A Great Legacy of Humanity, Beautiful Global Community There is no place more beautiful and habitable than earth for creations to live and thrive. What is the point of ruining such global community that is like a beautiful paradise and wishing for heaven? Wouldn't it be better to create our global community into a good world that is like heaven? It is time to educate the ideas of a new era of peace. We must transcend nation, race, religion, and all ideas so that everyone can live together in a world of peace by becoming one. In order to create a truly peaceful world, the youth and all individuals must become peace citizens with the right ideas of peace. Peace education should not be limited to discussions about the past, but be an education that helps people become peace messengers by understanding the answers to peace through the peace movements that are being conducted now. -HWPL Chairman Lee Man-hee-

Background of Peace Education -Absence of Peace-
Currently, the global community is suffering from constant war and conflict. Despite the various efforts of the international community, the historical causes of deep-rooted conflict still provoke and threaten world peace to this day. In addition, many people who face various problems such as extreme terrorism, racism, poverty, disease, climate change, and more are not guaranteed life and safety which are basic rights. In this reality, peace has become a universal value that humanity must pursue first and a major task that must be achieved. Now, we must create a world of peace without war and leave it as a legacy to the future generations.

The Way for Humanity: Promoting Peace Education and Culture of Peace The efforts of the government and certain people alone cannot guarantee peace. All civil society needs to participate in order to end the war and establish a culture of peace. Also, a public awareness of the need and value of peace must be created. If all civil society recognizes the importance of peace and apply the spirit of peace to their respective lives, peace will be an achievable goal, not ambiguous or impossible one. Therefore, we must focus on activating peace education which raises awareness of peace and educating people to become peace citizens. In particular, peace education which trains students and youth who will lead the future as citizens of peace is a source of sustainable peace.

Relationship between the DPCW and Peace Education The Declaration of Peace and Cession of War (hereinafter referred to as the DPCW) was drafted by the HWPL International Law Peace Committee comprised of legal experts around the world. In 2016 the Preamble and 10 Articles and 38 Clauses of the DPCW were proclaimed to the world. This Declaration aims to maintain a sustainable environment for peace by ending all wars.
<DPCW Article 10 Spreading a Culture of Peace> (1) States should recognize and engage with groups and organizations that seek to further the cause of peace as a global movement. States should facilitate such groups in their awareness-raising activities, including providing tuition in human rights and peace studies, as provided for, inter alia, in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 1999 UN Declaration on a Culture of Peace. (4-c) Education is imparted to promote respect and mutual understanding among different religious belief and ethnic groups. <The Purpose of Spreading a Culture of Peace through Peace Education>

Interview with Peace Educator
Republic of South Africa Senior Education Specialist of Education Department of Ekurhuleni District in Gauteng Vanessa Boikhutso What motivated me with this program of Peace Education is when I saw their profile. I saw that their program is relevant and is addressing exactly what we want. Peace value is under-pinning around peace values within the schools where we know that needs to be enhanced. So, I saw it, and then I felt this is the correct thing, and consulted with management, and then we said that let us run with it. And yes, because it is relevant in addressing the peace in the classroom. This educator is supposed to be equipped with skills, to be able to teach learners, to instill skills of peace and tolerance in a meaningful way during learning and teaching, doing it in such a way that learners find it becomes part and parcel of their lives. So, if we equip our educators to do peace education, then we know that we will be able to help so that they instill this in the learners on a daily basis.
