1NowkingDavidwasoldandstrickeninyears;andthey coveredhimwithclothes,buthegatnoheat.

2Whereforehisservantssaiduntohim,Lettherebesought formylordthekingayoungvirgin:andletherstand beforetheking,andlethercherishhim,andletherliein thybosom,thatmylordthekingmaygetheat

3Sotheysoughtforafairdamselthroughoutallthecoasts ofIsrael,andfoundAbishagaShunammite,andbrought hertotheking

4Andthedamselwasveryfair,andcherishedtheking, andministeredtohim:butthekingknewhernot.

5ThenAdonijahthesonofHaggithexaltedhimself, saying,Iwillbeking:andhepreparedhimchariotsand horsemen,andfiftymentorunbeforehim.

6Andhisfatherhadnotdispleasedhimatanytimein saying,Whyhastthoudoneso?andhealsowasavery goodlyman;andhismotherbarehimafterAbsalom.

7AndheconferredwithJoabthesonofZeruiah,andwith Abiatharthepriest:andtheyfollowingAdonijahhelped him.

8ButZadokthepriest,andBenaiahthesonofJehoiada, andNathantheprophet,andShimei,andRei,andthe mightymenwhichbelongedtoDavid,werenotwith Adonijah

9AndAdonijahslewsheepandoxenandfatcattlebythe stoneofZoheleth,whichisbyEnrogel,andcalledallhis brethrentheking'ssons,andallthemenofJudahtheking's servants:

10ButNathantheprophet,andBenaiah,andthemighty men,andSolomonhisbrother,hecallednot

11WhereforeNathanspakeuntoBathshebathemotherof Solomon,saying,HastthounotheardthatAdonijahthe sonofHaggithdothreign,andDavidourlordknowethit not?

12Nowthereforecome,letme,Ipraythee,givethee counsel,thatthoumayestsavethineownlife,andthelife ofthysonSolomon

13GoandgettheeinuntokingDavid,andsayuntohim, Didstnotthou,mylord,Oking,swearuntothine handmaid,saying,AssuredlySolomonthysonshallreign afterme,andheshallsituponmythrone?whythendoth Adonijahreign?

14Behold,whilethouyettalkesttherewiththeking,Ialso willcomeinafterthee,andconfirmthywords

15AndBathshebawentinuntothekingintothechamber: andthekingwasveryold;andAbishagtheShunammite ministereduntotheking

16AndBathshebabowed,anddidobeisanceuntotheking Andthekingsaid,Whatwouldestthou?

17Andshesaiduntohim,Mylord,thouswarestbythe LORDthyGoduntothinehandmaid,saying,Assuredly Solomonthysonshallreignafterme,andheshallsitupon mythrone

18Andnow,behold,Adonijahreigneth;andnow,mylord theking,thouknowestitnot:

19Andhehathslainoxenandfatcattleandsheepin abundance,andhathcalledallthesonsoftheking,and

Abiatharthepriest,andJoabthecaptainofthehost:but Solomonthyservanthathhenotcalled 20Andthou,mylord,Oking,theeyesofallIsraelare uponthee,thatthoushouldesttellthemwhoshallsitonthe throneofmylordthekingafterhim

21Otherwiseitshallcometopass,whenmylordtheking shallsleepwithhisfathers,thatIandmysonSolomon shallbecountedoffenders

22And,lo,whilesheyettalkedwiththeking,Nathanthe prophetalsocamein

23Andtheytoldtheking,saying,BeholdNathanthe prophet.Andwhenhewascomeinbeforetheking,he bowedhimselfbeforethekingwithhisfacetotheground

24AndNathansaid,Mylord,Oking,hastthousaid, Adonijahshallreignafterme,andheshallsituponmy throne?

25Forheisgonedownthisday,andhathslainoxenand fatcattleandsheepinabundance,andhathcalledallthe king'ssons,andthecaptainsofthehost,andAbiatharthe priest;and,behold,theyeatanddrinkbeforehim,andsay, GodsavekingAdonijah.

26Butme,evenmethyservant,andZadokthepriest,and BenaiahthesonofJehoiada,andthyservantSolomon, hathhenotcalled.

27Isthisthingdonebymylordtheking,andthouhastnot shewedituntothyservant,whoshouldsitonthethroneof mylordthekingafterhim?

28ThenkingDavidansweredandsaid,CallmeBathsheba Andshecameintotheking'spresence,andstoodbefore theking

29Andthekingsware,andsaid,AstheLORDliveth,that hathredeemedmysouloutofalldistress,

30EvenasIswareuntotheebytheLORDGodofIsrael, saying,AssuredlySolomonthysonshallreignafterme, andheshallsituponmythroneinmystead;evensowillI certainlydothisday.

31ThenBathshebabowedwithherfacetotheearth,and didreverencetotheking,andsaid,LetmylordkingDavid liveforever

32AndkingDavidsaid,CallmeZadokthepriest,and Nathantheprophet,andBenaiahthesonofJehoiada.And theycamebeforetheking

33Thekingalsosaiduntothem,Takewithyouthe servantsofyourlord,andcauseSolomonmysontoride uponmineownmule,andbringhimdowntoGihon:

34AndletZadokthepriestandNathantheprophetanoint himtherekingoverIsrael:andblowyewiththetrumpet, andsay,GodsavekingSolomon

35Thenyeshallcomeupafterhim,thathemaycomeand situponmythrone;forheshallbekinginmystead:andI haveappointedhimtoberuleroverIsraelandoverJudah

36AndBenaiahthesonofJehoiadaansweredtheking, andsaid,Amen:theLORDGodofmylordthekingsayso too

37AstheLORDhathbeenwithmylordtheking,evenso behewithSolomon,andmakehisthronegreaterthanthe throneofmylordkingDavid

38SoZadokthepriest,andNathantheprophet,and BenaiahthesonofJehoiada,andtheCherethites,andthe Pelethites,wentdown,andcausedSolomontorideupon kingDavid'smule,andbroughthimtoGihon

39AndZadokthepriesttookanhornofoiloutofthe tabernacle,andanointedSolomonAndtheyblewthe trumpet;andallthepeoplesaid,GodsavekingSolomon 40Andallthepeoplecameupafterhim,andthepeople pipedwithpipes,andrejoicedwithgreatjoy,sothatthe earthrentwiththesoundofthem

41AndAdonijahandallthegueststhatwerewithhim hearditastheyhadmadeanendofeating.AndwhenJoab heardthesoundofthetrumpet,hesaid,Whereforeisthis noiseofthecitybeinginanuproar?

42Andwhileheyetspake,behold,Jonathanthesonof Abiatharthepriestcame:andAdonijahsaiduntohim, Comein;forthouartavaliantman,andbringestgood tidings.

