side slope when attached to the 3-point linkage of a tractor. • KEEP CLEAR of moving feed platform and pivot mechanism. DO NOT use for transporting anything other than a bale. • KEEP CLEAR of feed rotors. These have sharp points which are needed for teasing the bale. • ENSURE chain covers are in place when the machine is operating. Chain may cause pinch point. • KEEP CLEAR of bale tynes when the linkage frame is not connected to the mainframe. • REGULARLY check the machine for signs of wear, stress or damage. ENSURE any parts are repaired/replaced if needed. • ENSURE the platform lift arm is completely lowered before engaging the linkage frame with the feed unit.

MAINTENANCE (also do this before initial operation) • Grease all points regularly. • These are: o 4x main drum bearings (remove yellow/green covers, do not overgrease). o 2x platform pivot bearings (do not over-grease). o Grease point on linkage frame pivot. o Ram spear pivot. o Moving parts on the latching mechanism. (these need to slide freely for the latch to work). o All points of contact between the linkage frame and main frame. i.e. hooks, latches, platform lift pin. • Keep the 2 drive chains oiled. Use non-tacky black or brown chain lube monthly. • After the first 10 hours of operation check all bolts and grub screws are tight. • During routine servicing check that the grub screws and bolts are tight. • In a salty atmosphere keep grease on parts that are likely to rust. i.e. pins and cylinder shaft. • Regularly check the machine for signs of wear, stress or damage. Ensure any parts are repaired/replaced if needed. • If the short chain is replaced or removed, • Ensure feed drums are timed correctly as shown.
Note: Top drum tooth should be flush with the centre of the bottom drum star radius. This is very critical, one tooth out on the sprocket will cause the feed to jam in the wiper panel.

OPERATIONAL INSTRUCTIONS Connecting bale feeder onto tractor/telehandler etc. • Connect hitch (3-point linkage/loader/telehandler) to Chainless X2000 series bale feeder. • With the tractor and Chainless X2000 sitting on level ground adjust the top link so the pin is halfway along the slot. • Connect the hoses so that: • Lever 1 – lifts platform. (2 small hoses.) • Lever 2 - rotors feed out. (2 large hoses.) • The hydraulic flow rate should turn the top rotor 1 turn/2-3 seconds. Many high flow rate tractors have an adjustable control. Use this to reduce the flow to the required rate. If there is no flow adjustment, simply operate the tractor at low rpm. • Some bales are just plain difficult for any feeder, however the Chainless X2000 series will generally feed these out. They will take a little patience and may need the rotors to be reversed 1-2 turns then forward again. • The hydraulic flow should actuate the platform at a smooth, controlled rate, not too jerky or sudden. • Familiarise yourself with the hydraulic controls on the machine. Connecting/Disconnecting the Linkage frame from the feed unit.
X2000/X2500 With the patented snaplox auto connect/disconnect hands-free loading system, you don’t have the frustration with tugging on a rope to disconnect.
Disconnecting • To disconnect, simply stop the tractor/telehandler from moving. • Lower the feed platform fully down. • Lower the complete machine onto the ground (feet farthest from the tractor/telehandler should touch the ground first). • Watch the latch hooks lift, then drive away leaving the mainframe on the ground (if the hooks don’t release see the troubleshooting section for help). 9
Connecting • When reconnecting the linkage frame to the feed unit ensure the platform lift arm is completely lowered. • Then simply align the bale tynes on the linkage frame with the guide cones on the feed unit. • Once the tynes have started to engage, adjust the linkage height so the linkage frame remains level. • Insert the tynes until you hear the hooks click and see them relatch. • Lift the bale feeder off the ground and raise the platform to your desired feeding position. • Go feeding.
X2000 - Rope Version
Same as above but using the rope to lift the hooks. The feed platform must be completely lowered before lifting hooks.
Loading Bales Wrapped Bales • For loading wrapped bales - first remove the plastic wrap only. DO NOT remove string or net-wrap at this stage. • With the platform fully down, using Hustler SOFTHANDS or bale spikes lift the bale so it just above the platform. • Remove the net from the bale. • With the net removed finish lowering the bale onto the platform.
Hay/Straw Bales • Using Hustler SOFTHANDS or bale spikes lift the bale over the platform. • For hay/straw bales with strings, lower the bale right down onto the platform then remove the strings. • Knots may be hard to pull out - using a small stick as a grip makes it easier. If they are net wrapped, the bale will need unwrapping before lowering right onto the platform. • Strings can be cut next to the drums then fold over the bale and tied onto the underside of the platform. The strings can be removed after the bale is feed out 10

