CHAPTER1

1Onthethirdday,Godplantedthegardenintheeastof theearth,ontheborderoftheworldeastward,beyond which,towardsthesun-rising,onefindsnothingbutwater, thatencompassesthewholeworld,andreachesuntothe bordersofheaven.

2Andtothenorthofthegardenthereisaseaofwafer, clearandpuretothetaste,likeuntonothingelse;sothat, throughtheclearnessthereof,onemaylookintothedepths oftheearth

3Andwhenamanwasheshimselfinit,becomescleanof thecleannessthereof,andwhiteofitswhiteness--evenifhe weredark

4AndGodcreatedthatseaofHisowngoodpleasure,for HeknewwhatwouldcomeofthemanHeshouldmake;so thatafterhehadleftthegarden,onaccountofhis transgression,menshouldbebornintheearth,fromamong whomrighteousonesshoulddie,whosesoulsGodwould raiseatthelastday;whentheyshouldreturntotheirflesh; shouldbatheinthewaterofthatsea,andallofthemrepent oftheirsins

5ButwhenGodmadeAdamgooutofthegarden,Hedid notplacehimontheborderofitnorthward,lestheshould drawneartotheseaofwater,andheandEvewash themselvesinit,becleansedfromtheirsins,forgetthe transgressiontheyhadcommitted,andhenolonger remindedofitinthethoughtoftheirpunishment

6Then,again,astothesouthernsideofthegarden,God wasnotpleasedtoletAdamdwellthere;because,whenthe windblewfromthenorth,itwouldbringhim,onthat southernside,thedelicioussmellofthetreesofthegarden

7WhereforeGoddidnotputAdamthere,lestheshould smellthesweetsmellofthosetreesforgethistransgression, andfindconsolationforwhathehaddone,takedelightin thesmellofthetrees,andnotbecleansedfromhis transgression

8Again,also,becauseGodismercifulandofgreatpity, andgovernsallthingsinawayHealoneknows--Hemade ourfatherAdamdwellinthewesternborderofthegarden, becauseonthatsidetheearthisverybroad 9AndGodcommandedhimtodwellthereinacaveina rock--theCaveofTreasuresbelowthegarden

CHAPTER2

1ButwhenourfatherAdam,andEve,wentoutofthe garden,theytrodthegroundontheirfeet,notknowing theyweretreading

2Andwhentheycametotheopeningofthegateofthe garden,andsawthebroadearthspreadbeforethem, coveredwithstoneslargeandsmall,andwithsand,they fearedandtrembled,andfellontheirfaces,fromthefear thatcameuponthem;andtheywereasdead.

3Because--whereastheyhadhithertobeeninthegardenland,beautifullyplantedwithallmanneroftrees--theynow

sawthemselves,inastrangeland,whichtheyknewnot, andhadneverseen

4Andbecauseatthattimetheywerefilledwiththegrace ofabrightnature,andtheyhadnotheartsturnedtowards earthlythings

5ThereforehadGodpityonthem;andwhenHesawthem fallenbeforethegateofthegarden,HesentHisWordunto fatherAdamandEve,andraisedthemfromtheirfallen state.

CHAPTER3

1GodsaidtoAdam,"Ihaveordainedonthisearthdays andyears,andthouandthyseedshalldwellandwalkinit, untilthedaysandyearsarefulfilled;whenIshallsendthe Wordthatcreatedthee,andagainstwhichthouhast transgressed,theWordthatmadetheecomeoutofthe gardenandthatraisedtheewhenthouwastfallen.

2Yea,theWordthatwillagainsavetheewhenthefive daysandahalfarefulfilled"

3ButwhenAdamheardthesewordsfromGod,andofthe greatfivedaysandahalf,hedidnotunderstandthe meaningofthem.

4ForAdamwasthinkingthattherewouldbebutfivedays andahalfforhim,totheendoftheworld

5AndAdamwept,andprayedGodtoexplainittohim

6ThenGodinHismercyforAdamwhowasmadeafter Hisownimageandsimilitude,explainedtohim,thatthese were5,000and500years;andhowOnewouldthencome andsavehimandhisseed

7ButGodhadbeforethatmadethiscovenantwithour father,Adam,inthesameterms,erehecameoutofthe garden,whenhewasbythetreewhereofEvetookthefruit andgaveithimtoeat

8InasmuchaswhenourfatherAdamcameoutofthe garden,hepassedbythattree,andsawhowGodhadthen changedtheappearanceofitintoanotherform,andhowit withered.

9AndasAdamwenttoithefeared,trembledandfell down;butGodinHismercyliftedhimup,andthenmade thiscovenantwithhim.

