Beginning Freshman Admission To apply for admission
1. Take the ACT or SAT. In addition to their use in admission decisions, subscores are used for course placement in English and math. 2. Submit the admission application and include the one-time, non-refundable $25 fee. 3. Request that your high school counselor or principal submit a transcript showing your class rank, cumulative GPA and ACT/SAT scores. 4. Submit a final transcript showing high school graduation and successful completion of all course work.
A first-time freshman applicant is evaluated on ACT/SAT score, high school cumulative GPA, class rank and high school core curriculum courses. Admission options: u Option 1 – (regular admission) Composite ACT of 21 or SAT combined score (Critical Reading and Math) of 990 or higher, cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher and 17 units of core curriculum u Option 2 – (regular admission) Composite ACT of 18 or SAT combined score (Critical Reading and Math) of 860 or higher, cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher and 17 units of core curriculum High school curriculum requirements To be admitted to Southeast, you must complete a minimum of 17 high school units (year-long classes) in the following areas: 4 English – 4 units (two emphasizing composition or writing skills; one may be speech or debate) 4 Mathematics – 3 units (Algebra I, Algebra II/Intermediate Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry or Calculus) 4 Social Studies – 3 units (one unit of American history and one semester of government required) 4 Science – 3 units (not including general science; selected from biology, chemistry, physics, botany, zoology or anatomy & physiology; one must be a laboratory course) 4 Visual/Performing Arts – 1 unit (art, dance, music or theatre) 4 Additional – 3 units (foreign language and/or a combination of two or more from the above areas) Converting a high school GPA to a 4.0 scale If your school does not grade on a 4.0 scale, convert your GPA to a 4.0 equivalent by multiplying your GPA by four and dividing that number by the scale your school uses. For example, if you have a 4.38 GPA on a 5.0 scale, your converted GPA equivalent is 3.5 [(4.38x4)/5=3.50].
Information for students who have earned dual credit Students who have earned dual credit/early college credit in high school should apply as beginning freshman. If the dual credit/early college credit was earned at Southeast, you have already paid the application fee, but you do need to apply for beginning freshman admission and meet the published deadlines to be considered for admission and scholarships.
Information for Home-Schooled Students
Home schooled students should submit the home-schooling transcript with each course listed by academic year and graded. The home-school educator should sign the official transcript. When course titles do not clearly reflect subject content, please include a description. Include an estimated completion/graduation date. If your home-school is using a transcript service, have the service send an official transcript.
Non-traditional Student Admission
Applicants who are non-traditional for the purpose of admission are 21 years of age or older, married, supporting a dependent child or a veteran with qualified armed forces active duty. Documentation is required. High school transcripts with proof of graduation or completion of GED must be submitted. Alternative testing to the ACT/SAT will be arranged through Testing Services.
Admission appeals Southeast will conditionally admit a limited number of students on a space available basis who do not meet regular admission criteria. Preference is given to Missouri students who reside
within a 50-mile radius of the Cape Girardeau campus. Conditional admission requires a minimum 2.0 cumulative high school GPA, a minimum ACT composite of 18 (SAT combined score of 860) and completion of core curriculum. To be considered for conditional admission, submit a letter of appeal with the admission application. The letter should be addressed to the Admissions Committee and address your readiness to perform academically at the college level. Conditionally admitted students are required to participate in the Academic Enhancement Program (AEP). If you are offered conditional admission, you will receive AEP information and a contract by mail. When the contract is signed and returned to the University, you will receive a letter of admission and orientation, course registration and housing information. The early admission consideration deadline is December 15. Preference will be given to students who apply by this date. The Academic Enhancement Program (AEP) is a conditional admission program that provides additional academic support. Students admitted through this program may enroll as degree-seeking, full-time students but will be limited to 12 credit hours in the first semester. This program connects first-year students to the University’s academic support services offered by Learning Assistance Programs. Students in the program work with an academic coach to identify academic challenges and develop a plan for academic success.

Transfer admission requirements You are eligible for admission as a transfer student if you are in good
academic standing at your last accredited college/university, have a 2.0 cumulative transfer GPA and 24 or more transferable hours. If you are not in good academic standing at your last accredited college/university you may be considered for probationary admission to Southeast one year after your last semester of full-time enrollment.

