About us
Following a rather challenging 18 months and having to cancel last year’s festival we are delighted to be back on Hythe Green for the We Love Hythe Life Food Festival 2021! We are following all of the current guidelines and have put in some extra measures to keep you safe and well during your visit. The team are so excited to be back and able to put on a fantastic three day celebration of food drink and music. As always we have the absolute best that Kent’s street Foodies have to offer, with a delectable array of international, artisan cuisine, simply perfect for the hungry visitor. We’ve also got a stellar line-up of musical talent hitting our music stage to entertain you all whilst you lap up the lashings of Food and sip on those cheeky cocktails! Hopefully with a massive measure of sunshine thrown into the mix! This food festival is still run entirely by volunteers, both the event days team and the management team alike. Being a not for profit, Community Interest Company, we work closely with local charities and organisations and make regular contributions to them. We will continue to do as much as we can for our lovely, picture postcard town and therefore just ask that if you’re enjoying this Free event, give us a donation to help us Fund this and we’ll love you all forever! You’ll see some of our team wandering the ground and you’ll also find collection points in the bar and at the information point. Thanks For coming, enjoy the event, eat drink and mingle! Come hungry, leave happy.

My name is Lizzy Dee, I’m from Sandgate. Every Saturday I host The Sophisticated Sista Radio Show from 7 - 9 pm on 105.9 Academy FM in Folkestone playing Funk, Soul, Northern Soul, Gospel, Blues, Disco and Motown with an emphasis on the female vocalist. I have guest interviews with new recording artists and try to promote new releases coming out. I’m delighted to be opening the Hythe Food Festival this year kicking off at 1pm on Saturday 28th August with some soulful rare grooves. If you have any requests or if you would like to follow me, you can find me at:
“A very original, great singer/songwriter!” Kent Folk on BBC Radio Kent. Folkestone-based singer/songwriter Nick Lawrence has been performing throughout Kent and beyond for over 15 years. Get back to the musicals and sing-along with the singers from FHODS and the Tower Theatre, who will be performing songs from some of the greatest Broadway and West End musicals. Joining us on a whistle-stop tour of the best shows we all know and love will be pianist Andy, from Andy Hartley Music. We’re delighted that we’re now open again, so please check out our website (towertheatrefolkestone.co.uk) for the latest news about our upcoming shows, including The Audience, Blackadder Goes Forth and our great Christmas panto, Dick Whittington.
Cherry Red are a toe-tapping rhythm, blues and soul inspired band from the collective Thames, Medway and Polish deltas. Raised on a diet of 100% proof vintage sounds, we feed our audiences well known numbers and mix in some tasty gems that you may have forgotten. Clara (vocals), Gary, Dave, Kevin and Wally, our crazy Russian drummer, request you raise a bourbon, a scotch AND a beer… and get those feet a-tapping!
An up and coming four piece Indie Rock band from Kent. Since forming in 2018 the band have played near and far, turning heads as they go with their charismatic, energetic and captivating performances. Coming from musical backgrounds, the band’s influences range from Jimi Hendrix to Blur and everything in between, creating a confident, upbeat sound that adds style and attractiveness. Pre Covid the band were regularly performing, however with the past year they have not been able to do so which has impacted them, but in no way has it defeated them. 2020 saw the release of their Debut single ‘Brown Gold’ which made its way onto all major streaming platforms in April of that year. The single soon found itself being played on radio stations including BBC radio Kent, as well as making it onto the airwaves in America. As lockdown comes to an end, the band are back rehearsing and writing new music which they aim to record and release soon.

