CHAPTER1
1Paul,anapostleofJesusChristbythecommandmentof GodourSaviour,andLordJesusChrist,whichisourhope; 2UntoTimothy,myownsoninthefaith:Grace,mercy, andpeace,fromGodourFatherandJesusChristourLord.
3AsIbesoughttheetoabidestillatEphesus,whenIwent intoMacedonia,thatthoumightestchargesomethatthey teachnootherdoctrine,
4Neithergiveheedtofablesandendlessgenealogies, whichministerquestions,ratherthangodlyedifyingwhich isinfaith:sodo.
5Nowtheendofthecommandmentischarityoutofapure heart,andofagoodconscience,andoffaithunfeigned:
6Fromwhichsomehavingswervedhaveturnedasideunto vainjangling;
7Desiringtobeteachersofthelaw;understandingneither whattheysay,norwhereoftheyaffirm.
8Butweknowthatthelawisgood,ifamanuseit lawfully;
9Knowingthis,thatthelawisnotmadeforarighteous man,butforthelawlessanddisobedient,fortheungodly andforsinners,forunholyandprofane,formurderersof fathersandmurderersofmothers,formanslayers, 10Forwhoremongers,forthemthatdefilethemselveswith mankind,formenstealers,forliars,forperjuredpersons, andiftherebeanyotherthingthatiscontrarytosound doctrine;
11AccordingtothegloriousgospeloftheblessedGod, whichwascommittedtomytrust.
12AndIthankChristJesusourLord,whohathenabledme, forthathecountedmefaithful,puttingmeintotheministry;
13Whowasbeforeablasphemer,andapersecutor,and injurious:butIobtainedmercy,becauseIdiditignorantly inunbelief.
14AndthegraceofourLordwasexceedingabundantwith faithandlovewhichisinChristJesus
15Thisisafaithfulsaying,andworthyofallacceptation, thatChristJesuscameintotheworldtosavesinners;of whomIamchief
16HowbeitforthiscauseIobtainedmercy,thatinmefirst JesusChristmightshewforthalllongsuffering,fora patterntothemwhichshouldhereafterbelieveonhimto lifeeverlasting.
17NowuntotheKingeternal,immortal,invisible,theonly wiseGod,behonourandgloryforeverandeverAmen
18ThischargeIcommituntothee,sonTimothy,according totheprophecieswhichwentbeforeonthee,thatthouby themmightestwaragoodwarfare;
19Holdingfaith,andagoodconscience;whichsome havingputawayconcerningfaithhavemadeshipwreck:
20OfwhomisHymenaeusandAlexander;whomIhave delivereduntoSatan,thattheymaylearnnottoblaspheme.
CHAPTER2
1Iexhorttherefore,that,firstofall,supplications,prayers, intercessions,andgivingofthanks,bemadeforallmen;
2Forkings,andforallthatareinauthority;thatwemay leadaquietandpeaceablelifeinallgodlinessandhonesty
3ForthisisgoodandacceptableinthesightofGodour Saviour;
4Whowillhaveallmentobesaved,andtocomeuntothe knowledgeofthetruth.
5ForthereisoneGod,andonemediatorbetweenGodand men,themanChristJesus;
6Whogavehimselfaransomforall,tobetestifiedindue time
7WhereuntoIamordainedapreacher,andanapostle,(I speakthetruthinChrist,andlienot;)ateacherofthe Gentilesinfaithandverity
8Iwillthereforethatmenprayeverywhere,liftingupholy hands,withoutwrathanddoubting.
9Inlikemanneralso,thatwomenadornthemselvesin modestapparel,withshamefacednessandsobriety;not withbroidedhair,orgold,orpearls,orcostlyarray;
10But(whichbecomethwomenprofessinggodliness)with goodworks
11Letthewomanlearninsilencewithallsubjection.
12ButIsuffernotawomantoteach,nortousurpauthority overtheman,buttobeinsilence.
13ForAdamwasfirstformed,thenEve.
14AndAdamwasnotdeceived,butthewomanbeing deceivedwasinthetransgression
15Notwithstandingsheshallbesavedinchildbearing,if theycontinueinfaithandcharityandholinesswith sobriety
CHAPTER3
1Thisisatruesaying,Ifamandesiretheofficeofa bishop,hedesirethagoodwork
2Abishopthenmustbeblameless,thehusbandofone wife,vigilant,sober,ofgoodbehaviour,givento hospitality,apttoteach;
3Notgiventowine,nostriker,notgreedyoffilthylucre; butpatient,notabrawler,notcovetous;
4Onethatrulethwellhisownhouse,havinghischildrenin subjectionwithallgravity;
5(Forifamanknownothowtorulehisownhouse,how shallhetakecareofthechurchofGod?)
