SHIMMEL MEANS STYLE by Eutille E. Duncan Born to parents Sharon Pantin and Andy Williams, Shimmel Williams exudes grace, intelligence and style. She is a Christian by faith and a member of the Pentecostal religion. She received her early education at the Mason Hall and St. Andrews Anglican Primary Schools. She then went on to Secondary level education at the Goodwood High School. But hair is where Shimmel’s true love lies. From the tender age of eight she started plaiting hair, and by the time she was sixteen years old was doing hair on a professional level. Having found her niche Shimmel set out to shape and perfect her talents; in 2004 she did a course in braiding with Queen Ann. In 2006 she pursued a course in Hairdressing Number 1 at the Youth Training and Employment Partnership Program (YTEPP). And from 2009-2010 she attended the Open Campus at UWI, St. Augustine, Trinidad were she received certification in Proficiency Hairdressing Level 2 from New Beginnings. In 2011 she launched her business; Shimmel’s Hair Salon located at Government House Road. The multifaceted Shimmel specializes in braiding, weaving, relaxing and styling hair for special occasions or simply “if you just want to look special”. She has a deep passion for what she does and she states;”from ever since I could remember everything was Hair.” She finds great joy in challenging herself “It is really satisfying when a client
comes and asks me to do something I never did before and I do it. I can’t explain how it makes me feel, when I accomplish something new.” She believes that true beauty is found n
“being yourself” and she enjoys “making sure that a person is comfortable with how they see themselves.” Shimmel would like other young people who are interested in starting businesses to know; “Always ask
7
questions of other business owners. I was very fortunate to have the assistance of my father the owner of Andy’s Casket, who has been there to guide and support me throughout the years. Young people my advice to you is; when you find that thing you're passionate about don't be afraid to push and follow your dreams.”

WAIZ D SCN: THE YOUTH SPEAK OUT
IN DEFENSE OF THE CHILD
IN DEFENSE OF THE CHILD. with Patricia Nicole Whiteman
Mama Papa Mama, Papa, why am I here? Is it only to be in despair? Why didn’t you take precaution when you were having fun? Now I have to pay the price till my hour come. Daily I eat the bread the devil knead, you are happy, for you have satisfied your sexual greed. So you get upset when I complain, resentment is in your voice and you carry on as though you are going insane. It is your irresponsible actions that resulted in me being born, Did it occur to you that after the night, then comes morn? You should have thought twice before having unprotected sex, For it ended with me, your child, always depress and vex. The pastor always tries to comfort me by saying, “child, it’s not your parent’s fault it’s a generational curse.” I don’t care about that, you should have thought about that first. You can’t provide for me financially, and on second thought not even mentally. Always being physically and emotionally hungry, is making me angry. I have to struggle so much, even to be recognized as a human being, Mama, Papa, you see what I mean? Parents, please let us remember that our children had no choice in the matter of their conception, and given the choice, most of them with what they have to live with, would have chosen otherwise. I urge you parents to treat your children with uttermost love and respect they deserve. Also, be sensitive to their plight, opinions and their views, make them comfortable as possible. Therefore, if this is impossible for you to do, then I beseech you to let the act of conception alone. On a lighter note, “conquer the world through the ability to read”, is the aim and motto of “William and Catherine Romeo Reading Hour” of Delaford Tobago. We welcome boys and girls from all over to our sessions held 10 every second and fourth Sunday of the month.
It is a nonprofit venture founded and presented by poet/writer/ columnist/ poetry facilitator Patricia Nicole Whiteman as a way of giving back to the community. Come and be enlighten through stories fact and fiction, Through the experience your imagination will expand and take you to destinations you never, not even in your wildest nightmares thought existed, at the same time broadening your horizons. During sessions we encourage children to turn pages rather than clicking screens. It is about giving the electronic gadgets a rest which are vastly overtaking and replacing holding and reading from an authentic book. Here are some photos from October to December 2016 of the children having fun on an historic fieldtrip to the Scarborough Library facility, International day of Games at the said location, and end of year social. The group promises more this year with the launching of board games Sunday, filled evenings walk through the village to develop a sense of awareness, appreciation, pride and lots more are in store. So come on up and join the fun!!!