43AndJonathanansweredandsaidtoAdonijah,Verily ourlordkingDavidhathmadeSolomonking

44AndthekinghathsentwithhimZadokthepriest,and Nathantheprophet,andBenaiahthesonofJehoiada,and theCherethites,andthePelethites,andtheyhavecaused himtorideupontheking'smule:

45AndZadokthepriestandNathantheprophethave anointedhimkinginGihon:andtheyarecomeupfrom thencerejoicing,sothatthecityrangagain.Thisisthe noisethatyehaveheard

46AndalsoSolomonsittethonthethroneofthekingdom

47Andmoreovertheking'sservantscametoblessourlord kingDavid,saying,GodmakethenameofSolomonbetter thanthyname,andmakehisthronegreaterthanthythrone Andthekingbowedhimselfuponthebed.

48Andalsothussaidtheking,BlessedbetheLORDGod ofIsrael,whichhathgivenonetositonmythronethisday, mineeyesevenseeingit.

49AndallthegueststhatwerewithAdonijahwereafraid, androseup,andwenteverymanhisway

50AndAdonijahfearedbecauseofSolomon,andarose, andwent,andcaughtholdonthehornsofthealtar

51AnditwastoldSolomon,saying,Behold,Adonijah fearethkingSolomon:for,lo,hehathcaughtholdonthe hornsofthealtar,saying,LetkingSolomonswearuntome todaythathewillnotslayhisservantwiththesword.

52AndSolomonsaid,Ifhewillshewhimselfaworthy man,thereshallnotanhairofhimfalltotheearth:butif wickednessshallbefoundinhim,heshalldie.

53SokingSolomonsent,andtheybroughthimdownfrom thealtarAndhecameandbowedhimselftokingSolomon: andSolomonsaiduntohim,Gotothinehouse

CHAPTER2

1NowthedaysofDaviddrewnighthatheshoulddie;and hechargedSolomonhisson,saying, 2Igothewayofalltheearth:bethoustrongtherefore,and shewthyselfaman;

3AndkeepthechargeoftheLORDthyGod,towalkin hisways,tokeephisstatutes,andhiscommandments,and hisjudgments,andhistestimonies,asitiswritteninthe lawofMoses,thatthoumayestprosperinallthatthou doest,andwhithersoeverthouturnestthyself:

4ThattheLORDmaycontinuehiswordwhichhespake concerningme,saying,Ifthychildrentakeheedtotheir way,towalkbeforemeintruthwithalltheirheartand withalltheirsoul,thereshallnotfailthee(saidhe)aman onthethroneofIsrael

5MoreoverthouknowestalsowhatJoabthesonof Zeruiahdidtome,andwhathedidtothetwocaptainsof thehostsofIsrael,untoAbnerthesonofNer,andunto AmasathesonofJether,whomheslew,andshedthe bloodofwarinpeace,andputthebloodofwaruponhis girdlethatwasabouthisloins,andinhisshoesthatwere onhisfeet

6Dothereforeaccordingtothywisdom,andletnothis hoarheadgodowntothegraveinpeace.

7ButshewkindnessuntothesonsofBarzillaithe Gileadite,andletthembeofthosethateatatthytable:for sotheycametomewhenIfledbecauseofAbsalomthy brother

8And,behold,thouhastwiththeeShimeithesonofGera, aBenjamiteofBahurim,whichcursedmewithagrievous curseinthedaywhenIwenttoMahanaim:buthecame downtomeetmeatJordan,andIswaretohimbythe LORD,saying,Iwillnotputtheetodeathwiththesword 9Nowthereforeholdhimnotguiltless:forthouartawise man,andknowestwhatthououghtesttodountohim;but hishoarheadbringthoudowntothegravewithblood 10SoDavidsleptwithhisfathers,andwasburiedinthe cityofDavid.

11AndthedaysthatDavidreignedoverIsraelwereforty years:sevenyearsreignedheinHebron,andthirtyand threeyearsreignedheinJerusalem.

12ThensatSolomonuponthethroneofDavidhisfather; andhiskingdomwasestablishedgreatly

13AndAdonijahthesonofHaggithcametoBathshebathe motherofSolomonAndshesaid,Comestthoupeaceably? Andhesaid,Peaceably

14Hesaidmoreover,Ihavesomewhattosayuntothee. Andshesaid,Sayon

15Andhesaid,Thouknowestthatthekingdomwasmine, andthatallIsraelsettheirfacesonme,thatIshouldreign: howbeitthekingdomisturnedabout,andisbecomemy brother's:foritwashisfromtheLORD

16AndnowIaskonepetitionofthee,denymenot.And shesaiduntohim,Sayon

17Andhesaid,Speak,Ipraythee,untoSolomontheking, (forhewillnotsaytheenay,)thathegivemeAbishagthe Shunammitetowife

18AndBathshebasaid,Well;Iwillspeakfortheeuntothe king.

19BathshebathereforewentuntokingSolomon,tospeak untohimforAdonijahAndthekingroseuptomeether, andbowedhimselfuntoher,andsatdownonhisthrone, andcausedaseattobesetfortheking'smother;andshe satonhisrighthand.

20Thenshesaid,Idesireonesmallpetitionofthee;Ipray thee,saymenotnayAndthekingsaiduntoher,Askon, mymother:forIwillnotsaytheenay.

21Andshesaid,LetAbishagtheShunammitebegivento Adonijahthybrothertowife

22AndkingSolomonansweredandsaiduntohismother, AndwhydostthouaskAbishagtheShunammitefor Adonijah?askforhimthekingdomalso;forheismine elderbrother;evenforhim,andforAbiatharthepriest,and forJoabthesonofZeruiah

23ThenkingSolomonswarebytheLORD,saying,God dosotome,andmorealso,ifAdonijahhavenotspoken thiswordagainsthisownlife

24Nowtherefore,astheLORDliveth,whichhath establishedme,andsetmeonthethroneofDavidmy father,andwhohathmademeanhouse,ashepromised, Adonijahshallbeputtodeaththisday

25AndkingSolomonsentbythehandofBenaiahtheson ofJehoiada;andhefelluponhimthathedied

26AnduntoAbiatharthepriestsaidtheking,Gettheeto Anathoth,untothineownfields;forthouartworthyof death:butIwillnotatthistimeputtheetodeath,because thoubarestthearkoftheLordGODbeforeDavidmy father,andbecausethouhastbeenafflictedinallwherein myfatherwasafflicted

27SoSolomonthrustoutAbiatharfrombeingpriestunto theLORD;thathemightfulfilthewordoftheLORD, whichhespakeconcerningthehouseofEliinShiloh

28ThentidingscametoJoab:forJoabhadturnedafter Adonijah,thoughheturnednotafterAbsalom.AndJoab fleduntothetabernacleoftheLORD,andcaughtholdon thehornsofthealtar

29AnditwastoldkingSolomonthatJoabwasfledunto thetabernacleoftheLORD;and,behold,heisbythealtar ThenSolomonsentBenaiahthesonofJehoiada,saying, Go,falluponhim.

30AndBenaiahcametothetabernacleoftheLORD,and saiduntohim,Thussaiththeking,ComeforthAndhe said,Nay;butIwilldiehere.AndBenaiahbroughtthe kingwordagain,saying,ThussaidJoab,andthushe answeredme

31Andthekingsaiduntohim,Doashehathsaid,andfall uponhim,andburyhim;thatthoumayesttakeawaythe innocentblood,whichJoabshed,fromme,andfromthe houseofmyfather.

