3ButtheangeloftheLORDsaidtoElijahtheTishbite, Arise,gouptomeetthemessengersofthekingofSamaria, andsayuntothem,IsitnotbecausethereisnotaGodin Israel,thatyegotoenquireofBaalzebubthegodofEkron?

4NowthereforethussaiththeLORD,Thoushaltnotcome downfromthatbedonwhichthouartgoneup,butshalt surelydieAndElijahdeparted

5Andwhenthemessengersturnedbackuntohim,hesaid untothem,Whyareyenowturnedback?

6Andtheysaiduntohim,Therecameamanuptomeetus, andsaiduntous,Go,turnagainuntothekingthatsentyou, andsayuntohim,ThussaiththeLORD,Isitnotbecause thereisnotaGodinIsrael,thatthousendesttoenquireof BaalzebubthegodofEkron?thereforethoushaltnotcome downfromthatbedonwhichthouartgoneup,butshalt surelydie

7Andhesaiduntothem,Whatmannerofmanwashe whichcameuptomeetyou,andtoldyouthesewords?

8Andtheyansweredhim,Hewasanhairyman,andgirt withagirdleofleatherabouthisloinsAndhesaid,Itis ElijahtheTishbite.

9Thenthekingsentuntohimacaptainoffiftywithhis fiftyAndhewentuptohim:and,behold,hesatonthetop ofanhill.Andhespakeuntohim,ThoumanofGod,the kinghathsaid,Comedown

10AndElijahansweredandsaidtothecaptainoffifty,IfI beamanofGod,thenletfirecomedownfromheaven,and consumetheeandthyfiftyAndtherecamedownfirefrom heaven,andconsumedhimandhisfifty.

11Againalsohesentuntohimanothercaptainoffifty withhisfiftyAndheansweredandsaiduntohim,Oman ofGod,thushaththekingsaid,Comedownquickly

12AndElijahansweredandsaiduntothem,IfIbeaman ofGod,letfirecomedownfromheaven,andconsumethee andthyfifty.AndthefireofGodcamedownfromheaven, andconsumedhimandhisfifty

13Andhesentagainacaptainofthethirdfiftywithhis fifty.Andthethirdcaptainoffiftywentup,andcameand fellonhiskneesbeforeElijah,andbesoughthim,andsaid untohim,OmanofGod,Ipraythee,letmylife,andthe lifeofthesefiftythyservants,bepreciousinthysight.

14Behold,therecamefiredownfromheaven,andburnt upthetwocaptainsoftheformerfiftieswiththeirfifties: thereforeletmylifenowbepreciousinthysight.

15AndtheangeloftheLORDsaiduntoElijah,Godown withhim:benotafraidofhimAndhearose,andwent downwithhimuntotheking.

16Andhesaiduntohim,ThussaiththeLORD,Forasmuch asthouhastsentmessengerstoenquireofBaalzebubthe godofEkron,isitnotbecausethereisnoGodinIsraelto enquireofhisword?thereforethoushaltnotcomedown offthatbedonwhichthouartgoneup,butshaltsurelydie

17SohediedaccordingtothewordoftheLORDwhich ElijahhadspokenAndJehoramreignedinhissteadinthe secondyearofJehoramthesonofJehoshaphatkingof Judah;becausehehadnoson

18NowtherestoftheactsofAhaziahwhichhedid,are theynotwritteninthebookofthechroniclesofthekings ofIsrael?

CHAPTER2

1Anditcametopass,whentheLORDwouldtakeup Elijahintoheavenbyawhirlwind,thatElijahwentwith ElishafromGilgal

2AndElijahsaiduntoElisha,Tarryhere,Ipraythee;for theLORDhathsentmetoBethel.AndElishasaidunto him,AstheLORDliveth,andasthysoulliveth,Iwillnot leavetheeSotheywentdowntoBethel

3AndthesonsoftheprophetsthatwereatBethelcame forthtoElisha,andsaiduntohim,Knowestthouthatthe LORDwilltakeawaythymasterfromthyheadtoday? Andhesaid,Yea,Iknowit;holdyeyourpeace.

4AndElijahsaiduntohim,Elisha,tarryhere,Ipraythee; fortheLORDhathsentmetoJericho.Andhesaid,Asthe LORDliveth,andasthysoulliveth,Iwillnotleavethee. SotheycametoJericho

5AndthesonsoftheprophetsthatwereatJerichocameto Elisha,andsaiduntohim,KnowestthouthattheLORD willtakeawaythymasterfromthyheadtoday?Andhe answered,Yea,Iknowit;holdyeyourpeace

6AndElijahsaiduntohim,Tarry,Ipraythee,here;forthe LORDhathsentmetoJordanAndhesaid,AstheLORD liveth,andasthysoulliveth,Iwillnotleavethee.And theytwowenton

7Andfiftymenofthesonsoftheprophetswent,andstood toviewafaroff:andtheytwostoodbyJordan.

8AndElijahtookhismantle,andwrappedittogether,and smotethewaters,andtheyweredividedhitherandthither, sothattheytwowentoverondryground.

9Anditcametopass,whentheyweregoneover,that ElijahsaiduntoElisha,AskwhatIshalldoforthee,before Ibetakenawayfromthee.AndElishasaid,Ipraythee,let adoubleportionofthyspiritbeuponme

10Andhesaid,Thouhastaskedahardthing:nevertheless, ifthouseemewhenIamtakenfromthee,itshallbeso untothee;butifnot,itshallnotbeso

11Anditcametopass,astheystillwenton,andtalked, that,behold,thereappearedachariotoffire,andhorsesof fire,andpartedthembothasunder;andElijahwentupbya whirlwindintoheaven

12AndElishasawit,andhecried,Myfather,myfather, thechariotofIsrael,andthehorsementhereofAndhesaw himnomore:andhetookholdofhisownclothes,andrent themintwopieces.

13HetookupalsothemantleofElijahthatfellfromhim, andwentback,andstoodbythebankofJordan;

14AndhetookthemantleofElijahthatfellfromhim,and smotethewaters,andsaid,WhereistheLORDGodof Elijah?andwhenhealsohadsmittenthewaters,they partedhitherandthither:andElishawentover.

15Andwhenthesonsoftheprophetswhichweretoview atJerichosawhim,theysaid,ThespiritofElijahdothrest onElisha.Andtheycametomeethim,andbowed themselvestothegroundbeforehim

16Andtheysaiduntohim,Beholdnow,therebewiththy servantsfiftystrongmen;letthemgo,wepraythee,and seekthymaster:lestperadventuretheSpiritoftheLORD hathtakenhimup,andcasthimuponsomemountain,or intosomevalley.Andhesaid,Yeshallnotsend.

