WITH GRACE & EASE- 2 GUIDED IMAGERY AND PREGNANCY - 7 HYPNOSIS AND CHILDBIRTH FOR YOU - 10

With Grace & Ease HOW HYPNOSIS HELPED ME WITH THE PAINS OF BIRTH

This story begins about six years ago, when I was pregnant with my second child, The pregnancy and birth of the first one, thirteen years prior, had been such a harrowing experience that I had decided I wouldn't have another child again - BUT IF I DID.... It would be as natural as possible, with hypnosis and a midwife.

During the last trimester of the pregnancy I found an article online that recommended I should see a hypnotherapist before attempting to do a natural birth. It stated that the breathing cycles women can fall into during labor sometimes trigger traumatic memories from their own birth and delivery. I knew from repeated stories my mother would share, that she had been induced after a day and night of labor, so I knew the chance for trauma could be there. I looked online for a hypnotherapist I felt I could speak with freely and get the clarification I needed. The Hypnotherapist I selected had a home office near my home, and was trained in some specialties that appealed to me, so I booked my first session.

"Of course you can do it!"

When I arrived at her home office, I was immediately taken by the view she had from her hilltop home. The wind stirring up bugambilia petals between the gate and I. She came from behind that gate and I had a good sense about her. I knew I'd be able to speak with her. During the session we spoke about a few things I had heard about Hypnosis, what I thought it was, and she explained to me how and why it would work. She did a progressive relaxation, and during the time I was in hypnosis, she said I would be able to give birth with "grace and ease", and she went on with more positive suggestions. It felt great relaxing in her chair and hearing such wonderful affirmations. When it was over, just as I was leaving, I asked about Hypnosis for Childbirth and she repeated to me, "you'll do just fine, you will give birth with grace and ease.", only this time, she placed her arm on my shoulder when she said it. I was happy.

Years passed, and once again I found myself pregnant. In the time since the birth of my son in 2012 and this pregnancy, I had become a Certified Hypnotherapist myself. While at school, I came to find out that I hadn’t actually been hypnotized for the birth of my son. During my clinical residency I learned about suggestibility and the ways people accept information that is given to them. When women are pregnant, they are naturally in a more "suggestible" state, meaning that they are more likely to believe what they are told, especially from someone in a place of authority. If the Hypnotherapist told me with such assurance that I was going to do fine, and deliver with "grace and ease", then that's all I needed to know.

I STUDIED HYPNOSIS, LEARNED HYPNOTHERAPY, MASTERED IMAGERY AND BECAME CERTIFIED IN BIRTH & HYPNOSIS.

This isn't how it works for everyone, but everyone is suggestible. It just so happened that she "anchored" in the confidence when she put her hand on my shoulder and she knew exactly how to speak to me so I could deliver the baby without a doubt.Â

Pain, however, was managed by the chanting.

While studying the Birth and Hypnosis Certification course developed for members of the American Hypnosis Association, I was also putting together a course for Imagery and Pregnancy. In the last year I spent some time listening to the fears and doubts that so many pregnant women have. So many mothers of all ages that felt doubt, lack of confidence, disconnect from their child within, pressure from in-laws or their partner, challenges with Gestational Diabetes, identifying as a mother, needles and repetitive lab work, waiting for test results, overcoming apprehensions of hospitals or Drs., smoking Cessation, worry about a VBAC, nursing, exercise, self-care and so much more.

I developed the Imagery for Pregnancy just for these Mothers-to-be.

Therapeutic Guided Imagery is a method of creating a visual setting within the mind to allow for the subconscious mind to communicate with the conscious mind. It happens in a relaxed setting where you are completely relaxed and aware of what’s going on - both around you and within you. During an Imagery Session you can speak to answer questions, share what you’ve come to know or remain silent if preferred.

Guided Imagery & Pregnancy “You can’t have Imagery without Hypnosis and you can’t have Hypnosis without Imagery.” - Dr. J.Kappas

Every pregnancy is different and not every family has the same dynamic, which is why the sessions are held in private and not in a group setting. The Imagery & Pregnancy Sessions are designed to help Mothers-to-be in the specific challenges they may be experiencing. With these mental journeys, the client can gain confidence, control, connection, and whatever else it is she needs to experience a joyful time in her womanhood. Whether mental, physical or emotional, Guided Imagery can help. It is a wonderful method of recovering from any doubts and establishing a calm inner peace (that will be essential and helpful as the baby grows). Sessions are available in person at Healthy Weighs Wellness Center in Brookfield, CT as well as on Skype.

Hypnosis & Birth Studies have shown that Hypnosis is an effective way to give birth without the use of pain medication. Giving birth without medication allows for the mother to bond with the newborn with clarity and no chemical "disconnect". Hypnosis is used to help women gain a sense of control during their birth experience. It can help the woman, calmly go through the contractions, control her responses to labor, and give birth joyfully. While relaxed, the body naturally releases endorphins, muscles are relaxed and birth can occur with greater ease. Recovery time and healing is faster.