32AndtheLORDshallreturnhisblooduponhisown head,whofellupontwomenmorerighteousandbetter thanhe,andslewthemwiththesword,myfatherDavid notknowingthereof,towit,AbnerthesonofNer,captain ofthehostofIsrael,andAmasathesonofJether,captain ofthehostofJudah.

33TheirbloodshallthereforereturnupontheheadofJoab, andupontheheadofhisseedforever:butuponDavid, anduponhisseed,anduponhishouse,anduponhisthrone, shalltherebepeaceforeverfromtheLORD

34SoBenaiahthesonofJehoiadawentup,andfellupon him,andslewhim:andhewasburiedinhisownhousein thewilderness

35AndthekingputBenaiahthesonofJehoiadainhis roomoverthehost:andZadokthepriestdidthekingputin theroomofAbiathar

36AndthekingsentandcalledforShimei,andsaidunto him,BuildtheeanhouseinJerusalem,anddwellthere,and gonotforththenceanywhither

37Foritshallbe,thatonthedaythougoestout,and passestoverthebrookKidron,thoushaltknowforcertain thatthoushaltsurelydie:thybloodshallbeuponthine ownhead.

38AndShimeisaiduntotheking,Thesayingisgood:as mylordthekinghathsaid,sowillthyservantdoAnd ShimeidweltinJerusalemmanydays.

39Anditcametopassattheendofthreeyears,thattwoof theservantsofShimeiranawayuntoAchishsonof MaachahkingofGath.AndtheytoldShimei,saying, Behold,thyservantsbeinGath

40AndShimeiarose,andsaddledhisass,andwentto GathtoAchishtoseekhisservants:andShimeiwent,and broughthisservantsfromGath

41AnditwastoldSolomonthatShimeihadgonefrom JerusalemtoGath,andwascomeagain.

42AndthekingsentandcalledforShimei,andsaidunto him,DidInotmaketheetoswearbytheLORD,and protesteduntothee,saying,Knowforacertain,ontheday thougoestout,andwalkestabroadanywhither,thatthou shaltsurelydie?andthousaidstuntome,ThewordthatI haveheardisgood.

43WhythenhastthounotkepttheoathoftheLORD,and thecommandmentthatIhavechargedtheewith?

44ThekingsaidmoreovertoShimei,Thouknowestallthe wickednesswhichthineheartisprivyto,thatthoudidstto Davidmyfather:thereforetheLORDshallreturnthy wickednessuponthineownhead;

45AndkingSolomonshallbeblessed,andthethroneof DavidshallbeestablishedbeforetheLORDforever

46SothekingcommandedBenaiahthesonofJehoiada; whichwentout,andfelluponhim,thathediedAndthe kingdomwasestablishedinthehandofSolomon

CHAPTER3

1AndSolomonmadeaffinitywithPharaohkingofEgypt, andtookPharaoh'sdaughter,andbroughtherintothecity ofDavid,untilhehadmadeanendofbuildinghisown house,andthehouseoftheLORD,andthewallof Jerusalemroundabout

2Onlythepeoplesacrificedinhighplaces,becausethere wasnohousebuiltuntothenameoftheLORD,untilthose days

3AndSolomonlovedtheLORD,walkinginthestatutesof Davidhisfather:onlyhesacrificedandburntincensein highplaces

4AndthekingwenttoGibeontosacrificethere;forthat wasthegreathighplace:athousandburntofferingsdid Solomonofferuponthataltar

5InGibeontheLORDappearedtoSolomoninadreamby night:andGodsaid,AskwhatIshallgivethee.

6AndSolomonsaid,Thouhastsheweduntothyservant Davidmyfathergreatmercy,accordingashewalked beforetheeintruth,andinrighteousness,andin uprightnessofheartwiththee;andthouhastkeptforhim thisgreatkindness,thatthouhastgivenhimasontositon histhrone,asitisthisday

7Andnow,OLORDmyGod,thouhastmadethyservant kinginsteadofDavidmyfather:andIambutalittlechild: Iknownothowtogooutorcomein

8Andthyservantisinthemidstofthypeoplewhichthou hastchosen,agreatpeople,thatcannotbenumberednor countedformultitude

9Givethereforethyservantanunderstandingheartto judgethypeople,thatImaydiscernbetweengoodandbad: forwhoisabletojudgethisthysogreatapeople?

10AndthespeechpleasedtheLord,thatSolomonhad askedthisthing.

11AndGodsaiduntohim,Becausethouhastaskedthis thing,andhastnotaskedforthyselflonglife;neitherhast askedrichesforthyself,norhastaskedthelifeofthine enemies;buthastaskedforthyselfunderstandingto discernjudgment;

12Behold,Ihavedoneaccordingtothywords:lo,Ihave giventheeawiseandanunderstandingheart;sothatthere wasnoneliketheebeforethee,neitheraftertheeshallany ariselikeuntothee

13AndIhavealsogiventheethatwhichthouhastnot asked,bothriches,andhonour:sothatthereshallnotbe anyamongthekingslikeuntotheeallthydays

14Andifthouwiltwalkinmyways,tokeepmystatutes andmycommandments,asthyfatherDaviddidwalk,then Iwilllengthenthydays

15AndSolomonawoke;and,behold,itwasadream.And hecametoJerusalem,andstoodbeforethearkofthe covenantoftheLORD,andofferedupburntofferings,and offeredpeaceofferings,andmadeafeasttoallhisservants.

16Thencametheretwowomen,thatwereharlots,untothe king,andstoodbeforehim

17Andtheonewomansaid,Omylord,Iandthiswoman dwellinonehouse;andIwasdeliveredofachildwithher inthehouse

18AnditcametopassthethirddayafterthatIwas delivered,thatthiswomanwasdeliveredalso:andwewere together;therewasnostrangerwithusinthehouse,save wetwointhehouse.

19Andthiswoman'schilddiedinthenight;becauseshe overlaidit

20Andshearoseatmidnight,andtookmysonfrombeside me,whilethinehandmaidslept,andlaiditinherbosom, andlaidherdeadchildinmybosom

21AndwhenIroseinthemorningtogivemychildsuck, behold,itwasdead:butwhenIhadconsidereditinthe morning,behold,itwasnotmyson,whichIdidbear

22Andtheotherwomansaid,Nay;butthelivingismy son,andthedeadisthysonAndthissaid,No;butthe deadisthyson,andthelivingismysonThustheyspake beforetheking.

23Thensaidtheking,Theonesaith,Thisismysonthat liveth,andthysonisthedead:andtheothersaith,Nay;but thysonisthedead,andmysonistheliving.

24Andthekingsaid,BringmeaswordAndtheybrought aswordbeforetheking.