WAIZ D SCN: THE YOUTH SPEAK OUT The Point of View of Those 12 to 21. What do you believe causes bullies to bully? They are not getting enough love from their parents. And they are confused about life. Nicholas Duncan Age 13 It actually .deals with a bunch of different things: • Sometimes their home isn’t all that great, which causes them to have that pent up frustration and anger that they take out on other people. • They also do it to make themselves feel better, because they don’t feel good about themselves. They bully someone to make themselves feel better. • Sometimes their household may be good but they just feel to bully someone for fun. • Most times they bully someone because they don't understand the person. Renee Bruce Age 19 Frustration, hurt, anger and difficulty at home. Odell Joefield Age 18 How they are treated at home; if their parents bully them at home, always beating them and cursing them. Bad parenting can make them take out their anger on other kids. Lashell Frith Age 20 They do it for the fame or attention. Shinelle Gibbs Age 18
13
1. They had experienced bullying themselves 2. Low self esteem, therefore they bully others to make themselves feel better 3. Underneath, they feel powerless to control their own situation and as a means of taking control or controlling others around them. 4. Peer pressure, as they want to belong to a group; thus bullying for acceptance and popularity 5. Most importantly they lack understanding of spiritual things (God and His commandment; that we should love one another). Crystal Henry Age 19 I believe the reason is that what they went through from their past, causes them to lash out on people in a certain way. Because they probably have this idea in their head that in order not to get hurt again , they need to put up a front of being tough. Teiba Watson Age 19 Bullies come from dysfunctional families . A dysfunctional family does not guarantee that a child will become a bully. However ; a large number of bullies come from homes where there is little affection and openness. They may often witness their parents being aggressive towards friends, siblings or other members of the family. Kohreem Nkosi Charles Age 21

Being hurt and abused at home ; such as rape, violence and family separation. Feeling abandoned and alone like no one cares for you or how you feel, so you lash out on others. Kevphia Governor Age 19
They could be getting bullied and want to take it out on someone else, to let others feel their pain. Or low self– esteem. Aaliyah Robinson Age 19

TIPS FOR A TOBAGO WEDDING
DESTINATION LOVE
OH PERFECT LOVE.
DESTINATION LOVE by Adi-Belinda Peters
EVENT: Your dream Wedding & Honeymoon DESTINATION: TOBAGO WHEN: Today and Forever WHO : You & the Love of your life. Can you see it now? The white ruffles of the bridal dress dancing with the lacy foam of the crystal waves as it rushes ashore to gently kiss the sand covered toes of the new groom and his beautiful bride. They stand, arms entwined, staring into the horizon, ready to start their life’s journey together. This is the beginning of their future as Mr. & Mrs. It is also the end of a beautiful, well organized destination wedding in Tobago. Tobago is the smaller of the two islands in the twin Island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, located in the southern Caribbean. At only 7 miles wide and 26 miles long, it is the perfect escape for both your wedding and honeymoon. The Island is rich in greenery all year round, perfect temperature and an assortment of indigenous fruits. The wide selection of coves and beaches are as many as the willing and smiling faces, ready to meet, greet and create the perfect atmosphere for your once in a lifetime moment. Your choices are endless in Tobago. You can choose the all-inclusive resort option or private villas where everything is expertly taken care of for your convenience. For those who still want the thrill of organizing their own wedding they can bring their ideas to personal photographers, wedding planners, and culinary masters to create a unique experience and memories at locations that will last a lifetime. Weddings are a crucial part of the social culture in Tobago. Most residents relish this type of celebration and oftentimes, the entire village may get involved. There is even a yearly cultural celebration called, “The Moriah Ole Time Wedding”; It’s dedicated to showcase the community spirit, traditional music, customs, dances and food influenced by a rich colonial past. So even if you bring no one to celebrate with you, in Tobago, you don’t have to celebrate alone unless you choose to. Photography around the Island is an experience all by itself. Imagine having your wedding and pictures at the sandbank on the outskirts the Nylon Pool; A small area of land miles away from the coastline which seems as though you’re in the middle of the ocean. Your photo shoot or ceremony can also be arranged to take place at one of the many secluded romantic coastlines accessible only by boat. What about sitting together at the base of a waterfall, hiking through the rainforest or trashing the dress in a muddy ATV ride? In Tobago, you can let your imagination run wild. Non-stop flights to Tobago are available from North America and Europe from a variety of carriers. Arrangements can be made prior to your arrival on the Island for registration of marriages and all the other legal procedures.