6Notanovice,lestbeingliftedupwithpridehefallinto thecondemnationofthedevil
7Moreoverhemusthaveagoodreportofthemwhichare without;lesthefallintoreproachandthesnareofthedevil.
8Likewisemustthedeaconsbegrave,notdoubletongued, notgiventomuchwine,notgreedyoffilthylucre;
9Holdingthemysteryofthefaithinapureconscience.
10Andletthesealsofirstbeproved;thenletthemusethe officeofadeacon,beingfoundblameless
11Evensomusttheirwivesbegrave,notslanderers,sober, faithfulinallthings
12Letthedeaconsbethehusbandsofonewife,ruling theirchildrenandtheirownhouseswell.
13Fortheythathaveusedtheofficeofadeaconwell purchasetothemselvesagooddegree,andgreatboldness inthefaithwhichisinChristJesus.
14ThesethingswriteIuntothee,hopingtocomeuntothee shortly:
15ButifItarrylong,thatthoumayestknowhowthou oughtesttobehavethyselfinthehouseofGod,whichis
thechurchofthelivingGod,thepillarandgroundofthe truth.
16Andwithoutcontroversygreatisthemysteryof godliness:Godwasmanifestintheflesh,justifiedinthe Spirit,seenofangels,preacheduntotheGentiles,believed onintheworld,receivedupintoglory
CHAPTER4
1NowtheSpiritspeakethexpressly,thatinthelattertimes someshalldepartfromthefaith,givingheedtoseducing spirits,anddoctrinesofdevils;
2Speakingliesinhypocrisy;havingtheirconscience searedwithahotiron;
3Forbiddingtomarry,andcommandingtoabstainfrom meats,whichGodhathcreatedtobereceivedwith thanksgivingofthemwhichbelieveandknowthetruth
4ForeverycreatureofGodisgood,andnothingtobe refused,ifitbereceivedwiththanksgiving:
5ForitissanctifiedbythewordofGodandprayer
6Ifthouputthebrethreninremembranceofthesethings, thoushaltbeagoodministerofJesusChrist,nourishedup inthewordsoffaithandofgooddoctrine,whereuntothou hastattained
7Butrefuseprofaneandoldwives'fables,andexercise thyselfratheruntogodliness
8Forbodilyexerciseprofitethlittle:butgodlinessis profitableuntoallthings,havingpromiseofthelifethat nowis,andofthatwhichistocome
9Thisisafaithfulsayingandworthyofallacceptation
10Forthereforewebothlabourandsufferreproach, becausewetrustinthelivingGod,whoistheSaviourof allmen,speciallyofthosethatbelieve
11Thesethingscommandandteach.
12Letnomandespisethyyouth;butbethouanexample ofthebelievers,inword,inconversation,incharity,in spirit,infaith,inpurity.
13TillIcome,giveattendancetoreading,toexhortation, todoctrine
14Neglectnotthegiftthatisinthee,whichwasgiventhee byprophecy,withthelayingonofthehandsofthe presbytery
15Meditateuponthesethings;givethyselfwhollytothem; thatthyprofitingmayappeartoall
16Takeheeduntothyself,anduntothedoctrine;continue inthem:forindoingthisthoushaltbothsavethyself,and themthathearthee
CHAPTER5
1Rebukenotanelder,butintreathimasafather;andthe youngermenasbrethren;
2Theelderwomenasmothers;theyoungerassisters,with allpurity
3Honourwidowsthatarewidowsindeed
4Butifanywidowhavechildrenornephews,letthem learnfirsttoshewpietyathome,andtorequitetheir parents:forthatisgoodandacceptablebeforeGod
5Nowshethatisawidowindeed,anddesolate,trustethin God,andcontinuethinsupplicationsandprayersnightand day
6Butshethatlivethinpleasureisdeadwhilesheliveth
7Andthesethingsgiveincharge,thattheymaybe blameless.
8Butifanyprovidenotforhisown,andspeciallyfor thoseofhisownhouse,hehathdeniedthefaith,andis worsethananinfidel.