25Andthekingsaid,Dividethelivingchildintwo,and givehalftotheone,andhalftotheother 26Thenspakethewomanwhosethelivingchildwasunto theking,forherbowelsyearneduponherson,andshesaid, Omylord,giveherthelivingchild,andinnowiseslayit Buttheothersaid,Letitbeneitherminenorthine,but divideit

27Thenthekingansweredandsaid,Givehertheliving child,andinnowiseslayit:sheisthemotherthereof.

28AndallIsraelheardofthejudgmentwhichthekinghad judged;andtheyfearedtheking:fortheysawthatthe wisdomofGodwasinhim,todojudgment.

1SokingSolomonwaskingoverallIsrael

2Andtheseweretheprinceswhichhehad;Azariahthe sonofZadokthepriest, 3ElihorephandAhiah,thesonsofShisha,scribes; JehoshaphatthesonofAhilud,therecorder

4AndBenaiahthesonofJehoiadawasoverthehost:and ZadokandAbiatharwerethepriests:

5AndAzariahthesonofNathanwasovertheofficers:and ZabudthesonofNathanwasprincipalofficer,andthe king'sfriend:

6AndAhisharwasoverthehousehold:andAdoniramthe sonofAbdawasoverthetribute.

7AndSolomonhadtwelveofficersoverallIsrael,which providedvictualsforthekingandhishousehold:eachman hismonthinayearmadeprovision.

8Andthesearetheirnames:ThesonofHur,inmount Ephraim:

9ThesonofDekar,inMakaz,andinShaalbim,and Bethshemesh,andElonbethhanan:

10ThesonofHesed,inAruboth;tohimpertainedSochoh, andallthelandofHepher:

11ThesonofAbinadab,inalltheregionofDor;which hadTaphaththedaughterofSolomontowife:

12BaanathesonofAhilud;tohimpertainedTaanachand Megiddo,andallBethshean,whichisbyZartanahbeneath Jezreel,fromBethsheantoAbelmeholah,evenuntothe placethatisbeyondJokneam:

13ThesonofGeber,inRamothgilead;tohimpertained thetownsofJairthesonofManasseh,whichareinGilead; tohimalsopertainedtheregionofArgob,whichisin Bashan,threescoregreatcitieswithwallsandbrasenbars: 14AhinadabthesonofIddohadMahanaim: 15AhimaazwasinNaphtali;healsotookBasmaththe daughterofSolomontowife: 16BaanahthesonofHushaiwasinAsherandinAloth: 17JehoshaphatthesonofParuah,inIssachar: 18ShimeithesonofElah,inBenjamin: 19GeberthesonofUriwasinthecountryofGilead,inthe countryofSihonkingoftheAmorites,andofOgkingof Bashan;andhewastheonlyofficerwhichwasintheland 20JudahandIsraelweremany,asthesandwhichisbythe seainmultitude,eatinganddrinking,andmakingmerry. 21AndSolomonreignedoverallkingdomsfromtheriver untothelandofthePhilistines,anduntotheborderof Egypt:theybroughtpresents,andservedSolomonallthe daysofhislife

22AndSolomon'sprovisionforonedaywasthirty measuresoffineflour,andthreescoremeasuresofmeal, 23Tenfatoxen,andtwentyoxenoutofthepastures,and anhundredsheep,besideharts,androebucks,and fallowdeer,andfattedfowl.

24Forhehaddominionoveralltheregiononthissidethe river,fromTiphsaheventoAzzah,overallthekingson thissidetheriver:andhehadpeaceonallsidesround abouthim

25AndJudahandIsraeldweltsafely,everymanunderhis vineandunderhisfigtree,fromDaneventoBeersheba, allthedaysofSolomon

26AndSolomonhadfortythousandstallsofhorsesforhis chariots,andtwelvethousandhorsemen

27AndthoseofficersprovidedvictualforkingSolomon, andforallthatcameuntokingSolomon'stable,everyman inhismonth:theylackednothing

28Barleyalsoandstrawforthehorsesanddromedaries broughttheyuntotheplacewheretheofficerswere,every manaccordingtohischarge

29AndGodgaveSolomonwisdomandunderstanding exceedingmuch,andlargenessofheart,evenasthesand thatisontheseashore

30AndSolomon'swisdomexcelledthewisdomofallthe childrenoftheeastcountry,andallthewisdomofEgypt

31Forhewaswiserthanallmen;thanEthantheEzrahite, andHeman,andChalcol,andDarda,thesonsofMahol: andhisfamewasinallnationsroundabout.

1AndHiramkingofTyresenthisservantsuntoSolomon; forhehadheardthattheyhadanointedhimkinginthe roomofhisfather:forHiramwaseveraloverofDavid.

2AndSolomonsenttoHiram,saying,

3ThouknowesthowthatDavidmyfathercouldnotbuild anhouseuntothenameoftheLORDhisGodforthewars whichwereabouthimoneveryside,untiltheLORDput themunderthesolesofhisfeet

4ButnowtheLORDmyGodhathgivenmerestonevery side,sothatthereisneitheradversarynoreviloccurrent

5And,behold,Ipurposetobuildanhouseuntothename oftheLORDmyGod,astheLORDspakeuntoDavidmy father,saying,Thyson,whomIwillsetuponthythronein thyroom,heshallbuildanhouseuntomyname

6Nowthereforecommandthouthattheyhewmecedar treesoutofLebanon;andmyservantsshallbewiththy servants:anduntotheewillIgivehireforthyservants accordingtoallthatthoushaltappoint:forthouknowest thatthereisnotamongusanythatcanskilltohewtimber likeuntotheSidonians

7Anditcametopass,whenHiramheardthewordsof Solomon,thatherejoicedgreatly,andsaid,Blessedbethe LORDthisday,whichhathgivenuntoDavidawiseson overthisgreatpeople.

8AndHiramsenttoSolomon,saying,Ihaveconsidered thethingswhichthousentesttomefor:andIwilldoall thydesireconcerningtimberofcedar,andconcerning timberoffir

9MyservantsshallbringthemdownfromLebanonunto thesea:andIwillconveythembyseainfloatsuntothe placethatthoushaltappointme,andwillcausethemtobe dischargedthere,andthoushaltreceivethem:andthou shaltaccomplishmydesire,ingivingfoodformy household

10SoHiramgaveSolomoncedartreesandfirtrees accordingtoallhisdesire

11AndSolomongaveHiramtwentythousandmeasuresof wheatforfoodtohishousehold,andtwentymeasuresof pureoil:thusgaveSolomontoHiramyearbyyear

12AndtheLORDgaveSolomonwisdom,ashepromised him:andtherewaspeacebetweenHiramandSolomon; andtheytwomadealeaguetogether

13AndkingSolomonraisedalevyoutofallIsrael;and thelevywasthirtythousandmen.

14AndhesentthemtoLebanon,tenthousandamonthby courses:amonththeywereinLebanon,andtwomonthsat home:andAdoniramwasoverthelevy

15AndSolomonhadthreescoreandtenthousandthatbare burdens,andfourscorethousandhewersinthemountains;

16BesidethechiefofSolomon'sofficerswhichwereover thework,threethousandandthreehundred,whichruled overthepeoplethatwroughtinthework.