17Andwhentheyurgedhimtillhewasashamed,hesaid, SendTheysentthereforefiftymen;andtheysoughtthree days,butfoundhimnot.

18Andwhentheycameagaintohim,(forhetarriedat Jericho,)hesaiduntothem,DidInotsayuntoyou,Gonot?

19AndthemenofthecitysaiduntoElisha,Behold,Ipray thee,thesituationofthiscityispleasant,asmylordseeth: butthewaterisnaught,andthegroundbarren

20Andhesaid,Bringmeanewcruse,andputsalttherein. Andtheybroughtittohim

21Andhewentforthuntothespringofthewaters,and castthesaltinthere,andsaid,ThussaiththeLORD,Ihave healedthesewaters;thereshallnotbefromthenceany moredeathorbarrenland

22Sothewaterswerehealeduntothisday,accordingto thesayingofElishawhichhespake

23AndhewentupfromthenceuntoBethel:andashewas goingupbytheway,therecameforthlittlechildrenoutof thecity,andmockedhim,andsaiduntohim,Goup,thou baldhead;goup,thoubaldhead

24Andheturnedback,andlookedonthem,andcursed theminthenameoftheLORDAndtherecameforthtwo shebearsoutofthewood,andtarefortyandtwochildren ofthem.

25AndhewentfromthencetomountCarmel,andfrom thencehereturnedtoSamaria

CHAPTER3

1NowJehoramthesonofAhabbegantoreignoverIsrael inSamariatheeighteenthyearofJehoshaphatkingof Judah,andreignedtwelveyears

2AndhewroughtevilinthesightoftheLORD;butnot likehisfather,andlikehismother:forheputawaythe imageofBaalthathisfatherhadmade.

3NeverthelesshecleaveduntothesinsofJeroboamthe sonofNebat,whichmadeIsraeltosin;hedepartednot therefrom.

4AndMeshakingofMoabwasasheepmaster,and rendereduntothekingofIsraelanhundredthousandlambs, andanhundredthousandrams,withthewool

5Butitcametopass,whenAhabwasdead,thattheking ofMoabrebelledagainstthekingofIsrael

6AndkingJehoramwentoutofSamariathesametime, andnumberedallIsrael

7AndhewentandsenttoJehoshaphatthekingofJudah, saying,ThekingofMoabhathrebelledagainstme:wilt thougowithmeagainstMoabtobattle?Andhesaid,Iwill goup:Iamasthouart,mypeopleasthypeople,andmy horsesasthyhorses.

8Andhesaid,Whichwayshallwegoup?Andhe answered,ThewaythroughthewildernessofEdom

9SothekingofIsraelwent,andthekingofJudah,andthe kingofEdom:andtheyfetchedacompassofsevendays' journey:andtherewasnowaterforthehost,andforthe cattlethatfollowedthem.

10AndthekingofIsraelsaid,Alas!thattheLORDhath calledthesethreekingstogether,todeliverthemintothe handofMoab!

11ButJehoshaphatsaid,Istherenothereaprophetofthe LORD,thatwemayenquireoftheLORDbyhim?And oneofthekingofIsrael'sservantsansweredandsaid,Here isElishathesonofShaphat,whichpouredwateronthe handsofElijah.

12AndJehoshaphatsaid,ThewordoftheLORDiswith himSothekingofIsraelandJehoshaphatandthekingof Edomwentdowntohim.

13AndElishasaiduntothekingofIsrael,WhathaveIto dowiththee?gettheetotheprophetsofthyfather,andto theprophetsofthymother.AndthekingofIsraelsaidunto him,Nay:fortheLORDhathcalledthesethreekings together,todeliverthemintothehandofMoab

14AndElishasaid,AstheLORDofhostsliveth,before whomIstand,surely,wereitnotthatIregardthepresence ofJehoshaphatthekingofJudah,Iwouldnotlooktoward thee,norseethee.

15ButnowbringmeaminstrelAnditcametopass,when theminstrelplayed,thatthehandoftheLORDcameupon him.

16Andhesaid,ThussaiththeLORD,Makethisvalley fullofditches

17ForthussaiththeLORD,Yeshallnotseewind,neither shallyeseerain;yetthatvalleyshallbefilledwithwater, thatyemaydrink,bothye,andyourcattle,andyourbeasts 18AndthisisbutalightthinginthesightoftheLORD:he willdelivertheMoabitesalsointoyourhand

19Andyeshallsmiteeveryfencedcity,andeverychoice city,andshallfelleverygoodtree,andstopallwellsof water,andmareverygoodpieceoflandwithstones 20Anditcametopassinthemorning,whenthemeat offeringwasoffered,that,behold,therecamewaterbythe wayofEdom,andthecountrywasfilledwithwater 21AndwhenalltheMoabitesheardthatthekingswere comeuptofightagainstthem,theygatheredallthatwere abletoputonarmour,andupward,andstoodintheborder 22Andtheyroseupearlyinthemorning,andthesun shoneuponthewater,andtheMoabitessawthewateron theothersideasredasblood:

23Andtheysaid,Thisisblood:thekingsaresurelyslain, andtheyhavesmittenoneanother:nowtherefore,Moab, tothespoil

24AndwhentheycametothecampofIsrael,theIsraelites roseupandsmotetheMoabites,sothattheyfledbefore them:buttheywentforwardsmitingtheMoabites,evenin theircountry.

25Andtheybeatdownthecities,andoneverygoodpiece oflandcasteverymanhisstone,andfilledit;andthey stoppedallthewellsofwater,andfelledallthegoodtrees: onlyinKirharasethlefttheythestonesthereof;howbeitthe slingerswentaboutit,andsmoteit

26AndwhenthekingofMoabsawthatthebattlewastoo soreforhim,hetookwithhimsevenhundredmenthat drewswords,tobreakthroughevenuntothekingofEdom: buttheycouldnot.