10And,again,whenAdamwasbythegateofthegarden, andsawthecherubwithaswordofflashingfireinhis hand,andthecherubgrewangryandfrownedathim,both AdamandEvebecameafraidofhim,andthoughthemeant toputthemtodeathSotheyfellontheirfaces,and trembledwithfear.

11Buthehadpityonthem,andshowedthemmercy;and turningfromthemwentuptoheaven,andprayeduntothe Lord,andsaid:--

12"Lord,Thoudidstsendmetowatchatthegateofthe garden,withaswordoffire

13"ButwhenThyservants,AdamandEve,sawme,they fellontheirfaces,andwereasdeadOmyLord,whatshall wedotoThyservants?"

14ThenGodhadpityonthem,andshowedthemmercy, andsentHisAngeltokeepthegarden

15AndtheWordoftheLordcameuntoAdamandEve, andraisedthemup.

16AndtheLordsaidtoAdam,"Itoldtheethatattheend offivedaysandahalf,IwillsendmyWordandsavethee 17"Strengthenthyheart,therefore,andabideintheCave ofTreasures,ofwhichIhavebeforespokentothee"

18AndwhenAdamheardthisWordfromGod,hewas comfortedwiththatwhichGodhadtoldhimForHehad toldhimhowHewouldsavehim.

CHAPTER4

1ButAdamandEveweptforhavingcomeoutofthe garden,theirfirstabode

2And,indeed,whenAdamlookedathisflesh,thatwas altered,heweptbitterly,heandEve,overwhattheyhad doneAndtheywalkedandwentgentlydownintothe CaveofTreasures.

3AndastheycametoitAdamweptoverhimselfandsaid toEve,"Lookatthiscavethatistobeourprisoninthis world,andaplaceofpunishment!

4"Whatisitcomparedwiththegarden?Whatisits narrownesscomparedwiththespaceoftheother?

7"Whatisthesoilofthiscavecomparedwiththegardenland?Thisearth,strewedwithstones;andthat,planted withdeliciousfruit-trees?"

8AndAdamsaidtoEve,"Lookatthineeyes,andatmine, whichaforebeheldangelsinheaven,praising;andthey, too,withoutceasing

10AdamsaidagaintoEve,"Whatisourbodyto-day, comparedtowhatitwasinformerdays,whenwedweltin thegarden?"

11AfterthisAdamdidnotliketoenterthecave,underthe overhangingrock;norwouldheeverhaveenteredit.

12ButhebowedtoGod'sorders;andsaidtohimself, "UnlessIenterthecave,Ishallagainbeatransgressor."

CHAPTER5

1ThenAdamandEveenteredthecave,andstoodpraying, intheirowntongue,unknowntous,butwhichtheyknew well.

2Andastheyprayed,Adamraisedhiseyes,andsawthe rockandtheroofofthecavethatcoveredhimoverhead,so thathecouldseeneitherheaven,norGod'screatures.Sohe weptandsmoteheavilyuponhisbreast,untilhedropped, andwasasdead

14AndEveweptbitterly,andfelluponourfatherAdam; fromhergreatsorrow.

CHAPTER6

1ButGodlookeduponthem;fortheyhadkilled themselvesthroughgreatgrief

2ButHewouldraisethemandcomfortthem.

3He,therefore,sentHisWorduntothem;thattheyshould standandberaisedforthwith

4AndtheLordsaiduntoAdamandEve,"You transgressedofyourownfreewill,untilyoucameoutof thegardeninwhichIhadplacedyou.

5"Ofyourownfreewillhaveyoutransgressedthrough yourdesirefordivinity,greatness,andanexaltedstate, suchasIhave;sothatIdeprivedyouofthebrightnaturein whichyouthenwere,andImadeyoucomeoutofthe gardentothisland,roughandfulloftrouble

7"ButthewickedSatanwhocontinuednotinhisfirst estate,norkepthisfaith;inwhomwasnogoodintent towardsMe,andwhothoughIhadcreatedhim,yetsetMe atnaught,andsoughttheGodhead,sothatIhurledhim downfromheaven,--heitiswhomadethetreeappear pleasantinyoureyes,untilyouateofit,byhearkeningto him

2ThenGodhadpityonthem,andsaid:"OAdam,Ihave madeMycovenantwiththee,andIwillnotturnfromit; neitherwillIlettheereturntothegarden,untilMy covenantofthegreatfivedaysandahalfisfulfilled."

3ThenAdamsaiduntoGod,"OLord,Thoudidstcreateus, andmakeusfittobeinthegarden;andbeforeI transgressed,Thoumadestallbeastscometome,thatI shouldnamethem

7WhentheLordheardthesewordsfromAdam,Hehad pityonhim,andfeltthathehadtrulysaidthatthebeastsof thefieldwouldriseanddevourhimandEve,becauseHe, theLord,wasangrywiththemtwoonaccountoftheir transgression