17Andthekingcommanded,andtheybroughtgreatstones, costlystones,andhewedstones,tolaythefoundationof thehouse.

18AndSolomon'sbuildersandHiram'sbuildersdidhew them,andthestonesquarers:sotheypreparedtimberand stonestobuildthehouse.

CHAPTER6

1Anditcametopassinthefourhundredandeightieth yearafterthechildrenofIsraelwerecomeoutoftheland ofEgypt,inthefourthyearofSolomon'sreignoverIsrael, inthemonthZif,whichisthesecondmonth,thathebegan tobuildthehouseoftheLORD

2AndthehousewhichkingSolomonbuiltfortheLORD, thelengththereofwasthreescorecubits,andthebreadth thereoftwentycubits,andtheheightthereofthirtycubits

3Andtheporchbeforethetempleofthehouse,twenty cubitswasthelengththereof,accordingtothebreadthof thehouse;andtencubitswasthebreadththereofbeforethe house.

4Andforthehousehemadewindowsofnarrowlights 5Andagainstthewallofthehousehebuiltchambers roundabout,againstthewallsofthehouseroundabout, bothofthetempleandoftheoracle:andhemade chambersroundabout:

6Thenethermostchamberwasfivecubitsbroad,andthe middlewassixcubitsbroad,andthethirdwassevencubits broad:forwithoutinthewallofthehousehemade narrowedrestsroundabout,thatthebeamsshouldnotbe fastenedinthewallsofthehouse

7Andthehouse,whenitwasinbuilding,wasbuiltof stonemadereadybeforeitwasbroughtthither:sothat therewasneitherhammernoraxenoranytoolofiron heardinthehouse,whileitwasinbuilding.

8Thedoorforthemiddlechamberwasintherightsideof thehouse:andtheywentupwithwindingstairsintothe middlechamber,andoutofthemiddleintothethird 9Sohebuiltthehouse,andfinishedit;andcoveredthe housewithbeamsandboardsofcedar

10Andthenhebuiltchambersagainstallthehouse,five cubitshigh:andtheyrestedonthehousewithtimberof cedar

11AndthewordoftheLORDcametoSolomon,saying, 12Concerningthishousewhichthouartinbuilding,if thouwiltwalkinmystatutes,andexecutemyjudgments, andkeepallmycommandmentstowalkinthem;thenwill Iperformmywordwiththee,whichIspakeuntoDavidthy father:

21SoSolomonoverlaidthehousewithinwithpuregold: andhemadeapartitionbythechainsofgoldbeforethe oracle;andheoverlaiditwithgold.

22Andthewholehouseheoverlaidwithgold,untilhehad finishedallthehouse:alsothewholealtarthatwasbythe oracleheoverlaidwithgold.

23Andwithintheoraclehemadetwocherubimsofolive tree,eachtencubitshigh

24Andfivecubitswastheonewingofthecherub,and fivecubitstheotherwingofthecherub:fromtheuttermost partoftheonewinguntotheuttermostpartoftheother weretencubits.

25Andtheothercherubwastencubits:boththecherubims wereofonemeasureandonesize

26Theheightoftheonecherubwastencubits,andsowas itoftheothercherub

27Andhesetthecherubimswithintheinnerhouse:and theystretchedforththewingsofthecherubims,sothatthe wingoftheonetouchedtheonewall,andthewingofthe othercherubtouchedtheotherwall;andtheirwings touchedoneanotherinthemidstofthehouse.

1ButSolomonwasbuildinghisownhousethirteenyears, andhefinishedallhishouse.

2HebuiltalsothehouseoftheforestofLebanon;the lengththereofwasanhundredcubits,andthebreadth thereoffiftycubits,andtheheightthereofthirtycubits, uponfourrowsofcedarpillars,withcedarbeamsuponthe pillars.

3Anditwascoveredwithcedaraboveuponthebeams, thatlayonfortyfivepillars,fifteeninarow

4Andtherewerewindowsinthreerows,andlightwas againstlightinthreeranks

5Andallthedoorsandpostsweresquare,withthe windows:andlightwasagainstlightinthreeranks.

6Andhemadeaporchofpillars;thelengththereofwas fiftycubits,andthebreadththereofthirtycubits:andthe porchwasbeforethem:andtheotherpillarsandthethick beamwerebeforethem

7Thenhemadeaporchforthethronewherehemight judge,eventheporchofjudgment:anditwascoveredwith cedarfromonesideofthefloortotheother

8Andhishousewherehedwelthadanothercourtwithin theporch,whichwasofthelikework.Solomonmadealso anhouseforPharaoh'sdaughter,whomhehadtakento wife,likeuntothisporch

9Allthesewereofcostlystones,accordingtothe measuresofhewedstones,sawedwithsaws,withinand without,evenfromthefoundationuntothecoping,andso ontheoutsidetowardthegreatcourt.

15Forhecasttwopillarsofbrass,ofeighteencubitshigh apiece:andalineoftwelvecubitsdidcompasseitherof themabout.

16Andhemadetwochapitersofmoltenbrass,tosetupon thetopsofthepillars:theheightoftheonechapiterwas fivecubits,andtheheightoftheotherchapiterwasfive cubits:

17Andnetsofcheckerwork,andwreathsofchainwork, forthechapiterswhichwereuponthetopofthepillars; sevenfortheonechapiter,andsevenfortheotherchapiter 18Andhemadethepillars,andtworowsroundabout upontheonenetwork,tocoverthechapitersthatwere uponthetop,withpomegranates:andsodidheforthe otherchapiter

19Andthechapitersthatwereuponthetopofthepillars wereoflilyworkintheporch,fourcubits

20Andthechapitersuponthetwopillarshad pomegranatesalsoabove,overagainstthebellywhichwas bythenetwork:andthepomegranatesweretwohundredin rowsroundaboutupontheotherchapiter

21Andhesetupthepillarsintheporchofthetemple:and hesetuptherightpillar,andcalledthenamethereofJachin: andhesetuptheleftpillar,andcalledthenamethereof Boaz

25Itstoodupontwelveoxen,threelookingtowardthe north,andthreelookingtowardthewest,andthreelooking towardthesouth,andthreelookingtowardtheeast:and theseawassetaboveuponthem,andalltheirhinderparts wereinward

26Anditwasanhandbreadththick,andthebrimthereof waswroughtlikethebrimofacup,withflowersoflilies:it containedtwothousandbaths

27Andhemadetenbasesofbrass;fourcubitswasthe lengthofonebase,andfourcubitsthebreadththereof,and threecubitstheheightofit

28Andtheworkofthebaseswasonthismanner:theyhad borders,andtheborderswerebetweentheledges:

29Andonthebordersthatwerebetweentheledgeswere lions,oxen,andcherubims:andupontheledgestherewas abaseabove:andbeneaththelionsandoxenwerecertain additionsmadeofthinwork

30Andeverybasehadfourbrasenwheels,andplatesof brass:andthefourcornersthereofhadundersetters:under thelaverwereundersettersmolten,atthesideofevery addition.