When to apply Apply for transfer admission at the beginning of your last semester at the current college. You do not need to wait until your current semester is completed. Important Scholarship Information 1. Merit scholarships are awarded to regularly admitted beginning freshmen at the time of admission to the University (no separate application required). 2. Cumulative GPA requirements are based on a 4.0 grade scale. 3. Scholarship recipients must be enrolled full-time (minimum 12 hours per semester). 4. Scholarships are available to graduates from accredited secondary schools for the fall semester following graduation. Schools should be accredited by a recognized accreditation agency such as state departments of education or North Central. 5. The December national ACT/SAT test dates are the final test dates used for Governor’s and Regents’ Scholarship consideration. If funds allow, February test dates are the final tests used for all other merit scholarships. 6. Incidental fees: The Governor’s and Regents’ Scholarships pay incidental fees for the equivalent of up to 30 Southeast credit hours per academic year (15 hours per fall and spring semesters). 7. Room and board includes a community style, double occupancy room with a 15-meal plan. 8. Renewal criteria: All merit scholarships (excluding the Regional Achievement Award) are renewable for 3 additional academic years for a maximum of 4 consecutive academic years with a Southeast cumulative 3.5 GPA and a minimum of 30 Southeast credit hours per academic year (may include Southeast summer hours). Transfer credit/GPA is not included when calculating scholarship renewal eligibility. 9. Community college presidents in the Southeast Missouri State University service region may nominate two students. Contact your community college financial aid office to determine your school’s eligibility. This award may not be combined with the Community College or Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships. Nominees must meet the minimum criteria for the Community College Scholarship (see below). Be a member of Phi Theta Kappa and have a cumulative 3.5 GPA and 24 or more transferable hours (may be combined with the Community College Scholarship).

Endowed and Sponsored Scholarships - 2010-2011 Southeast offers numerous endowed and sponsored scholarships established by alumni, friends of the University, campus clubs, organizations and departments with a broad range of criteria and emphases. Requirements may include residency in a specified county, a minimum high school GPA, a certain major or financial need as determined by the FAFSA. These are competitive scholarships, which require the submission of a new scholarship application each year prior to the deadline. Scholarships that require financial need require a FAFSA to be processed by March 1.

Early College Credit/Dual Credit For incoming freshmen, early college credit and dual credit are viable options to get a “head start” toward a Southeast degree. Both early college credit and dual credit classes are accepted at the University. Before making the decision to earn college credit, verify that your credits are both transferable and necessary. First, find out the name of the institution granting the credit, the course name, and the course number of the class you will be taking. Using this information, you can check the transferability of the course to Southeast at www.semo.edu/rl/Registrar/index.asp.
At Southeast, all students are required to take general courses called “University Studies”. These courses are split into categories; Southeast students are required to complete one course from each category to graduate from Southeast.

The best classes to take as early college credit or dual credit are 1) transferable to Southeast and International Baccalaureate (IB) 2) fill a University Studies requirement. Credit for AP Examinations will be granted for each examination in which a student receives a score of 3 or above. RESIDENCE HALLS
The new residence hall, opened in August of
2009, is a suite-style community with private bathroom facilities and multiple student living rooms/lounges on each floor. The new residence hall has a large game and common area on the lowest level, spacious laundry facilities, and a grab-n-go retail dining area on the main level. The residence hall is focused on integrating students’ academic lives with their living environment. This integration is accomplished through learning and theme communities based around various academic disciplines.

Myers Hall, renovated in 2001, offers four-person
suites for students planning to remain on campus during break periods or summer. Each four-person suite has its own bathroom and moveable furniture.
Housing options include both traditional community and suite-style housing. Each floor is staffed with a resident assistant to answer questions and connect you with academic resources. Your residence halls have all the furniture you need, but it’s up to you to make it your own! Vandiver Hall, which opened in the fall of 2002,
offers living space for 293 students in suite-style environments. Each spacious four-person suite has its own bathroom and is furnished with moveable furniture. The hall features many lounges, a game room and a large laundry facility.
