Stirring Large & Small Quantities Water Rainwater is preferable and, in areas of little pollution, can be collected off the roofs of houses, woodsheds and hay barns. It can be stored in concrete, galvanised iron or untreated wooden tanks. If spring water is used, it should be checked for pollutants and chemical residues. If found to be clean, it should stand in the light and air for two days, as it may have been underground for many years. River water should likewise be checked for purity. Water for stirring should be between 25° and 30°C, and is best heated with a natural heat, such as a flame or sunlight. Suitable heaters are butane or woodburners and solar panels. Do not use electricity.

How to Stir For up to 1 acre of land Up to 13 litres can be comfortably stirred by hand with a small stick. Stir while resting your elbows on your knees. To make a good vortex requires a wristy movement. Start slowly at the edge of the bucket and move into the centre, http://www.biodynamics.in/stir2.htm

increasing the stirring speed. When a crater appears in the water, break it by stirring in the opposite direction. You can change hands when changing direction, and it is easier to always stir outward, i.e. with the right hand clockwise and with the left hand anticlockwise. There should be about three direction changes a minute.

How to Stir For 1-10 acres of land Up to 130 litres can be stirred using a 200-litre plastic drum or an oak barrel, with a 1.3-1.6m long 2.5cm diameter wooden rod, suspended by means of a nylon cord tied firmly to an overhanging branch, beam or a tripod of stout poles. The rod is tied so that it swings 7cm above the bottom of the barrel. The rod thus takes all the weight and makes the stirring and creating of the vortex relatively easy.

Good job! Here comes the vortex!

Want more chaos on the reverse turn? Add some 'brush' to the rod.

How to Stir For 10-200-500 acres of land Up to 550 litres an hour - enough for over 40 acres - can be stirred in the Virbela Flowforms used by biodynamic farmers in India. The movement the water makes as it passes through the flowform cascade is one of alternating vortices. This is very similar to the succession of vortices produced in a bucket wheel stirring, except that you can see the whole succession laid out in front of you at once. The vortices, however, occur one after another, just as they do in a bucket, because the water flows from a clockwise-rotating chamber into an anticlockwise one, and so on. A flowform cascade always has a separate 'entry' form at its head, which sets up the right conditions for water entering the system. With a cascade of seven bowl forms (plus entry form) it is possible to stir up to 550 litres in one hour. With 7-14 (plus one) bowl forms it is possible to stir up to 2700 litres in one hour. At the moment a high-volume, low-pressure pump is used to circulate the water continuously for an hour. Other pumps with a softer action are being investigated.

How to Stir For 10 ml of Preparation BD507 - Valerian 10 ml of Preparation BD507 Valerian in 1-2 litres of pure water is stirred for 10 minutes before adding to a compost heap, a cow pat pit or liquid manure. One of the most efficient ways of stirring such a small quantity is the rhythmic horizontal back and forth movement, at chest level, of a 1-2 litre water bottle. This creates the required vortex movement.