31Andthemouthofitwithinthechapiterandabovewasa cubit:butthemouththereofwasroundaftertheworkof thebase,acubitandanhalf:andalsouponthemouthofit weregravingswiththeirborders,foursquare,notround.

32Andundertheborderswerefourwheels;andthe axletreesofthewheelswerejoinedtothebase:andthe heightofawheelwasacubitandhalfacubit

33Andtheworkofthewheelswasliketheworkofa chariotwheel:theiraxletrees,andtheirnaves,andtheir felloes,andtheirspokes,wereallmolten

41Thetwopillars,andthetwobowlsofthechapitersthat wereonthetopofthetwopillars;andthetwonetworks,to coverthetwobowlsofthechapiterswhichwereuponthe topofthepillars;

42Andfourhundredpomegranatesforthetwonetworks, eventworowsofpomegranatesforonenetwork,tocover thetwobowlsofthechapitersthatwereuponthepillars; 43Andthetenbases,andtenlaversonthebases; 44Andonesea,andtwelveoxenunderthesea;

45Andthepots,andtheshovels,andthebasons:andall thesevessels,whichHirammadetokingSolomonforthe houseoftheLORD,wereofbrightbrass

46IntheplainofJordandidthekingcastthem,intheclay groundbetweenSuccothandZarthan.

47AndSolomonleftallthevesselsunweighed,because theywereexceedingmany:neitherwastheweightofthe brassfoundout.

48AndSolomonmadeallthevesselsthatpertainedunto thehouseoftheLORD:thealtarofgold,andthetableof gold,whereupontheshewbreadwas,

49Andthecandlesticksofpuregold,fiveontherightside, andfiveontheleft,beforetheoracle,withtheflowers,and thelamps,andthetongsofgold,

50Andthebowls,andthesnuffers,andthebasons,andthe spoons,andthecensersofpuregold;andthehingesof gold,bothforthedoorsoftheinnerhouse,themostholy place,andforthedoorsofthehouse,towit,ofthetemple 51SowasendedalltheworkthatkingSolomonmadefor thehouseoftheLORD.AndSolomonbroughtinthe thingswhichDavidhisfatherhaddedicated;eventhe silver,andthegold,andthevessels,didheputamongthe treasuresofthehouseoftheLORD.

CHAPTER8

1ThenSolomonassembledtheeldersofIsrael,andallthe headsofthetribes,thechiefofthefathersofthechildren ofIsrael,untokingSolomoninJerusalem,thattheymight bringupthearkofthecovenantoftheLORDoutofthe cityofDavid,whichisZion.

2AndallthemenofIsraelassembledthemselvesuntoking SolomonatthefeastinthemonthEthanim,whichisthe seventhmonth.

3AndalltheeldersofIsraelcame,andtheprieststookup theark

4AndtheybroughtupthearkoftheLORD,andthe tabernacleofthecongregation,andalltheholyvesselsthat wereinthetabernacle,eventhosedidthepriestsandthe Levitesbringup.

5AndkingSolomon,andallthecongregationofIsrael, thatwereassembleduntohim,werewithhimbeforethe ark,sacrificingsheepandoxen,thatcouldnotbetoldnor numberedformultitude

6Andthepriestsbroughtinthearkofthecovenantofthe LORDuntohisplace,intotheoracleofthehouse,tothe mostholyplace,evenunderthewingsofthecherubims

7Forthecherubimsspreadforththeirtwowingsoverthe placeoftheark,andthecherubimscoveredthearkandthe stavesthereofabove

8Andtheydrewoutthestaves,thattheendsofthestaves wereseenoutintheholyplacebeforetheoracle,andthey werenotseenwithout:andtheretheyareuntothisday.

9Therewasnothinginthearksavethetwotablesofstone, whichMosesputthereatHoreb,whentheLORDmadea covenantwiththechildrenofIsrael,whentheycameoutof thelandofEgypt

10Anditcametopass,whenthepriestswerecomeoutof theholyplace,thatthecloudfilledthehouseoftheLORD, 11Sothatthepriestscouldnotstandtoministerbecauseof thecloud:forthegloryoftheLORDhadfilledthehouse oftheLORD

12ThenspakeSolomon,TheLORDsaidthathewould dwellinthethickdarkness.

13Ihavesurelybuilttheeanhousetodwellin,asettled placefortheetoabideinforever

14Andthekingturnedhisfaceabout,andblessedallthe congregationofIsrael:(andallthecongregationofIsrael stood;)

15Andhesaid,BlessedbetheLORDGodofIsrael,which spakewithhismouthuntoDavidmyfather,andhathwith hishandfulfilledit,saying,

16SincethedaythatIbroughtforthmypeopleIsraelout ofEgypt,IchosenocityoutofallthetribesofIsraelto buildanhouse,thatmynamemightbetherein;butIchose DavidtobeovermypeopleIsrael.

17AnditwasintheheartofDavidmyfathertobuildan houseforthenameoftheLORDGodofIsrael

18AndtheLORDsaiduntoDavidmyfather,Whereasit wasinthinehearttobuildanhouseuntomyname,thou didstwellthatitwasinthineheart

19Neverthelessthoushaltnotbuildthehouse;butthyson thatshallcomeforthoutofthyloins,heshallbuildthe houseuntomyname.

20AndtheLORDhathperformedhiswordthathespake, andIamrisenupintheroomofDavidmyfather,andsit onthethroneofIsrael,astheLORDpromised,andhave builtanhouseforthenameoftheLORDGodofIsrael.

21AndIhavesetthereaplacefortheark,whereinisthe covenantoftheLORD,whichhemadewithourfathers, whenhebroughtthemoutofthelandofEgypt

22AndSolomonstoodbeforethealtaroftheLORDinthe presenceofallthecongregationofIsrael,andspreadforth hishandstowardheaven:

23Andhesaid,LORDGodofIsrael,thereisnoGodlike thee,inheavenabove,oronearthbeneath,whokeepest covenantandmercywiththyservantsthatwalkbeforethee withalltheirheart:

24WhohastkeptwiththyservantDavidmyfatherthat thoupromisedsthim:thouspakestalsowiththymouth,and hastfulfilleditwiththinehand,asitisthisday

25Thereforenow,LORDGodofIsrael,keepwiththy servantDavidmyfatherthatthoupromisedsthim,saying, Thereshallnotfailtheeamaninmysighttositonthe throneofIsrael;sothatthychildrentakeheedtotheirway, thattheywalkbeforemeasthouhastwalkedbeforeme

26Andnow,OGodofIsrael,letthyword,Ipraythee,be verified,whichthouspakestuntothyservantDavidmy father

27ButwillGodindeeddwellontheearth?behold,the heavenandheavenofheavenscannotcontainthee;how muchlessthishousethatIhavebuilded?