27Thenhetookhiseldestsonthatshouldhavereignedin hisstead,andofferedhimforaburntofferinguponthe wall.AndtherewasgreatindignationagainstIsrael:and theydepartedfromhim,andreturnedtotheirownland

1Nowtherecriedacertainwomanofthewivesofthesons oftheprophetsuntoElisha,saying,Thyservantmy husbandisdead;andthouknowestthatthyservantdidfear theLORD:andthecreditoriscometotakeuntohimmy twosonstobebondmen

2AndElishasaiduntoher,WhatshallIdoforthee?tell me,whathastthouinthehouse?Andshesaid,Thine handmaidhathnotanythinginthehouse,saveapotofoil 3Thenhesaid,Go,borrowtheevesselsabroadofallthy neighbours,evenemptyvessels;borrownotafew 4Andwhenthouartcomein,thoushaltshutthedoorupon theeanduponthysons,andshaltpouroutintoallthose vessels,andthoushaltsetasidethatwhichisfull 5Soshewentfromhim,andshutthedooruponherand uponhersons,whobroughtthevesselstoher;andshe pouredout

6Anditcametopass,whenthevesselswerefull,thatshe saiduntoherson,Bringmeyetavessel.Andhesaidunto her,ThereisnotavesselmoreAndtheoilstayed

7ThenshecameandtoldthemanofGodAndhesaid,Go, selltheoil,andpaythydebt,andlivethouandthychildren oftherest

8Anditfellonaday,thatElishapassedtoShunem,where wasagreatwoman;andsheconstrainedhimtoeatbread. Andsoitwas,thatasoftashepassedby,heturnedin thithertoeatbread

9Andshesaiduntoherhusband,Beholdnow,Iperceive thatthisisanholymanofGod,whichpassethbyus continually

10Letusmakealittlechamber,Ipraythee,onthewall; andletussetforhimthereabed,andatable,andastool, andacandlestick:anditshallbe,whenhecomethtous, thatheshallturninthither.

11Anditfellonaday,thathecamethither,andheturned intothechamber,andlaythere

12AndhesaidtoGehazihisservant,CallthisShunammite. Andwhenhehadcalledher,shestoodbeforehim

13Andhesaiduntohim,Saynowuntoher,Behold,thou hastbeencarefulforuswithallthiscare;whatistobe doneforthee?wouldestthoubespokenfortotheking,or tothecaptainofthehost?Andsheanswered,Idwell amongmineownpeople.

14Andhesaid,Whatthenistobedoneforher?And Gehazianswered,Verilyshehathnochild,andher husbandisold

15Andhesaid,CallherAndwhenhehadcalledher,she stoodinthedoor.

16Andhesaid,Aboutthisseason,accordingtothetimeof life,thoushaltembraceasonAndshesaid,Nay,mylord, thoumanofGod,donotlieuntothinehandmaid.

17Andthewomanconceived,andbareasonatthatseason thatElishahadsaiduntoher,accordingtothetimeoflife

18Andwhenthechildwasgrown,itfellonaday,thathe wentouttohisfathertothereapers

19Andhesaiduntohisfather,Myhead,myheadAndhe saidtoalad,Carryhimtohismother.

20Andwhenhehadtakenhim,andbroughthimtohis mother,hesatonherkneestillnoon,andthendied 21Andshewentup,andlaidhimonthebedofthemanof God,andshutthedooruponhim,andwentout

22Andshecalleduntoherhusband,andsaid,Sendme,I praythee,oneoftheyoungmen,andoneoftheasses,that ImayruntothemanofGod,andcomeagain

23Andhesaid,Whereforewiltthougotohimtoday?itis neithernewmoon,norsabbath.Andshesaid,Itshallbe well

24Thenshesaddledanass,andsaidtoherservant,Drive, andgoforward;slacknotthyridingforme,exceptIbid thee.

25SoshewentandcameuntothemanofGodtomount Carmel.Anditcametopass,whenthemanofGodsawher afaroff,thathesaidtoGehazihisservant,Behold,yonder isthatShunammite:

26Runnow,Ipraythee,tomeether,andsayuntoher,Isit wellwiththee?isitwellwiththyhusband?isitwellwith thechild?Andsheanswered,Itiswell

27AndwhenshecametothemanofGodtothehill,she caughthimbythefeet:butGehazicameneartothrusther awayAndthemanofGodsaid,Letheralone;forhersoul isvexedwithinher:andtheLORDhathhiditfromme, andhathnottoldme

28Thenshesaid,DidIdesireasonofmylord?didInot say,Donotdeceiveme?

29ThenhesaidtoGehazi,Girdupthyloins,andtakemy staffinthinehand,andgothyway:ifthoumeetanyman, salutehimnot;andifanysalutethee,answerhimnotagain: andlaymystaffuponthefaceofthechild

30Andthemotherofthechildsaid,AstheLORDliveth, andasthysoulliveth,Iwillnotleavethee.Andhearose, andfollowedher

31AndGehazipassedonbeforethem,andlaidthestaff uponthefaceofthechild;buttherewasneithervoice,nor hearingWhereforehewentagaintomeethim,andtold him,saying,Thechildisnotawaked

32AndwhenElishawascomeintothehouse,behold,the childwasdead,andlaiduponhisbed

33Hewentintherefore,andshutthedooruponthemtwain, andprayeduntotheLORD.

34Andhewentup,andlayuponthechild,andputhis mouthuponhismouth,andhiseyesuponhiseyes,andhis handsuponhishands:andhestretchedhimselfuponthe child;andthefleshofthechildwaxedwarm

35Thenhereturned,andwalkedinthehousetoandfro; andwentup,andstretchedhimselfuponhim:andthechild sneezedseventimes,andthechildopenedhiseyes

36AndhecalledGehazi,andsaid,CallthisShunammite SohecalledherAndwhenshewascomeinuntohim,he said,Takeupthyson

37Thenshewentin,andfellathisfeet,andbowedherself totheground,andtookupherson,andwentout

38AndElishacameagaintoGilgal:andtherewasadearth intheland;andthesonsoftheprophetsweresittingbefore him:andhesaiduntohisservant,Setonthegreatpot,and seethepottageforthesonsoftheprophets

39Andonewentoutintothefieldtogatherherbs,and foundawildvine,andgatheredthereofwildgourdshislap full,andcameandshredthemintothepotofpottage:for theyknewthemnot.

40SotheypouredoutforthementoeatAnditcameto pass,astheywereeatingofthepottage,thattheycriedout, andsaid,OthoumanofGod,thereisdeathinthepot.And theycouldnoteatthereof

41Buthesaid,ThenbringmealAndhecastitintothepot; andhesaid,Pouroutforthepeople,thattheymayeatAnd therewasnoharminthepot

42AndtherecameamanfromBaalshalisha,andbrought themanofGodbreadofthefirstfruits,twentyloavesof barley,andfullearsofcorninthehuskthereofAndhe said,Giveuntothepeople,thattheymayeat

43Andhisservitorsaid,What,shouldIsetthisbeforean hundredmen?Hesaidagain,Givethepeople,thatthey mayeat:forthussaiththeLORD,Theyshalleat,andshall leavethereof.

