Welcome

We’re pleased to have you on board. to our community.

Ambassador programme 2023/2024

Born in 1956 as the Institute of Advanced Motorists, our charity was based on the British police system of car and motorcycle control, otherwise known as ‘The System’, created by Mark Everard Pepys, 6th Earl of Cottenhamaristocrat and racing driver, who saw the value in using police driving skills to better driving and riding standards and road safety for all road users.

We are a force for good

We are the UK’s leading road safety charity, reaching far and wide, drivers and riders of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. From new road users to the more experienced; from the confident to the less assured. We don’t discriminate.

We upskill and educate

We help people be the best they can be on road, giving them the skills and knowledge, they need to increase their road safety, and protecting those around them.

IAM RoadSmart: a bit about our charity EDUCATION.

We enjoy driving and riding

In 2016, we became IAM RoadSmart.

We cover the breadth of the UK with a community of 80,000 members with aspiration to grow.

We have in excess of 170 regional Groups and a large team of volunteers on hand to support everyday road users like you, to start their journeys to becoming some of the best drivers and riders on the road.

We set people on their journeys knowing they have the best skills possible to get themselves to places safely: enjoying their leisure time, meeting friends and family, enjoying the flexibility that safe driving and riding brings.

We are ambitious

We want to reduce road incidences and fatalities with increased government lobbying and campaigning, a growing product portfolio, and new ways of reaching and inspiring new audiences.

We are brave

We want to embrace new technologies and develop a clearly defined journey for every single person who comes to us.

And finally, we want to be future-fit for road users of all abilities and backgrounds.

AMBITION. BRAVERY.
ENJOYMENT.