28Yethavethourespectuntotheprayerofthyservant, andtohissupplication,OLORDmyGod,tohearkenunto thecryandtotheprayer,whichthyservantprayethbefore theetoday:

29Thatthineeyesmaybeopentowardthishousenight andday,eventowardtheplaceofwhichthouhastsaid,My nameshallbethere:thatthoumayesthearkenuntothe prayerwhichthyservantshallmaketowardthisplace.

30Andhearkenthoutothesupplicationofthyservant,and ofthypeopleIsrael,whentheyshallpraytowardthisplace: andhearthouinheaventhydwellingplace:andwhenthou hearest,forgive

31Ifanymantrespassagainsthisneighbour,andanoath belaiduponhimtocausehimtoswear,andtheoathcome beforethinealtarinthishouse:

32Thenhearthouinheaven,anddo,andjudgethy servants,condemningthewicked,tobringhiswayupon hishead;andjustifyingtherighteous,togivehim accordingtohisrighteousness

33WhenthypeopleIsraelbesmittendownbeforethe enemy,becausetheyhavesinnedagainstthee,andshall turnagaintothee,andconfessthyname,andpray,and makesupplicationuntotheeinthishouse:

34Thenhearthouinheaven,andforgivethesinofthy peopleIsrael,andbringthemagainuntothelandwhich thougavestuntotheirfathers.

35Whenheavenisshutup,andthereisnorain,because theyhavesinnedagainstthee;iftheypraytowardthis place,andconfessthyname,andturnfromtheirsin,when thouafflictestthem:

36Thenhearthouinheaven,andforgivethesinofthy servants,andofthypeopleIsrael,thatthouteachthemthe goodwaywhereintheyshouldwalk,andgiverainupon thyland,whichthouhastgiventothypeopleforan inheritance.

37Iftherebeinthelandfamine,iftherebepestilence, blasting,mildew,locust,oriftherebecaterpiller;iftheir enemybesiegetheminthelandoftheircities;whatsoever plague,whatsoeversicknesstherebe;

38Whatprayerandsupplicationsoeverbemadebyany man,orbyallthypeopleIsrael,whichshallknowevery mantheplagueofhisownheart,andspreadforthhishands towardthishouse:

39Thenhearthouinheaventhydwellingplace,and forgive,anddo,andgivetoeverymanaccordingtohis ways,whoseheartthouknowest;(forthou,eventhouonly, knowesttheheartsofallthechildrenofmen;)

40Thattheymayfeartheeallthedaysthattheyliveinthe landwhichthougavestuntoourfathers.

41Moreoverconcerningastranger,thatisnotofthy peopleIsrael,butcomethoutofafarcountryforthy name'ssake;

42(Fortheyshallhearofthygreatname,andofthystrong hand,andofthystretchedoutarm;)whenheshallcome andpraytowardthishouse;

43Hearthouinheaventhydwellingplace,anddo accordingtoallthatthestrangercallethtotheefor:thatall

peopleoftheearthmayknowthyname,tofearthee,asdo thypeopleIsrael;andthattheymayknowthatthishouse, whichIhavebuilded,iscalledbythyname

44Ifthypeoplegoouttobattleagainsttheirenemy, whithersoeverthoushaltsendthem,andshallprayuntothe LORDtowardthecitywhichthouhastchosen,andtoward thehousethatIhavebuiltforthyname:

45Thenhearthouinheaventheirprayerandtheir supplication,andmaintaintheircause.

46Iftheysinagainstthee,(forthereisnomanthatsinneth not,)andthoubeangrywiththem,anddeliverthemtothe enemy,sothattheycarrythemawaycaptivesuntotheland oftheenemy,farornear;

49Thenhearthoutheirprayerandtheirsupplicationin heaventhydwellingplace,andmaintaintheircause,

50Andforgivethypeoplethathavesinnedagainstthee, andalltheirtransgressionswhereintheyhavetransgressed againstthee,andgivethemcompassionbeforethemwho carriedthemcaptive,thattheymayhavecompassionon them:

51Fortheybethypeople,andthineinheritance,which thoubroughtestforthoutofEgypt,fromthemidstofthe furnaceofiron:

52Thatthineeyesmaybeopenuntothesupplicationof thyservant,anduntothesupplicationofthypeopleIsrael, tohearkenuntotheminallthattheycallforuntothee

53Forthoudidstseparatethemfromamongallthepeople oftheearth,tobethineinheritance,asthouspakestbythe handofMosesthyservant,whenthoubroughtestour fathersoutofEgypt,OLordGOD.

54Anditwasso,thatwhenSolomonhadmadeanendof prayingallthisprayerandsupplicationuntotheLORD,he arosefrombeforethealtaroftheLORD,fromkneelingon hiskneeswithhishandsspreaduptoheaven.

55Andhestood,andblessedallthecongregationofIsrael withaloudvoice,saying,

56BlessedbetheLORD,thathathgivenrestuntohis peopleIsrael,accordingtoallthathepromised:therehath notfailedonewordofallhisgoodpromise,whichhe promisedbythehandofMoseshisservant

57TheLORDourGodbewithus,ashewaswithour fathers:lethimnotleaveus,norforsakeus:

59Andletthesemywords,wherewithIhavemade supplicationbeforetheLORD,benighuntotheLORDour Goddayandnight,thathemaintainthecauseofhis servant,andthecauseofhispeopleIsraelatalltimes,as themattershallrequire:

60Thatallthepeopleoftheearthmayknowthatthe LORDisGod,andthatthereisnoneelse

61LetyourheartthereforebeperfectwiththeLORDour God,towalkinhisstatutes,andtokeephis commandments,asatthisday

62Andtheking,andallIsraelwithhim,offeredsacrifice beforetheLORD.

63AndSolomonofferedasacrificeofpeaceofferings, whichheoffereduntotheLORD,twoandtwentythousand oxen,andanhundredandtwentythousandsheep.Sothe kingandallthechildrenofIsraeldedicatedthehouseof theLORD

64Thesamedaydidthekinghallowthemiddleofthe courtthatwasbeforethehouseoftheLORD:fortherehe offeredburntofferings,andmeatofferings,andthefatof thepeaceofferings:becausethebrasenaltarthatwas beforetheLORDwastoolittletoreceivetheburnt offerings,andmeatofferings,andthefatofthepeace offerings.

1Anditcametopass,whenSolomonhadfinishedthe buildingofthehouseoftheLORD,andtheking'shouse, andallSolomon'sdesirewhichhewaspleasedtodo, 2ThattheLORDappearedtoSolomonthesecondtime,as hehadappeareduntohimatGibeon

3AndtheLORDsaiduntohim,Ihaveheardthyprayer andthysupplication,thatthouhastmadebeforeme:Ihave hallowedthishouse,whichthouhastbuilt,toputmyname thereforever;andmineeyesandmineheartshallbethere perpetually.