“OH PERFECT LOVE!!!” by Patricia Nicole Whiteman “He who findeth a wife findeth a good thing and obtaineth favour of God” Proverbs 18:22 (KJV) Marriage, the oldest institution on earth was created and established by God approximately 4004 BC-3074 BC. It is beautiful and perfect in His sight. It is said perfection does not exist on earth but under God in marriage it does. That is why it is of paramount importance to allow God to do the joining and not man. Shannon Ayeeshia Kerr took that sacred stroll down the aisle on August 27th 2017, adorned in blue and white looking like a Barbie doll, to meet her patiently awaiting helpmeet, Keithel Dennision Nedd, equally elegantly dressed in a black and white suit, smile as broad as the River Nile, as his eyes caught sight of his truly blushing bride coming towards him. Aaah…young love, so pure and innocent, what a sight to behold. The couple was all smiles, full of hope for the future as they drove away into the sunset, eager to start their new life together as man and wife. When and where were you two born and raised? “Keithel, Mason Hall Tobago, 21st September, 1990. Shannon, Rockley Vale Tobago 22nd May, 1992.” How and when did you two meet? “We both had attended Mason Hall Secondary School but I graduated before (Keithel). In 2009 I went back for a recommendation to join the service. There was a program taking place in the hall so I decided to go and check it out. He had on a plaid shirt and that caught my eye !
18
Later we connected on Face Book, kept in contact for a year, then lost contact and reconnected in September 2010, officially met in October 2010, and started our courtship on 21st October 2010.” When did you know you found a wife? “One year after Valentine’s Day 2010. We went out for dinner and I gave her a friendship ring.” When did you know you found a husband? “Instantly! In 2009. He was well dressed and exuded confidence! That attracted me.” What was the deciding factor for wedded bliss? “ After a series of conversations especially about a video we saw on YouTube. A guy bought a woman one dozen roses, eleven real and one fake. He told her he will love her until the last one die. This is the said quote I used when I proposed to her. I actually bought her one dozen roses, eleven real and one fake.” How are you both enjoying married life so far? “ Wonderful!!!” Any advice for others thinking of entering Holy Matrimony? “ Take time to know each other, have fun with each other, create movie night and most of all be patient with each other.” Any future plans? “ Business-travel-children.”

SEXUAL SENSE. with Onika Henry B.A, M.Ed.
To Do or Not To Do: Making Sexual Decisions Have you been enjoying the festivity and revelry from Carnival to present: the parties, the eating, and the drinking? The events of Easter, Tobago Jazz festival, and before you know it, we will be into the Heritage and beach-party time. Whichever way you swing, there is highlighted and heightened sensuality and sexuality, and an increased possibility of the presence of erotic energy at festivals and parties. Have you ever thought about how this influences your sexual choices? Where you stand when it comes to engaging in bodily pleasures and sexual-decision-making? How do you decide to engage, or not, in sexual activity? Do you ever compromise your standards and boundaries? Have you ever even clearly defined what your standards and boundaries are? If not, better late than never. There are real ways to empower you to make better sexual health decisions and therefore, decrease your risk of STIs and unplanned pregnancy. Let me share with you, some of the things you can do, to achieve just that. In an atmosphere that swamps and surrounds you with various messages about sex and sexuality - some may be positive and empowering, others are derogatory, shaming or misleading - here are some tips on how you can safeguard your health and have peace of mind about your sexual decisions: 1. Get Accurate Information Find out all the options available to you for safer sex to protect you from Infections and to prevent unplanned or unwanted pregnancy. Latex condoms are easy to get and can help you do both. If you are allergic to latex, get non-latex or polyurethane male condoms, or use female condoms instead. NOTE: Condoms do not protect you from all STIs (e.g. like those obtained through skin to skin contact like herpes and genital warts), so you still need to be careful. For women, there is the ‘morning after pill which works well to prevent pregnancy if you have had unprotected sex, once you have not already ovulated, which leads to another issue - your awareness of how your menstrual cycle works and how pregnancy happens. Ovulation can take place anywhere from the 12th to 16th day of your cycle and sperm can live for up to 4 to 7 days in the female’s body. Be informed! 2. Connect Your Brain With Your Body You know very well that sexual arousal and desire can make you do things you didn't really intend on doing (and with someone you really wouldn't under normal circumstances). So recognise and understand how your desires and fantasies can get triggered and avoid or reduce those triggers. Make concrete and real plans to keep you from falling into temptation. We all know sex can get in the way of thinking smart. 3.