Martin Matcham
The Ashborys
The Beer Lizards
My name is Martin Matcham. I’m a singer songwriter and I’ve been singing and playing guitar since I was 9 years old. Pubs, clubs, holiday parks. Then in 2009 I went on Britain’s Got Talent and made it through to the semi finals. I make my own guitars some may remember the union jack flashing guitar I used in BGT or the American stars and stripes one. I also play in a band called M3, we’re a cover band, covering all types of music from party tunes, rock, etc. My solo career has a wider range of music from Elton John, Queen, Kaiser Chiefs to The Fray and Status Quo and lots more. I hope you enjoy my performance.
Terrylee (vocals) Roger (acoustic bass) and Tony (acoustic guitar) formed the Ashborys to play music initially inspired by the songs that came out of Laurel Canyon in the 60s and 70s. Terrylee is a genuine California Gal, who spent her teenage years listening to James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Carol King and The Eagles. Roger and Tony are experienced musicians and ably support Terrylee in delivering a repertoire that includes such classics as California Girls, Take It Easy and Woodstock. Songs from the likes of Kasey Musgraves, The Jayhawks, Police, Stealers Wheel, Fleetwood Mac and Alison Krauss add a contemporary and international edge to produce the Kent East Coast’s own unique take on the West Coast sound.
The Beer Lizards are four men who are old enough to know better - but don’t! We play vintage rock with a little Americana and soul added to the mix - think Doobie Brothers, think Eagles, think Georgia Satellites… think about a few beers with friends while a down home band is rockin’ in the background. It’s about good times and good music.

The Good’s Gone
Bradley Bogus Holbrook
Here Come the Girls
The Good’s Gone are a groovy, upbeat and melodic originals guitar band from Deal, Kent. Their sound has been compared to bands such as The Beatles, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, The Doors Jefferson Airplane, Pink Floyd, The Verve, Radiohead, Travis and Brian Jonestown Massacre. The band consists of singer-songwriter/ guitarist Ryan Sams, bass player Jake Blake and drummer Will Relf. They formed in early 2019 and within a few months they played their first gig at the Ramsgate Music Hall supporting Rudy Warman & The Heavy Weather. Their live show is unique, memorable and engaging. Not to be missed!
Bradley Bogus Holbrook is a singer/ songwriter playing his guitar and harmonica with a folk/blues type feel, influenced by none other than Bob Dylan, Leadbelly, Donovan, Robert Johnson just to name a few. “Expect to hear some original songs about Earth and life itself”. I have been playing local gigs and festivals in Kent over the past few years and am always up for new venues and places to play. A Nomad Musician.
Hythe-based vocal duo Here Come the Girls (aka Donna and Jo) have been filling party dancefloors since 2013 with their extensive repertoire of feel-good pop, rock, disco, funk, rock & roll, and soul classics. The girls bring a wealth of experience and talent to their live performances, and it’s obvious from the fun they have on stage that they thoroughly love what they do. Expect high-energy entertainment featuring some of the biggest songs from the past seven decades performed with incredible vocals and some very questionable dance moves.

The Starlings
One of the newest additions to Folkestone’s music scene is Jazz and R’n’B band Fuji Kahlo. Made up of acoustic guitar, bass and drums the trio take inspiration from the likes of Amy Winehouse, Hiatus Kaiyote and Moloko. Expect a range of fresh upbeat covers and soulful laidback originals written by the two lead vocalists. Their rich harmonies and punchy rhythms are always at the core of their sound and after a year of lockdown they are eager to perform again and bring their high energy to any stage! Follow them on Instagram and Facebook @fuji.kahlo for regular updates.
Kevin Dore (Bassist) has performed all over the UK/Europe and the USA for more than 25 years with his own fast, unique style. Callum Sutton (Vocal/Harm/Guitar) has also played all over the UK with his amazing voice. They play lots of uptempo Blues n Rock music from The Rolling Stones to Van Morrison/ Bob Marley & many, many more, so come along and have a great time at The Hythe Festival, you won’t be disappointed! Friends, rockers, countrymen, lend me your ears! Brace yourselves for the comeback of all comebacks. The Starlings are returning, from their decade long hiatus, to close the festival with a bang on Monday evening (5pm.) Put down your Remote Control, don your Golden Fleece and get ready for a Mystic Journey. Chris, Stu, Kev, Rich and Mr Whitnall have dusted off the guitars, delved into their impressive back catalogue, and selected a few Beatles favourites. It’s been a long time since they rock and rolled, they’re ready - are you?