4Andifthouwiltwalkbeforeme,asDavidthyfather walked,inintegrityofheart,andinuprightness,todo accordingtoallthatIhavecommandedthee,andwiltkeep mystatutesandmyjudgments:

5ThenIwillestablishthethroneofthykingdomupon Israelforever,asIpromisedtoDavidthyfather,saying, ThereshallnotfailtheeamanuponthethroneofIsrael 6Butifyeshallatallturnfromfollowingme,yeoryour children,andwillnotkeepmycommandmentsandmy statuteswhichIhavesetbeforeyou,butgoandserveother gods,andworshipthem:

7ThenwillIcutoffIsraeloutofthelandwhichIhave giventhem;andthishouse,whichIhavehallowedformy name,willIcastoutofmysight;andIsraelshallbea proverbandabywordamongallpeople:

8Andatthishouse,whichishigh,everyonethatpasseth byitshallbeastonished,andshallhiss;andtheyshallsay, WhyhaththeLORDdonethusuntothisland,andtothis house?

9Andtheyshallanswer,BecausetheyforsooktheLORD theirGod,whobroughtforththeirfathersoutofthelandof Egypt,andhavetakenholduponothergods,andhave worshippedthem,andservedthem:thereforehaththe LORDbroughtuponthemallthisevil

10Anditcametopassattheendoftwentyyears,when Solomonhadbuiltthetwohouses,thehouseoftheLORD, andtheking'shouse,

11(NowHiramthekingofTyrehadfurnishedSolomon withcedartreesandfirtrees,andwithgold,accordingto allhisdesire,)thatthenkingSolomongaveHiramtwenty citiesinthelandofGalilee

12AndHiramcameoutfromTyretoseethecitieswhich Solomonhadgivenhim;andtheypleasedhimnot.

13Andhesaid,Whatcitiesarethesewhichthouhastgiven me,mybrother?AndhecalledthemthelandofCabulunto thisday

12NotwithstandinginthydaysIwillnotdoitforDavid thyfather'ssake:butIwillrenditoutofthehandofthy son

13HowbeitIwillnotrendawayallthekingdom;butwill giveonetribetothysonforDavidmyservant'ssake,and forJerusalem'ssakewhichIhavechosen

14AndtheLORDstirredupanadversaryuntoSolomon, HadadtheEdomite:hewasoftheking'sseedinEdom.

15Foritcametopass,whenDavidwasinEdom,andJoab thecaptainofthehostwasgoneuptoburytheslain,after hehadsmitteneverymaleinEdom;

3ThattheysentandcalledhimAndJeroboamandallthe congregationofIsraelcame,andspakeuntoRehoboam, saying,

4Thyfathermadeouryokegrievous:nowthereforemake thouthegrievousserviceofthyfather,andhisheavyyoke whichheputuponus,lighter,andwewillservethee 5Andhesaiduntothem,Departyetforthreedays,then comeagaintome.Andthepeopledeparted.

6AndkingRehoboamconsultedwiththeoldmen,that stoodbeforeSolomonhisfatherwhileheyetlived,and said,HowdoyeadvisethatImayanswerthispeople?

17ButasforthechildrenofIsraelwhichdweltinthecities ofJudah,Rehoboamreignedoverthem.

7AndthekingsaiduntothemanofGod,Comehomewith me,andrefreshthyself,andIwillgivetheeareward.

13Andhesaiduntohissons,SaddlemetheassSothey saddledhimtheass:andherodethereon,

14AndwentafterthemanofGod,andfoundhimsitting underanoak:andhesaiduntohim,Artthouthemanof GodthatcamestfromJudah?Andhesaid,Iam.

33AfterthisthingJeroboamreturnednotfromhisevilway, butmadeagainofthelowestofthepeoplepriestsofthe highplaces:whosoeverwould,heconsecratedhim,andhe becameoneofthepriestsofthehighplaces.

1AtthattimeAbijahthesonofJeroboamfellsick

2AndJeroboamsaidtohiswife,Arise,Ipraythee,and disguisethyself,thatthoubenotknowntobethewifeof Jeroboam;andgettheetoShiloh:behold,thereisAhijah theprophet,whichtoldmethatIshouldbekingoverthis people.

3Andtakewiththeetenloaves,andcracknels,andacruse ofhoney,andgotohim:heshalltelltheewhatshall becomeofthechild.

4AndJeroboam'swifedidso,andarose,andwentto Shiloh,andcametothehouseofAhijahButAhijahcould notsee;forhiseyesweresetbyreasonofhisage.

5AndtheLORDsaiduntoAhijah,Behold,thewifeof Jeroboamcomethtoaskathingoftheeforherson;forhe issick:thusandthusshaltthousayuntoher:foritshallbe, whenshecomethin,thatsheshallfeignherselftobe anotherwoman.

9Buthastdoneevilaboveallthatwerebeforethee:for thouhastgoneandmadetheeothergods,andmolten images,toprovokemetoanger,andhastcastmebehind thyback:

10Therefore,behold,Iwillbringeviluponthehouseof Jeroboam,andwillcutofffromJeroboamhimthatpisseth againstthewall,andhimthatisshutupandleftinIsrael, andwilltakeawaytheremnantofthehouseofJeroboam, asamantakethawaydung,tillitbeallgone.

11HimthatdiethofJeroboaminthecityshallthedogseat; andhimthatdiethinthefieldshallthefowlsoftheaireat: fortheLORDhathspokenit

12Arisethoutherefore,gettheetothineownhouse:and whenthyfeetenterintothecity,thechildshalldie.

13AndallIsraelshallmournforhim,andburyhim:forhe onlyofJeroboamshallcometothegrave,becauseinhim thereisfoundsomegoodthingtowardtheLORDGodof IsraelinthehouseofJeroboam.

14MoreovertheLORDshallraisehimupakingover Israel,whoshallcutoffthehouseofJeroboamthatday: butwhat?evennow

15FortheLORDshallsmiteIsrael,asareedisshakenin thewater,andheshallrootupIsraeloutofthisgoodland, whichhegavetotheirfathers,andshallscatterthem beyondtheriver,becausetheyhavemadetheirgroves, provokingtheLORDtoanger.

16AndheshallgiveIsraelupbecauseofthesinsof Jeroboam,whodidsin,andwhomadeIsraeltosin

17AndJeroboam'swifearose,anddeparted,andcameto Tirzah:andwhenshecametothethresholdofthedoor,the childdied;

18Andtheyburiedhim;andallIsraelmournedforhim, accordingtothewordoftheLORD,whichhespakebythe handofhisservantAhijahtheprophet

3Andhewalkedinallthesinsofhisfather,whichhehad donebeforehim:andhisheartwasnotperfectwiththe LORDhisGod,astheheartofDavidhisfather.

4NeverthelessforDavid'ssakedidtheLORDhisGod givehimalampinJerusalem,tosetuphissonafterhim, andtoestablishJerusalem:

32Anditcametopass,whenthecaptainsofthechariots sawJehoshaphat,thattheysaid,Surelyitisthekingof IsraelAndtheyturnedasidetofightagainsthim:and Jehoshaphatcriedout.

33Anditcametopass,whenthecaptainsofthechariots perceivedthatitwasnotthekingofIsrael,thattheyturned backfrompursuinghim.