Talk To Your Partner In any sexually charged environment, how do you and your partner deal with sexual situations or challenges, if you are not in each other’s company?
Onika Henry M.Ed. Human Sexuality TOBAGO-BASED SEX EDUCATOR AND SEX COACH: CONSULTS. DESIGNS PRESENTATIONS. Contact: (868)-381-3049 Email:ohenrybusiness@gmail.com www.onikahenry.com Is there trust and freedom of movement? Do you know what each other expects and wants? Talk to each other and then try to establish some guidelines together. 4. Consent This is a big one. “It is not consent, if you make someone afraid, ashamed or feel guilty about saying no.” When you hear "no", do you think "maybe"? Think about your own assumptions about sexual activity and availability. How do you know if your partner/date is interested in engaging in sexual activity? ASK and BE CLEAR about the responses. Also recognise that everyone, involved, has the right to change their minds. 5. Stay Sober You’ve heard this over and over. And it will never change. Various drugs Impair decision making skills as well as physical control over one’s body. Do not make yourself vulnerable if you are unsure of your partner/date. You cannot follow through with your plans for sexual health and safety if you are intoxicated or high. 6. Explore Your Sexual Feelings Fully. Who are you attracted to and why? Is it lust, or deeper and more complex? How strong are your desires? Do you want to take a risk with this person, especially if neither of you are aware of each other’s sexual history? Get Creative Go beyond penetrative sex and explore other ways to be intimate and sensual with someone. There is mutual masturbation for example, and other techniques that do not involve the exchange of body fluids. 7.
While there are no guarantees in life, these tips can help to reduce the chance of making unhealthy and unwise decisions. Whether in or out of Carnival season and other festivities, applying this knowledge and practicing these skills are critical to achieving better sexual health. Have a (safer) sexy time!

BABY TALK with Marissa A. Callender MSN, CNM
SIBLING ADJUSTMENT Your new baby’s siblings will need attention too. The older brother or sister may try to imitate the things that the baby does in order to get attention from mom or dad. SOME BEHAVIORS YOU MIGHT SEE FROM SIBLINGS: • Increased pacifier use • Toileting accidents or bedwetting • Being more “clingy” to mom • Being aggressive to the newborn • Having nightmares STUDIES HAVE SHOWN: Siblings actually mature quickly during this period of time when a new baby comes. You can help your child adjust to the new baby by including them in as much as possible before and after the baby’s birth. SOME WAYS YOU CAN DO THIS ARE: • Encourage them to talk about their feelings towards the baby • Let them “help” in care of the baby • Having small wrapped presents to give to the older child when people bring presents for the baby. • Lots of time for supervised interactions with the baby • Making sure to spend some time each day with the sibling