9Letnotawidowbetakenintothenumberunder threescoreyearsold,havingbeenthewifeofoneman, 10Wellreportedofforgoodworks;ifshehavebroughtup children,ifshehavelodgedstrangers,ifshehavewashed thesaints'feet,ifshehaverelievedtheafflicted,ifshehave diligentlyfollowedeverygoodwork
11Buttheyoungerwidowsrefuse:forwhentheyhave beguntowaxwantonagainstChrist,theywillmarry; 12Havingdamnation,becausetheyhavecastofftheirfirst faith
13Andwithaltheylearntobeidle,wanderingaboutfrom housetohouse;andnotonlyidle,buttattlersalsoand busybodies,speakingthingswhichtheyoughtnot 14Iwillthereforethattheyoungerwomenmarry,bear children,guidethehouse,givenoneoccasiontothe adversarytospeakreproachfully
15ForsomearealreadyturnedasideafterSatan.
16Ifanymanorwomanthatbelievethhavewidows,let themrelievethem,andletnotthechurchbecharged;thatit mayrelievethemthatarewidowsindeed.
17Lettheeldersthatrulewellbecountedworthyof doublehonour,especiallytheywholabourinthewordand doctrine.
18Forthescripturesaith,Thoushaltnotmuzzletheoxthat treadethoutthecornAnd,Thelabourerisworthyofhis reward.
19Againstanelderreceivenotanaccusation,butbefore twoorthreewitnesses
20Themthatsinrebukebeforeall,thatothersalsomay fear
21IchargetheebeforeGod,andtheLordJesusChrist,and theelectangels,thatthouobservethesethingswithout preferringonebeforeanother,doingnothingbypartiality 22Layhandssuddenlyonnoman,neitherbepartakerof othermen'ssins:keepthyselfpure.
23Drinknolongerwater,butusealittlewineforthy stomach'ssakeandthineofteninfirmities
24Somemen'ssinsareopenbeforehand,goingbeforeto judgment;andsomementheyfollowafter
25Likewisealsothegoodworksofsomearemanifest beforehand;andtheythatareotherwisecannotbehid.
CHAPTER6
1Letasmanyservantsasareundertheyokecounttheir ownmastersworthyofallhonour,thatthenameofGod andhisdoctrinebenotblasphemed.
2Andtheythathavebelievingmasters,letthemnot despisethem,becausetheyarebrethren;butratherdothem service,becausetheyarefaithfulandbeloved,partakersof thebenefitThesethingsteachandexhort
3Ifanymanteachotherwise,andconsentnotto wholesomewords,eventhewordsofourLordJesusChrist, andtothedoctrinewhichisaccordingtogodliness;
4Heisproud,knowingnothing,butdotingaboutquestions andstrifesofwords,whereofcomethenvy,strife,railings, evilsurmisings,
5Perversedisputingsofmenofcorruptminds,and destituteofthetruth,supposingthatgainisgodliness:from suchwithdrawthyself
6Butgodlinesswithcontentmentisgreatgain.
7Forwebroughtnothingintothisworld,anditiscertain wecancarrynothingout
8Andhavingfoodandraimentletusbetherewithcontent
9Buttheythatwillberichfallintotemptationandasnare, andintomanyfoolishandhurtfullusts,whichdrownmen indestructionandperdition
10Fortheloveofmoneyistherootofallevil:which whilesomecovetedafter,theyhaveerredfromthefaith, andpiercedthemselvesthroughwithmanysorrows.
11Butthou,OmanofGod,fleethesethings;andfollow afterrighteousness,godliness,faith,love,patience, meekness.
12Fightthegoodfightoffaith,layholdoneternallife, whereuntothouartalsocalled,andhastprofessedagood professionbeforemanywitnesses.
13IgivetheechargeinthesightofGod,whoquickeneth allthings,andbeforeChristJesus,whobeforePontius Pilatewitnessedagoodconfession;
14Thatthoukeepthiscommandmentwithoutspot, unrebukeable,untiltheappearingofourLordJesusChrist:
15Whichinhistimesheshallshew,whoistheblessed andonlyPotentate,theKingofkings,andLordoflords;
16Whoonlyhathimmortality,dwellinginthelightwhich nomancanapproachunto;whomnomanhathseen,nor cansee:towhombehonourandpowereverlastingAmen
17Chargethemthatarerichinthisworld,thattheybenot highminded,nortrustinuncertainriches,butintheliving God,whogivethusrichlyallthingstoenjoy;
18Thattheydogood,thattheyberichingoodworks, readytodistribute,willingtocommunicate;
19Layingupinstoreforthemselvesagoodfoundation againstthetimetocome,thattheymaylayholdoneternal life.
20OTimothy,keepthatwhichiscommittedtothytrust, avoidingprofaneandvainbabblings,andoppositionsof sciencefalselysocalled:
21Whichsomeprofessinghaveerredconcerningthefaith GracebewiththeeAmen(ThefirsttoTimothywas writtenfromLaodicea,whichisthechiefestcityofPhrygia Pacatiana)