44Sohesetitbeforethem,andtheydideat,andleft thereof,accordingtothewordoftheLORD

CHAPTER5

1NowNaaman,captainofthehostofthekingofSyria, wasagreatmanwithhismaster,andhonourable,because byhimtheLORDhadgivendeliveranceuntoSyria:he wasalsoamightymaninvalour,buthewasaleper.

2AndtheSyrianshadgoneoutbycompanies,andhad broughtawaycaptiveoutofthelandofIsraelalittlemaid; andshewaitedonNaaman'swife.

3Andshesaiduntohermistress,WouldGodmylordwere withtheprophetthatisinSamaria!forhewouldrecover himofhisleprosy.

4Andonewentin,andtoldhislord,saying,Thusandthus saidthemaidthatisofthelandofIsrael

5AndthekingofSyriasaid,Goto,go,andIwillsenda letteruntothekingofIsraelAndhedeparted,andtook withhimtentalentsofsilver,andsixthousandpiecesof gold,andtenchangesofraiment.

6AndhebroughtthelettertothekingofIsrael,saying, Nowwhenthisletteriscomeuntothee,behold,Ihave therewithsentNaamanmyservanttothee,thatthou mayestrecoverhimofhisleprosy

7Anditcametopass,whenthekingofIsraelhadreadthe letter,thatherenthisclothes,andsaid,AmIGod,tokill andtomakealive,thatthismandothsenduntometo recoveramanofhisleprosy?whereforeconsider,Ipray you,andseehowheseekethaquarrelagainstme.

8Anditwasso,whenElishathemanofGodhadheard thatthekingofIsraelhadrenthisclothes,thathesentto theking,saying,Whereforehastthourentthyclothes?let himcomenowtome,andheshallknowthatthereisa prophetinIsrael

9SoNaamancamewithhishorsesandwithhischariot, andstoodatthedoorofthehouseofElisha

10AndElishasentamessengeruntohim,saying,Goand washinJordanseventimes,andthyfleshshallcomeagain tothee,andthoushaltbeclean

11ButNaamanwaswroth,andwentaway,andsaid, Behold,Ithought,Hewillsurelycomeouttome,and stand,andcallonthenameoftheLORDhisGod,and strikehishandovertheplace,andrecovertheleper.

12ArenotAbanaandPharpar,riversofDamascus,better thanallthewatersofIsrael?mayInotwashinthem,and beclean?Soheturnedandwentawayinarage.

13Andhisservantscamenear,andspakeuntohim,and said,Myfather,iftheprophethadbidtheedosomegreat thing,wouldestthounothavedoneit?howmuchrather then,whenhesaithtothee,Wash,andbeclean?

14Thenwenthedown,anddippedhimselfseventimesin Jordan,accordingtothesayingofthemanofGod:andhis fleshcameagainlikeuntothefleshofalittlechild,andhe wasclean

15AndhereturnedtothemanofGod,heandallhis company,andcame,andstoodbeforehim:andhesaid, Behold,nowIknowthatthereisnoGodinalltheearth, butinIsrael:nowtherefore,Ipraythee,takeablessingof thyservant.

16Buthesaid,AstheLORDliveth,beforewhomIstand, Iwillreceivenone.Andheurgedhimtotakeit;buthe refused

17AndNaamansaid,Shalltherenotthen,Ipraythee,be giventothyservanttwomules'burdenofearth?forthy servantwillhenceforthofferneitherburntofferingnor sacrificeuntoothergods,butuntotheLORD

18InthisthingtheLORDpardonthyservant,thatwhen mymastergoethintothehouseofRimmontoworship there,andheleanethonmyhand,andIbowmyselfinthe houseofRimmon:whenIbowdownmyselfinthehouse ofRimmon,theLORDpardonthyservantinthisthing 19Andhesaiduntohim,GoinpeaceSohedepartedfrom himalittleway.

20ButGehazi,theservantofElishathemanofGod,said, Behold,mymasterhathsparedNaamanthisSyrian,innot receivingathishandsthatwhichhebrought:but,asthe LORDliveth,Iwillrunafterhim,andtakesomewhatof him

21SoGehazifollowedafterNaaman.AndwhenNaaman sawhimrunningafterhim,helighteddownfromthe chariottomeethim,andsaid,Isallwell?

22Andhesaid,Alliswell.Mymasterhathsentme, saying,Behold,evennowtherebecometomefrommount Ephraimtwoyoungmenofthesonsoftheprophets:give them,Ipraythee,atalentofsilver,andtwochangesof garments

23AndNaamansaid,Becontent,taketwotalentsAndhe urgedhim,andboundtwotalentsofsilverintwobags, withtwochangesofgarments,andlaidthemupontwoof hisservants;andtheybarethembeforehim.

24Andwhenhecametothetower,hetookthemfrom theirhand,andbestowedtheminthehouse:andheletthe mengo,andtheydeparted.

25Buthewentin,andstoodbeforehismaster.AndElisha saiduntohim,Whencecomestthou,Gehazi?Andhesaid, Thyservantwentnowhither

26Andhesaiduntohim,Wentnotmineheartwiththee, whenthemanturnedagainfromhischariottomeetthee? Isitatimetoreceivemoney,andtoreceivegarments,and oliveyards,andvineyards,andsheep,andoxen,and menservants,andmaidservants?

27TheleprosythereforeofNaamanshallcleaveuntothee, anduntothyseedforeverAndhewentoutfromhis presencealeperaswhiteassnow

20InhisdaysEdomrevoltedfromunderthehandofJudah, andmadeakingoverthemselves.

21SoJoramwentovertoZair,andallthechariotswith him:andherosebynight,andsmotetheEdomiteswhich compassedhimabout,andthecaptainsofthechariots:and thepeoplefledintotheirtents

22YetEdomrevoltedfromunderthehandofJudahunto thisday.ThenLibnahrevoltedatthesametime.

3ButhewalkedinthewayofthekingsofIsrael,yea,and madehissontopassthroughthefire,accordingtothe abominationsoftheheathen,whomtheLORDcastout frombeforethechildrenofIsrael

3AgainsthimcameupShalmaneserkingofAssyria;and Hosheabecamehisservant,andgavehimpresents

4AndthekingofAssyriafoundconspiracyinHoshea:for hehadsentmessengerstoSokingofEgypt,andbrought nopresenttothekingofAssyria,ashehaddoneyearby year:thereforethekingofAssyriashuthimup,andbound himinprison.