Why turmeric should be included in your daily diet. Do you often have complications with joint pain, high cholesterol, menstrual pain or acne flare-ups? There are various pharmaceutical medications on the market for the ailments previously mentioned. However, the toxicity and side effects of these medications will most likely negatively affect our bodies in the future. Fortunately, nature provides us with various items, such as Turmeric, to alleviate physical ailments that occur. Turmeric, Curcuma longa, is a plant or root that originates in Southeastern Asia, and was traditionally used in Ayurvedic healing and natural medicine. Curcumin is an essential, active ingredient found in the turmeric plant. Curcumin, an antioxidant, contains anti-inflammatory properties, which also aids in destroying mutated cancer cells. Vitamin C and magnesium are additionally found in the turmeric plant. The bloodstream’s ability to retain curcumin is especially low; therefore, Ayurvedic healers recommend certain consumption methods of turmeric. Black pepper contains piperine, which aids in the absorption of curcumin. Pairing black pepper and turmeric is recommended in order to receive the full benefits found in this healing plant. More ailments Turmeric may be used for include: *Cohn's disease *Weight Loss *Ulcerative colitis *Bypass surgery *Hemorrhage *Diarrhea *Gallbladder disorders *Loss of appetite *Stomach ulcers, Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) *Diabetes *Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection *Bacterial infections *Brain health *Depression *Alzheimer’s disease *Liver damage Primarily, it is best to introduce turmeric to your diet in small amounts. Turmeric is a potent plant and can have strong effects if used incorrectly. Pregnant women can use turmeric; however, it is best to use moderately. Consult your doctor if you plan on consuming more than a small amount of turmeric daily. Turmeric has a bitter taste and many individuals find it difficult to incorporate it into their daily diet and lifestyle. However, there are countless ways to ensure daily consumption and use of turmeric. SIX SIMPLE WAYS TO INCORPORATE TURMERIC USE IN YOUR DAILY LIFE. Turmeric Tea: Boil 1 cup of water. Stir in ¼ teaspoon of ground/grated turmeric and ¾ teaspoon of ground/grated ginger. Simmer for 10 minutes and strain. Add honey to sweeten. Curry Powder: Stir ingredients of 8 parts ground coriander, 4 parts ground cumin and 1 part of turmeric and cayenne pepper or paprika.
27
Smoothie or Green Juice: Blend 4 cups of dark leafy greens, 1 cup of strawberries, 1 cup of blueberries, 2 cups of almond milk, 1-2 pinches of ground turmeric, 2 tablespoons of honey and 1 cup of ice. Drink with milk: Mix 1 teaspoon of turmeric into 1 cup of warm milk of your choice. Add 1 pinch of cinnamon and ½ teaspoon of honey. Roast Veggies: Add a teaspoon of turmeric powder to mixture of cauliflower, broccoli, sweet potato, carrots and chopped onions. Roast in olive oil. Face Mask for glowing skin, acne and dark circles: Stir 1 teaspoon of turmeric, 1 teaspoon of raw honey, a few drops of fresh lemon juice and 1 teaspoon of plain yogurt/milk into a small bowl. Adjust amount of yogurt/milk to form a thick paste. Apply to face evenly and allow face to dry. After 20 minutes, wash with cool water. Dry gently with cloth and moisturize. 10 Proven Health Benefits of Turmeric and Curcumin. (2016, August 18). A CUT OF CLASS. by Eutille E. Duncan Miguel Cunningham knows what it is like to make a complete turn around in life. This husband and father of four, spends his mornings working at Public Health and his afternoons and weekends cutting hair. The soft spoken barber, posses a gentle and unassuming manner, beneath which smolders a burning desire to see the young men that are heading down the wrong road “make a
180°” Born in Tobago in the early 1970’s Miguel grew up at Mary’s Hill with, as he describes, “loving and devoted parents” he attended the Scarborough Anglican Primary School and at the age of seventeen moved to Arima, Trinidad to live with his elder sister Wendyann. He states that Wendyann was a “loving and committed sister,” who only wanted the best for him, but in spite of this he still succumbed to peer pressure, and the need to fit in and found himself involved in a life of drugs.
“I never used but the easy money and flashy things that I got from selling kept me blind to the evil that I was involved in. And I should have known better, because I grew up in a Christian home”. Miguel persisted in following the wrong crowd for years, until one day after returning home to live with his mother in Tobago he got a wake up call. She reminded him of her love for him and how much pain what he was doing was causing her. Till that point he had not been aware that his family even knew the type of lifestyle he was involved in. He believed he had completely covered it up by appearing to comply with their wishes, first attending in St. Benedicts, in Trinidad and then Mt. St George Youth Camp in Tobago, where he had enrolled to learn auto mechanics. Deeply affected by his mother’s genuine anguish over his life choice; Miguel stopped and reflected and at the age of twenty–two found the courage to shake the company he was keeping and step away from the life of drugs. Once the decision was made he found that his family was there willing and ready to support him in building a new life. He first attempted to make a serious go at auto mechanics but found that he was allergic to the grease from the car engines. He then found direction one day when a friend offered to train him in barbering. Once he had leant all he could from his mentor, his elder sister bought him his first set of tools. And paid the first months rent on a small shop which he had in Trinidad. With their 30 love and support in a short time Miguel was making it on his own.
Miguel has taught young men over the years how to make an honest and decent living on the right side of the law. He teaches them how to do styles such as fades, Mohawks, Temple Fades and more from his shop; Cut of Class located at Mary’s Hill, Tobago. Miguel is never shy or slow to dispense advice from the standpoint of someone who has been there and back. And he would like to leave all the young men out there with these words;“don’t follow a life of crime it seems
good when you get the easy money for the clothes, the shoes and the cars, but you can never sleep comfortable. You always feel someone is going to try to take your life to get what you have, and the police always looking for you. Even if you feel you need to do it to survive, in the end it will kill you. ‘live by the sword…’. Turn away from selfishness and turn to God. Most of the ‘pardners’ I had from those days have not lived to see my age. They were killed by rivals or the police. Dead before forty, that is no way to live.”

