Sports Management
Sports Facilities Management Level 5
This module will develop in students knowledge and critical understanding of the key issues that they may encounter when understanding sports and leisure facility planning and management. It will also encourage students to apply underlying concepts, and principles in generating solutions for key industry issues encountered by sports and leisure professionals.

Module Focus
Knowledge Management
Critically evaluate social, economic and political issues that influence the affect the supply of, and demands for, sport and leisure facility provision. Write and critically evaluate facility development and programming plans, that recognise and meet the leisure needs of specific communities
Module Content Unit 1 Strategic Planning Facility frameworks – (participation to elite provision, sport, adventure, wellbeing) Facility provision and management (history, investment, infrastructure) Economic impacts of sport and leisure venues (major events, tourism, commercial) Facility development & planning (Facilities planning model; funding) Facilities management structures (public, private, trust, community partnerships) The future direction for sport and leisure facilities (new markets, advances in technology, global influences)
Unit 2 Operational Planning Facilities design (dual use; stand alone, sport, fitness, adventure, health & wellbeing) Programming facilities (customers, demand, resources, staffing and resources) Ticketing and sales management Facilities relationships with the media (local, national and international)