5ThenthekingofAssyriacameupthroughoutalltheland, andwentuptoSamaria,andbesiegeditthreeyears

9AndthechildrenofIsraeldidsecretlythosethingsthat werenotrightagainsttheLORDtheirGod,andtheybuilt themhighplacesinalltheircities,fromthetowerofthe watchmentothefencedcity

10Andtheysetthemupimagesandgrovesineveryhigh hill,andundereverygreentree:

11Andtheretheyburntincenseinallthehighplaces,as didtheheathenwhomtheLORDcarriedawaybeforethem; andwroughtwickedthingstoprovoketheLORDtoanger:

12Fortheyservedidols,whereoftheLORDhadsaidunto them,Yeshallnotdothisthing

13YettheLORDtestifiedagainstIsrael,andagainstJudah, byalltheprophets,andbyalltheseers,saying,Turnye fromyourevilways,andkeepmycommandmentsandmy statutes,accordingtoallthelawwhichIcommandedyour fathers,andwhichIsenttoyoubymyservantsthe prophets

14Notwithstandingtheywouldnothear,buthardened theirnecks,liketotheneckoftheirfathers,thatdidnot believeintheLORDtheirGod

15Andtheyrejectedhisstatutes,andhiscovenantthathe madewiththeirfathers,andhistestimonieswhichhe testifiedagainstthem;andtheyfollowedvanity,and becamevain,andwentaftertheheathenthatwereround aboutthem,concerningwhomtheLORDhadcharged them,thattheyshouldnotdolikethem

16AndtheyleftallthecommandmentsoftheLORDtheir God,andmadethemmoltenimages,eventwocalves,and madeagrove,andworshippedallthehostofheaven,and servedBaal

17Andtheycausedtheirsonsandtheirdaughterstopass throughthefire,anduseddivinationandenchantments, andsoldthemselvestodoevilinthesightoftheLORD,to provokehimtoanger.

18ThereforetheLORDwasveryangrywithIsrael,and removedthemoutofhissight:therewasnoneleftbutthe tribeofJudahonly.

19AlsoJudahkeptnotthecommandmentsoftheLORD theirGod,butwalkedinthestatutesofIsraelwhichthey made.

20AndtheLORDrejectedalltheseedofIsrael,and afflictedthem,anddeliveredthemintothehandofspoilers, untilhehadcastthemoutofhissight.

21ForherentIsraelfromthehouseofDavid;andthey madeJeroboamthesonofNebatking:andJeroboamdrave IsraelfromfollowingtheLORD,andmadethemsina greatsin

22ForthechildrenofIsraelwalkedinallthesinsof Jeroboamwhichhedid;theydepartednotfromthem;

23UntiltheLORDremovedIsraeloutofhissight,ashe hadsaidbyallhisservantstheprophetsSowasIsrael carriedawayoutoftheirownlandtoAssyriauntothisday.

24AndthekingofAssyriabroughtmenfromBabylon, andfromCuthah,andfromAva,andfromHamath,and fromSepharvaim,andplacedtheminthecitiesofSamaria insteadofthechildrenofIsrael:andtheypossessed Samaria,anddweltinthecitiesthereof 25Andsoitwasatthebeginningoftheirdwellingthere, thattheyfearednottheLORD:thereforetheLORDsent lionsamongthem,whichslewsomeofthem.

26WhereforetheyspaketothekingofAssyria,saying, Thenationswhichthouhastremoved,andplacedinthe citiesofSamaria,knownotthemanneroftheGodofthe land:thereforehehathsentlionsamongthem,and,behold, theyslaythem,becausetheyknownotthemannerofthe Godoftheland

33TheyfearedtheLORD,andservedtheirowngods,after themannerofthenationswhomtheycarriedawayfrom thence

34Untothisdaytheydoaftertheformermanners:they fearnottheLORD,neitherdotheyaftertheirstatutes,or aftertheirordinances,orafterthelawandcommandment whichtheLORDcommandedthechildrenofJacob,whom henamedIsrael;

35WithwhomtheLORDhadmadeacovenant,and chargedthem,saying,Yeshallnotfearothergods,nor bowyourselvestothem,norservethem,norsacrificeto them:

36ButtheLORD,whobroughtyouupoutofthelandof Egyptwithgreatpowerandastretchedoutarm,himshall yefear,andhimshallyeworship,andtohimshallyedo sacrifice

37Andthestatutes,andtheordinances,andthelaw,and thecommandment,whichhewroteforyou,yeshall observetodoforevermore;andyeshallnotfearother gods.

2Twentyandfiveyearsoldwashewhenhebegantoreign; andhereignedtwentyandnineyearsinJerusalem.His mother'snamealsowasAbi,thedaughterofZachariah.

3AndhedidthatwhichwasrightinthesightoftheLORD, accordingtoallthatDavidhisfatherdid.

4Heremovedthehighplaces,andbraketheimages,and cutdownthegroves,andbrakeinpiecesthebrasenserpent thatMoseshadmade:foruntothosedaysthechildrenof Israeldidburnincensetoit:andhecalleditNehushtan 5HetrustedintheLORDGodofIsrael;sothatafterhim wasnonelikehimamongallthekingsofJudah,norany thatwerebeforehim

6ForheclavetotheLORD,anddepartednotfrom followinghim,butkepthiscommandments,whichthe LORDcommandedMoses

7AndtheLORDwaswithhim;andheprospered whithersoeverhewentforth:andherebelledagainstthe kingofAssyria,andservedhimnot

13NowinthefourteenthyearofkingHezekiahdid SennacheribkingofAssyriacomeupagainstallthefenced citiesofJudah,andtookthem

14AndHezekiahkingofJudahsenttothekingofAssyria toLachish,saying,Ihaveoffended;returnfromme:that whichthouputtestonmewillIbearAndthekingof AssyriaappointeduntoHezekiahkingofJudahthree hundredtalentsofsilverandthirtytalentsofgold

15AndHezekiahgavehimallthesilverthatwasfoundin thehouseoftheLORD,andinthetreasuresoftheking's house

16AtthattimedidHezekiahcutoffthegoldfromthe doorsofthetempleoftheLORD,andfromthepillars whichHezekiahkingofJudahhadoverlaid,andgaveitto thekingofAssyria

17AndthekingofAssyriasentTartanandRabsarisand RabshakehfromLachishtokingHezekiahwithagreat hostagainstJerusalemAndtheywentupandcameto Jerusalem.Andwhentheywerecomeup,theycameand stoodbytheconduitoftheupperpool,whichisinthe highwayofthefuller'sfield

22Butifyesayuntome,WetrustintheLORDourGod: isnotthathe,whosehighplacesandwhosealtars Hezekiahhathtakenaway,andhathsaidtoJudahand Jerusalem,YeshallworshipbeforethisaltarinJerusalem?