INSIDE SCOPE: A MAN’S POINT OF VIEW As a man do you prefer to be loved or respected? Why? I would rather be respected more than loved . God created men with an innate ability to want and need respect, more than love. For a man respect is everything. The reality is often times (not all the time) if someone respects you , they will love you. Men are created to be the head in the family and in society. And of such we want to be validated in the form of respect. For a man to feel loved and worthy, he needs to know that he is respected by his significant other. And for him to feel respected he needs for that person to show him their respect, in times of joy and happiness, but also during the times when they are sad or frustrated. Apostle Dr. C. G. Callender Bronx, New York Well respect is the most important yes. To me you could love somebody but don’t respect them. Sometimes a couple might be together but one does not respect the other. Everald James age 36 Bagatelle, Tobago I rather love because love is genuine and intimate. Respect often comes with fear and choosing respect over fear might mean that people will avoid encounters with you. That’s kind of a lonely life, where everyone avoids you. When someone loves you truly it means they respect you as well. It is better to be surrounded with people who love you Carson Smith age 23 St. Vincent

You might know this story, or something like it: Three old wise men were standing outside this lady’s house, she went outside to see why they were there. They introduced themselves as respect, wealth and love. They told her we can change your life but you can only chose one. Excited she rushed back into the house to discuss it with her husband. The husband said wealth with wealth all our problems would be over. The wife said respect. If we had respect for each other things would be a little bit better around the house. Hearing the discussion the daughter-in -law said love. Love would definitely heal and bond relationships. The wife went back outside and chose love to come in. As love started to walk the others followed. They said wherever he goes we follow. Respect is the right leg that love stands on Rhondy Grandison age 46 Indiana Respected! Love for men is generally spelt respect! Vernon Bacchus age 37 Spring Garden Trace, Tobago. Respected . A man appreciates when he is being respected because with respect their comes love, Because people can profess to love and have no respect. A man cannot take disrespect. My wife respects me a lot. I thank God for that and I give her my all because she gives me her all. Collis James Hope, Tobago
That’s a though choice. Can there be love without respect? Well basically I don’t think there can be love without respect, well at least true love. You can compare it to love without trust, which does not make any sense either. Because you can trust someone without loving them but you cant love someone without trusting them, at least that wont be wise! Migaya Mc Millan age 20 Belle Garden, Tobago Through respect we love. My woman of substance will know this preference of mine. Several finer softer things fuel love and make love thrive. Respect guides what is appropriate in a relationship. Clive A. Smith Boyd’s , St. Kitts

I would prefer to be respected. I say this because when you are respected people not only listen, they also take you seriously . Which is something you cannot get all the time when you are loved. You can be loved by people but those same people may not respect you. Respect brings with it a certain amount of power and authority. We vote for our leaders , they do not get there because they were only loved, they are there because we respect them. That’s why as a male I would rather be respected. with Assistant Divisional Fire Officer David Joseph Thomas Operations & Communications, Tobago. The beauty of art can transform any environment into a picturesque and colourful scene, sufficient to unearth beauty, grace and glamour in most individuals. The rekindling effects on one’s emotion and taste create an indelible mark that stimulates real pleasure and singles out the artist as a symbol of immortalization that the years cannot quench.
The advent of a fire at the house or business of an individual or family can be equally picturesque, colourful and glamorous. It can trigger emotions, transform environments and rekindle emotions that most certainly would remain indelible and unquenchable and the resulting pain achieves immortality that is devastating to health and sanity. Create a scene of safety, develop a culture of safety, plan an evacuation, practice a drill routine and adopt an attitude that speaks to value, beauty, preservation and pleasure.

