1TheburdenofNinevehThebookofthevisionofNahumthe Elkoshite
2Godisjealous,andtheLORDrevengeth;theLORDrevengeth, andisfurious;theLORDwilltakevengeanceonhisadversaries,and hereservethwrathforhisenemies
3TheLORDisslowtoanger,andgreatinpower,andwillnotatall acquitthewicked:theLORDhathhiswayinthewhirlwindandin thestorm,andthecloudsarethedustofhisfeet
4Herebukeththesea,andmakethitdry,anddriethupalltherivers: Bashanlanguisheth,andCarmel,andtheflowerofLebanon languisheth
5Themountainsquakeathim,andthehillsmelt,andtheearthis burnedathispresence,yea,theworld,andallthatdwelltherein.
6Whocanstandbeforehisindignation?andwhocanabideinthe fiercenessofhisanger?hisfuryispouredoutlikefire,andtherocks arethrowndownbyhim
7TheLORDisgood,astrongholdinthedayoftrouble;andhe knoweththemthattrustinhim
8Butwithanoverrunningfloodhewillmakeanutterendofthe placethereof,anddarknessshallpursuehisenemies.
9WhatdoyeimagineagainsttheLORD?hewillmakeanutterend: afflictionshallnotriseupthesecondtime
10Forwhiletheybefoldentogetherasthorns,andwhiletheyare drunkenasdrunkards,theyshallbedevouredasstubblefullydry
11Thereisonecomeoutofthee,thatimaginethevilagainstthe LORD,awickedcounsellor
12ThussaiththeLORD;Thoughtheybequiet,andlikewisemany, yetthusshalltheybecutdown,whenheshallpassthroughThough Ihaveafflictedthee,Iwillafflicttheenomore
13FornowwillIbreakhisyokefromoffthee,andwillburstthy bondsinsunder
14AndtheLORDhathgivenacommandmentconcerningthee,that nomoreofthynamebesown:outofthehouseofthygodswillIcut offthegravenimageandthemoltenimage:Iwillmakethygrave; forthouartvile
15Beholduponthemountainsthefeetofhimthatbringethgood tidings,thatpublishethpeace!OJudah,keepthysolemnfeasts, performthyvows:forthewickedshallnomorepassthroughthee;he isutterlycutoff
CHAPTER2
1Hethatdashethinpiecesiscomeupbeforethyface:keepthe munition,watchtheway,makethyloinsstrong,fortifythypower mightily
2FortheLORDhathturnedawaytheexcellencyofJacob,asthe excellencyofIsrael:fortheemptiershaveemptiedthemout,and marredtheirvinebranches
3Theshieldofhismightymenismadered,thevaliantmenarein scarlet:thechariotsshallbewithflamingtorchesinthedayofhis preparation,andthefirtreesshallbeterriblyshaken.
4Thechariotsshallrageinthestreets,theyshalljustleoneagainst anotherinthebroadways:theyshallseemliketorches,theyshallrun likethelightnings.
5Heshallrecounthisworthies:theyshallstumbleintheirwalk;they shallmakehastetothewallthereof,andthedefenceshallbe prepared
6Thegatesoftheriversshallbeopened,andthepalaceshallbe dissolved
7AndHuzzabshallbeledawaycaptive,sheshallbebroughtup,and hermaidsshallleadheraswiththevoiceofdoves,taberingupon theirbreasts
8ButNinevehisofoldlikeapoolofwater:yettheyshallfleeaway Stand,stand,shalltheycry;butnoneshalllookback
9Takeyethespoilofsilver,takethespoilofgold:forthereisnone endofthestoreandgloryoutofallthepleasantfurniture
10Sheisempty,andvoid,andwaste:andtheheartmelteth,andthe kneessmitetogether,andmuchpainisinallloins,andthefacesof themallgatherblackness
11Whereisthedwellingofthelions,andthefeedingplaceofthe younglions,wherethelion,eventheoldlion,walked,andthelion's whelp,andnonemadethemafraid?
12Theliondidtearinpiecesenoughforhiswhelps,andstrangled forhislionesses,andfilledhisholeswithprey,andhisdenswith ravin.
13Behold,Iamagainstthee,saiththeLORDofhosts,andIwill burnherchariotsinthesmoke,andtheswordshalldevourthyyoung lions:andIwillcutoffthypreyfromtheearth,andthevoiceofthy messengersshallnomorebeheard
CHAPTER3
1Woetothebloodycity!itisallfullofliesandrobbery;theprey departethnot;
2Thenoiseofawhip,andthenoiseoftherattlingofthewheels,and ofthepransinghorses,andofthejumpingchariots
3Thehorsemanliftethupboththebrightswordandtheglittering spear:andthereisamultitudeofslain,andagreatnumberof carcases;andthereisnoneendoftheircorpses;theystumbleupon theircorpses:
4Becauseofthemultitudeofthewhoredomsofthewellfavoured harlot,themistressofwitchcrafts,thatsellethnationsthroughher whoredoms,andfamiliesthroughherwitchcrafts
5Behold,Iamagainstthee,saiththeLORDofhosts;andIwill discoverthyskirtsuponthyface,andIwillshewthenationsthy nakedness,andthekingdomsthyshame
6AndIwillcastabominablefilthuponthee,andmaketheevile,and willsettheeasagazingstock
7Anditshallcometopass,thatalltheythatlookupontheeshallflee fromthee,andsay,Ninevehislaidwaste:whowillbemoanher? whenceshallIseekcomfortersforthee?
8ArtthoubetterthanpopulousNo,thatwassituateamongtherivers, thathadthewatersroundaboutit,whoserampartwasthesea,and herwallwasfromthesea?
9EthiopiaandEgyptwereherstrength,anditwasinfinite;Putand Lubimwerethyhelpers
10Yetwasshecarriedaway,shewentintocaptivity:heryoung childrenalsoweredashedinpiecesatthetopofallthestreets:and theycastlotsforherhonourablemen,andallhergreatmenwere boundinchains
11Thoualsoshaltbedrunken:thoushaltbehid,thoualsoshaltseek strengthbecauseoftheenemy
12Allthystrongholdsshallbelikefigtreeswiththefirstripefigs:if theybeshaken,theyshallevenfallintothemouthoftheeater
13Behold,thypeopleinthemidstoftheearewomen:thegatesof thylandshallbesetwideopenuntothineenemies:thefireshall devourthybars
14Drawtheewatersforthesiege,fortifythystrongholds:gointo clay,andtreadthemorter,makestrongthebrickkiln
15Thereshallthefiredevourthee;theswordshallcuttheeoff,it shalleattheeuplikethecankerworm:makethyselfmanyasthe cankerworm,makethyselfmanyasthelocusts
16Thouhastmultipliedthymerchantsabovethestarsofheaven:the cankerwormspoileth,andfliethaway
17Thycrownedareasthelocusts,andthycaptainsasthegreat grasshoppers,whichcampinthehedgesinthecoldday,butwhen thesunariseththeyfleeaway,andtheirplaceisnotknownwhere theyare
18Thyshepherdsslumber,OkingofAssyria:thynoblesshalldwell inthedust:thypeopleisscattereduponthemountains,andnoman gathereththem
19Thereisnohealingofthybruise;thywoundisgrievous:allthat hearthebruitoftheeshallclapthehandsoverthee:foruponwhom hathnotthywickednesspassedcontinually?