23Nowtherefore,Ipraythee,givepledgestomylordthe kingofAssyria,andIwilldelivertheetwothousandhorses, ifthoubeableonthyparttosetridersuponthem.

24Howthenwiltthouturnawaythefaceofonecaptainof theleastofmymaster'sservants,andputthytrustonEgypt forchariotsandforhorsemen?

25AmInowcomeupwithouttheLORDagainstthisplace todestroyit?TheLORDsaidtome,Goupagainstthis land,anddestroyit.

4ItmaybetheLORDthyGodwillhearallthewordsof Rabshakeh,whomthekingofAssyriahismasterhathsent toreproachthelivingGod;andwillreprovethewords whichtheLORDthyGodhathheard:whereforeliftupthy prayerfortheremnantthatareleft.

7Behold,Iwillsendablastuponhim,andheshallheara rumour,andshallreturntohisownland;andIwillcause himtofallbytheswordinhisownland

8SoRabshakehreturned,andfoundthekingofAssyria warringagainstLibnah:forhehadheardthathewas departedfromLachish

9AndwhenheheardsayofTirhakahkingofEthiopia, Behold,heiscomeouttofightagainstthee:hesent messengersagainuntoHezekiah,saying, 10ThusshallyespeaktoHezekiahkingofJudah,saying, LetnotthyGodinwhomthoutrustestdeceivethee,saying, Jerusalemshallnotbedeliveredintothehandoftheking ofAssyria

21ThisisthewordthattheLORDhathspokenconcerning him;ThevirginthedaughterofZionhathdespisedthee, andlaughedtheetoscorn;thedaughterofJerusalemhath shakenherheadatthee.

22Whomhastthoureproachedandblasphemed?and againstwhomhastthouexaltedthyvoice,andliftedup thineeyesonhigh?evenagainsttheHolyOneofIsrael

23BythymessengersthouhastreproachedtheLord,and hastsaid,WiththemultitudeofmychariotsIamcomeup totheheightofthemountains,tothesidesofLebanon,and willcutdownthetallcedartreesthereof,andthechoicefir treesthereof:andIwillenterintothelodgingsofhis borders,andintotheforestofhisCarmel

24Ihavediggedanddrunkstrangewaters,andwiththe soleofmyfeethaveIdriedupalltheriversofbesieged places

25HastthounotheardlongagohowIhavedoneit,andof ancienttimesthatIhaveformedit?nowhaveIbroughtit topass,thatthoushouldestbetolaywastefencedcities intoruinousheaps

26Thereforetheirinhabitantswereofsmallpower,they weredismayedandconfounded;theywereasthegrassof

thefield,andasthegreenherb,asthegrassonthe housetops,andascornblastedbeforeitbegrownup

27ButIknowthyabode,andthygoingout,andthy comingin,andthyrageagainstme

28Becausethyrageagainstmeandthytumultiscomeup intomineears,thereforeIwillputmyhookinthynose, andmybridleinthylips,andIwillturntheebackbythe waybywhichthoucamest.

29Andthisshallbeasignuntothee,Yeshalleatthisyear suchthingsasgrowofthemselves,andinthesecondyear thatwhichspringethofthesame;andinthethirdyearsow ye,andreap,andplantvineyards,andeatthefruitsthereof 30AndtheremnantthatisescapedofthehouseofJudah shallyetagaintakerootdownward,andbearfruitupward.

31ForoutofJerusalemshallgofortharemnant,andthey thatescapeoutofmountZion:thezealoftheLORDof hostsshalldothis.

32ThereforethussaiththeLORDconcerningthekingof Assyria,Heshallnotcomeintothiscity,norshootan arrowthere,norcomebeforeitwithshield,norcastabank againstit

33Bythewaythathecame,bythesameshallhereturn, andshallnotcomeintothiscity,saiththeLORD.

34ForIwilldefendthiscity,tosaveit,formineownsake, andformyservantDavid'ssake

35Anditcametopassthatnight,thattheangelofthe LORDwentout,andsmoteinthecampoftheAssyriansan hundredfourscoreandfivethousand:andwhentheyarose earlyinthemorning,behold,theywerealldeadcorpses.

36SoSennacheribkingofAssyriadeparted,andwentand returned,anddweltatNineveh

8AndHezekiahsaiduntoIsaiah,Whatshallbethesign thattheLORDwillhealme,andthatIshallgoupintothe houseoftheLORDthethirdday?

9AndIsaiahsaid,ThissignshaltthouhaveoftheLORD, thattheLORDwilldothethingthathehathspoken:shall theshadowgoforwardtendegrees,orgobacktendegrees?

10AndHezekiahanswered,Itisalightthingforthe shadowtogodowntendegrees:nay,butlettheshadow returnbackwardtendegrees.

11AndIsaiahtheprophetcrieduntotheLORD:andhe broughttheshadowtendegreesbackward,bywhichithad gonedowninthedialofAhaz

12AtthattimeBerodachbaladan,thesonofBaladan,king ofBabylon,sentlettersandapresentuntoHezekiah:forhe hadheardthatHezekiahhadbeensick

13AndHezekiahhearkeneduntothem,andshewedthem allthehouseofhispreciousthings,thesilver,andthegold, andthespices,andthepreciousointment,andallthehouse ofhisarmour,andallthatwasfoundinhistreasures:there wasnothinginhishouse,norinallhisdominion,that Hezekiahshewedthemnot

3ForhebuiltupagainthehighplaceswhichHezekiahhis fatherhaddestroyed;andherearedupaltarsforBaal,and madeagrove,asdidAhabkingofIsrael;andworshipped allthehostofheaven,andservedthem

4AndhebuiltaltarsinthehouseoftheLORD,ofwhich theLORDsaid,InJerusalemwillIputmyname

5Andhebuiltaltarsforallthehostofheaveninthetwo courtsofthehouseoftheLORD

6Andhemadehissonpassthroughthefire,andobserved times,andusedenchantments,anddealtwithfamiliar spiritsandwizards:hewroughtmuchwickednessinthe sightoftheLORD,toprovokehimtoanger