WHO IS HE? by Patricia Nicole Whiteman Who is he? He is Shonari Richardson of Spring Garden, Tobago, currently twenty two years of age. He works at the Tobago Emergency Management Agency under the office of the Chief Secretary. What does he do? He is a sculptor, visual artist and photographer; with a special focus on the fine arts. How did he get into art? He came into this world with the gift of art. His mom told him from the age of one to two years he started by sitting under the couch using chalk to draw fire trucks and police cars, also in his very early years he started using different threads from his mom’s sewing room to make designs. He also used the same threads along with sticks to make toys. As a matter of fact, the evidence of his early drawings can still be seen under the old couch which is presently stored away Why does he paint? He paints to vent his feelings and express himself, also to bring about change; to Tobago and the world at large through art. He can paint anything, anytime, anywhere. Is it safe for us to assume he enjoys what he do? Very much so! Has he won any awards / commendations / scholarships? Yes indeed! In primary school, standard two, there was a horticulture art competition and he came first. Then in secondary school first form, he came second in the World Food Day Art Logo competition in 2007. Again while still at high school; in 2013 & 2014 he was the runner up in the Chief Secretary Art Competition. In 2015 he was part of James Armstrong’s Art Exhibition, “A Retrospective View”. Where can you find some of his art? You can find some of his art in Jamaica, in the homes of performing artistes such as Shabba Ranks and Alkaline, whom he did portraits for, also in the home of former Tobago House of Assembly Chief Secretary; Mr. Orville London, whom he did a portrait for as well. What are his future plans? To reach the world through his art and also to change the mindset of the people in Tobago towards art, because there is a great lack of appreciation for art exhibitions. Does he have any advice for upcoming artist? Yes. As an upcoming artist in Tobago in particular, you might encounter discouragements because of the mindset of the people, but don’t let that stop you, persevere. Also, you must invest both time and finances in order to reap results. Most important, every piece you create, don’t forget to include God in it. 36

TRINBAGO ‘TORY My name is Lee Roberts, currently I am 20 years old, live at Spring Garden (Any further info just stalk me on fb). Anyway, I first started writing poetry back in 2012 and the first poem I ever wrote is showcased here; “I Lost” it should explain how I came about writing it. Poetry for me has been an occasional side hobby (once in a blue moon) and I never dreamt of even publishing any but “here I am” sharing a few. Most of my inspiration comes from emotions, self-thought and things that are around me, whether its people, situations, objects, you name it. I could go on and on but in closing (Sad face here) I am on a journey of finding myself, when I find him I will let you know (if you want to that is)... but for now God bless. I LOST I lost your love, I lost your trust, I lost the one thing I loved so much. I lost my heart, I lost my path, I lost my love, Now we are far apart. I lost my happiness and You lost your sadness, How many nights Can I fight through this? I lost the beginning and I lost the end now to watch this whole story again.
HOW DARK IS YOUR LIGHT? How dark is your light? That you can’t see what's in sight How numb is your pain? That you can’t feel again How brave is your fear That you can stand and stare But how sad is your smile When you don’t feel happy inside How true is your lie? That you feel love inside How wrong is your right? That you can’t see the light How doubtful is your hope? That you can’t seem to cope How cold is your fire? That you don’t feel desire How calm is your surprise? When everything feels like another line How hateful is your love? That you can’t see someone rise above How answered are these questions That we still ask for directions How blind is this truth? That it happens to me and even you

Greetings- I am RenĂŠe Lilian. On February 20th, 1986 I was born in Arima, Trinidad. I was born with a rare condition called Glycogen Storage Disease; I deal with constant pain and fatigue. In 1988 I moved to New York to get treatment. After 27 years I moved back home and I now developed an empire state of mind...I used to write poetry in high school but I stopped after the passing of my best friend. Then one day in December (2015) at 1 in the morning The Lord woke me up, told me to get a pen and I wrote one of my favorite pieces "A Warrior's Battle". I am currently writing a book, uplifting, inspiring, motivating... https://www.facebook.com/WarriorPrincess-Ren%C3%A9e-Lilian-1826817957639682/ Beyond Human Eyes There is more. More to the main character than the show. More to the show than what you saw. More to the story than what you heard. There's more to the promise than his word More to the argument than your side. Take a look beyond the egos, have a view past your pride. A reaction followed an action. Every effect had a cause. PAY ATTENTION! life has no pause. There was more to the choice than what you chose. Pick a sunflower, pick a daisy, pick a lily or pick a rose. Chess is more than a game. LOVE IS GREATER than pain. Feelings never stay the same. Before you felt the tears, emotions were provoked. And before the world you know, God spoke! I hope you're listening, He's still speaking. I hope you're seeking. There's more to the storm than the rain. Wherever you are don't get comfortable, life never remains the same. Life is more than trials, life is more than stages. Don't judge a book by its cover And have a view beyond its pages. There's more to the alphabet than A, B, C. This picture is far greater than what the eyes can see. God created us both physical and spiritual. But we get so caught up in the seen. Tell us what's the scene. And we're consumed with what's on the screen. But let's not walk by sight. Let's live for what's greater. SEEK... Find The Creator.

