Being A Christian Teen In An Unsaved World

In order to see our Christian brothers as God sees them, we must put on our God-glasses

God Glasses By: Deacon Stan Shipe Recently, I was talking with a friend and he said that he must sometimes put on his “God-glasses”. He said that this allows him to see people as God sees them, and it causes him not to focus or judge people based on their actions or words. I thought to myself, “God-glasses are like a filter to see beyond what someone is actually doing or saying. It is a way of correcting my vision”. As I thought more about this, I realized that God wants us to see the good in our fellow man; not just the bad. He wants us to see what we can become—to see the blessings, promises and grace that He has for all of us who believe.

go to sleep. We also make judgments while listening or watching men live their daily lives. Sometimes, after witnessing their speech or actions, we are surprised to hear them identity themselves as being Christians.

Men! It is hard, (in some cases extremely hard), to see any good in our brothers. Some of us even find it difficult to see the good in ourselves. We make judgments from the time we wake up to the time we

God’s grace makes corrections in love. Are you wearing your God-glasses?

In order to see our Christian brothers as God sees them, we must put on our Godglasses. Only then can we show them forgiveness and compassion. Only then will we share biblical truths and advice when we see wrongdoings. We will also accept correction from other godly men when it is directed at us.

All teens go through temptations. All teens have to go through making hard decisions. Coming from a teen, I have to say the teenage life is pretty rough. However, Christian teens have it even worse. For unsaved teens, cursing, listening to secular music and having sex is normal. For Christian teens, those are our temptations. Peole think that because God is on our side, Christian teens don’t go through anything. Lie! No matter how old you are, life isn’t going to be easy; and our generation has be hit hard. We get labeled “boring” or “lame” because we don’t do what everyone else does. Just because we don’t do those things, doesn’t mean we don’t want to. Yes, we are going to mess up or backslide every now and then, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t trying to do better. I know that deep down, every teen wants to have that feel-

ing of acceptance and confidence in themselves. Rejection is one of the hardest things any teen may have to go through. Believe it or not, being a teenager in this generation today is harder than being a teenager in our parent’s generation. The world has changed and so has the things that are “cool” or “uncool”. Being a Christian today is “uncool”. I don’t think age should be what determines if life is hard or not. Whether you are 15 and caught in a rumor, or 35 and bill are due, life is going to be difficult regardless. However, us teens have to add Christianity on top of that. Juggling our school life, personal life and Christian life is not an easy thing to do. It’s not as easy for Christian teens to resist their flesh as it is for Christian adults with experience. But, with help and guidance we can overcome our flesh and Transform A Generation.

The T.A.G teen ministry meets every Wednesday evening at 7:05 PM. We have a lot of fun exploring the Word of God and hanging out with our friends. You are invited to come and help Transform A Generation!

Science Olympian Congratulations to Grace Brooks. Grace participated in the Science Olympics representing her school, Dailey Middle School. Grace took 1st place and is on her way to San Francisco, California to compete in the championship. Grace may just be one of our great scientific minds of the future!!! Great job Grace!

African American Heritage Award Nominated by her teachers, Raegan Smith was recognized for the African American Heritage Award. The awesome thing about this award is that it is a sequel. That’s right, Regan is the only student at Burnett Middle School who has been granted this award two years in a row. As an 8th grader, in December of 2012 she also had the highest 8th grade GPA. Loved by her teachers and admired by her peers, Raegan is deserving of such an achievement. Congratulation Raegan!!!!

"Who do you say I am?" Jesus repeatedly asked. As the answer unfolds, the events leading up to Christ"s death and resurrection are played out from the vantage points of two pivotal figures: Barabbas (who feared Jesus would not challenge Rome) and Pilate (who feared He would). The paths of these two impassioned men unexpectedly cross on a balcony before an angry mob as Barabbas is confronted with the reality we all must face: "Jesus Christ will die in my place."