7Andhesetagravenimageofthegrovethathehadmade inthehouse,ofwhichtheLORDsaidtoDavid,andto Solomonhisson,Inthishouse,andinJerusalem,whichI havechosenoutofalltribesofIsrael,willIputmyname forever:

8NeitherwillImakethefeetofIsraelmoveanymoreout ofthelandwhichIgavetheirfathers;onlyiftheywill observetodoaccordingtoallthatIhavecommandedthem, andaccordingtoallthelawthatmyservantMoses commandedthem

9Buttheyhearkenednot:andManassehseducedthemto domoreevilthandidthenationswhomtheLORD destroyedbeforethechildrenofIsrael

10AndtheLORDspakebyhisservantstheprophets, saying,

11BecauseManassehkingofJudahhathdonethese abominations,andhathdonewickedlyaboveallthatthe Amoritesdid,whichwerebeforehim,andhathmade Judahalsotosinwithhisidols:

12ThereforethussaiththeLORDGodofIsrael,Behold,I ambringingsucheviluponJerusalemandJudah,that whosoeverhearethofit,bothhisearsshalltingle

13AndIwillstretchoverJerusalemthelineofSamaria, andtheplummetofthehouseofAhab:andIwillwipe Jerusalemasamanwipethadish,wipingit,andturningit upsidedown.

14AndIwillforsaketheremnantofmineinheritance,and deliverthemintothehandoftheirenemies;andtheyshall becomeapreyandaspoiltoalltheirenemies;

15Becausetheyhavedonethatwhichwasevilinmysight, andhaveprovokedmetoanger,sincethedaytheirfathers cameforthoutofEgypt,evenuntothisday.

16MoreoverManassehshedinnocentbloodverymuch,till hehadfilledJerusalemfromoneendtoanother;besidehis sinwherewithhemadeJudahtosin,indoingthatwhich wasevilinthesightoftheLORD

17NowtherestoftheactsofManasseh,andallthathedid, andhissinthathesinned,aretheynotwritteninthebook ofthechroniclesofthekingsofJudah?

18AndManassehsleptwithhisfathers,andwasburiedin thegardenofhisownhouse,inthegardenofUzza:and Amonhissonreignedinhisstead

19Amonwastwentyandtwoyearsoldwhenhebeganto reign,andhereignedtwoyearsinJerusalemAndhis mother'snamewasMeshullemeth,thedaughterofHaruz ofJotbah.

2AndhedidthatwhichwasrightinthesightoftheLORD, andwalkedinallthewayofDavidhisfather,andturned notasidetotherighthandortotheleft

9AndShaphanthescribecametotheking,andbrought thekingwordagain,andsaid,Thyservantshavegathered themoneythatwasfoundinthehouse,andhavedelivered itintothehandofthemthatdothework,thathavethe oversightofthehouseoftheLORD.

10AndShaphanthescribeshewedtheking,saying, Hilkiahthepriesthathdeliveredmeabook.AndShaphan readitbeforetheking.

11Anditcametopass,whenthekinghadheardthewords ofthebookofthelaw,thatherenthisclothes

12AndthekingcommandedHilkiahthepriest,and AhikamthesonofShaphan,andAchborthesonof Michaiah,andShaphanthescribe,andAsahiahaservantof theking's,saying,

13Goye,enquireoftheLORDforme,andforthepeople, andforallJudah,concerningthewordsofthisbookthatis found:forgreatisthewrathoftheLORDthatiskindled againstus,becauseourfathershavenothearkeneduntothe wordsofthisbook,todoaccordinguntoallthatwhichis writtenconcerningus

16ThussaiththeLORD,Behold,Iwillbringevilupon thisplace,andupontheinhabitantsthereof,evenallthe wordsofthebookwhichthekingofJudahhathread: 17Becausetheyhaveforsakenme,andhaveburned incenseuntoothergods,thattheymightprovokemeto angerwithalltheworksoftheirhands;thereforemywrath shallbekindledagainstthisplace,andshallnotbe quenched.

18ButtothekingofJudahwhichsentyoutoenquireof theLORD,thusshallyesaytohim,ThussaiththeLORD GodofIsrael,Astouchingthewordswhichthouhastheard; 19Becausethineheartwastender,andthouhasthumbled thyselfbeforetheLORD,whenthouheardestwhatIspake againstthisplace,andagainsttheinhabitantsthereof,that theyshouldbecomeadesolationandacurse,andhastrent thyclothes,andweptbeforeme;Ialsohaveheardthee, saiththeLORD.

20Beholdtherefore,Iwillgathertheeuntothyfathers,and thoushaltbegatheredintothygraveinpeace;andthine eyesshallnotseealltheevilwhichIwillbringuponthis placeAndtheybroughtthekingwordagain

CHAPTER23

1Andthekingsent,andtheygathereduntohimallthe eldersofJudahandofJerusalem.

2AndthekingwentupintothehouseoftheLORD,and allthemenofJudahandalltheinhabitantsofJerusalem withhim,andthepriests,andtheprophets,andallthe people,bothsmallandgreat:andhereadintheirearsall thewordsofthebookofthecovenantwhichwasfoundin thehouseoftheLORD.

3Andthekingstoodbyapillar,andmadeacovenant beforetheLORD,towalkaftertheLORD,andtokeephis commandmentsandhistestimoniesandhisstatuteswithall theirheartandalltheirsoul,toperformthewordsofthis covenantthatwerewritteninthisbookAndallthepeople stoodtothecovenant.

4AndthekingcommandedHilkiahthehighpriest,andthe priestsofthesecondorder,andthekeepersofthedoor,to bringforthoutofthetempleoftheLORDallthevessels thatweremadeforBaal,andforthegrove,andforallthe hostofheaven:andheburnedthemwithoutJerusalemin thefieldsofKidron,andcarriedtheashesofthemunto Bethel

5Andheputdowntheidolatrouspriests,whomthekings ofJudahhadordainedtoburnincenseinthehighplacesin thecitiesofJudah,andintheplacesroundaboutJerusalem; themalsothatburnedincenseuntoBaal,tothesun,andto themoon,andtotheplanets,andtoallthehostofheaven 6Andhebroughtoutthegrovefromthehouseofthe LORD,withoutJerusalem,untothebrookKidron,and burneditatthebrookKidron,andstampeditsmallto powder,andcastthepowderthereofuponthegravesofthe childrenofthepeople.

7Andhebrakedownthehousesofthesodomites,that werebythehouseoftheLORD,wherethewomenwove hangingsforthegrove.