AH WENT AWAY by Patricia Nicole Whiteman Migration dates back to 2085 to 2075 BC, with Abraham and his family by God’s command in the book of Genesis Chapter 11 verse 13 in the Holy Bible. Since then to now everyday some even risking their lives, thousands of people can be seen milling about at various harbours and airports all over the world, making up time before boarding a ship or flight to go in search of greener pastures. For some it is better education, others becoming more financially buoyant, a better way of life, or just seeking adventure For some migrants, after achieving all of the above, Glen Campbell's song, “There is no place like home” proves true. Then a longing for the land of their birth starts tugging at there soul. One such person to yield to that tugging is returnee visual artist, photographer, sculptor, Tony McKenna. When and where were you born and bred? I was born July 20th 1952, Success Village, Laventille Trinidad. My father, Lesley McKenna, was a police officer who was transferred from Tobago to Trinidad when he met my mom, who was an RN. In 1962 I left Trinidad at the age of ten for Tobago. I spent three years at Lambeau, and two years at Charlottville where Hurricane Flora caught me. What schools did you attend in your early years? Eastern Boys, Laventille Government, Lambeau Primary and Charlottville Primary. Where, when and why did you migrate? My sister and I migrated to USA, Brooklyn, New York in 1967 to be with our mother who was already there since 1960, continuing her work as an RN, I was fifteen years old. How was life there, and what did you do? Life was very interesting because it was the Age of Aquarius and enlightenment. I attended Art school, I also got into sculpting and photography.” Why and when did you get into these arts? It is hard to give an actual date and time because I did not get into art, art was always in me. From the time I could use my hands I started sketching and painting. Have you ever received any Scholarships/ 40 Commendations/ Awards in your field?
Oh yes! In June 1970, I came third in an art competition in high school and received the Alexandra School Art League Medal, and because of that a scholarship to Pratt Institute of Art, Brooklyn New York. At my graduation from high school the Honorable Shirley Chisholm, then Congresswoman for New York, delivered the feature address. This of course was very historic because she later went on to be the first black woman to run for the Presidency of the United States of America. What is a typical day of painting like for you? Very relaxing, fulfilling, its gives me a peace of mind. Would it be safe to say you like what you do? Yes of course! When and why did you return home? Ten years ago, I returned because my dad whom I have not seen for forty years was getting down in age. I wanted to spend time with him, which I manage to do, I had four good years with him before his passing. After his death I decided to stay, because of the serenity and tranquility of the island here in Tobago. I can focus better and get more done than in New York, which is noisy and has plenty of distractions. What have you been doing since your father’s death? Just what God created me to do; ART.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN THANK YOU CHILLAX CORNER
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: We are not always aware of those who are visually impaired in our midst. These persons who have reduced central visual acuity of 20/200 or less in their better eye with use of the best eyeglass lens to correct their eyesight; or a limitation of their field of view such that the widest diameter of the visual field in their better eye subtends an angle no greater than 20 degrees. With sight impaired to this extent, although still functional, they are legally blind; therefore we need to make provision for such ones in our society. We can start by making sure we have adequate lighting outside public buildings where nightly functions are frequently held. These venues include but are not limited to; Community Centers , Libraries, Parks etc. Highlighters are desperately needed to indicate the threaders on public steps such as; those along Burnette Hill in Scarborough also those outside the Scarborough Library Facility and various sidewalks and pavements in the town. Thanks in advance for a speedy response. To this URGENT APPEAL! Sincerely Yours, Patricia Nicole Whiteman 44