Transporting • Lift the platform up to the recommended initial feeding position to cradle the bale securely against the rotors while travelling. • Ensure the platform is lifted to the Round/Squares bale position even when travelling without a bale. (Machine may un-hook when platform is down.)
Feeding Out Round Bales • Keep the platform at the recommended ‘ROUNDS’ position - then operate the rotors (using lever 2) to start feeding out. • As the bale is fed out and the diameter reduces, raise the platform (using lever 1) to keep the bale against the rotors. • Getting the bale turning is the secret to successful feeding out. The higher the platform, the better the chance of turning - even the most odd shaped bales.
Square Bales • Lift platform to recommended position shown by decal on the machine. • When ready to feed, operate the rotors (using lever 2) to start feeding either one ‘biscuit’ at a time or intermittently. • Most silage bales will tease out nicely. However some hay or straw bales won’t, especially if they were wet when baled. If several ‘biscuits’ are coming off together, lower the platform slightly and/ or reverse the rotors 1 turn then forward 4 turns, reverse, forward, continue. • Near the end of the bale, lift the platform to help the last bit feed.

ADJUSTMENTS EASY CLEAN WIPER • Recommended to be cleaned before use, daily or any time of buildup. • Turn off tractor/telehandler. • Release both silver end latches of the wiper, let wiper panel slide open. • Remove excess material. • Close wiper by pulling bottom of wiper with one hand and pushing the top of wiper panel with other hand. (Keep fingers clear of pinch points). • Press both latches down into lock position.
ADJUSTING WIPER PANEL • Wiper Panel must be set up as close to the top drum as possible. (this reduces any build-up in the wiper with sticky bales) • Remove front and rear plastic covers. • Loosen M16 bolts at both ends. • Slide wiper towards the top drum, to reduce the gap to a minimum. (keep fingers away from pinch points) • Retighten M16 bolts at both ends, (recommended torque 140Nm). • Latch must be down (locked) when resetting wiper position.

ADJUSTMENT CONT. ADJUSTING PLATFORM - X2500 Only • The platform can be adjusted to suit the type of bale you’re feeding. • Factory setting as shown below. This is great for round bales and most square bales. (Please note these pictures are shown without the plastic platform for better understanding for the reader, it is not necessary to remove the plastic when altering the platform position).
Remove this bolt
• However, if you have trouble feeding tight square bales this simple adjustment can help. • First remove the steel platform flap bolted to the bottom edge of the plastic cover. Replace the bolts and washers once flap is removed. • Extend the platform ram about 100mm. • Remove the two fixed bolts which are not in the slots and loosen the other six bolts. • Using a bar for leverage, (or a hoist) slide the base of the platform up. • Refit the bolts and tighten.

TROUBLE SHOOTING General Issues ISSUE Bales coming over the drums

Bale starts falling apart after removing the plastic or the net wrap, even when I try removing it carefully.

Slow down the rotors or lower the platform once the bale has started feeding.

Reverse the rotors (no more than 3 revolutions) and then forward again.

Feed rotors not timed correctly

Lift the platform, so the bale only touch-es the top drum, not the bottom drum.

•
Clean the latch area, grease all the moving/sliding parts.
•
Check the latch for wear or damage. Contact your Hustler dealer to purchase replacement parts.

Remove the covering Just before lowering the bale onto the platform.
•
For very difficult bales, lower bale onto platform and remove the covering around the bale where you can, and collect the rest afterwards.
•
Excessive buildup of mud or feed material on the mechanical latch

Wear or damage to the latch

Round Bale Issues
ISSUE Bale rotates but hay will not feed.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
SOLUTION

Bale on backwards
•
Simply unload the bale and pick it up from the other direction and re-load.
•
Platform too low

Rotors going too fast
The platform is not high enough.
•
The higher the platform the more weight of the bale is on the rotors. It may be too late if it has taken a ‘gouge’ out of the bale. Remove the bale and try again. NOTE: Fine chopped bales may fall apart.
•
The speed of the rotors is too fast, chewing off some hay before the bale has time to turn. Slow down the top rotor to 1 revolution every 2-3 seconds.
•
If this occurs the platform should be cleaned and silicon sprayed on, as the residue can stop the bale rotating properly.
The rotors turn OK but the bale won’t revolve.