8AndhebroughtallthepriestsoutofthecitiesofJudah, anddefiledthehighplaceswherethepriestshadburned incense,fromGebatoBeersheba,andbrakedownthehigh placesofthegatesthatwereintheenteringinofthegate

ofJoshuathegovernorofthecity,whichwereonaman's lefthandatthegateofthecity

9Neverthelessthepriestsofthehighplacescamenotupto thealtaroftheLORDinJerusalem,buttheydideatofthe unleavenedbreadamongtheirbrethren.

10AndhedefiledTopheth,whichisinthevalleyofthe childrenofHinnom,thatnomanmightmakehissonorhis daughtertopassthroughthefiretoMolech.

11AndhetookawaythehorsesthatthekingsofJudahhad giventothesun,attheenteringinofthehouseofthe LORD,bythechamberofNathanmelechthechamberlain, whichwasinthesuburbs,andburnedthechariotsofthe sunwithfire

12Andthealtarsthatwereonthetopoftheupperchamber ofAhaz,whichthekingsofJudahhadmade,andthealtars whichManassehhadmadeinthetwocourtsofthehouse oftheLORD,didthekingbeatdown,andbrakethem downfromthence,andcastthedustofthemintothebrook Kidron

13AndthehighplacesthatwerebeforeJerusalem,which wereontherighthandofthemountofcorruption,which SolomonthekingofIsraelhadbuildedforAshtoreththe abominationoftheZidonians,andforChemoshthe abominationoftheMoabites,andforMilcomthe abominationofthechildrenofAmmon,didthekingdefile 14Andhebrakeinpiecestheimages,andcutdownthe groves,andfilledtheirplaceswiththebonesofmen 15MoreoverthealtarthatwasatBethel,andthehighplace whichJeroboamthesonofNebat,whomadeIsraeltosin, hadmade,boththataltarandthehighplacehebrakedown, andburnedthehighplace,andstampeditsmalltopowder, andburnedthegrove.

16AndasJosiahturnedhimself,hespiedthesepulchres thatwerethereinthemount,andsent,andtookthebones outofthesepulchres,andburnedthemuponthealtar,and pollutedit,accordingtothewordoftheLORDwhichthe manofGodproclaimed,whoproclaimedthesewords 17Thenhesaid,WhattitleisthatthatIsee?Andthemen ofthecitytoldhim,ItisthesepulchreofthemanofGod, whichcamefromJudah,andproclaimedthesethingsthat thouhastdoneagainstthealtarofBethel.

18Andhesaid,Lethimalone;letnomanmovehisbones Sotheylethisbonesalone,withthebonesoftheprophet thatcameoutofSamaria.

19Andallthehousesalsoofthehighplacesthatwerein thecitiesofSamaria,whichthekingsofIsraelhadmadeto provoketheLORDtoanger,Josiahtookaway,anddidto themaccordingtoalltheactsthathehaddoneinBethel

20Andheslewallthepriestsofthehighplacesthatwere thereuponthealtars,andburnedmen'sbonesuponthem, andreturnedtoJerusalem

21Andthekingcommandedallthepeople,saying,Keep thepassoveruntotheLORDyourGod,asitiswrittenin thebookofthiscovenant

22Surelytherewasnotholdensuchapassoverfromthe daysofthejudgesthatjudgedIsrael,norinallthedaysof thekingsofIsrael,norofthekingsofJudah;

23ButintheeighteenthyearofkingJosiah,whereinthis passoverwasholdentotheLORDinJerusalem

24Moreovertheworkerswithfamiliarspirits,andthe wizards,andtheimages,andtheidols,andallthe abominationsthatwerespiedinthelandofJudahandin Jerusalem,didJosiahputaway,thathemightperformthe

wordsofthelawwhichwerewritteninthebookthat HilkiahthepriestfoundinthehouseoftheLORD

25Andlikeuntohimwastherenokingbeforehim,that turnedtotheLORDwithallhisheart,andwithallhissoul, andwithallhismight,accordingtoallthelawofMoses; neitherafterhimarosethereanylikehim

26NotwithstandingtheLORDturnednotfromthe fiercenessofhisgreatwrath,wherewithhisangerwas kindledagainstJudah,becauseofalltheprovocationsthat Manassehhadprovokedhimwithal

27AndtheLORDsaid,IwillremoveJudahalsooutofmy sight,asIhaveremovedIsrael,andwillcastoffthiscity JerusalemwhichIhavechosen,andthehouseofwhichI said,Mynameshallbethere.

1Anditcametopassintheninthyearofhisreign,inthe tenthmonth,inthetenthdayofthemonth,that NebuchadnezzarkingofBabyloncame,he,andallhishost, againstJerusalem,andpitchedagainstit;andtheybuilt fortsagainstitroundabout

2Andthecitywasbesiegeduntotheeleventhyearofking Zedekiah.

3Andontheninthdayofthefourthmonththefamine prevailedinthecity,andtherewasnobreadforthepeople oftheland

19Andoutofthecityhetookanofficerthatwassetover themenofwar,andfivemenofthemthatwereinthe king'spresence,whichwerefoundinthecity,andthe principalscribeofthehost,whichmusteredthepeopleof theland,andthreescoremenofthepeopleofthelandthat werefoundinthecity:

20AndNebuzaradancaptainoftheguardtookthese,and broughtthemtothekingofBabylontoRiblah:

21AndthekingofBabylonsmotethem,andslewthemat RiblahinthelandofHamathSoJudahwascarriedaway outoftheirland.

23Andwhenallthecaptainsofthearmies,theyandtheir men,heardthatthekingofBabylonhadmadeGedaliah governor,therecametoGedaliahtoMizpah,evenIshmael thesonofNethaniah,andJohananthesonofCareah,and SeraiahthesonofTanhumeththeNetophathite,and JaazaniahthesonofaMaachathite,theyandtheirmen

24AndGedaliahswaretothem,andtotheirmen,andsaid untothem,FearnottobetheservantsoftheChaldees: dwellintheland,andservethekingofBabylon;andit shallbewellwithyou

25Butitcametopassintheseventhmonth,thatIshmael thesonofNethaniah,thesonofElishama,oftheseedroyal, came,andtenmenwithhim,andsmoteGedaliah,thathe died,andtheJewsandtheChaldeesthatwerewithhimat Mizpah

28Andhespakekindlytohim,andsethisthroneabove thethroneofthekingsthatwerewithhiminBabylon; 29Andchangedhisprisongarments:andhedideatbread continuallybeforehimallthedaysofhislife.

30Andhisallowancewasacontinualallowancegivenhim oftheking,adailyrateforeveryday,allthedaysofhis life
