Updates from Lyda (President) HelloIAASmembersaroundtheworld!

Time  flies  so  fast  but  it  seems  like  yesterday  that  we  were  elected  in Macedonia.:) Duringthesefirstmonthswestartedworkingtogetherasateam.Wefinished someprojectsandstartednewones.

Aren’tyoucurioustolearnwhatwe’vedonesofar?

So,letmegiveyouaheadsupofthemonths/activitiesthatpassed: AttheendofAugust,IwenttoBrusselsnotonlyforouroverlapweekend betweenformerandnewECbutalsotostay here and work for IAAS! Unfortunately,onlyTeresaandIwereabletoattendfromthenewECand Lara andPaulfromthe last together with Herve and Tine (trainers),but despitethis,wehadagreat weekendwherethestrategythat wasformed afterGA,atSkopje,becameconcreteandwasputintoaction.

At  the  middle  of  September,  I  attended  the  1st  Fundraising  European School inZaragozaorganizedfromBESTandAEGEE.Duringafulland intense  week,  I  experienced  trainings  on  different  fundraising issues and learned  on  how  to  handle  sponsors,  write  applications  for  grants,  write sponsorshipoffersandpreparebooklets.AllthisknowledgeIgained,Iintend toshareitwithallofYOUattheupcomingeventsorevenviaSkype.

Togetherwiththetraining,Ihadthechancetomeet membersfromother NGOslikeIFSAandbrainstormonpossiblejointprojectsforthisyear!Stay tunedformoredetails!;)

Lateron,at thebeginningofOctober,the formerand currentECmet at BrusselstostartworkingontheEUgrant.

ButwhatisthisEUgrant? It’saYouthinActiongrantthatsupportsNon-governmentalOrganizations like  IAAS andgive them the financial support they need  to handle their administrational costs (travelling at  events,  printing AR,  IAAS Magazine, etc) WithclosecooperationbetweenthetwoECswesucceededinhandingthe applicationontimeattheEuropeanCommission!

NextactivitywastheIFISOAutumnmeetingorganizedthelastweekend of  October  by  IAAS  and  was  hosted  at  Thessaloniki  by  IAAS Thessaloniki.IFISO,  the  Informal  Forum  of  International  Student Organizations,isaplatformwhereboardmembersofstudentNGOshavethe opportunity  to  meet,  exchange  ideas,  share  best  practices  on  different subjectslikehowtomotivatenewmembers,fundraising,startjointprojects andcontinueexistingones,likeLeadershipSummerSchool.IFISOmeetings takeplacetwiceayearindifferentcountries,hostedbydifferentNGOs. Andrecently,therewasaninformationdayontheEuropeanMaritimeDay 2012at Brussels.EuropeanMaritimeDayisadaydevotedtosustainable growthofoceansandsea,thebluegrowth.Itwasintroducedin2008and everyyearanewcityhostsaconferenceduringthesedaysandorganizes eventsthroughoutthewholeregionoreventhecountry.

Thisyear,theEMD2012willbehostedbyGothenburg,atVastraGotaland regioninSwedenfrom21stofMaytothe22ndofMay.Thereisathoughtof organizingaworkshopduringoneofthesedayswithotherNGOsbutnothing isconcretesofar.

Lastbutnotleast,exceptfromalltheaboveactivities,mailingandtalking throughSkypewithmyteamandallofYOU,happenedataneverydaybasis.

ThisconstantcontactmotivatesandinspiresmetoworkforYOUandwith YOUtomakeourIAASfamilystrongerandbiggerthanever!

havebeenincontact withorganizationslikeEMSA (European Medical Student Association)  andCEJA(EuropeanCouncilofYoungFarmers) andIhavediscussedthepossibilityofsomefutureprojectsthatcouldbenefit IAAS,andIhavebeenworkingonseveralideasthatIwouldwanttopresent ontheEDM. Yetothertwomonthgoneby!Notmuchisnewinthefinancialdepartment.

The  invoices have been sent out but there  are  some mistakes with some CountriesandIamincontacttofixthem.TheonlyrealproblemIamhaving rightnowiswiththeonlinebankingsystem,sountilIgetthatupandrunning again,itwillbehardformetodomuch,soIwouldappreciateyourpatience!

MyobjectivesasVP-Financefornextmonthsare: -CollectthemembershipfeesoftheIAASmembercountries,tomonitorthis inatransparentdocumentandtosupportmembers.

-ToprovidetransparencyofthefinancialsituationofIAASinternationalto the  EC,  CC  and  all  IAAS  members  by  comprehensible  excel  files  and detailedfinancialreports.

-Todiversifythesourcesofincomeofourorganizationandtoimprovethe financialsituationofIAASinternationalincooperationwithVPPartnership.

IwillbeinSloveniaforEDMinDecember,soifyouwouldliketomake paymentsthen,Iwillbewillingtotakethemthere.

Thisisallinshortterms,althoughthereismuchmoreworkthanitappearsto be!
